The Power Company still lives with its Silver lining—"the s of a b" won't be killed.
Owing to the fact that most of our space is taken up with the publication of the delinquent tax list for Berkeley County, the Pioneer. Press is short on reading matter this week.
Like the old lion of England, Dr. S. N. Myers, youthful grows once more: he rouses, he rises, he wrestles his mane—look out the self-willed destructionist.
Infantile paralysis is spreading and, so far, baffling among the best of our American doctors. There is no telling where nor how it will end. Rigid precaution is the essential thing to enforce.
The fearful prospects of a nation wide railroad strike supposedly settled, is not, and may work untold harm to every living soul. Strikes have always done the laboring classes more harm than good.
Never have witnessed so drowsy a campaign as the one now seemingly sleeping. Better go back to the good old days of nominations and patriotic campaigning, for gumshoeing is foxy and never enthuses.
President Wilson will never win by antagonizing men and the sons of men who by their brain, pluck and money have wired and railed this great country like network together and are employing millions and millions of men. Brand them with your promised marks of Cain and you'll blight the country that gave you birth.
The ever up and down Giles B. Jackson is about to loom into lime-light again for another trouncing. This time he is to go to the President with his henchmen to pledge him support. Of the two, which has been and is our better friend(?) Haven't they both dug our graves? Let's hamstring the jerk-off-hat politician.
Do your best for all children. God requires it. Prejudice denies it. God rewards it, hell approves it. The thought took seat in our argumentative chamber by the affiliation of all classes on merit just across the border. Thirty miles North of Martinsburg, Greencastle, Pennsylvania, all children go to the same schools, meet and mingle as little men and women, and thusly go up. This way of teaching and living places the responsibility on every girl and boy for life's journey. Our way of not only separation, but segregation in the schools, the churches, the movies, in short everything. shackles one class and teaches the other a hatred of superiority, damned in God's half of justice and after death, dashed in the faces of the instigators. Better live right here, or close our churches and schools.

I, E. H. Tabler, sheriff of the County of Berkeley, do swear that the foregoing lists are, I verily believe, correct and just; and that I have received no part of the taxes for which the personal property and real estate therein mentioned is returned delinquent, and that I have used due diligence to find property within my county liable to distress for the said taxes, but have found none.
E. H. TABLEL, Sheriff.
Sworn to and subscribed before me, this 27th day of July, 1916.
PAUL H. MARTIN, N. P.
Now that Mr. Hughes knows he has been nominated for president we may wait patiently a few days longer to hear what Mr. Wilson has to say about it.
The psychologist who said that anybody can be hypnotized offers the most encouragement that Carranza has yet found for his hopes of borrowing money.
MR. HUGHES OPPOSED TO FOOLISH GOVERNMENT.
"I have no respect for the idea that because democratic government is a government of the people, by the people and for the people it is a government of the foolish, for the foolish and by the foolish."—From Mr. Hughes' Speech at Chicago.
A COAT OF ARMS.
[Washington (D. C.) Herald.]
Hobson's nation-wide plan would permit him distillation for one's own use he assures us. Says the Macon (Ga.) Telegraph:
The average Georgia sheriff is not paying a great deal of attention to the voter with the lard can, keg of molasses and the all-night fire. In the meantime we are told that he is indeed a doubtful character who cannot get what he wants in the way of homemade spirits after a sojourn of a very short time in almost any rural district.
How about a lard can rampant upon a keg of molasses, with a background of fire, as the nation-wide prohibition coat of arms?
