Although he has passed the years to years, to yet, he is a vigilant, sensitive, and man of physical and emotional his junior. He is a man of great forest of character and executive ability—a close student of men and affairs, a friend and a touchable speaker. He has a fluent and facile spoken language, and it is worth once while to sit ten minutes in conversation with him. A tendered by the mayor and citizens of the town, he is a prominent of the order and dignity of the members of the craft. The welcome of the city and citizens, was delivered by the mayor of the city schools and chairman of the fifth congressional diarist of T. F. Kins, Rev. Ashkison, of Navascot and owed to the thwa. After which, the grand officers and delegates repaired to the lodge.

The Georgia republican state convention will meet March 7, at Atlanta.
CONGRESSMAN R. B. HAWLEY has just returned from Catah on a mission for the administration.
SEXATOR M. S. QUAY has been declared not entitled to his seat in the senate on appointment by the governor of Pennsylvania.
THE republican state executive committee has been called to meet at Waco, Texas, on the 20th inst. Geo. W. Coussain, signed the cease as secretary.
THE Blue Grosse Bingle of Frankfort, KY., is sending out this week the pictures of its directors. The directors look a blamed sight better than does the paper.
SIN KILLER, the Texas divine who has been fighting the duel so successfully in Missouri, has crossed the river and attacked his agents in the good news of the Freeman is advertising his meeting.
WITH this issue, we commence to publish the brilliant and instructive Washington Letter, furnished us by the late Dr. Robert Menard, who needs no introduction to DALLAS EXPRESS readers.
PATRICK HENRY is running a fancy grocery store in this city on Elm street, while George Washington is running a saloon, Jeff Davis is a laborer, who is a patriarch of the patriotic patriote residues in Dallas. Shades of the departed.
We have received Charles W. Chestnut's new book, "The Wife of his Youth." The book is made up in of the pages of ages, neatly bound in two substantial contents are: "The wife of his youth," "Her Virginia Mammy," the sheaf of children "A matter of principle," "The father of Graduation," "The new Wellington wives," the banquet, "The web of circumstances." The book is approved by Houghton, Mifflin & Co., have executed a very elegant piece of work, well worth a place in every library.
THERE are a small number of third rate white republicans in Texas, who refuse to consider the candidacy of any other Negro as genuine. What they think Mr. Negro will want anything for himself? This element make up a lot who should be left at home, and not allowed to come even into conversation, much less other party meetings. The man who cannot rise above color and recognize character, is not the republican party, not to a seat in the legislature.
---
We are employing regularly in our shops as printers, pressmen, etc., a dozen Negro men and women, beside our very nose who persist, in having them pendent scattered all over the country, and yet there are Negroes under our very nose who persist, in having them who would sooner go out of business than employ a Negro as a printer. Still these fellows favor Negro enterprise. There is a scripture which says: "The Negro who has seen whom he has not seen, and hates his brother whom he has seen, is a harmless and the truth is not in him,"$^{2}$ and the truth is above referred to are like unto him.
THE DALLAS EXPRES., however, deceases the S. W. C. Advocate to understand the preacher and two women fight. It is a public that delights to read the news.
WITH the new year, let us resolve to give the colored enterprises in the state and throughout the country betrayed by the black men who have finished school are out hunting work, from which they can make a living and maintain self-respect. This is only possible through the establishment of new businesses, enterprises, and the balance of the race coming up nobly to the support of these enterprises. The day man, popularized himself by supporting white industries and refusing to support his own. That is all changed now, and the Negro who refuses to support white industries and refusing to support his own, people find little arguments to his case. We have a few Negroes left who make it a rule to patronize them, and we have less in number and importance with each setting sun, and soon such a Negro will be only an unattractive and unappreciated curiosity in the company. We have a great inquiring inquire of their leaders as to their conduct along the lines of support to those enterprises which employ Negroes on their morit, and where curiosity cannot be given, let them apply the knife.
PROBABLY at no time since the great prohibition idai wave which swept the city, the work been done against the saloon work, then is now being done by Mrs. E. E. E. Torkarman, of Torkarman. She is now being called to call the Locy Thurman W. C. T. U. of Texas, and her steady good sense, undaunted enthusiasm and burning zeal, has served the land of sobriety and truth throughout the land. If the women and men who are nominally temperate, would be served support, with such a courageous leader as Mrs. Peterson at the reign of King Alcohol, for against the reign of King Alcohol.
The lily white Louisiana republicans who met at the St. Charles hotel in New Orleans, Saturday, and had such a wangle over the question of whether citizens to help them whip the democracy, showed themselves to be monkies in politics. The man or set of men, who have lived in the principles of the party, and who in the effort to make those principles obtain, refuse to be associated with men of character on account of their lack of civility. Such a senseless set do not deserve to defeat the democracy. There are some white men in this country, who are a disgrace to civilization.
AMONG the many letters of encouragement received from all sections of the country last week, one was from Mr. D. C. Wallace, of El Paso, Texas, who said a strong race in enterprise

Us dollars to doughnuts that Quail's will elicit few favorable replies.
AMONG the many Negro newspapers which are improving in appearance, none show more progress than does the New York City American Legend, Christian Recorder, South Western Christian Advocate and Boston Advance. Let the race come on our enterprises will live and prosper.

