SON OF OLD 10TH CAVALRY VET WEST POINT CANDIDATE
Tuscon, Ariz., Dec. 3.—Vance H. Marchbanks, Jr., 19, at present a student at the University of Arizona, will take the competitive examinations at Fort Bliss, Tex., March 1, 1927, in an effort to be the first Race youth in 29 years to enter the national military academy at West Point, N. Y.
His friend and path-inker, the late Col. Charles Young, who finished from the military academy in 1889, fired him with the ambition to carry on the army traditions of his Race and family. He has devoted all of his years to preparing himself in order to be physically and mentally fit for these rigid examinations. This young man has soldiered in all of the outposts of the country and knows the manual of military tactics better than a number of the fourth year men now at the military institution.
His father, the highest ranking warrant officer with the famous Tenth cavalry, has spent the greater part of his life in the army service. At the outbreak of the World's war he was commissioned to a captaincy and saw service in the front line trenches.
On his discharge from the service as a reserve officer he immediately recompiled with his old outfit. His son has also experienced the life of a soldier everywhere except France. While his father trained his men for overseas service at Camp Meade, Mad. he lived in the barracks with him, he remained in Washington with his mother and eldest life while his father was in Europe.

COURT RULES OUT INDIANA SEGREGATION
Indianapolis, Ind., Dec. 5. The city segregation of finance, passed early this year and signed by Mayor Duravil, is institutionalized, including to a election rendered last week by the Louisville City Council, the grow out of a test case instituted by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and was based upon the Supreme court decision in the Louisville, Ky., case in 1917.
Immediately after the mayor signed the bill, the Louisville City Court in that town overturned by the Supreme court, the association opened war on it. Mass meetings were held and funds were subscribed by the citizens of Belfort to combat the transgressions in the principles into the Northland. The town by Attorney R. L. Browning and E. R. Timoson, the latter a member of the board of directors in the association.
When the segregation ordinance was proposed in this city, it was pointed out to be several unlawful lawyers that the Louisville City Court was called as president for the belief that the United States Supreme court could overrule this law. But politicians, ignoring this charter, proceeded with their plans and submitted the ordinance to the Louisville City Court. Almost upon the heels of the dissection of mayor of the city, Duravil's law conglobations act was the sliding of the law which segregated a great number of those who helped him. A demonstration was then held in the churches at which the mayor was reported to have been present.
The association started its fight on the law, employing the same tactics it used when the Louisville ordinance its own decision last week, the court declared that it could not ignore the facts as set forth by the Supreme court, consequently could decide only malefact.
AFFIDAVIT SAYS DEFENDER WAS RIGHT IN MIAMI CASE
---
New York, Dec. 22, The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, 60 Fifth Ave., has sent to the U. S. department of justice an authitiv reeling that our people were shot by U. S. marines in the course of enforced labor conscription after the recent hurricane despite doubts that any such violence had fallen place. The authitiv signed by Mrs. Mable I. Burdice reacts as follows: "Having taken a job to help out in the time of distress, she started in her time of service, she started with screaming, women, and saw three murders loving her brother, S. Ward, Jo. into the truck, one of the murders battling him with a sick.

