Fort Worth, Texas, Jan. 6. -Solution of the problem that faced Federated officials when a coffin filled with whiskey was opened here several weeks ago was announced today. It was announced also that charge for a Negro embalmer, a Negro understaker and a Negro physician of Monroe, was been filed at Waco against the Louisianaans and a Negro understaker at Waco. The coffin that was covered by the corpse of Lula Crawford and supposedly was accompanied by a Waco understaker was not found to be found when members of the Fort Worth Police Department took charge of the white man sent from Monroe, La., Dec. 5. Department of Justice from the case said that the investigation revealed that a shipment had been made a month earlier and was not discovered. When the investigation of the subterfuge came to light the整形 agent at Dallas became the weight of the "corpse" when the coffin was transferred there and he was charged with the crime. Small investors, he said, have been persuaded to exchange their Liberty Bonds for worthless stocks. In one

New Orleans, La. Jan. 3.—Press dispatches from Screw report that a new order on the Texans & Dell following Negro passengers to eat in the dining cars after whites had been served, created a mild晨晨 among railroads terminating here. His friends acknowledged that they would be imposed upon them by the mob and its lack of regard for justice and that they would be powerless to prosecute him and possibly the institution, if he remained there. He espired the spirit of sacrifice of self, and the spirit of great work of his father, young Washington, his way to a distant point and entrained for St. Louis, where he now is with his little family of wife
Thus the criminal-minded minority in Alabama again blots the fair in the justice-loving people there, he apologe for the incomparable work of the father of young Booker Washington, who proved himself a constructive educator and placed Tuskegee in the vocabulary of the world as well as proved himself a constructive educator. A correspondent interviewed young Booker Washington, and finds him the victim of race hate in the South. He is a very competent young man and has the reputation of carrying out anything which he undertakes.

MISS MINNEA MAI SMITH—DIRECTRESS OF DOMESTIC ARCHIVE CALIFORNIES IN THE UNIVERSITY OF CHICAGO TEACHES IN TUSKEGEE SUMMER SCHOOL. COMMERCIAL CENTER OF THE CICHLID COLLEGE OF CHICAGO.
By N. W. Harlee.
The introduction of domestic art in the public schools of this city was an inversion as well as an impulse in the schools of the country, brings new life and new blood to the girls in the schools of the country, brings comprehends that which awaits them in their relation with the home, with society and the common community, and comprehends that which awaits persons have thought that these essentials should be taught in the schools of the state for its own protection, also thinks so, and gives the home or rather permits the home to do so, and in order that the child shall be taught to use the high duty of the state for its own protection, seminals. In fact, in many instances, those in the homes are not prepared to instruct their children in this art, and the effect and the skill that the child should have — a start in the development of our girls is of the very highest importance. The home is the highest of the life, of out of it comes the greatest variety of the faculty of the college and the basis of all powerful government of the state. The home is the unit of the Nation, not the government, not the army, not the navy but the home.
But queen Victoria, England's great sovereign did not wait for the French to intervene, and heirs with crowned heads, and with jewelled hands, destined to rule the mighty empire and dominance of France, and the necessity and the desire of a queen mother, were trained in the domestic art of baking, and they place it for baking hands with scissors of heat and measure the time for baking. Why should a sovereign be trained in baking, and require by her mother to do these most common place and yet the most essential affairs? What was neither this all, for the jewelled fingers, bearing the sparkling jewels of the scissors, to twirl the fluters to adjust the thumb, to be prepaired for the manipulate the serving modelling.

Jewelled hands in a bread tray, kneeling and mixing according to chemical analysis. Roya fingers with a sword, and examples of sora. Why was this卫刃? It must have been for some extraordinary purpose, and examples than the need to breed England's imperial threue. What religion was it? These were the daughteens, to be a mother as well as a queen, and to be a mother in more than being a mother as well as a queen on a throne, or a mother without a throne, or a dominion, in the queen of all queens, for she is the highest and best gift to earth.
Did England's great queen forewrote the world's supremacy for human freedom in all times? Was it possible that she imagined that her daughters with money would be required to earn money and to make a living through this course of training? No, a daughter can tell the inexperienced and final mishap of man? Shadows do not lie, fortune reverse themselves and cast their trembling forms with licelessness before us unexpectedly in England's imperial threue.
Kepler said that "Great God," I see to think Thy thoughts, so it seems to me that Thy thoughts are the preceptress of the Domestic Art department of the Negro High School in Chicago. I prepare this book of thoughts of queen Portraits of women in preparation for she has taken the time to prepare herself by studying during the vacation in different colleges. She studies diligently to the subjects pertaining to the art that the siris of the race diligently to the subjects pertaining to the art that the siris of the race diligently to the subjects pertaining to the step of research work in the domestic art, and that she might be a theoretical and practical viewpoint. While teaching in the public schools she might be a theoretical and practical viewpoint in the University of Chicago and while in this institution applied to the course in the University of Chicago and while in this institution applied to the required test. Miss Smith has been a diligent student and painter from home, but has applied her self in the summer normals of this school and facilities wherever she tended, when she was not attending some summer school in the east of Chicago.

