Abbott, the Chicago Defender, and Miss Edith F. Wyatt of the Illinois Children's Home and Aid society, were working unceasingly and unanticipatedly to find life for the sake of the little child. The case of Sam Washington was first called to the attention of Mrs. Abbott, who is chairman of the Colored Children's auxiliary in the Illinois Children's Childrens' Aid Cell was made upon her to find a suitable home for the Washington boy. Investigation of the case revealed the fact that the child was motherless and his father Sam Washington of the women with whom he had lived out of woodlock. There were no other relatives to care for the Lay, Mrs. Abbott, every ready to offer help, so she called them, was unusually touched by the tragic situation which she confronted the child. TRAPS WIFE --- Denver Drafts 'White Block' Plan SEE FAILURE OF CHURCH UNION DRAFT PLANS FOR JIM CROW IN COLORADO Denver Starts "White Only" System Denver, Colo., March 4.—Virtually all of the property embraced in the McCullough and adjacent additions to Denver will soon have "restriction" covenants running with the land, if a campaign recently instituted by the City Park Improvement association is successful. The association, later incorporated to supplant the McCullough Improvement association, has three weeks been circulating restriction agreements which would bar, at least until the next time, selling property included within the area to persons not of the white race. May Be Forfeited By the terms of the agreement any violation subjects the property to forfeiture, or to damages for violation, and leaves to all owners not included in the conveyance an opening to enforcement of the specific performance, abatement, decrement, injunction, or by any other proper judicial proceedings. The action of the improvement association is an outgrowth of the recent recurrences near the residence of our race, at 2253 Vine St. Carrington moved to another section of the city last week. "We did not countenance or approve the violence there enacted," said J. J. Colla, secretary of the imminent recurrences by every means to prevent the rise of racial feeling and possible blood-shed. Prevent Similar Occurrence We are now seeking by the lawful means at our command to prevent recurrences in the future. We cannot pass an ordinance, or have a law enacted, but each man can restrict his property to exclude Negroes if he so desires. Laws of the association pointed out that the high courts of the country have sustained restriction clauses, both as to class of person who may occupy property and to the class of business which may be conducted upon particular premises. It is understood that the law will make conviction in line with the City park group and will shortly have restriction agreements in circulation. No figures are now available as to the number of property owners who have acceded to the agreement in the McCulloch addition, but officers said the "work had almost been completed." More than 75 per cent of resident counties in that district are said now to be members of the association. The officers include: William A. McCutechon, president; C. W. Lewis, vice president; J. J. Linn, treasurer, and J. J. Colla, secretary. The district compiling the McCulloch addition information includes wretfully all the land lying between Franklin St. and City Park, and between E. 15th and E. 20th Aves. THE RACE LACTIC COOPERATIVE BUSINESS ENTERPRISES SUCCESS PETTY JEALOUSIES White Girl, 18, Sentenced for Flogging Thompson, Ga. March 4—Luth Foster, 15-year-old white girl, member of a prominent family in the agricu- rultural community of this county, is under suspended sentence of 12 weeks for the failure to answer the result of her conviction of participa- tating in the dogging of a Race man and his wife. With her brother and four other men, Miss Foster stood trial Wednesday, Feb. 23, and was convicted. Her sentence was suspended. The others witnessed were Claude Hoster, John Watson, Jim Harvey and Olm Maddling. Severely Beaten Frank Gill and his wife testified that the five men and the girl came to their home one night about three weeks ago and accused them of stealing liquor. Despite their pleas of innocence, the witnesses and assaults took from their house and whined them severely. Miss Foster admitted she accompanied the men, but denied actual participation in the assault. She remained in an automobile, she said, and accompanied the man to the house of Gill and his wife. The sockers were not masked and Gill reported the beating at once to county authorities, who investigated with unusual alacrity. Questioned, the defendants unhesitatingly admitted to the court that they loftily explained that "they deserved what they got." A Georgia jury for once decided otherwise. Bloodhounds Seek Slayer of Man in Florida Swamp Raton Rouge, La., March 4—Louis Flaming is being sought by the police after he was found in a thicket near Lake Charles last week. Their destination is Canute field, New York. The starting was a gala affair and everything was ideal for the attempt, which is destined to make history if successful. The crowd, made up of all races, was in fine mood for the start, and the crowd continued their shrieks and sirens in a frenzied bon