D. C. SOCIETY IS SET AGOG OVER TRAGEDY
Mrs. Brooks' Body Is Found on Floor
Washington, D. C., Dec. 3.—Society and church circles were astounded Tuesday night when the news leaked out that the lifeless body of Mrs. Anna Chandler Brooks, 27, pretty and talented wife of the pastor of Lincoln Temple Congregational church, had been found lying in a back room of her home, 501 Euclid St., N. W. Her husband, Dr. Robert W. Brooks, told the police that he had found the body at 7:10 o'clock Tuesday night, after hearing revolver shots.
He supported the police theory that this wife had committed suicide.
A gunshot wound in her left breast and a discharged revolver by her side were the only ones the district attorney believed the magistrate, Mrs. Brooks, traced to. The bullet that brought death and pierced the left breast over the region, the fireman.
Police Seek Motive
The story that the police pieced together after prosecution by Dr. Brooks and interviewing neighbors and friends of the couple hold no satisfactory explanation for the alleged suicide. Dr. Brooks, it seems, was the victim of the shooting. As soon as he heard the firing, he said, he went next door and called James K. Handy, a neighbor, from his home at 2578 Birch St. N.W. L. Carson of 1824 Fourth St. N.W. was summoned, but promoted the woman dead when he arrived. Catherine J. Hannesey Nerwick was then notified and later examiner issued a certificate of suicidal death.
Warned Friend
A later rumor had it that just before the shooting, Mrs. Brooks telephoned a friend, Mrs. Amie Smith, 1475 Elmhurst N.W. that she was about to commit suicide. Friends of Dr. and Mrs. Brooks suggest that the young wife may have become despondent over ill health, was known as a mother of a child, was Washington's younger set and was the possessor of a strikingly beautiful voice.
New Brooks came to job eligibility at three years ago after being justor of the Pennsylvania Congregational church of Detroit, Mich. It was owing to the church's leadership that the church and the powerful influence he had with the younger people that he was called to this city to work in the church that had always been popular with the student body of Howard university.

After remaining in the City hospital for two days she was removed to her home, where she remained for some time under the supervision of the department of justice. In response to previous complaints of violence by marines, announced that it agents could not find a single instance of anyone being forced to work in the application of labor conscription. Of the mistreatment of our people by the marines was first published in a newspaper, and the national authorities confessed the persecution its arrived in Miami, and ordered the arrest of anyone caught with a copy. METHODISTS HOLD 2 MEETS IN GEORGIA
Both Presided Over by Bishop Carter
Albany, Ga., Dec. 2, 2015 - Bishop R. A. Carter opened the Georgia conference of the Colored Methodist Episcopal church here Nov. 17. Twelve years ago he was elected a member of this same conference. People came from Atlanta and the intermediate points north of Barnesville and from Montgomery, Macon and all from Atlanta. Barnesville was more packed than Barnesville. More than 1,000 people only and the yards in Barnesville were packed with automobiles. In Barnesville, the seat of the Central Georgia conference, and in the hold, the bishop presided at the table where he had pasted 25 years ago. The bishop made but few changes in the church, more in the central Georgia conference. Albany and Augusta had no changes; Macon had only two. Two other churches changed and one district displaced.
Hishop Phillips, who is also a native of Georgia, visited the lampshade of Rebecca Johnson Sunday to more than one thousand people inside and outside the church. The general officers who visited the congregation were Reva W. M. Womack, G. C. Parker, B. Bryan and the Sunday school editor.

JAIL TWO MEN FOR RECEIVING STOLEN GOODS
Boy Says Pair Forced Him to Steal
New York, Dec. 2. - George Jordan 20, 1955 Prospect Ave. was dragged into the street when he and James Polek 235 E. 150th St. were arrested and held in 6,000荷荷井, charged with receiving stolen goods in West Farms court after being arrested by Detectives Hamer and Connell, following an investigation into the actions of numerous youth who were said to have requested his help to steal. The Polek Ave. address, where Jordan is jailer.
Frank Di Bianco (levitton), 11, 2344 Clinton Ave. was recently contacted for a standing invitation $20 from a girl named Weissberg, 2114 Clinton Ave. on Oct. 1, 2014. Weissberg, 2114 Clinton Ave. on Oct. 1, 2014, was the receiver of the stolen bag, which the detectives are sold to have found with six other people in the apartment. A watch was also found in doctor's cabin, but he chatted this time with the detectives. A Clever Samurai, Pold was named by Di Bianco as being the other thief and was later apprehended.
According to the boy's story, Jordan and Pohl included him and other friends in a fundraiser whose height was lost from them. The conviction of *I. D. Boris* is thought by detectives to clear up the mystery of recent robberies in the upper-middle class, and to throw thousands of dollars. The boy further declared that Jordan would often black the boy's faces before he went to work. He would guide to ward off suspicion. The gang was once urged to hold up a drug store at the point of an automobile that Jordan gave them, then being a "murderous job."
DI Isiaco has been committed to the Catholic Pastorate by Judge Hoyt for a twelve month period, with the Catholic Failure. There is every reason in believe that the Italian boy leader of the rotten gang that made the corner of 1851 St. and Belmont Ave. its headquarter. He has the goals for it, and is known that

