Mrs. O. R. Hailey received word of the death of her brother, Mr. Louis McClanahan of St. Joe, Mo. His remains were sent to Neosho, Mo., for burial. Mr. Renich Grant of Neosho Falls, Kan., spent the week-end with his brothers, A. D. and A. Grant. He drove over in his car. The funeral of Mr. Schuyler Morris, who died the 24th of July in Reno, Nev., was held last Sunday at Hickory Creek. Mr. S. O. Clayton recently gave us another treat in a vocal recital. Mr. Garfield Blackwell has accepted a position in Omaha, Neb. Miss Essie Geary of Parsons gave a vocal recital here last Friday. She is excellent. Miss Jennie McClain passed through Coffeyville last week from Okmulgee en route to Chicago to spend the remainder of the summer.
Mrs. S. A. Blye returned last Sunday from Claremore, Okla., where she attended the normal.

Rev. J. T. Smith, presiding elder, held his fourth quarterly meeting last Sunday and delivered three able sermons.
Miss Ruby McKnight and Miss Cecelia Thomas gave a musical at the Sardis Baptist church last Tuesday evening. The ladies deserve extra praise.
N. N. Gilbert and daughter Irma spent a few days in Topeka last week visiting Mr. and Mrs. William Gilbert. Miss Bessie Cartwright is home again after spending a few weeks with her sister, Mrs. H. H. McAllister, at Higginsville, Mo.

Aunt Lizzie Travis left Sunday for Lawrence, where where she was called by the sickness of her sister.
The funeral of little Irma Harris was held from St. John Baptist church last Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. Banks officiating. The floral offerings were beautiful.
Mrs. Mabel De Priest attended the Grand Chapter of the O. E. S. at Colorado Springs and en route home visited in Denver. Mrs. Jennie Vaughn Riley has returned from Bogue and Colorado Springs, where she visited for a few days. Mrs. Barney Everett made a trip to Manhattan.

The picnic was a surprise for Rev. and Mrs. Williams and when they arrived in their own car the Aid members were hidden in the bedroom and when the Rev. and Mrs. Williams entered the house they came rushing in. The guests were Mrs. John Allen, Mrs. Douglas Allen, Mrs. Lucile Wilson, Rev. and Mrs. Woods, Mr. V. B. Brady, Mi. and Mrs. Cash, Mrs. Williams, Mr. Shraler, Mrs. Dora Richardson. The Aid gave a social at night and the public was invited. The town turned out in full force. Mrs. Williams will leave soon for her school in Pittsburg.

Rev. Cousina of Lima, Okla., the
Presbyterian Sunday school mission-
ary, reorganized the Sabbath school
last Sunday. Mr. H, C. Clement
was elected superintendent. Rev. J.
Starks, pastor in charge, has started

preached an able sermon at eleven
o'clock, after which baby Joseph J.
Starks was baptized. ‘
Mrs. Wright of Guthrie rpent the
week-end with Mrs, Marquers,
Mra. Hall, an evangelist of Kan-

E. church, Guthrie, of which Dr, T.

Friday night. She was accompanied
by Dr. Greene and Mrs. Spencer.
A very sad event occurred this
week when two deaths occurred at
the home of Mother Roberts less
than twenty-four hours apart. Her
daughter, Miss Myrtle, who has been
iN for some time, pamed away Fri-
dzy morning, and her granddaugter,
little 11-year-old Bessie, passed away
Saturday morning. Both were laid
to rest in the same vault. The de:
ceased were sister and nicce of Prof,
J. E. Roberts, Rev. J. A. Curry
officiated at the burial.