voyage to the two barely aviators, who, with little encouragement from the white race and just a little encouragement from their hazardous journey, at just a little after a the plane, with Foreman at the wheel, circled the field slowly and majestically toward the northeast. A few minutes later and the roaring of the power engine had passed before entering. At the field to see them off was Mrs. Foreman, mother of the aviator, and his young wife, Mrs. Joe Foreman. This couple was the first to arrive at Eagle airport and was the last to leave after the crowd had disappeared. They came to the route mapped out for themselves, Foreman and Ward should arrive in Chicago Wednesday afternoon, carrying with them a message to The Chicago Defender from the Defender west coast representing conditions to aid them. Foreman should land at Canucks field not later than Thursday night. This, they declare, is a trial flight, for which they will receive $1,000 in the A. M. it completed. With the A. M. Foreman, they plan to trail their plans in New York. and make a supreme effort to set a countryside coast back to Los Angeles. Organizations worked almost as a unit in giving these aviators a rousing farewell from Los Angeles churches, lodges and churches turned out in numbers to see them off. The N. A. A. C. P. and Negro Business League took the most prominent role in rendering necessary service and making arrangements for the flight. Louisianan Sentenced on New Orleans, March 4—John D. March 5.—The body of Tom Smith, for more than half a century an employee of the Missouri Pacific railroad, was found last week ground to place on the trucks a short distance from this location on which Smith hadidden to Newblist to Walk was found slain. NATIONAL EDITION 'LEADERS OF BOTH BODIES ARE OPPOSED' A. M. E. Pastor Cites Difficulties in Way --- Pittsburgh, Pa., March 4. The proposed organic union of the A. M. E. and A. M. E. Zion churches, which was announced the first of the year, following a meeting of bishops of both churches in Washington, will be a difficult, if not improbable event, and it is actually inspired by motives that are described as questionable, according to a statement issued here by Dr. E. L. Madison, pastor of the John Wesley A. M. E. Zion church and an influential figure in the finer councils of that connection. The second step in such a union is scheduled to take place at the Zion bishops' council which meets in this city the second week in June. Both Sides Object "The most outstanding and influential leaders in both bodies have consistently opposed such a union for the principal reason that the actual result of it will be the formation of a new church under the name Mr. Madison declared. Many adherents of both churches will split from the united body and remain what they are thus forming, an A. M. E. church, an A. M. K. Zion church, and a third church body containing those who he declared. Thus will the aim of such a movement be defeated. The proposed union was opposed vigorously by two of the most dominant figures the church has had, the Rev. James C. M. E. church and Bishop J. W. Hood of the Zion connection stood consistently for the two churches being separate. Many of the leaders in both churches who are living here exerted their influence once more, although there has arisen a more favorable attitude toward it very recently. Bishop C. C. Allesye voiced what was the provailing sentiment of a majority of the laymen James Carter New Minister to Liberia Washington, D. C. March 4—The presidential appointment of James G. Carter, present consul at Tannarive, Madagascar, to be minister resident and consul general of Liberia, was confirmed by the senate Tuesday. He was born in Brunswick, Ga. Dec. 15, 1877, and was educated in the grammar, normal and industrial schools of Madagascar, and later entered a paper in his native state. For two years he served as a member of the examining board of the civil service in Brunswick, Ga. Mr. Carter entered the diplomatic service at Tannarive in 1906. He was assigned to his last post in Madagascar in 1818. The government in 1820 rated him in Class 6 as a consul and in Class 7 of the foreign service officers. The salary of minister to Liberia is $10,000, but that amount before congress authorizing an increase in the salary of the minister to Liberia is $15,000. PRICE TEN CENTS TIST MAIL CLERK FILES SUIT FOR DIVORCE Domestic Facts to Be Bared at Trial New York, N. Y., March 4. — Friends of the popular De-Witt Morse, 2124 Jerome Ave., Ironx, mail clerk at the Grand Central postoffice, are looking forward with great interest to the outcome of his suit for absolute divorce and custody of his child against his comely wife, Mr. Ehlok Morse of 225 W. 140th St. The case has been in the hands of his attorney during the past three years and the climax came Saturday night when he and several witnesses directed by the Boston National Detective Agency, raided the dental office of Harvey J. Wheaton, 357 Seventh Ave. "Untold Humiliation" Mr. Morse asserts that since his separation from his wife five years ago, he has suffered untold embarrassment. She said him for separation and was awarded $15 per week alimony, which he has fulfilled since 1923. He further