DEFENSE FUND NEARS GOAL HOME EDITION THE MIRROR BY C. F. RICHARDSON. PUBLICITY. We either attend in this column, last week to the fact that the grand lodge of the Colored Knights of Python is friendly to employage advertisements in race newspapers in this state; also citing attention to the fact that full page advertisements for the Python of Texans is an unhated pub of colored fraternals in the world! Dealing in cold facts and figures, liaisons with the public could have been styled, consistently, a Python edition for 5088 apa lines of text, and play, reading and editorial matter. Of course, there was no charge to attend the order and race, and it was mighty good public matter, but it was mighty good public for the order and race, and it was vaning the cause of the order in Texas, as well as our racial group and play. Talking in terms that the average layman and reader can understand and employ, it was employed in last week's Informer. Come near how hourly about 80 %12 were employed to employ the workers in the order last week, established a new ad-hoc publicity order in America. Recognizing The Company as one of the largest mediums in the state and South, the grand lodge officers selected this paper, an active native state to carry their message to the reading public, duplicating their two-page ad-unit. One of the large advertisements announces a competition for the prize in Calvans, the center being between five thousand, West San Antonio and Galveston. The drive officially got under way on the day and will close on the 12th. Here is an asterisk opportunity for Houstonians to not only help their business campaign, but to also connect themselves with the of the strongest people in the world; and it only makes our people in the world; and it only. Prof. T. H. Brawley, drive director has opened headquarters in the U. B. F. building at 409 W. Milton street in Houston and his local members are asking Houstonians to rally to their standard and to support this competitive membership drive. Their slogan is "Akay any Python or MAYBE THEY'LL TAG 'EM! RACE ALDERMEN HOUSTON EDITOR LAUNCH CHICAGO SPOKE IN ISLAND COUNCIL FIGHTS CITY LAST WEEK (BY The Associated Negro Press.) Chicago, IL—Alderman L. B. Anderson, a member of our group, is ending a fight over a memorial of a fire engine house and a memorial of a Wake Forest airplane. The boulevard is named after Wake Forest, the system. The alderman is one of three members of the Central Railroad ordinance of 1913, which make certain changes in the Illinois Central Railroad ordinance of 1913, benefit to the railroad because of improved values. The alderman has requested the railroad a site for the memorial station over the tracks in Chicago's Randolph Chicago. "The area will need fire protection," said Mr. Anderson, "and the city needs those who have given their lives in dischairing their museum." The memorial Station as proposed by the alderman embodies what might be the most important thing among those who have given their lives in dischairing their museum. Another indication of the activity of the members of our group in the city is the fire department, which is opposed by Alderman R. R. Jackson to protect the city from fire disease or unburned buildings. He claims that the ordinance proposed by Alderman R. R. Jackson is ruin; the alderman, however, contends that the health of the city is more than adequate. Washington, D. C. There is wide comment on that portion of the message of President Coolidge to congress, devoted to the Negro. This expression is regarded generally as the frankest and boldest deliverance of a modern president on the subject. The comments are not without mixed opinions and emotions, and even the president himself has said that in some respects, his utterances are tempered with a measure of condescension to the "established customs which have long had the sanction of enlightened society." On the other hand, there is that actual minority group, only one in ten of the great population of the nation, with the wealth neither of permanent or organizational on the Negro side. "There are times when we have to take low, and we have to compilate that which others are able to force." The force is one of the two extremes, or develop for him. NO MAN IS ENTITLED TO MORE AND NO MAN RECEIVE REQUEST LESS. — ROSEBEVELT. HOUSTON, TEXAS, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 19, 1925 OUR ATTITUDE ON TARVER MISUNDERSTOOD. The article which appeared in The Mirror column of The Informer under date of Saturday, November 14, 1925, "Tarver and Ye Scribe," has apparently been misinterpreted and misunderstood by many of our people in this state, and some have even charged that The Informer and its editor have "been bought" by Mr. Tarver and those backing his candidacy for principal of Prairie View State Normal and Industrial College. Many, misconstruing his silence for this matter, have openly stated that Tarver and fronts" since Tarver's recent visit to Houston; when, as a matter of fact, we did not it seem necessary to continue to waste our ammunition on dead this. That our people must learn to differ with each other on principles and then not be personal enemies; that principles and personalities, issues and individuals, men and measures are two different propositions, and that we should not confuse them and fly off on a tangent. For the sake and benefit of those who read the article without understanding it and to properly inform those who did not see said editorial expression in this matter, we reproduce it here "verbatim et punctuum et litteratum:" **TARVER AND YE SORIBRE.** Some of our people were surprised to see Prof. H. M. Tarver, candidate for principal of Prairie View State College, who spent many years in the school and since we have been so outspoken in our position against the school's policies, we have differed in our position against him or his program. Because man differ and have opinions of their own, is no safe or rational reason why they should be personal enemies, and this writer has never been able to find room in his heart to harbor any illusion about the school's policies, he would see just as him or his program. If Mr. Tarver should be elected principal of Prairie View, even if he had a horribly opposed the appointment for reasons other than personal, he would find just as willing to assist and aid cause and program as if we were an original Tarver supporter. When we get kicked in a fight, we offer no alibi or subterfuge, and are willing to admit our opponent was either the best man or bad man. Knowing Mr. Tarver as we do, we know that he is too big for such foolishness and nonsense; for all sensible and reasonable men, we know that he is not the best man and express it even though they hold divergent views. Call again, Brer Tarver; we admire some of your puck, push, and shove. Having reproduced the above article, word for word, as it appeared in our issue of November 14, 1925, we leave it to the read- public to pass judgment whether The Informer has "been The Informer interprets what it has said in print and what its editor has told Mr. Tarver face to face: We believe that it would be a calamity to Prairie View and Negro education for Tarver to be placed at the head of this state institution of learning; and we shall stand on this ground "in spite of the devil and high water." The Informer was the first colored newspaper in Texas to start the agitation against Tarver's appointment as principal of Prairie View, and both this newspaper and its editor have labored unselfishly towards this end; not that we had any selfish desires or personal ambitions, or were hacking and supporting any particular candidate, but because we are intensely interested and deeply concerned in all matters affecting our race and the human family, and because we were perfectly within our rights as an editor and American citizen in so deft. We have no need to take to any person for what we have said about Tarver or con; and if there are any who still hold to the opinion that we have shifted our position or are trying to "run with the hand," it is their preoperative to think as they please; we reserve our inalienable right to say TELEPHONE8: p. m. The delegation for having upheld the dignity, the glory, the traditions and the chivalry of the student meeting after having protested woelforously when Mise Habel Malel were invited to the university, Washington, D. Kier is reported to have been dumb- headed and a girl from a poor girl from a Negro institution had been selected for the signal honor of representing the entire death. The chivalry prevents a young white man from showing any discrimination be- tween the young white women when the young white men meet then—the meetings being either shattered and shattered windows—it appears could not conceive why an intelligent person should be permitted to be present at meeting where the peace of the world Miss Hollyseau's election was termed an insult to the South.
