AMERICAN INDLIANS PAY DEBT
TO NEGRO MISSIONARY
A debt contracted by the Wyndot Indians of Ohio 100 years ago has just been paid with interest by the St. Regis Indians of Northern Kentucky. The creditor was a Negro. He died in 1821 in the Wyndot settlement in Upper Sandusky, with the debt, the debtor or the creditor. The St. Regis Indians had no connection. Nevertheless, when approximately 4,000,000 of the one hundredth university of the Negro's first visit to the Wyndot, he received 900,000 for reconstruction, at the beginning of this year, the St. Regis tribe doubled the amount asked for the Negro's assistance. The Negro creditor the Wyndot was John Stewart. Stewart was a hattan county, Virginia, in 1784. At 35, he was leading a dissolute life and converted to a Methodist Episcopal conversion, and heard a call to carry Christianity to the Indiana. His first visit was to the Methodist Episcopal church, and heard the missionary work of the Methodist Episcopal church in the United States. The St. Regis Indians are partici- pate of that celebration through the St. Regis church in Hogansburg, N. Beginning January 1, 1919, the St. Regis mission was asked to provide $2,500 for a missionary trip to the church through 1917, the mission had never before been asked to do anything for self-support. Twenty-seven Indians of the membership of 70 have pledged them to the church, and come to the church, in pursuance of the Biblical titling plan. Subject of Work for Soldiers A Vexing Problem.
(Associated Negro Press)
Chicago, Ill., March 20—The subject of work for returned soldiers is one that is giving great concern to the conservative thinking people in every section of the country. Some way is trying to be found to understand the monstrations of welcome that are being displayed everywhere, and will be more so as the white soldiers of the United States. Members of the Eighth Illinois, and the Fifteenth New York, have, and the Fifteenth New York, have, by their former employers, but in a far larger number of cases, the men have been almost reduced to begging. The active Department, has taken a very active interest in finding places. The United States will call a special session of Congress, so that appropriations might be made, the Federal Free State country will be compelled to close doors by the first of April, and thousands of grafting employees in the mercy of grafting employment offices who are charging fabulous prices for employment openings, and then are forced to leave.
Sergeant Henry Johnson Addresses New York Legislature
(Associated Negro Press)
Albany, N. Y., March 20—Sergeant Henry Johnson, of the old 15th New York Regiment, who killed four Germans and put twenty-one others to fight, has been the biggest man in Albany during the last fortnight. "Everywhere he goes crowd the streets, and most unassuming hero ever seen in this city," he told the record for having made the shortest, and yet one of the most forcible, address on record. He was before the legislature of New York and was the first to bill to grant veterans of the World War the same civil service recognition. "I do not know rightly just what to say to you gentlemen. You know there are and did our bit. Only a few of us are what are you going to for us." This address got more applause than all of the other speakers combined.
CARE OF NEGRO WORKMEN.
The exodus of Negroes from the South has directed more than ordinary attention to the relations existent among them and their employers. It has been learned certain individual employers and corporations from this abnormal movement. Except in cases where the Negroes were driven out by other influences, the Negroes have been at work, where employers have been reasonably kind and at all consideration of investigation in the South at large. I discovered an encouraging number of such employees. A few of them were employed in a spacious example in the case of the Aluminum Company of America, whose headquarters are in Pittsburg,
At their plants, the community is divided into two general sections, one for whites and one for blacks, and any apparent advantage over the other in location. Both are provided with similar sanitary accommodations, and the black community is abundant for all. The houses of the Negro section are just as good as those in the white section, and in the black section, the capital is used in common by both races. The theatre serves the white people, a spacious Community equipment room, and the amusement center for the Colored portion of the town. Each section has its own churches and school.

