Department of Agriculture Farmers Co-Operative Demonstration work. Mr. Lowe and Dr. W. G. Kalow, our popular dentist, who is associated with Mr. Lowe, have more than a thousand spring chickens that have been milk fed and are about ready for the market. These market chickens are only a by-product as egg farming is the object of the venture. Their breeding pens will be headed by males from Barron's strain of White Leghorns. Barron, an Englishman, has the best strain of layers in the world. All experiment stations and egg-laying contests have proven the superiority of Barron's layers. Messrs. Lowe and Kalow bought eggs direct from the pen that won in the egg-laying contest last year at the Missouri State Experiment Station. This is the third year the State of Missouri has conducted these laying contests and Barron's hens, shipped from England, have won against the world each year. Messrs. Lowe and Kalow are to be complimented on being so ambitious and progressive as to want and have the world's best regardless of initial cost. They use the best make of incubators and brooders, and the farm is conducted on entirely practical and economical lines, even the shells from which the chicks are hatched are utilized. Mr. T. B. Stewart, a wealthy white farmer, placed an order this week for the incubating and brooding of 700 eggs and chicks, after visiting and seeing the practical methods used by these men. The editor of this paper has been the proud recipient of some of the milk feed broilers from this farm which he thinks almost too beautiful to be killed. Science knows no color or predgjudice. After twenty four months of successful teaching the holder is entitled to a life certificate of the same grade good anywhere in the state and recognized in thirty four other states.
