DR. J. PF. KERSH ON NATIONAL
BAPTIST CONVENTION,
tional Baptist Convention, which con-
vened a few weeks ago in the city of
Chicago, has passed into history.
This session of the convention was
quite a stormy one. Dr. Boyd lead.
ing his forces with the Rey. E. P
Jones at he head, finally pulled of
with a few of the delegates and some
of the citizens of Chicago and organ:
ized a “Rump Convention.” | Okla
homa stood pat with the Nationa
Convention, with the exception o:
the good Dr. 8. S. Jones, Revs. J. A
Anderson, 8. P. Harrison, president
of the Creek Baptist S. S. Convention
and probably Rev. Stephenson, Mod.
erator of the Creek-Seminole Associa.
tion,
This split in the National Conven
tion means a split in the various
states, for those who are for the Na.
fional Baptist Convention will not
Stand to be dragged into the “Rumy
Convention,” notwithstanding out
President collected money from the
brethren on the way to Chicago for
the purpose of representing the State
in the National Convention, but put
our money in that “Rump Conven-
tion.”
Some mean to rule or ruin and will
not be advised by any one. IT am
sure Oklahoma is not for the split,
but [am writing this to inform the
Baptists of the state that they may
be on their guard that no man can
pull the wool over your eyes and fool
you at the State Convention with a
fine flowery speech or address, and
make you believe that the “Rump
Convention” is the National Conven-
tion. To prove to you that it is not
the convention, Dr. Boyd went into
the District Court and swore out an
injunction against Dr. Morris that he
be not allowed to preside or in any
way have to do with the Convention.
This was served on Dr. Morris while
he was reading his Annual Address.
He had read it about half when the
sheriff stopped him and served the
notice. To the court house they
went, and when the Judge heard the
evidence he pronounced Dr. Morris
the rightful pvesiding oMfcer of the
National Baptist Convention. Then
off went Dr. Boyd and the few oth-
ers, and our “little” President “S. S.
Jones” trotted off after them.
Some one may say that we are
fighting, but we are not; just merely
telling the plain, simple truth. Every
word of this article ean he proven by
the Oklahoma delegation.
Dr. Morris was vnanimorsly elect-
ed President of the Conveition; and
after that “wrangling set” got out,
peace and harmony permeated the
Convention.
Rey, F. P. Jones of Mississippi. and
Sam Prince of Texas, were helped
down from the platform upon the toc
of someone's shee, it is said. I do
not know how they got down, but
they came off the platferm in an un-
rsnal way; they were not particular
to return,
Will the Baptists of Oklahoma
stand together, or will you split yvour-
selves osunder? You have been
reading the papers, and Lam sure you
are aequainted with conditions. "We
must save the Publishing Honse for
the Baptists; and unless you stay
with the National Baptist Conven
tion, you enn not save it. The Bap-
tists do not own very much there as
1 understand it, for everything be-
longs to Dr. Boyd; but the little we
do own we cannot control that. We
are merely trying to get in control of
our property if we have any, And if
we have none, we want to know it so
we can begin to arrange to purchase
and own some, I doubt very much
that we will own any of that that is
said to be ours, for I think that the
Convention has slept almost too long.
But, if it can be gotten for the Bap-
tists Oklahoma is here to do her part
in helping to secure it; and no one
need think that, because Rey, 8S. 8.
Jones, President of the State
Conveition, joined the “Rump Con-
vention” that he has represented the
sentiment of the Baptists of this
state. He only had the advantage

because the brethren trusted him
with the money and he of his own ac-
cord placed it in that “Rump Con-
vention.”” Men may mis-use the peo-
ple’s money for a while but will not
fool them oll the time and mis-use
their means. I can see thé hand-
writing on the wall for some men
now. And I can see some great ruler
whose power has reached out and
covered some portion of the earth,
trembling in his knees and his eyes
are rolling i every direction. He
has sent out for his wise men to come
rad interpret. But your men will
fool you. God yet lives in Zion and
ite will have yon interpret the hand-
writing at the proper time. A hint
to the wise is sufficient.
