INTER-STATE Journal Kans.. and Mis ouri. Rv k L J4LTZ EDITORIAL M. Congressman Curtis, the man who fills his promise and keeps his word with those who serve him. Given not less than 3,500 in Snawnee 000 in the district. a report can notify here is safe. Ed Hoch deserves defeat because stubbs has said no negroes need apply. If "Mr Partial Stubbs" is going see Hoch in office we are agin in Men who owe the editor should say him whether they are winners are not. If you are going to vote for a man who will Protect the southern degrees, see to it. Call out the militia in every state necessary to suppress lawlessness, it is becaig too strong: Justice and fair play. We don't believe any temperance crank calls the office of Governor properly. We about us meeting and calling app General is all bosh the Capitol is given to misquotations you know that. There is nothing against the re- publican party. We want that mat- understood that Mr. Stubbs is not a it cha tee place thats all There are good fellows like Stubbs on the temperance issue, and yet complaint is made against him Just the same as it they were noty saered. Dow hypocrisy in this tight vote, for the men that give you justice in the end. Don't vote for one who will condemn your acts, and still he is a hypocrite. We honor no thieves for friends, but we don't think there will be any reason this year to refer to thieves all the state administration is worthy of election from janitors down. Mr. Roscoe Smith the assistant postmaster of Olathe should be the next Couty Clerk Mr Smith is under Mr. Sprague and he makes a fine deputy. He is entitled to the office of County Clerk by reason of his uniring work for the party Vote for Rose e Smith Vote your convictions don't let Mr Hoch or Mr Dale get the better part of your judgement but vote for Curtis and the remainder of the follows who appear before you worthy of your support. Mr Curtis will win by from 8,000 to 1,000 he is in no danger. Stand by Curtia don't let him lose one vote. This man Bolmar deserves defeet by reason of his befarious custom of doin' things. He knows he has no show and while Lindsay is in for a good vote Mr. Betts is going to run ahead of his ticket far enough to le Lindsay 2nd Bolmar guess where they are at, Lindsay will get more jobs than Bolmar and Betts will get more than both of them hence you can see that there will be no scratching on the art of Mr Betts friends. H. M Steele Real Estate fire and ornament insurance. 602 N Kans Ave tee him. Do not forget Geo. F. Burgeas for representative. Look over and find his name, and stay with him. The State Ledger. DO RIGHT--KNOW THAT YOU ARE RIGHT; FE & NOMAN; BUT RENDER JUSTICE TO ALL. J. B. BETTS For State Senator Despite the fact that two candidates are against Mr Betts one on the democratic and independent tickets of this county, we believe Mr Betts an easy winner. Mr Betts is worth of the place for mav. rasons, one is from point of service, the other is he is a sufferer of no small degree in the late flood of 1993 notwithstanding his great loss he and his kind "help mate" rendered valuable assistance to those who were in need. Mr. Betts is a brother of undershrift G, W. Betts and is in every way worthy of your votes. He is also the largest contractor in this state he is a model and will make an excellent Senator. J.M.BROWN AT FT. SCOTT. The Republican meeting at the opera house last evening was a success. The auditorium was well filled with voters and the crowd was one of the most enthusiastic that has been seen here, during the present campaign. Councilman H. B. Brown was made the chairman of the meeting. He introduced Mr John M; Brown, a colored gentleman, who by the way is one of the most able speakers in the state. His address was well received. His remarks were confined almost to rational issues, and the manner in which he handled his subjects indicate to the audience that he was well posted and had been a great student of the political affairs of the country. His remarks in relation to the settlement of the race trouble in the south were new and offered suggestions to his heaters that were well worthy of consideration. Mr Brown's idea was to furnish the colored people of the southern states with employment on the Panama canal and on other work in Cuba, Porto Rico and other tropical countries. As the colored people left the South there place would be taken by the white people of the North and in the course of time the a troubles would naturally disappear His suggestions on the subject were well presented and favorably impressed the audience.-Ft. Scott Republican. COMPLIMENT FOR JOHN T. LITTLE. the nominee for the supreme court on the democratic ticket is well known throughout, Kansas as a very creditable lawyer. In 1892 he held the position of Attorney General of this state and done good and serviceable work. It was much to Mr. Little's credit that he saw that the text book system was greatly reduced, ignored and placed upon a scale where a poor man could educate his children as his rich neighbor. While the Ledger speaks for Mr. Little we do not want to be misunderstood but in an independent way the construction of the foregoing statements means men and not measures anything that is at service is our motto, and we believe with Mr. Little's wide acquaintance he is a good man. If elected to the supreme bench we have heard nothing against Mr Little in his city (Olathe). At present he is major of the city and gives a great deal of his time to making Olathe a clean town. He has always conferred useful employment to colored men for the maintenance of their families and their are a chorus of voices against anyone who will save anything against him in his home town. N. W. WELLS Mr. Wells who wants to be Attorney gen. of Kans is a lawyer of Mr. Kans county, having lived there for 60 years; He was chairman of the board of pardons under gov. Leedy and was one of the fairest men on that board. Mr. Wells stands high on the state he has always treated the colored people fairly and white he is on the democratic ticket. He is a good man so far as the situation theeks implies there is no prejudice about M1, Wells of Miami. In 1900, when Theodore Roosevelt was Governor of New York, he was interviewed about the Afro-American soldier and this is what he said. I know of the character and bravery of the Afro-American soldier. He saved my life at Santiago, and I have had occasion to say so in many articles and speeches. The Rough Riders were in a bad position when the ninth and tenth calvary came rushing up the hill carrying everything before them. "The Afro-American soldier has the faculty of coming to the front when he is needed most. In the civil war he came 200,000 strong, and I believe he saved the union. He has done excellent work in all of the Indian campaigns, and while I was in the West, I had a number of opportunities of witnessing his wonderful work. He saved a massacre of the Seventh in 1890" at San Juan hill the Afro-American soldiers reordered an object lesson to all of the soldiers assembled there, they sung and fought and pushed the laggard troopers up the hill and the great victory at that point was theirs as if notmore than any of the soldiers there. Ex. Johnson County Doings. Ole Hibner the present county surveyor is running again and being a fire man makes him quite favorable to succeed himself a-ain: Mr, W T. Turner of Garden Kane is a candidate for the office of county treasurer. Mr Turner hirs lived in Johnson County nearly a halt century and every one knows him if he is elected he will make a fine treasurer: Geo: Hodge of the firm of Hodge Pros. are one of the young men who oppose Senator Sponsible for his place in the next Senate: Mr Hodge is very capable and is making new friends in his effort to secure the office: Ex Judge Buritis is running a dispute with judge Jase Jasr Orr for probate judge and Mr. Orr seems to regard him as a formiuable opposition, Mr Orr is Just ce of Peace of Qatine city BYRNS FLORAIL CO Funeral designs roses and cut flowers aspecialty. office 429 Shaw nee St Telephones new 77 old J.C.O'KEE FE.
