has never hoisted the white feather, neither has it been disgraced by the yellow streak. It is not afflicted with the flannel month. It is a plain, every day, sensible, conservative woman who will catch the passing breves; flies on a doubtful line: It professes a patriotism as broad as our country. Its love of even handed justice covers all the territory occupied by the human race. This is pretty high ground, and the man is a boy. Boys of the press come up and stand with us. This ground is holy.
REAPING FULL BENE

GATHERING.
What is a grand lodge or any other large gathering worthy to a city lobby? Doubts few people realize really the import of such questions. Certainly, the lobby which brings a thousand visitors into a city for a week in worth at least $30,000 to each delegate must spend at least $12,000 for room and board, and $18,000 allowance for incidentals is essential. A sum of money is appreciated in any town of moderate size. Merchants profit and the town is. If it proves hospitable and the people congenial there is chance of success for those who have visited. Its reputation grows and it receives favorable advice. Negroes who invite conventions into the cities in which they live do not fully appreciate their opportunity to attend other group for us by means of calling attention to the benefit to their
In fact, so completely do they overlook these opportunities that it is important to the merchants of these cities for help in entertaining such gatherings has not been readily forthcoming. The merchants of these cities gatherings in a city is negligible. Think and talk in terms of money and greater value for the occasion can be expected. Nor will this be true only in real life. The gathering is a thousand delegates means many thousands of dollars to railroad companies also. Why could it not happen that the fact that the gathering first begin a concerted movement for generally better railroad conditions too often we fail to catch the full vision of our power for increasing our own well being. This is an instance, of course.
EDUCATION BY TRAVEL
A prominent Texan seen last week in Chicago expressed himself as being highly entertained by doing nothing but first trip out of the state. He had never seen a bouncy ball train. He had never been into a museum. He had never experienced the thrill incident to the buryal fun of a train. He had never been into a museum. This trip will be an education to this man. As a result of his vision will be broadened and his whole outlook able to give service in the line in which he is engaged by reason of education. However it is found possible to accomplish it should be done. Money invested in it will may large dividends in maturity, ability to live a full and complete life. The experience of this Texan can be quantified by many others who, not, suffer from cramped视界. Let them travel, compare and learn by contact only are men born.

From slaves to capitalists is a far cry. And yet such is the progress made by the Negro in barely more than half a century of life as a freedman in America. It is encouraging to think of and pleasant to contemplate. But that contemplation should not cause such a feeling of satisfaction that we feel that we have "arrived." Decide.
We still lack much of having cultivated the ability to act unitedly for the furtherance of those projects which are vital to us. We have capitalists but they are comparatively few. We have large business projects but they still lack much of having been developed to the full.
We have reduced our illiteracy commendably but that class of noteworthy intellectual whose appreciation of the really five and esthetic is well developed, is miserably small as compared to the great and unwieldy mass of ignorant members of our group whose presence in the body politic is the cause for muth of the adverse criticism of us.
Men and races never really reach perfection. The whole course of their lives is one of development and progress. Should development cease, stagnation begins.
The development of individual development when individual success is compounded to represent group achievement. As individuals who compose a group we have developed but collectively we still lack much.
We are not exceptions to this fundamental. Either we must grow or dwindle.
Certainly if we would continue to seek our place in the sum successfully we must be cultivate more nearly the ability to combine our effort in presenting collected and collective energy to the problems which confront us.
The one man whose individual success has been phenomenal must see in it the possibilities of becoming an institution giving support to many men.
The failure of the individual Negro must be seen as the failure of all of the Negroes. Out of such consideration will come a desire to cooperate with every effort for good by the general mass of us. And this desire consistently ministered to will result in such a temper of the American Negro voters, not of such a sort as to cause him to be favorably impressed with committee-made polity of supporting the G. O. P. It is to be seriously doubted whether Link, Roscoe and the gang will find them as tractable as in former years. The G. O. P. has not made good with the Colored brother and he realizes it.
