He has six children, two boys and four girls. These children will be grown more and their dad rich and well-fund. Will these children marry? It does not require a mere to see this and it clearly makes our own enterprises and support and make our own businesses and promote, especially among this younger set, of the race living the wealth and affinity. Suppose a few of our poverty doiesse and dismeasure their lionage, and we can support their member of your own race in the role of raising your money, even extravagantly, and bring a similar stem with it. We need to learn the fundamentals of building and, to do this we must study the primary races of raising your money, living together and falling together. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, in fourteenth annual conference assembled, has always stood and most solemnly pledges itself to use all of the means at its command to the furtherance of the task which it has undertaken until now. It sends greetings to the twelve million of American colored people grieved over the murder of awakening black people, and to the hundred thousand members, both white and colored, it represents. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, in fourteenth annual conference, with which those evil acts are breaking away. Agencies have the country to remedy, if not to uproot, some of these evil acts since the end of the country, to the public气 and demanding that they be done away with. The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, speaking directly for its membership of one hundred million colored people of the United States, represents the sentiments of twelve million people to the following truth: 1. OFFICER. THEY'RE AT IT AGAIN! According to reports brought back to Houston by delegates and visitors to the National Baptist Convention, unincorporated, which met in Ft. Worth last week, the Baptists are still up to their old tricks of splitting and dividing. With a delegation that fell far below the one thousand mark, it is alleged that the Jones forces and the National Baptist Convention sprang into existence; the wrangle and disagreement being precipitated over the offices and the spoils that go with them. Police officers were even dispatched to the church to maintain order. If this report is true (and we heard it from supposedly reliable sources) we are convinced that the National Baptist have again brought disgrace and contumely upon their race and denomination and played into the hands of critics and enemies, who contend that the colored race is incapable of self-government, self-determination, and self-improvability. In occupied in Chicago some few years back, was uncalled for, unprovoked and unwarranted and played no small part in disgusting intelligent people with the denomination and its affairs. Why do the colored people split so much will and do inquire, according to its final analysis and stripped of all superfluous trimming, it is because there are too many selfish offenses, misfits and incompetents clamoring for leadership and positions of power and trust; it is the insane and insatiate desire to attain such offices where one can feast at the pie counter; where one can build up a powerful machine and perpetuate himself and friends The Baptist church is fast drifting into an episcopacy, or bette- still (or worse, for the good of the cause and race), a religious autocracy and plutocracy—where a few men, holding office by the choice and vote of the people, become intoxicated with their power and endeavor to run rough shod over the will and wishes of their community. Democracy—the rule of the people—is becoming a faded memory among colored Baptists in this country. (Let us pray!) Ministers and religious leaders are being delegated with too much power and authority, and, where same is not delegated unto them, they proceed to delegate or arrogate same unto themselves; then pass edicts, issue ultimatums and assume a yamamai (the yamamai) attitude, which matters that fail to meet their "holy and divine" apprehension. The laymen have indulged in entirely too much hero-worship, with the result that an alarming large number of our preachers and high churchmen seem to think that they are gods and, as such, can make no mistake nor commit any error. The Informer has steadfastly contended that the annual meetings of the Baptists constitute a criminal waste of time and high churchmen seem to think that they are gods and, as such, can pass no laws governing the state conventions, district associations nor local churches. Each local Baptist church is sovereign within itself; at least, fundamentally and constitutionally this is true. Since these annual gatherers are nothing more or less than wholesale vacations and "good-times" occasions for the majority of the ministers; and the power of the church as the goad of biennial conventions falls upon deaf, unresponsive, and unsympathetic ears. It is not surprising, then, with such a carnal spirit permitting the atmosphere and pervading the meetings, for men to resort to political tricks and tactics to retain or gain office and then when they are not in power, to use the "people's rights," "too much bossism," "cazism," etc., and lead out certain dupes and nincompoops into another convention. It requires little or no brains to tear down, but it takes an honest-to-godness, genuine M-A-N with much brains and a big heart, to build up a movement or organization and then labor unselfishly for the benefit of others. Selfish leadership and intoxicated egists will spell defeat to and seal the doom of any movement or organization in church or state. Why, things have come to such a pass in Baptist circles that ministers and leaders in the church escaped the state, and they believe that they own the churches they pastor or the religious bodies over which they preside. If you doubt this assertion, just let some local Baptist church try to unhorsise its pastor, even for conduct unbecoming a minister, and then watch this gospel expounder tear up the church and lead a large number of the colored Baptists have so many local churches and such a superabundance of associations and conventions? Just to give a large number of the "Lord's annotated" a job or a sinceral position. The Informer is deeply pleased that our Baptist brethren have a disgruntled audience, their race and denomination by their recruitment and division at Fort Worth, when tactics that would have not ward heckers and designing politicians to shame, were RESOSTED to by one of the分店s in a vain and futile effort to stave off defeat of their ticket. The Baptist denomination is the largest single religious body among our people in America, and it is to be regretted so many of their leaders are so full of selfishness, meanness, politics and mindlessness that the cause and work can not get a decent hearing and fair chance. In this connection, permit us to state that, unless the Baptist leaders, especially the preachers, assume a different attitude and are new program, it will not long before all the intelligent and upstanding young people are going to either become religiously dormant or forsake the Baptist fold. They are tired, sick, disgusted and exasperated with the past and sickness of affairs in the church, organizations, and they are demanding a new deck and a new deal. Let these Baptist splitters, autocrats, graffers and politicians bear in mind that "in union there is strength," and victory; but division there is weakness and ultimate disaster and defeat. Selah! Every city in the Lone Star State that has any musical following, is requested to ask their music dealers and phonograph shops to display, conspicuously, in their show windows songs, records, or CDs. The pastors of the colored churches are requested to devote one service during that week to the religious songs of race composers. In his letter Mr. Hackney makes this observation: "In this way you will not only help to advance the talented New Orleans musicians in the music-making of this country, but you will give encouragement to the hundreds of white music dealers, right here in the South and in our own state, who have spent hundreds of dollars to advertise their following slogan has been adopted for Negro Music Week: "Buy more of the music you love and understand best." This is a worthy and meritious movement and meets The Informer's unqualified and unstinted endorsement. The following slogan has been far more effective during that week, if they will advertise their songs, records and rolls in colored newspapers; not only will they be助 you the movement, but they will also be making a fine business stroke, for such publicity will certainly bring customers and make sales. The musicians will be the greatest great artists and Dr. Frank Crane, the noted editorial writer, pays the race a tribute by saying that "the only typical American music is Negro music." Any number of the famous American white concert singers have been the compositions in the repertoire and often bring down the house with their rendition. While there has been a great disposition on the part of our people (and other races, too) to purchase any number of colored hats and jigs compositions, some of the better and more classical composers and artists have not enjoyed such good sales. Of course, most music dealers have put their major efforts on selling these jazzy and light numbers, working along the line that they are intended to represent the people what they want. They would be a splendid instrument for Negro songs, song by well-trained voices, at the City Auditorium or some place, during Negro Music Week and let the net proceeds go to some charitable and landable undertaking or movement. The suggested program will be executed in Houston and all Texas colleges that have any colored musical following, during some week in October; for our artists and composers are worthy of and deserve all that we can accord them. While jazzy and make Negro Music Week an especial occasion and thereby boost the stock of our singers, artists and composers. They deserve it and we can put it over. What may we do? PERCY L.