the next morning, which was Dec. 28, 1918, where Bro. Swa, of Tynn, Ga., presided over the church so I was in the Hawkins Baptist church over which Rev. Williams was acting as pastor, but resigned the position. I may as well tell you that I was in Hawkins on the invitation of Rev. Williams, president of the Mineola Baptist Board of the East Texas Association of the Association, a pastoring presacher, a college trustee, a prosperous land owner and an all round leader of having ideas of having only brick buildings on the Campus of East Texas Academy of theology outlay of some $50,000. This is some change, but Francis is some
But back to Hawkins! Hawkins lays no claim to being a city, not a town, but a place in the road, but it is surrounded by a colony of wealthy farmed cattle, unbelievable by the average man, who has spent his whole life time living in town out of a paper mouth—to be more exact as a minister would say. "living on the land," there's Parson S. H. Hawkins owns 400 acres of land and a grocery store there's Claude Watson, who owns a fortune in land like a clinker factory and has a bank account covering $60 acres of land operated a grocery store with his son carry-ons, owns 164 acres, and King Godown owns half a hundred. Now here the rest as near as I could get them. Price, 300; Jobe Bros. Tos, 200; R. Kelly, 20; T. Davis, 250; B. H. Hall, 100; J. A. Brown, 120; J. Cullarra, 100; William Hall, 101; White Willie, 100; J. A. Brown, 120; Garfell Johnson, 100; T. J. Jackson, 120; Jesse Hawkins, 100; Colonel Johnson, 100; Colonel Johnson, 151. There are others, but I counted an acreage owned by the men of color amount-
The Board—The Board meeting under the direction of Rev. Fran W. Lillian Hall, the president and unrepairs weather, the amount raised was $10.26. In Sunday school Miss Lillian Hall's class raised $23.24. In the school library she raised $24.24. Prof. Price was superintendent. Rev. Ski Stephens, Dr. Paul preaching and I made my war talk. The next meeting goes to Edgewood. The time is the Friday before the school day and the date in mind. Rev. Williams who resigned the church while we were preaching and I made my war talk to a fine people. The Methodist preacher gave the Baptists much assistance and I was glad to see it. This time we build a race. These who help Among those who came to me and covered those subscriptions to the church builds a race. These who help Brown, J. M. Cullars, Willie White, Goo. Richards, Hillard Johnson, A. M. Brown, J. M. Cullars, Willie White, Prince. I did not have to run them down as a dog does a rabbit. They are intelligent. No argument is necessary. We have sense to take a new newspaper.
Was my next stop, I arrived there somewhere around 2:50 o'clock Monday morning, and a pretty good show was going on. I walked mile to count the cross line on the Dickson Colored Orphanage, but I made it in company with a soldier.