Some day in years to come perhaps, our people will learn to value properly the sincerity of those who they support for office. Gov. Al Smith, New York Democrat, stung by the presidential bee, has put his ban on the Wills-Dempsey bout in New York out of deference to Southern opinion.
And maybe the breaking up of so many meetings of the hooded bands in the North and East is a plot to increase the selling price of sheets and pillow cases.
It is to be hoped that the Athletic directors of Texas Colleges will finally wake up to the advantage of giving publicity to their fall and winter athletic events.
The National Baptist Convention brings to Los Angeles a crowd of constructive Christians who should be a source of inspiration to the West never before experienced.
Harry Wills has offered to fight Dempsey winner take all. This probably would appeal more to Dempsey if somebody could tell who the winner would be.
The storm center of Georgia politics will be Henry Lincoln Johnson. He's going to stick we know but there's going to be some battle down there, believe us.
With the European nations too poor to finance wars they still fall out and send ultimatums to each other. But they really don't mean anything.
Now just as cold weather is about to begin 150,000 coal miners walk out. Just the usual luck of the public. Who invented unions anyhow?
They tell us that Dr. Moton has again played the hero by making a thrilling rescue who said it was clever press agenting?

In the select musical circles of Chicago Cornellia B. Lampton is being adjudged a great performer on the Piano. Recently she played with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, being booked to appear as solist with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in January with the renowned Frederick Stock conducting. Miss Lampton is an artist in the big, broad way. Power that is positively uncanny, modesty and beauty are in her performance. The ecstasy of the ecstasy are here in transcendent quality. I have heard Chopin sing enthralling under the touch of her magic fingers and then again I have been thrilled by her interpretive grasp of the breadth and sweep of the McBowell orchestra. She is a master of her artistry. The young woman's powers is that she has stood up under a severe test and has come out of the ordeal acclimated a true artist. The Gunn orchestra has a great artist worthy of the grover artist worthy of the name and did not care to risk the annoyance of playing with an individual who would probably fall below the standard of sound, artistic playing. We have watched with a deal of interest the attitude of the French Government with reference to the Our forefathers, did not write the conduct of certain Americans on this side of the pond.
business. But this is France and with us the color line is totally unknown. Our forefathers, did not write the declaration des droits de l'homme for us to forget its letter and its spirit.
These Americans, who thus carry their prejudices into foreign lands, are doubtless of the 100 per cent stripe who seem to think that the earth and the habitants thereof belong exclusively to themselves. They, no doubt, are ranking members of the mob society of Americans, whose ranks are made up of 500,000 murders, a race prejudice in the form of the law, allows them to go Scott free.
But we are proud of the fact that the French Government has the courage to call them down, and rebuke them for their foolish, non-sensical, inconsistent, unreasonable conduct toward the Colored Frenchmen.
Color-prejudice is costing State and Nation in this Country millions of dollars, to say nothing about the many inconveniences and ill feeling that follow in the wake. Therefore, we can't but conclude that the French Government serves them by making those who break their law angry.
One of the leading French newspapers speaking on the subject had this to say:
"We have nothing to do with the attitude which prevails in America among her citizens. That is not our
One White Church.
We note with some amusement that there is to be ONE WHITE church, and no more church North and Church South among the Methodists. The old cause of separation has disappeared, say those responsible for the re-union. It be known that the Negro was the cause of the division back in the sities. Slavery is the term used, but the Negro was the cause of the division.
In coming back together, it is interesting to note how little is said about the justification for the split. Indeed, a great many more words are spent explaining the differences in the modes of worship, discipline, and polity that are spent on the cause that split the churches in twain. But it is given out that the cause has disappeared, and the reunion followed.
The re-union speaks only one thing for the denomination: It has decided that the Negro need not divide a church organization. The ques-
The Value of Knowledge.