CHARM SCHOOLS MAY TEACH METHODS BUT REAL CHARM IS HEALTH
Thousands of Young Girls in Our Group Who Are Using St. Joseph's G. F. P. Realize That Good Health Gives Them Charm and Popularity
MISS. GRACIE WILLIAMS
One of the latest things to set the world talking is the charm school where girls and boys are taught lessons in the how, what, when and why of popularity and charm.
But most any young girl or woman of our group can tell you that the real secret of natural charm is good health, which all our women and girls can have if they are careful to keep their strength and energy up to standard always.
Thousands of our girls and women everywhere are doing this by using St. Joseph's G. F. P. to build them up any time they become weakened and run-down, whenever they are undergoing some special strain from social or other duties, and at those critical periods which make or break a woman's health.
St. Joseph's G. F. P. is proving so successful for that purpose for which it is intended that women and girls in every section of the country are coming right out in public to tell their experiences to all women of the Race.
Miss Gracie Williams of 10:47 Melrose St., Memphis, Tenn., who because of her widespread popularity in social circles must know the secret of charm and good health, says: "I felt

NEW LIGHT ON FAMOUS CIVIL WAR INCIDENT
Salem, Mass., Dec. 2.—Many conflicting stories have been related concerning the part President William J. Clinton and Private William Scott of the Vermont volunteers, who fell asleep while on pocket duty. He was ordered to be shot by a dring squad and Lincoln, the yarn sold, spared him. There was discovered recently a copy of the Salem Bweekley Register of Oct. 2, 1861. In its war column is proof that the president knew nothing of the youth's predecessor, but he believed that the youth was paranoid and restored to his post of duty. Many have contended that the president knew nothing of the youth's predecessor, but he believed that Lincoln was paranoid and restored to his post of duty. On getting no reply and fearing that the message had miscarried, he left after dark on the street, where the boy was being held to see personally that his order of clemency was curried out.
AGED WOMAN DESERTED AT CHURCH DOOR
Cab Driver Sought to Explain Mystery
Suffering from loss of memory, an angel, gray-haired woman, apparently 70 years old, was left at Bethesda Baptist church, 351 st. and Michigan Ave., late Sunday afternoon by a Yellow cab chauffeur, who is now being sought by the Third district police.
The woman carried a brown leather traveling bag and is believed to have lost arrived in Chicago from Hamilton, Ohio. She was unable to give an account of herself when questioned by members of the church attending in R Y, P, E, meeting. A partial identification was established through a search of her handbag, which revealed a plaque on which was written the name of Mr. Breckenridge and sister, 74 Chestnut St., Hamilton, Ohio. A wire was sent to Breckenridge, where he sent E. K. Martin, of Bethesda, but he received no reply, he said.
The old lady's name was established as that of Mrs. Mary Horton. She is described as being light of color, weighing about the pounds, gravel and long nose, the wore a silk shirt, brown hair, an old rose scarf, gray skirt, white waist, white hose, black shoes and a ring with a red stone setting on her right and left hands.
When he deposited the old lady at the church the cab driver explained that she had directed him to bring her a bag of flowers. But no minister by that name is at the church, the pastor said. The chanture avoided any further questioning by hurriedly driving away.
The case contains elements of mystery which the police are trying to the advanced the theory of relatives of the deceased which have used such means to get rid of her safely. Miss Mary Neal, 631 Aberdeen St., who was at the church at the time she was left there, is temporarily taking care of her.
Judges Joseph E. Hass hold Milder Henry, 52, 51H Walshgate Ave. To the grand jury under $400,000 bonds after the death of his wife, Amanda Parker, 510 northern St. The child started that the man entered her to a bed in the fear of his home and was positively identified him after he was arrested by officers Adam and Murphy.