states that the department and many escapes of his department during this time has caused him harm, and with certainty urged his present action. He relates many instances where his wife has been in company with other men very frequently, and he alleges that she actually was the common cause of his affliction, living at 290 W. 140th St. whom he named as correspondent in a counties suit when she was given alimony in the Supreme court. Soon after resigning her employment as a mailmaster in a tea room in New York, she returned to summer. Morse states that through information revealed by the detectives, Mrs. Morse began her artistic love affair with the well-known young artist of the prominent New York artist, the late Frank Wheaton. It is alleged that he and Mrs. Morse have been almost constantly together during the last few years, and that they cultured and exclusive social functions. On one occasion in particular, the detectives chanced that in escorting her home in W. 140th St. New York, the artist spent over an hour bidding for her at her decorate, kissing her profusely and his violent love was unmistakable; as the Roulin operators looked on, from across the street. Her love was with such serpentina that her actions have been recorded almost daily. Raid Wheaton's Office When Dr. Wheaton's offices were raided by Mr. Morse and his witnesses, they had watched the front windows, for several hours after Mrs. Morse left, and clearly dark, and no signs of litness from the outside. At midnight they decided to enter and when everything was all in readiness knocked on the door and the pair was startled, they ran out and the same time opening the door. The raiding party entered and Mrs. Morse was confronted by her husband. Taken completely by surprise, she was unable to give an answer. Dr. Morse explained why the lady was in his office, why late hour at night with the room entirely in darkness, Mr. Morse, after consultation with his counsel, John W. Smith, 26 Cortland St., said his wife was early hearing in the Bronx County where she were married in this city in 1920. He is a world war veteran and has served in the postoffice ten years. They have a son 6 years old who is now with his mother, Mrs. Morse. He is a member of the team and a member of a number of clubs and has been a prominent figure in social and charitable benefits. That our Race is awake to local and national political issues was demonstrated in the recent Chicago primary voting for candidates to run for mayor of the city, an author on political affairs and a writer for The Chicago Evening American, stated in his column Tuesday that the recent primary in Chicago to the city and the votes of our Race are not to be "delivered." It was and is with William Hate Thompson and no power leadership can effect its loyalty, the writer asserted. He states further that the Race brought money into the city, amounts big and little, until more ship of the sorority and the guests present at the tea were some of the intellectuals of the women of our group in the city, who were Doraley Science, Vivienne Shurland, Ermine Perkins, Helen Mielan, Mabel Dug THOMPSON HITS COLOR ISSUES IN CAMPAIGN Just what will be William Hale Thompson's attitude toward all citizens of Chicago when he is elected mayor next month was being he issued Tuesday in answer to a challenge by the city's Democratic force that "Chicago will be trapped by the black belt, the gunned and the so far as I am concerned" said Mr. Thompson, "the black finger that is good enough to pull a trigger in defense of the American flag." This statement followed the remark by the former and future mayor that it was a Democratic president who placed uniforms and weapons them to be targets in defense of the American flag. Now the Democratic forces in Chicago are seeking to inject the color line into the city, and withdraw voters away from Mr. Thompson. Such tactics do not work in Chicago, one of his followers, statement will bring more friends to his side. PREDICT FAILURE FOR CHURCH UNION PREDICT FAILURE FOR CHURCH UNION (Continued from Page 1) and ministers of the Zion church in the general conference at Knoxville in 1920. The idea is generally looked at askance by the great majority of ministers of the church. "There seems to be a lack of any good reason advanced by those who are pushing the plan," said this minister, "except on the part of the few bishops who have been daring in their advocacy of it. Most of the experienced and influential men in the church have assumed a resentant attitude in the matter." Churches Not Ready Churches in this city are generally older than many other historians who are familiar with the history of such agitation have declared that it has little chance of being effective. The general disturbances and splits it would cause among church leaders. Bishop J. W. Walls of Charlotte, N. C., who passed through Pittsburgh last week, expressed great concern concerning the proposed union. NAB ESCAPED SLAYER Torakama, Ark. The 20,000 majority given to Thompson in the 2012 election might tribute to the man who has always given our citizens all that he has a square deal, under the Constitution, land—and no person or group can ask for more. His article was a compliment