REGENERATION AS WELL AS RE CONSTRUCTION GOING ON IN SOUTH
(Associated Negro Press)
Birmingham, Ala., March 20—Regeneration, as well as reconstruction is going on in the south. "Never have south been put into such a test of humanity," she said, as it is now passing through.
In the first place, the South is very much in need of laborers, especially on the effects of the large migration of Negroes with it the thousands of Negroes who were taken by the selective service to the army. A campaign of purityality urging Negroes to return to their former Southern homes, is to speak. A large number of the Northern communities are up in arms, and are protesting the Colored people to return, just as the south protested against Northern Negroes offering the men higher wages to come up in the "real land of the
The white daily papers of the South are constantly having extended and long sentences in concerning conditions, and long sentences in concerning the seriousness of the situation. There are many problems encountered by Negro boys who is bothersome enough. The feeling is everywhere prevalent among the white people that Negro boys who are bothersome enough have a real taste of social justice, will not return to their native homes, where for decades they have been living, and endure the former things; and it is

The political situation is one of the most ticklish, for even the daily newspapers admit that it is rankest hypocrisy to allow men to do for a country, fighting for the cause of democracy, and yet in their natives the land are unable to vote. The Democratic party in all sections of South is badly split, and the Republicans, under the leadership of National chairman Will H. Chairman Hayes has recently made the largest gathering being in Greenwich Village, where he made reference to the Negro, but stated that the south needs the Republican party, and that the
The entire country is much alarmed over the spread of the astounding number of immigrants it might have on the Negroes of the country if they should become susceptible to the attacks of the leaders. Leaders are being called upon everywhere to consellect conservatism among the people, and the news of the horrible crimes committed so softly. These things in a large sense are being done, and yet that is not enough to justify justice at this time is not abating.

N. W. Hathee, the oldest Negro teacher in Dallas, gave the ceremony his gift. Never in Dallas have the singing voices of Negroes been better demonstrated at the museum year after year. Negroes and white people alike greeted the singing仰韶舞, a traditional solo part, naming a number of Negro folk songs and spirituals, Mrs. I. C. Johnson, the Negro schools of the city, led the performance for thirty songs. For thirty minutes before the meeting opened the Rev. W. L. N. W. Harles introduced the Rev. Dixon as "the man who in lieu of other man in Texas," The Rev. Dixon outlined briefly the object of his mission, "to help the children during the nineteen years since its beginning it has handled more than 100,000 Negro children under the supervision of the best white people, and in the homes of the Negro children and in the homes, is the method followed after the Negro children reach adulthood. In closing he urged the Negroes not to be sent to places he declared that present conditions which are found in many places. He declared that present conditions beginning toward improving living conditions among the Negroes of Dallas.
Dr. Arthur Jackson, Waco spoke next that a new day is in the dawning for him. He said that more than anything else, demonstrated that he is really an American citizen, some of the chief points of his argument were the statemanship had hampered the progress of the Negro race by assuring that what the Negro wanted was to be free. He said that all the Negro wanted was a chance to help himself. A man who grew into the war was especially urged. He also discussed the recent injunction which the Waco Negro Movement has put into a protective committee when they were refused a vote in the primary election thoroughly, especially when he

It is indeed a business which was primarily for the benefit of Dickson's Orphanage. In my opinion, than that of caring for the little ones and I believe it is the will of the children, and I believe it is the will of this to the little of our ability. There is no greater work, and there is no better sign that the members of the community tufties than this assembly for Colored orphans. We heartily every word which Professor Jackson has said. Another thing, I am being misunderstood and the work I am understanding to do is being hampered and frustrated by the work of the leading man, or rather the one whom I think has influence, in the town, and that I want to be entertained, and that I want to get the idea that I am coming to a guest house in town—that I am a professional wind-jammer, with a professional axe to grind, hidden in the town, not out of the way, that I can have a crew to which to spout, and that I want to be the town off pretty, he writes me, giving me a new date, when all of this can be worked out, and that I want to show off or grind my axe. Don't Laugh.
I am selling raffle tickets for a blind woman.
I would know what to do with
A man down town was hit with a
coward egg?
What is a coward egg?
It is an egg which runs after it
hits you in the back.
A cow should always be milked on
the outside.
I do not object to you making

Didn't you say yesterday that you had a thousand dollars at your back? Ten, but didn't see me leaning on the national bank's table to tell you. Women live longer than men, because they have no one to take them to death.

She turned herself about strong men and crushed them heart, soul and body. Hero's Court ablaze with splendors--Jerusalem as it looked 40 B.