New York, Dec. 2 — Charged with operating a large distillery in the building where he lives, a man who killed (whole) 45 of his 190 W. 19th St. a teacher of Hebrew and other languages, and Thomas Cotton, 25, 25 W. 192d St. were arrested by Detectives and the police, the leadership of Detective Sergeant Mothoven of the 123d St. station, after tenons had complained of a strong odor of alcohol in the hallways. A police practice of sparing the mails with a deodorant to kill the smell of mash and alcohol, the police said, but their supply of the chemician must have run low the distillation rate. When the detectives entered a sixroom apartment on the fourth floor they found the clergyman and his older brother blooming over an elaborate distillation room. Among the pre-Volstead paraphernalia the police found one 10-gallon still and two 50-gallon stills all in gold. The police also found 40-gallon barrels of mash; 40-gallon barrels of alcohol; one 40-gallon barrel of alcohol; three bags of grain, 400 pounds of sugar; colony extract, four one-gallon barrels and four one-gallon barrels of wobble.
There was also 25 feet of two-inch rubber hose, metal nuts, gages, pressure pumps, an assortment of several hundred feet of lumber. Rubber tubing led from the distillery apartment to the closet of the apartment and was also said to have lived. It is remarkable that the great weight of the mask and the equipment had not caused the floor to collapse. The life of life would have resulted in the case of an explosion, as manifested on the floors above and below it, they added, according to the police, the "terrorism" said that he had been operating the skill for several months.
Detectives are investigating the rumor that others in the building helped him to install his elaborate plant.

Johnsburg, South Africa. Died. 2—King Solomon of the Zulu tribe has just followed the example of his grandfather, taking into himself a 40th wife. At the conclusion of the ceremony he announced that he would not take another wife into his home, but would marry him, to match. It was love at first sight when he met Zondi, daughter of Spencer, a Christian Zulu prophet. He was married to many a Christian ancestor, a high priest in a forest glade. The bride, led from the women's quarrels by her attendants, wore a sky-blue pleated dress, a shimmering white silk jumper heavily ripped. The tangle appeared with his aides, an iron crest, an orange morning coat, a gray striped trousers, patent leather shoes and snug gloves. He swung a walking stick that had been thrown at him by Wabes, who was a guest of his while touring the continent.

The ills of infants and children should be so well known to the youngest of mothers that a reminder or a repetition of the symptoms of illness seems unnecessary, yet there are some mothers who overlook a feverish condition, a little colic, or a disposition to be irritable. If not corrected they may lead to serious sickness. And to correct them, to bring Baby back to its happy self, is so easy by the use of Castoria—a medicine prepared just for infants and children. It will regulate the bowels (not force them), aid digestion and so bring quiet and rest.

IRWIN SUSPENDED
Fred Irwin, boating promoter, was suspended for sixty days late yesterday for his poor handling of the Flowers-Huttman show at the Coliseum. Nov. 22. The suspension takes place from the 10th to the 16th.
The commission also acted upon the matter of banning shows at the Coliseum after Dec. 3, leaving the Coliseum open to public, providing public comfort is assured and that the management of the Coliseum co-operates in every way.
Tiger Flower's world's turtleweight champion, is within one pound of the weight he will must lift to play with. Mike Walker at the Coliseum that night, in the rain bout of all-star show presented by James Mullen. Flower must make 100 lbs.
From all indications the greatest crowd that ever witnessed an indoor fight in this city will be on hand to watch. As early as Tuesday noon all the $3.30 and $5.50 scans were gone.
The fast fists are trying to disguise just how strong Flower will be against the eight he has been forced to take off to make the required weight.
If he is strong enough he should easily walk, Walker and walk off on the other hand, Walker, who is under the management of Jack Kearns, the man who plotted Jack Kearns's championship, is confident of victory.
If Walker can go on and nail Flowers on the jaw he is fast enough and quick enough to finish the fight in a matter of minutes. He is in his right mitt. He is also smart and knows how to fight southpaws. The lucky holders of tickets should know that is worth miles to whites. Walker has a good chance to grab the title, because he knows that the Tiger is weak about the chin. It is worth a strong Georgian Devonshire chin is like "shoes". Flowers beat Saiter Huffman, winning every round, on November 22 and on December 16. He won the decision over Jack Malone. Flowers has beaten Malone twice. Jack Kearns chins there will be champion Friday night after Walker. He is showing flowers with rights.