How much do you know of the happenings of your home city; and if you are desirous of knowing, from what medium can it be more depended upon than your home paper? We, as a race, pay too little attention to our own papers. The most used and most abused commodity is our race newspapers. In St. Paul and Minneapolis we will find numerous individuals who weekly purchase foreign journals that give no account of the incidents of their own city. If the community in which you live is not worth your patronage it is not worth your remaining there. There is only one course your home paper may pursue to be successful; that is through the stupor of those it serves. We are not the first to experience of conditions and as such is deserving of your support.
Again, many who are subscribers, only read the social column. The editorial column is well worthy of your attention, especially the editors of the Northwestern Bulletin. This department is the monster of the times, and would keep abreast of the times, read the Bulletin editors weekly.
Migrants Unused to Northern Privileges.
Public conduct and demeanor of our people arriving from the Southland cannot be too strongly accentuated. They do not seem to accept the situation gracefully; in fact, they don't know just how to accept their new-found privileges. The civic and uplift agencies should inform these people how to acquit themselves from the situation, particularly the surface lines. In the North we have no Jim Crow care and there is no necessity and occasion to congregate and pack the rear entrance. It seems that we are prone to hud-
business. But this is France and with us the color line is totally unknown. Our forefathers did not write the declaration des droits de Phonne for us to forget its letter and its spirit. Besides our lack of all discrimination against Negroes is not inspired alone by this doctrine. We are sincere about it. Blacks with whom we are in contact come from the French Colonies. Whatever their status as inhabitants of France and we treat them as such. How could it be otherwise when so many of them fought by our sides to save France?
That a small number of one American visitors who forget that the French republic makes no differentiation among the inhabitants of its immense empire, whatever their race or the color of their skin, will, we hope, regard our black citizens as good as the rest of us. And we expect our visitors to obey our rule, which proceeds not from law, but from our character and customs, by virtue of whom we form one grand family from none of them are disherrited."
We are deeply interested in the above statement, because it affects the darker races of the world. And too, we believe the French people mean just what they say and are not ready to back it up without fear or favor.
tion of soul-saving is not discussed at any length, nor is anything said about the disposition to be made of the black man's soul. It is taken for granted that the black man is now capable of saving his own soul. It is taken for granted that the black man is now capable of saving his own soul. If this admission has been made, it amounts to a congratulation for the black church organization which was held not eligible to the higher ranking Christian bodies worshiping under the Methodist banner. The re-union may result into one white church, but God wants more than one white church. He wants ONE church, and the adjective need not be used. When there is a reunion of the churches—all the churches, regardless of section, of color, of mode of worship—then will it be of interest to mankind and of value in heaven to speak of ONE church.
Know the local news as well as important facts from other centers by thoroughly reading each issue of the Bulletin. Too often do many find reading of lynching and burnings more important than what their civic bodies are doing.
It is glorious to speak of the eight to twenty pages of other papers, but will it not be more glorious when you can point, with pride, to your own twenty-page paper? These things are possible if thought is given to future possibilities and support is given now to the building of a greater edition. There are great possibilities in the Northwest for our journals. But it takes new subscribers and payment of back subscriptions by old ones to do this. Possibly many who only owe for a year's subscription consider it of small significance towards maintaining a paper. But when several hundred people feel the same way it can be achieved this sum could be of much service in building a greater paper. Your home paper does much for you and your city, if you are interested in seeing your paper succeed, boost for it.

Supreme Worthy Counsellor, Ernest G. He was a man of mission. He is a great man, and I would say that Miss Johnson, the Grand Worthy Counsellor, is a great man.
Tuesday morning, the Supreme lodge was called to order, and the upstairs commissioned to take up the get up by commissioning them done, they proceeded to go through some other kind of business, known as the delegation opening, form after declaration opening, and when this was done, a man known to them as Master-at-arms, escorted them in one more time, and the delegation time since 1911 that Virginia had been seated with their brethren, but spending thousands of dollars, and making the Supreme Lodge do likewise; trying to get out of obeying the men stood, they shook hands with their nearest neighbors.