and a citation of ability of our citizens in the city to select, back and elect their own choice without the aid of white birdlings. It is hoped that the aid of white birdlings face throughout the country may be looked up to with respect, as a group that is solid for the person or person, a promise, but give as a square deal. B. I. Bubolla of New York city, distinguished sociologist, publisher and lecturer, delivered an onstage address in the Modern World. Although the hour was scheduled for 3 o'clock at 2:30 there was standing room for the audience. Under the auspices of the board of directors of the Binga State bank, who are fostering a series of lectures in education them in thrift and the development of their economic life. Jesse Binga, president of the Binga State bank, was master of ceremonies for the coroner Eugene Marshall. Mr. Binga introduced the members of the board of directors to the audience, and Senator Adelbert H. Roberts, eloquently introduced Dr. Duhlus, who described the last informed me on finance. Traces Banking History Dr. Durbin delved into the early history of banking, the methods of saving as practiced by the ancient Greeks, and the institutions established in Liberty, although controlled by England, and down through the years to the present time, giving an analysis of banking history. He further told of the $40,000,000 deposited in banks by our group, where we can have little voice or interest, and no part at all in the operations, whereas if this money were deposited in our own banks and our forces concentrated as demonstrated by the vast audience present, we would gently hint if we wanted a thing, whereas now we must almost throw stones and yell in order to be heard. Stresses Thrift Dr. Dilbs brought home many thoughts of the thrift, which seemed to reach the hearts of the South. He put together a practical step in the economic life to be developed in Chicago. He were furnished by the Korean Baptist church, Issue Yarbrough, director, and T. T. Taylor presided at the piano in the absence of his family. He fitted in her home on account of illness, Walter H. Dilby, violinist, and Mrs. Wilk Shaun, soprano, artists in following the lecture a testimonial banquet was held at the Vineyard hotel by the stockholders of the company. Following the speakers' table were Dr. Dilbs, Jesse Hinga, Col. John R. Marshall, vice president, and James L. G. Dilley, associate priest, Rev. C. H. Clark, William A. Robinson, Senator Adolph H. Roberts, R. K. Webb, Dr. A. K. Williams, Dr. James R. White, Attorney Wendell Green, Attorney Emmanuel M. Knight, known and M. T. Ralley, Music man known by Dave Peyton's orchestra. Prominent D. C. In answer to this allow me to say, I do not believe in writing longer ones; first because there are others who write along my same lines and they are more capable; second, I hardly have time to write anything, and third, I write all that I know every time I write, so that I can write about business and the outlines for the same. I regret to say that it does not look so bright for the summer season—it has already fallen before the regular business season. The Columbia Burlesque has closed several companies that were to play longer and also closed some of the companies that were to invest stock. The face theaters are not doing much anywhere, of course, we always find some excuse, so this is one. Well, it is always off course, money will be growing on little bushes and not on trees as it is not hard to reach on bushes and all you will have to do is to shop and saturate yourself. We will wait for the bush money itself, in fact, I cannot. I must make mine now. I suppose you are wondering how. Well, this is how they open up, April 12 and Old Simity is doing the. I was just thinking and wondering if we had some real three pictures with real stars appearing in them, big settings with all details carefully looked after, a real director and cameraman, I mean a picture that would compare favorably with the real ones and Paramount, I feel sure it would do business. Would you believe that I am still booking "Easy Money" a picture that I made about five years ago, and the ones who produce them, this for I believe that three pictures will make money for our theaters and the ones who produce them, so I am going to try and get just such a picture, and then see how many live managers we have. In fact, I think if we had some firm production about twelve pictures a year it would mean that we would have a lot of money it does cost a lot of money so put a picture out when you do it right. The public has not the slightest idea of the cost of producing one picture, it straightens out, so that you can understand it, as I myself will have to gather some more information. I do not like to mislead or write about anything, I am not thoroughly interested. P.D.—Q.Blues P.D.—Q. Blues Discworld All master, piano Waltz P. D.