WHEN the thick-court shell whistle blew Saturday it ended the greatest season of college sports better than ever before. The under dog always had a distance and not infrequently took it. The largest crowds that ever attended the forecasts of experts were thrown to the winds. Players of potential All-American caliber were developed not at a handful of large universities, but in more than 50 colleges. Yet 1925 was a year of team play with individual stars submerged. This was especially the case in the southern states and All-Southern teams will have a bewildering forest of glants to stumble through.

There were a number of first class winters in the southern conference during the post season, including such men as Garner, Alabam; Nixon, Macon; Chambers, Clark; Dixon, Morhouse; Malone, Florida; Bike Robinson, Tuskegee; Johnny Chisholm, Clark; Hall, Alabam; and Archer, Morhouse. In the final pair would get the call for anybody's All-Conference team. Hall is fast and powerful, hard to get off his feet and quick as a car, but quite difficult to run. He is the outstanding winger of the year.

Since most of the teams now employ modern football it is becoming natural to see the guards in the interference, to see the defenders in the 15-point guard who fast enough to get into the interference and as a result guards in the South have been slightly lighter than in former years with an increase in speed, to be more aggressive to guard. The other guard is given to Cromwell of Knoxville. Both are hard men to charge out of a fire thrust or play that comes between inside guard, Mock, Montgomery and arm. Tuskegee: Cohle, Chikl, Riley, Malegaa were all unimaginable and were responsible for much of the success of their respect. Tuskegee, the legacy of Tuskegee's defense, is the unanimous choice for the post play. He plays a purveyive roaring game. His has been developed and he isating will have a hard job keeping Tuskegeo off even an All-American selection. Landers of Fisk is given post choice to Tuskegeo in a match which has been one of only
A writer takes quite a load upon himself by press up much such as Paul
of equal interest to the fans in this section of the country.
Woolett Langford, Barney, Abel's "dark secret," who has victories over the Giants, will meet Indiana Jack Elkhard, the dad who stopped Sammy Bruce on Nov. 5. Langford is a Giants fan, pulling for him to go a notch higher in the fictive game by putting Elkhard to sleep with a haymaker. This business, another eight round go will be between battling Elliott (Owens) also in action and throwing the fielder, who makes his first appearance in this city, Godfrey is under the management of Jimmy Johnson and is being grounded for Tumminick. Owens is a half brood infant. He was born in Oklahoma but has spent most of his life in ranch. He is often called the "boy scraper." He went to Carlsbad, where he graduated after having played on the football and basketball fields. "Check Burns of Texas and Ralee Meteorgy, both well used in ammunition, built out of the evening jumble Williams and Harry Robert mix it in six rounds. Mullen has Matty Marle and will be in case an emergency is needed."
The first bout will start at 8:15 and the doors will be thrown open
ticket holders will receive a ticket holders plenty of time to get
their right seats. Runways have been built to aid in handling the
crowd more easily. $125 and $550 tickets are all sold out. Muller announces that there are still many $750, $11 and $650 seats left, which can be purchased at the gym at 150 W. Flowers has been working out with Bob Lawson, Thurbs Burks and Jack Elkhart. Walker has been booking all the handled boys available. The handled boys are available for streamings worksouts Wednesday and will do only light bouts and real work Thursday. They are in the best trim and a great light is expected when the two enter the ring. Miller will second Flowers, Kerris will second Walker. The third man in the fighters enters the ring. In fact the State Athletic commission don't know themselves who will refuse the bout, the man will be appointed to the role that right.
South, Tuskegee, McPherson, Atlanta; Cooper, Tulalike, and Bell of Tomessee in selecting a field game against the Florida machine, Jerry Braga, the Florida flash, is without a doubt the most polished quart-tackh in all of XIXe. He has one of the best machines in Florida machine revolved throughout the year and one of the greatest belt carriers in the conference. He had one of the weakest forward in the conference and yet he gained practically all of the yardage that his team was able to chalk up. He throws all of the battleship passes in the conference and trilpe threat man without whom any All-Southern team would be nimble a vital cog. Cooper of Tulalike is also quite some time. He is in the man around whom the great Tulalike passing game is modeled. His tote has also been in evidence. The other men are all a profitable performer.
Stevenson and Beck are given the halfback assignements without a single process. Stevenson is the premier halfcarrier of the country. Once in an open field he is simply terrible. If a tackler dress he leaps into the field, he can be tackled by six or six yards still running. He has pulled at least a 2-yard run on any team not during the year. Beck is a phantom in a broken field, run, block, tackle or do anything that a backfield man could ever be required to do, he can be left off no books or not. Beck is not the books who were not notable are Kibsaway, Koxville; Marty Clark; Morris Brown; tinston; Tomesee; Clark; Gee; Talladega; E. Roberts; Clark, and Gee of Fisk.
The fullback position is simply a matter of deciding between Spat Johnson, Clark, and Howes of the NHL. Spat Johnson has a born season because of a painful ankle injury. Howes is given the call because the writer believes he is the hardest hitting plunger in the country. He hits a line like he does in the NHL, usually 5, 6, 9 and 10 yards. Johnson is forced to the second team. The question might arise as to our reason for shifting Sanders to center and Crawford to guard position. The answer is this: In the guard positions we struck a snag which we failed to surrender except by substitution. To our way of thinking there is a matter of being better than the others. Slaughter, Colb, Cook, Colbler, Sam and another matter in the conference who merited a position on the All-Southern team by virtue of being better than the others. Slaughter, Colb, Cook, Colbler, Sam and another degree honorable mention, but to place any of these men at the guards it was necessary to leave Sanders and Crawford off the team, which would be decided to shift these two great linemen to guard positions.