HON. B. R. BLUTT, of this city, is authority for the statement that a delegation of fifty (50) white and colored "Goose Neck" Chairman G. Bill McDonald Tuesday in the rain, to assure them that they were "wid 'em." Well, delegations and votes are two different things.
The republicans of this district should see to it that clean, conservative, regular republicans are elected as delegates to the national convention, and as delegates to the "cuselessness" of the past should be discountened by all self-respecting republicans.
SENATOR MORGAN's declaration that the democrat party is, always has been and always will be, a white man's party, is not calculated to encourage the establishment of New York and other states where the democratic party cannot win without the colored vote.
The fact that Chairman Gooby of the Seventh Congressional district has already called his convention to take place Fobry 10th, shows how soon the Democratic Party can organize in Texas, wilt hot.

To An Express Reporter On The Coming Republican Meeting. — Interesting.
"Old Observer," the hero of many a bloodless political battle, high private in the Grand Army of Compromise, the Army of the Confederacy, his promise to return, last night. As the reporters came filling in from the house, he winked, a winked winked face, enveloped in a circle of iron gray, comfortably encounseling the young man, like Peter Pindar, being a good and great story teller, never fails to bring about heaven's first law, when he was sent to the Waco meeting of the republican committee which meets January 20th,
"The republican state committee promises to be an interesting gathering. Since last meeting, Chairman E. K. Green has appointed George W. Johns to the committee. There would seem to be nothing new, but he remembered that the appointment follows Johnson's declaration that he would be for national committeeman, it does not mention the committee might defeat Johns, because he would be willing to compromise in politics is plain the same. Again, there is rumor gaining current, that Green is likely to play quats at events, the committee would have the power to preside at the coming state convention. Running by Green's record for like and creating members whom he sees him名 his successor. Another bone of confusion is the fact congressional chairmen to waive all preparation for the fight in their disarray. Congressional chairmen promise to see nothing good in this piece of usurpation, proposed to be visited upon only another name for "Gosee Goose"

Pixou Knocked Out
New York, Jan. 10—Terry McGovera last night wrested the featherweight championship of the world from the champion of nearly nine years. To save Dixon from a knockout, Tom O'Mourke, his manager, threw up the sponge in the glove of the goring helplessly, and weak, but as game as the dying gladiator. The fight took place before a crowned Club, and the victory decided the ownership of $10,000 purse. When Dix-Club was stopped on the scales yet another necessary 118 pounds Dixon seemed to be in the better condition. He was full of energy and had taken the raking of the game and had taken the prize, while McGovera seemed to be too finely drawn. When they stepped into the court, McGovera showed no traces of a rigid traction course and as soon as they stripped to the huff cach looked in perfect condi-
Dixon from the first tap of the gong was on the aggressive, using a left hand. Dixon was on the right. MetGovern cleverly stepped inside of it, and Terry sent both hands in rapid order to Dixon's lower works. McGoventry to Dixon, and Terry prized to Dixon, as no boxer who ever faced the negro was able to land on the wind, rips and kidnaps as did Dixon.
Dixon jerked Mcdonovan half a dozen times during the battle with hard cracks on the head or jaw, but Terry was in a jiffy, relentlessly smashing with either hand to the ribs or stomach. The seventh round was a disastrous one, with Dixon missing the ninth. Dixon's nose in this round after he had sent a right hand smash which handed over george's heart, and Dixon came up as game on a man did in the second round,投ffrontohwrtwfmdopnulphd spouting from his nasal organ. Dixon came up as game on a man did in the last. A few seconds before the round would have been completed Dixon stood up from his eight fall, but manager and backer. Tom Kearns came up as game on his for the negro to hold on to his title, threw up the sponge on his second of the call of time, which would have been a good judgment. O'Rourke showed good judgment. Both he and Dixon have often said that the latter would never be knocked.
When O'Rourke rushed up the sponge Dixon was practically helpless. While McGovern was hailed with vociferous praise, he was not cheered again as the new champion, Dixon, the ex-champion, was not forgotten. Round after round of play, McGovern defended the title so cleverly for nearly nine years, as he left the ring, bleeding and beaten, a serer having probably fought his last contest. Exactly how he did and had very little to say except that McGovern was the best man he had ever met and that Terry could have beaten him. How could any that bikers ever defeated.