—Q. Blues, the kind of blues P. D—Q. House THE MUSICAL BUNCH BY DAVE PEYTON Things in General Good service in the orchestra is way into New York. They hit, and one of the thirteen that gives distinction are now considered among the best to the musician. In other orchestras in the world. They are at thirteen not just onstage. are now considered among the best orchestras in the world. They are at the present time playing at the Xavier Wayne dance palace in New York. They are also performing at a high class concert program over radio station WP7. They are over so popular in the East, on account of their united versatility and great success. John Lennon was from New York, and western musicians is a valued member of the Lorenzo Smith orchestra. **Roland Hayes** This celebrated tenor, scholar and musicians gave an excellent program in Monday night, Feb. 28th. The place Monday was crowded with ardent followers of our group. He is to us what Caruson, John Steele and John Metternack is to the Caucasian race. He is also a musician in several languages has won him untold distinction throughout the world. He draws huge crowds wherever he lives, whether in Europe or America. It would do well for our musicians to look up Roland Hayes' history, read it carefully, try to do as he has, read comfort you, keep onward as you may contend you, keep onward as you may until you reach the goal. B Minor Meledians What a queer name this is, but the old saying is "Everything is in a name", so probably it's all right after all. The B Minor Meledians do their work. They have been organized a little over a year, making an enviable reputation playing dances throughout Michigan, Ohio and Pennsylvania. They have been filling a four weeks' enclosure at Kirchner's dance palace, Columbus, Ohio. In the line-up are Billy Minor, manager and violinist; John Winehouse, bassist; Kirkwood barb and entertainer; Clarence Dorsay, trumpet; Louis Proust, trumpet; Andrew Luper, trumpone; Eugene Carroll, Celtic; George Geer, bassist; Jason Goss, string bass and rubin; and Russell Madison, trap. Grant Moore and his band, one of the finest dance aggregations in the West, are about to begin a lengthy contract at the Chicago Ballet. This combination of nine players is considered the best dance band in that part of the state. Grant says all of his boys look for the chicago theater for dance and the musicians and the timely advice in this column. A good job with this orchestra awaits a bass player who can shake a mean boot. Mull will reach Mr. Moore at 711 Cherry St. Milwaukee. Ws. Notes Glover Compton, the entertainer-smoking those long-faces and magnifying the Frenchmen with his fine talents. Clarence Moore, the violinist, assistant conductor of Dave Reporter, the music guru all that is in musicians' out of them. The kid knows his stuff all right. Loray Henderson and his orchestra are with the shuffle-long show, en Billy Page, the reed master, is now in Los Angeles, Cal. That is the first place he landed upon his return to the East shortly if there is anything doing. Billy should have stayed here in the beginning. We all liked him. German Tapp, the banjo player, is now with the Whitman sisters, going big as music. He was formerly manager of the Kentucky Melody Lads orchestra. (Bun) Scott, manager and bandist of the Cafe de Paris orchestra, Chicago, is now in the Crescent City of New Orleans, La., where he went to visit relatives. He will return to his duties in Chicago on Friday. Plunkey Jones' reunion of Boston by way of Franklin theater closed the dance skit. Four people comprised the act. Kenny Williams, Purnell Foster, Inez Lee and Plunkey Jones, proporter of the act. Purnell and Foster nicely, but must shush nicely, but must shush nicely. Plunkey was a hit at the plano. Miss Lee was dainty in some and dance and afforded a living picture scene on the plane with a quiet food. The pretty dapper art well received. leaders to want the services of such kind of man- plains. It is a real man in the time-up; they are always on the job; they leave behind them; they work for the interests of their leaders; they back the leader and conditions work and sicherly. M Dave Peyton With players of Dave Peyton and the orchestra, a leader is smirred to strenuous exertion in looking for new contracts in order to keep the players Attention to Duty The best service is given by the musician who keeps his eye pinned on the leader and his musical score at all times the orchestra is playing. The musician "don't care" musician, who while playing his score, is fondly trying to catch the eye of some lady in the audience, and misses a passage or some line. The musician occurs more than once, a right-on-the job leader will eliminate these careless players from his orchestra. If the leader allow this carelessness to occur, the entire organization, musicians must learn to give good service on the job. The public and your employers demand it nowadays. The musician can cause the public sentiment is with your organization. They like your music. The employer knows that the public likes the music, and he will make sure that from time to time, that is if the orchestra gives service. Wrong Things Talking to one another, out of the line of duty, while on the stand, is one bad eve. Gossiping with patrons or taking friendly with the same hall patron, is another. As I have preached in this column from time to time, let me be a bit more careful when school is out. When your friends bother you while you are at work, politely tell them that they will have to see you after you finish school, or take a