UNION BOWS TO HAMPTON
By JAMES B CLARKE
Hampton Institute, Yt. Nov. 25—The big Blue and White machine of Hampton institute marched victoriously over the Union university field at 5:00 a.m. on Armstrong field for a score of 12 to 0, which makes them champions of the C. L. A. A. possessors of the Shattuck trophy. The game was full of thrills and excitement from start to finish. The team was well prepared with unremitting fierceness, minus any show of rancor. Both teams showed magnificent spirit and the team's backs were backed and forth between the two 20-yard lines. The teams were so evenly balanced and the defensive strength of them so pronounced that the team was at a heavy price and extreme effort.
Hampton, however, had a bitch on the red and Steel player when he jabbed Union for frequent first down numbering 13 to 5. The game was played by Hampton without a single substitution, while Union made a backfield swift as lightning, but Hampton's forward well seemed to lift through and break up plays at fumbles made by Bylod of Hampton in receiving Breaux's punts that put Hampton in a dangerous position. Each time Breaux failed to kick for the first score of the battle came in the second quarter when Hampton was held for downs on the 2-yard line after receiving the ball. Breaux was to kick the ball out from behind the goal posts, but in kicking he stepped outside of the end zone, thus countering. Union kicked to Hampton after that and then Hampton returned the punt. Union got possession of the ball and was kicked to kick. Union then allowed to allow kicker to drop-kick from the 60-yard line. Thatatcher, playing his last game of football for the Blue and White team, did a story as he lifted
Hampton kicked off to Union and Breaux returned the punt on the first play, which byrd fumbled and Union failed to drop-kick. Hampton was given possession of the ball on the 20-yard line. There was an exchange of ball and knee, which crippled of a first down, but the ball was lost on the next play. Byrd fumbled Breaux's punt and Ruffin of Union covered it on the 35-yard line. Byrd fumbled Breaux's punt and Hampton was given possession of the ball and baker kicked to Union's 12-yard line. The first pass by Hampton gained a gain of 14 yards to baker.

Whirlwind Has Same Old Horse Shoe With Him
] That Whitfield Johnson, former Lincoln university football star and head coach of the university grid stars is a fuzzy yellow was demonstrated turkey day at Atlanta U to a 0.4 lift. Johnson has a horsehoe above the beak worth your life to move it. Those who have seen it there now know the reason why. Johnson has played his entire athletic career has never played a hockey Thanksgiving day game. If his team had their opponents, he'd skid.
And, now, since the former backfield use of the lions has entered a wave of coaching the all-believes in the horseshoe and the fads are beginning to believe there is something in it now, especially Mr. Brown, as the under dog, upset the dope.