Gilmer, Text 4.
Bye and bye the morning came and after a hearty breakfast, Rev. W. L. Dickson the founder and supporter took me over the grounds.
What I saw—The Beginning.
To commence at the start and to start at the commencement—the Orphane is about a mile from the heart of the business district. It occupies a commanding portion of the sun. It was founded by Rev. W. L. Dickson, the present superintendent. It was organized and chartered July 15, 1829. The first board of trustees was composed of eight Colored and four white members. Its first president, serving four years, He was succeeded by Rev. Dr. James Dickson, the first pastor New Hope Baptist church. After a service of four years he met with Rev. L. Dickson, succeeded him and now pastor New Hope Baptist church. It might be interesting to know that the 1904 encampment used as an orphanage was once the Upshur County Farm. It might be interesting to know that the 1904 encampment used as an orphanage was once the Upshur County Convict Farm, and was moved from the county to the Dickson Convict converted into a house for dependent children. He was at that time pastor of Gilgal.
All of the buildings which were all built on site and which had been used for construction down March 17, 1901, and the same confinement destroyed 250 children. The building was delicately six children were received and Miss Mamie C. Jones of a cook and her charges—eight sons in all is still standing, and two in all well filled barn and cattle and hog well fed and sleek. Every well filled barn and cattle and hog Dickson told me that each child was two or more suits of clothes. Beside two, Domestic Art and Science and Agriculture, a high school course was offered. This is the curriculum. I noticed something else not on the curriculum: a demand for absolute obedience. I saw more well behaved children at the entrance and I cheerfully recounted this rules for Colored homes. We would have better children. A white man would have better children. Children come up town, we know them on account of their intelligence
Beside the educational advantage the Orphanage, with your ceramic pots, will provide deserving children. This year scholarships were given by all college students. The College of Arts and Marshall, Texas, and by Arkansas (Little, Texas) and Baptist College, and Fry and Fry College.
Nearly 4,000 Children.
the institution opened 3598 children have enrolled. Ninety-two girls and seventen boys have reached grade 12. The boys are in France and nineteen in different army camps, while twenty-two boys have been engaged in war. The girls are in the medicine at Bartlett, Texas, was at one time an orphan here. Miss Martha Moxley is an accomplished teacher. Jackson is teaching in Arkansas.
Faculty.
The present faculty is composed as follows:
Vea, Veals, Principal, graduate of Prairie View, Dallas, Texas;
Miss Alvernon V. King, Music and Primary teacher, Dallas, graduate of Prairie View, Dallas, Texas;
Alabama, teacher of Domestic Science and Art and Agriculture,
Alabama, teacher of University; Mrs. Sarah Purch, Tyler, graduate E. T. Academy, Tyler, bat matron,
Mr. R. Washington of Fort Worth Normal Graduate Bishop College has charge of girls and stewardess.
Celestus Wilson, truck gardener and farmer, San Antonio, Mr. C. Wilson.
The good influence of the orphanage has made a county convict farm unnecessary. Uspahn County has grown from something used something like $300,000 worth of cotton, 3000 bushels of sweet potatoes, a house full of peanuts, and products and fruits in proportion.
Vickery, Dickson has worked a miracle, I am writing these lines for the purpose of making them generally, to the end that they may the better understand in what a place they help Dickson and his orphans.
In Dallas.
A great meeting of mighty men had been called by Mike Marathon Roders to protest against the service of the railroad. He had hands of the railroads of Texas. I hurried to the station, where he had the picture of Sitting in the Grand Pyramid Temple Building and hearing men wiser than I so over the story of our wrongs and wrongdoing. Men were there from every walk of life—the preacher laid down the law, the teacher left his class, the doctor, his patient, the lawyer his man and mechanic and all the confession to get a decent ride on a Texas railroad train (a train) a decent seat in a train and get a decent ride on a approached the stallen. Finally a protest and petition were formulated in the national Railroad Administration which

Ft. Worth.
This week I spent two days in the office running his bank and Bill Sunday running the devil. They are both in the office printing and Dodson and his Hornet. They do well. I met Rev. Spencer, Spencer and Rev. Prince. I will go to rep in Rev. Spencer's church (Morning and Rev. Prince). I will go to rep in Still corked, but Bill Silly and the local ministry have hope. I believe their hopes are well found.

Steed on a Dime.
A Jew boy and a Colored boy were fighting and the Colored boy was the Jew war-time style. The father of the Jew boy seeing his son offering no return for the blows received, said: "If you don't wipe up into 'm and wip 'm? Vhight son, vhight." The father, I can not move," said the boy. "And vy can't you move?" protected the father, said: "Pather I can't move, because I'm standing on a dime." Has the fall of the hard to do with the break of day?
You can drive a horse to water, but can not make him drink. You may drive a man to drink but not to water.
If some men would go hunting with their automobile instead of their gun, they would be more certain to kill something. The automobile hits where the gun falls.
A glass of vinegar with a nut in it is an automobile cocktail.
There's no record of how many men were killed in the army by the cooks.
Judging by the way they achieved there must have been many cool styles.
Where He Belonged.
"A great business success must be patriarchy for its keystone," said Steel Corporation. "We don't need never develop. There's no hope for the business of Grocer Boggs. He can doin' down the cellar so long" snarled Grocer Boggs at his new boy. "I am sure the quarto measures, sir, the boy answered lightly. 'It was so clogged up.' It was so messy.' 'Say, you're fired,' growled the grocer. 'You go home and tell yell father to educate ye for the minis.'
Getting Back.
It happened at a certain famous American college. An old Negro student, who was a gentleman walked up and said: "Well, old uncle, so will winter be as blissful, and those trees will be as blissful. Quickly the old Negro replied: "And spring will soon be here and you are." Cassell's Saturday Journal.

Jonah was cast overboard because he was supposed to bring bad luck; and the whale thought so, too.
The most complacently made argument on the most logistical foundations.
Desk work is probably as irksome as housework, but no man can hire someone to do it for him.
What most men want government to do for them is to make their money go farther and not much else.
No matter how many empty store rooms there may be in a certain loocher, a new grocery store may not pay.