chance they will not become offended. Show Playing Most of the orchestra that play shows do not know what it's all about. They play a show they first thought about the fine points of music, never having record for the vocalist, Musicians, the stars especially, think that they most blast away while they most blast away when they out. They were never so wrong. The entire orchestra should play under the singer. Let the vocalist be against the under current of music. Another bad feature of most of the "star" musician is to get away from their audience and they are encouraged with unusual technique. They like to show off by making compecious variations. I know at this time many musicians will not hire on their theater jobs for this reason. They are so big-headed and have such an entitled idea about playing better offers than a competent able for them to stick to a score and play it as the arranger and composer intended. They think they can add better offers to their score and composer. It is imperative that a score of music for shows should be played the same for all performances. The way the performance that is sticking strictly to the score, is the way they should play the last one. The performances do not like a change in score or some atmosphere by injecting a lot of booth jazz figures and variations. Keep your eyes on your leader and your score, and in importance, in the world of music. Playing in Washington. A five-piece orchestra, made up mostly with students of Howard university, are at the present location in the Capitol city. They played there from last October to December. They were replaced by a white orchestra, which failed to maintain its hold on the job and have a lengthy contract to work out, carrying them into 1925. This Chinese cafe is one of the few places in the city and enters to the elite white trade. The services of this Race orchestra came them to be in demand, after their first contract was out. The public demanded that the boys be readers of this column and say they have injured the principals it sets forth into their little orchestra. The persuaded them to play at the Royal, sax; L. Taylor, band; C. Gary, drums and singer, and Fred L. Shade, pianist. A Visitor in Chi Alon Jackson, well known orchestra leader and musician, was a visitor in Chicago last week. He left for the East to John his orchestra last Friday, Mr. Jackson and his bunch recently closed an engagement at the Castle farm, chicamacombe in imminent imprisonment. They begin a contract in one of Detroit's de have ballrooms in a few weeks. Clarence Moore Clarence Moore is now a member of the Cafe de Paris orchestra, inviting children to play first child in a local theater orchestra. Mr. Moore is a well qualified musician. He is the assistant conductor of the orchestra. Wilbur Sweatman The writer was the recipient of a fine letter this work from Wilhelm Hirsch, a musician and the real originator of jazz music in this country. He is now boasting with his big musical career to be a jazz musician. The port is an "n" word. Mr. Stewartman also maintains a large booking office in one of Broadway's skyways, a large studio, a recording studio and co-studios. Musicians who can double stage, sing and dance would do well to get in touch with him. The writer is to Write 1547 Broadway, New York. Leroy Smith's Bunch Probably the finest all-around orchestra among our group in the country is the Leozy Latin orchestra, which has been performing for few years, this spring, worked its Roland Hayes B Minor Melodians : Grant Moore's Bunch Notes AT THE LINCOLN. Miller, foremost among the Hare's most successful producers. He has to his credit such an adage of 1927, that his big book, *The Players in Stage craftsmanship*, along with *The Hat Mama*, *Brown Skim Models*, *"Gray Hat Harlem,"* his latest efforts, and a lot of others, all of which are making wonderful success on their tour of the T. O. R. A. But wait, this isn't all he's just started. From a reliable source comes news about the production company along about April on another month-month production bearing the Miller stamp. This is to open on Broadway. To further this, so reports say, the company has given a name yet will be turned out by Macro Pinkard. As to the book, this is to be done by Mr. Miller. And neverless to say it will be as far as his interest is warranted. Referring to the east, this will be made up of the stars taken from other of the Miller productions, and the Gertrude Sanders of "Bad Bob Mumma" fame, Gale Dotteson, berry Colston, Abandon Tenderness, also of Abandon Tenderness, and all of Mumma fame; 1892 Miller, Andy Tisdale, George Kandell, Miss Eva Meteelf, Lily Uoen, Miss Ruth Johnson of "Trown Skin Models"; 1902 Miller, both Smith of "Tay Harlem"; the latest Miller production. And, too, it has been made known the popular producer from a Miller, will be cost. As to the chorus, Mr. Miller always prides himself on this. It will be the greatest collection of feminine beauty ever assembled with a travel cost. As to the chorus, Mr. Miller provides a most gorgeous and extravagant second production and costumes which will undoubtedly attract attention. And, too, many new features and novelties which and charm to the show's success will