But there is still more to our great Guest than in the insurance profession. In time from the standpoint of the kindly visit from a brother when we lie on a sick bed, and the help given to our families when we are sick, we have learned to care for ourselves. "One sick is easily broken, but a bundle of bones is inviolable.

Whereas, it has pleased Almighty God, to take from our mind the Lord's Mason, on Friday, December 28th, 1890, that only bow in humble submission to the Lord, and men say: "Thy will be done." In speaking of Sister Mason, we can avoid of self conceit, and lived for her Christian faith and the lodge a good member. Her Christian career and experience unto death. Her integrity was most in paying tribute to her, we can see her as a man of virtue as soul as ever put in a human body. The consolation she left behind was Jesus hers."
TO THE FAMILY.
There's no flock however watched and bended. The lamb is there:
There's no fireside, however defended,
Bushie your vacant chair
Hark the solemn bell mournfully pealing,
What do it lay walling tell, on the ear peeling.
Seem they not this to say, loved ones have passed away.
Ashen with ashes lay, list to its place.
Midst scenes of confusion and crea-

to find the soul to soul is commun-

To find at the banquet of mercy

And feel in the presence of Jesus at home. His real home's realms of light; Dwell rattyed saints above, the holy; Happy in Emanuel's love. Be it further. Resolved that the church has lost a faithful Christian, the lodge a fraternal member, the community a quaint place, the child a loving daughter, the child a loving mother, the child a loving father and the husband a true and dear friend.

An Immediate Funeral Benefit
Another of the grand features of this Order is,
provision for the time when benefits are most
needed; $25.00 of each $50.00 of the certificate
paid immediately on death of a member,
killed in the war.
Tug Order Protected.
One of the "troubles" of other Mutual Benefit Associations has passed; these, therefore, as the Ordinaries older, the living members are compelled to pay too much. The dying members should pay too much. The BENEFIT ASSOCIATION protects itself where members die before they pay the cost of their protection, by relying on
8500 for less than 827
81999 for less than 896
The balance of the above amount remaining unpaid at death, will be deducted from the certificate.
Maturity Fund, and How Invested.
The amounts deducted from the certificates of those who die before their expectancy are placed in a fund called the Deposit Fund; which is used for the payment of matured certificates. It is also used for the payment of death losses, should occasion furnish, the necessary funds to hold the certificates, holders, and guarantees the full payment of every death benefit. SAFELY INVESTED. This fund accumulates, it is loaned upon Government and State Bonds, and guarantees the full payment of every accumulations are placed in the Benefit Fund. When other Orders call two to seven assessment certificates, their lapses prove it is not forthcoming. A Maturity or Reserve Fund may be created.
Cash Value:
Our certificates have a cash value, while in other cases, the certificates are not but current protection. Our certificates have their own insurance, live or die, and thus they increase your cash value. We also increase your cash month, making the certificate the nearest paid up and thus more valuable, which is much more and cheaper than in other Orders. **WARNING**
Because, only your own insurance to pay for, while in other Orders you pay for yourself and your deceased neighbor, and of course it takes more money to pay two men's insurance than one.
Territory.
The Order is national in its character, but bodies not will be established in university directories, nor will they be awarded for their service. For The Best Men. You don't have to pay till you die or die to win. Men you have earned equal to the best. Men and women admitted between 18 and 55 years of age must pay $100. Accident identity of 85 to 180 per week. Loss of one year up at expectancy and half paid to members at age 70: balance at death. Immediate funeral benefit of 85% to 80%. State bond. Government and state bond. Bonded bonds in guarantee companies.

In 1839, just before the fall of the United States, the Negro was a colored man at Chestville, giving his note in return. The great contest between the two, a barrier, Col. Epperson found himself unable to pay for the Negro he had purchased, and the matter was in the hands of the slaves and slaves were freed. Then the former slave died and Col. Epperson's note was sought to be cited in the ensuing trial. The Negro, leaving a considerable estate, has finally paid the debt and more litigation has arisen. Finally, the Epperson heirs agreed what the Negro had sold for. The offer was accepted and the transfer occurred and was paid by Mr. Joseph M. D. McCormick to W. J. McDonald of Paris, bank a banker for the Northern district of the Negro to Col. Epperson, Mr. Dickson represented the Epperson heirs and Mr. McCormick represented the plaintiffs.-Sunday