GREW FROM ROMAN COLONY
City and Fortress of Cologne. Has
Figured prominently in the
Pages of History.
A fortress of the first rank, and a place of trade and manufacture, Colonia is one of the most important cities of Cilicia, and, as the center of a set of commercial centers on the left bank of the Rhine, these 45 miles north-northwest of Cilicia, and as the center of a commercial municipality with the chief cities of Europe; whilst along the broad waters of the Rhine its ships may go to the Mediterranean. Julius Caesar was leading his legion over Gaul in the first century before the Christian era. Colonia was the capital of the Roman province of the Romans as the Oppidum Dubium. Here, in A.D. 50, a Roman colony was planted by the Emperor Tiberius Caesar, and the plan, and given the name of Colonia Agrippina. It rapidly rose to be a place of importance, and, under the emperor Augustus, the city was named Italicum. Then came the decline of the empire, and with it the outlying Roman city began to feel more and more powerful, as boats, as they moved steadily westward. The city was taken by the Frankies in 300, but they did not perish until the century, when, in 475, it became the residence of the Frankish king, Childeric.
NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT
George Really Couldn't Get Interested
Over Probable Loss of Another
Person's Boat.
They were tasting about on the wild
and restless fish in a small open boat,
at least a hundred feet from the
beach. He was struggling manfully
and at least a hundred feet to
pull for the shore; she was sitting
in a heap in the stern of the fruit
bark, holding on like grim death and
mentally vowing that she would never
be pulled in the strap. She daringly
spirit to venture so far from land.
"I know we shall go over," she
told the boat gave another
tunnel. "Oh, George, try and manage it."
"I will" replied he firmly. "I could
get along spendly." If the waves
didn't make it go all ways at once,
"We're getting wet. We're getting
aerent, we aren't."
"A little. Oh, George, what shall
we do if the boat is lost?"
"Dry worry you about that,
my eyes are so tight, you shouldn't
you must upset yourself about
other people's business. It isn't our
boat."
He continued to fight with the creature, remembrances—Keloboth Sunday Herald.
Prince of Writers of War.
In discoveries there is more value of Joan of Arc than of war correspondents, who was a native of the Frost. Troisaint came into all the spinner of the medieval life of Val of Hercules, flights and soldiers, priests, artisans and merchants, and the churches and homes rich with stained glass and festivals, museums, nummeries and moralities every year. Instigated by his sageman, he set himself to create a battle more vividly could describe a battle more vividly than any of his contemporaries. He wanted to know everything: liked to see the battle, saw the sides and many points of view, and wanted the details of every little cavalry skirmish, every capture of a castle, every battle, and every journal, a good bookist, he forgot nothing. "I had," he says, "trauma to God. sense, memory, good remembrance, things, and an intellect clear and been upon the facts which I could learn."
Truth About the Desert.
The French, who have been the greatest explorers of the desert, have corrected many false ideas about the desert. One of the most persistent of these errors has been the notion that the desert is a vast area of sand. The French have been wrong about the desert only about a fifth of the Sahara is covered with sand. The greatest desert in the world is the Sahara, in the United States and Alaska together. The sand areas in the desert are somewhat larger than Asia; and the rocky tablelands in the desert are smaller than the United States. In other words, the Sahara is made up of about 700,000 square miles of rock. It covers 2,000,000 square miles of rock.
Lawmaking Bodies
Any legislative or tax-making body may be called a congress or parliament but different counties have dA. congresses, and different counties assemble, with two houses called senate and chamber of deputies. Belgium has senate and chamber of representatives. Spain has a cortex, with senate and chamber of representatives. Mark has a marking with upper house called landfill and lower house folklore. In a parliament with senate and censors di deputat, or chamber of deputies, the senate chamber and second chamber, all the South American republics, being modeled on the government of the United States, have a congress composed of houses, senate and chamber of deputies.

Which is a story of life in the colorful Chinese quarters of a Western city, was produced by Thomas H. Ince. It shows the work of the police in the district, the bravery of the blue coats in facing great danger, and the cunning and stealth of the Orientals and white men of the underworld who live by their wits and misfortune of others. Although melo-dramatic, the story is told with fine restraint, and its never mawkished or overdone. Two of the principal characters are Patrolman Terrace Shannon, a good looking young policeman of the better type and Patsy O'Connoll, a brave Irish girl, who is in charge of the Chinese Rescue Home. These two characters are well played by Thurston Hall and Rosemary Theby. Both players are well known for their excellent work in other pictures, and their acting in the "Midnight Patrol" will be shown.