be utilized, in other words, the seashell composite of song, music, costumes, ornamental settings, privileges and unique entertainment, embodying an intimate and incomparable conglomeration of surprises, novelties Mr. Miller's visit to Nashville was in behalf of Miller and Shater's "Tide Breakers" company, which is a making a sure-suffolk note of the T. O. B. A. Mr. Smith has accepted the appointment as general representative of the company. Needless to say, he will all over, Michigan can travel to his case. What C. Jay Smith don't know about the show business can't be mentioned. And he has handled many of such. Marie Kitchen is taking hers at 1613 Hope St., Shreveport, La. "YOUR ENEMY. C. NOT HARM YOU. The Wrong Way Out subject leads one to believe that the hell from which the article is heading will be intensified and augmented. The teacher's role is to guide the teachers may be right. Old folks are sometimes right; and young folks often learn to their sorrow that when the old folks are right, they are most wavily right. The teacher must only a coward but an existist as well. Why should he pressure that the thing of which he is guilty will occupy the worldly attention? It may probably be baffling daily life at the metropolitan and then be the metropolitan 21 hours by those who read it Shakespeare's famous quotation should be paraphrased to read: "The good men do lives after them. The evil is oft intered with their hearts." They are accompanied with life's dark moments that show drawn followings the bucket night. Good luck and a full break are often just around the corner at the very moment we lose hope and give up. When matters are at a point to change the whole complexion of affairs. A famous psychologist once told his class to rejoice when they came to "plain walk," for when you can go no further, a change of some kind must take place. Life does not stand still. "If you can walk," as Klipling says, "and not be tired by waiting, you're bound to experience the extremity of the horus's tight end. There must be something radically wrong with the home, the educational institution and the funfelling of the church if not one of those girls and boys turned to one of those extremity of relief in their innable extremity. The candidate for suicide is not the only concern. For we are all more or less infected with the virus of cowardice. Perhaps some of the parents, the teachers of the advocates of Christianity from offering assistance to those disheartened girls and girls. We are often afraid to express our concern. We need to add to the truth for fear of giving offense or injuring our chances for advancement. Afraid to live within our income because of what our neighbors will say, we need to tolerate with some of our neighbors because of their color, taste, erased or nationality. It takes us courage to set independence of the ones we think of as thumbnails; to maintain the right question to doubt and to prove for one's self. A healthy body, a clean conscience, faith in God and a belief in the life here. These are the surest suicide probability. Which needs the censor—the politicize or the show? "Hint is the question of a great hubbubulation about the indecency of the stage, its civil indifference, its moral decency, etc., if the plays and players are not politically indulgent and the reformers make believe, there should be no audiences to support the virtuous plays and players. The audience of the people's theatrical desires and tastes, every person who attends a theatrical performance has the right of censorship. If the show is distracting, it should be closed to the box office, have their money refunded and leave the theater. If a sufficient number would do this, the objective shows would be quickly removed or withdrawn. It would seem that our educational institutions are turning out something else besides pliskin classes and courses included in the list of college and university products. Suicide is an acknowledgment of the most objective cowardice, no matter how much we hate it, and the sob writers may say to the country. To vurnish suicide with a shining coat of romantic sentimentality or other already extinguishing dramatizations, there are always some other whildevered cowards waiting for some such shush to give them the benefits or the consequences of their evil acts and indiscrepents. There will always be some aqua-diluted poison, and some more poison, that when they were kids and had been helpfully spanked for a misunderstanding, they used to enjoy the tearful remorse of the spanker. Give suicide a genuine application of the cleansing solution of truth and justice. The upremisonal sin: the culmination of the most abject cowardice. When America threw her hat in the air during the world war, and then drafted her to jump in and pull it out, a boy rushed up to me one day and breathlessly saluted: "Did you know they committed suicide last night?" "No, what for?" I asked. "Cause they drafted him an hour before." We looked at each other for a moment, unconsciously trying to grasp what had been Perey's viewpoint. Then the boy continued: "Want a be a fool?" If he had gone he could no more be killed, and now he's himself. "The war was the commentary in a nutshell. Suicide is just the same as jumping in front of a fast moving express train to get out of the way of a speeding auto. Dunkirk." Some may argue that such a method is grossly impractical, as there are current sexual assault laws that are sexual and the solutions. And what of its influence on the young people's minds, which the glamour reformers strive so zealously to protect? The culture because audiences aren't made that way. And since the other people are responsible for the discipline of the young people, it's up to the parents to demand that indecent performances. But, we regret to say, it seems that fond parents aren't made that way, either. And where is the "elegant audience"? The "dear" people who don't against indecent shows and place all the blame on playwrights, managers, producers and performers, they are the ones who admit the nature of the classes, who are asked to create indecenty. You couldn't keep those "dear" people away if you tried. But the audience shows the moment they reach the screen, and then come back for more. Of course we know that some performers, managers and producers are blime, but they are the exception, and they play and the producers want to produce them—but try and get a fall house! Many great actors with a large following can pull a large cast, but they are not able to time to be an exception. Then there is the sheer minority who would demand clean shows and who indulge in the show's clean, but they are powerless against the will, desires and tastes of the vast majority. These are the people who do walk out on an independent show, but they are powerless with their pride and appreciation of clean shows. If such people are seen at what some are pleased to call an unclean show it is because they want to see the show, and not to see the whole-house performance they pay for. Last season the burlesque managers had a house cleaning—and lost most of their tenants. The hot of their tenants, the detriment at the end of the season. Anyone with a small knowledge of feminine modesty and vanity ought to be easily convinced that our stance is in line with the state arranged in beautiful costumes than in only a spruced leaf to relieve her malady. A smutty joke does not require thought or intelligence, but only a foul mouth and affection. Why worry about presenting a legitimate drama or producing a clean, wholesome musical drama if the audience yawns, reads the advertisements on the back of the program, shows as tame and uninterested; but give the show a reputation for spice, muddy and the blizzard and the manager will have to call out the red crows from stumbling the box office. In these days, when presidents tongues and consort with other men/wives, when liquor is sold in legislative halls, and the bootlegger is selling something else is in the mood of consorting the stage. The magnificent spectacle, "Steve Lank" had its premiere Monday night before an audience of 12,000 persons. As early as 7:20 o'clock the audience, having been warned to appair early began to stream in the illuminated theater, the intrude of Bonnie Bell Drew's gonings was accomplished. This anguagement of talent to their will; they conquered them with the more spectacle of a scence set, and put them in their employ as shoer actors in a great spectacle. They White, Bonnie Bell and chorus followed by a bit of monsieur with Dusty Brown, White and George Cohen. The chorus offered a number, "Sweet Child," with dancing. Sam Russell, natural born comedian, and Fred Kravitz, that forced laughter from the old as well as the young. A high spot that brought forth a volume of applause was a sash drill by Bowman and In the writer's opinion this was the most beautiful offering ever seen on the Lincoln stage. Then neat, in a pinnatimony choreo, they wore choreo and choreo and choreo with their continued applause. Other bits and sketches of equal importance, but too numerous to mention made by the audience since the opening of this theater. Female members seen were: Bonnie R. Drew, Alice Hamilton, Rudy Hunter, Daisy Lindsey, Elinor Johnson, China Red and Theodore Thompson. The men were: "Dusty Brown" Frank Keith, Leroy White, Miss Russell and N. Hunt Howard. Miss Ruth Brown, company pianist, featured in the pit with the Lincoln orchestra. We wish to make special mention of the works of Miss Hamilton in the chorus, she loans big in this, the best group of choruses ever seen in Kansas City, on any stage, Race or white. From a box office standpoint, this is the best proposition on the MOTHER DIES Jimmy Howell, late of Jules McGart's famous Harlem Steppers and who is known in theatrical circles as the "Father of New York city on account of the death of his mother, Mrs. M. If the attire does not draw people to the theaters, then the managers don't get the money to pay the actors fat salaries. The manager has said, "Wendyville is gone" is very true and it will be dead until the arts get something new and novel to offer the public. The shows too will have to brush up on their skills, and the mansy, vulgar comedians, hard-dressed women and time-worn and used music scores. It is a treat when a good show comes to town, or a new one. It is the time. As a rule they do business if enough publicity is given them.
