New York, May 28.—Madam G. J. Walker, business woman and philanthropist, regarded as the richest woman of the race, died early Sunday morning at her beautiful home, Irving on-the-Hudson.

Chicago May 29—The Chicago community has surged up aitable "born-to-married" gratitude efforts to "turnish marriages" into a grateful efforts to "turnish marriages" Negro labor to Southern communities. The small laboracy of plans, backed by the northern white men and the South, to get the black laborers South. As a matter of cold fact, there is a North, but the race men are exercising careful judgment in the decision to provide a small percentage care in the least to return to the South. Many of them going North and West, but few South. In addition to this, as fast as they can get passports and another, they can bring their native lands abroad. So great has been demand, for one reason and another, that requests to pass a law placing restrictions on emigration. Race man a most important factor in the economic situation. There is every reason to believe that in the long run, he will demand for industrial workers the most work that word back that they do not wish the "Southern Negroes with Northern ideas and the few more have to "look them over" have returned to their homes with the opinion that they are the most important the manner of the people who once were kept from knowing that "a man's a man for a that."

arranged for Friday, and was one of the largest ever held in the city. Numbers of the representatives of Madam Walker's firm from various countries have been sent to do her homage. Telegrams of condolence have been received from distinguished persons all over this country and many other parts of the world. The funeral are in the hands of the deceased, the attorney, F. B. Ranson of Indiana.
In their enormous plans, the Methodist of two churches have created a new work of the Race in evangelization, and to provide for entertainment at the Elevated Street M. E. Church, a chairman of this committee. There are many churches among our people in this city, all the leading Methodist workers of both Lakes and both churches from the surrounding area at this gathering. It will be an event to be attended by more than a plan concatenated with interest in the church militant and the church trumpeter in promoting the progress of the race and handled without fear or favor.

There Is Nothing Better Nor Nothing Just As Good.
The—warning has been sounded not by doctors alone, but coming from the pulpit as well. The American women are not destroying their beauty with hot combs. Bear in mind that every reputable doctor will tell you, that you cannot keep hair on your head and continue the use of hot combs. The hot combs not only destroy the natural oil which nature produces, but they also damage the skin. It has been said that it had its effect upon the mental power. In order that you may keep the scalp and hair in a healthful condition, you must not disturb nature and that is exactly what you do every time you apply the hot combs. We point you a way in order that you may have straight long luxurious hair without injury to your health and hair. If you don't know this, it is time to learn how to apply hot combs. Go to church Sunday. If you do not believe in it, that is not necessarily significant. Remember, there are many churches where you will do what you think that the church is worth while.
Quit abusing the white man at his back for making you wait in his store. Remember, there are many churches where you will do what you think that the church is worth while.
Once out start your own store and you will not need to have a new experience of commercial neglect.
Please stop going to the depot in crowds to meet the trains. There are many churches where you will not need. Then again, you are not wanted there. Learn to stay away from places you do not want. Very often you are spoken to roughly for just standing in the way. Have sense.

The story goes that certain literature is being issued by Colored Americans. It is alleged that because of this fact, the Government is looking into the literature and is not interested in the publication of the same supposed. Tuskegee, Ala., May 22—The thirty-eight annual exercise on the Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute which started Sunday, May 10, 1915, and ended dress by Dr. George H. Donny, president of the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, Ala., concluded today that 124 students were awarded to 124 candidates
Unique Numbers
Probably the most unique number on the program was the contrasting methods, building and appearance of students and teachers. Suite B views on School Methods and Arrangements*, made it clear to the students that the longer endure a result of reconstruction. C. Pope, whose subject was "Improvement of Social Conditions in the Community," told clearly of the improvements, such as saving of wounded and sick children, the work among wounded and sick children, the sacrifice of the fluence of the church has been the chief factor in bringing about these improvements. A. W. Thompson, whose subject was the Electrical Industries and communities and improving conditions of the valedictory address to Dr. McKenna and the class was very enthusiastic.
Class of 1909 Reaulen.
The class of 1909 held its reunion today and was represented on the program by Augustus Simmons, who was the class president. The school at Mt. Meixa, Alabama. The class was represented by eight members and they presented to Principal Robert B. McKinney as their evidence of continued loyalty and devotion. The Alumni speaker related many happy experiences of the members of his class were in school and recited some of the achievements of individual members. The class members have gone into life and have kept with them the "Tunkeece Spirit." He concluded his address with a heartfelt reminder of the graduating class of 1918.
Farmers Recognized.
A few years ago, the late Dr. Washington realizing the great amount of work and hard work that many handicapped have accumulated, and fortunes decided that Tuskegee Institute would in recognition of these three years from various sections of the South to receive a certificate of certification this year were J. Somewhere in West Texas, May 19, 1919 I left Dallas, the airport, and since day, May 12, for Corpus Christi, and since that time, I have not foot in Denion, Sherman, Gainesville, Henrietta and this is the Day, Monday, and I am loading baggey for denton, Lewisville and Grand Prairie, all of which towns whereabouts or do-abouts, may be found by reference to my date sheet, whereabouts or do-abouts, may be found by reference to my wanderings are announced. It will be observed that I did not go to Pilot Point. There is a reason. It is because I will not be at Wilmot Damascus and Parson William Hamden Varcus, the men who ran the Point (two or three times of the day) decided that they did not still remain there, and if they could not stay on the Point, why it was useless for me to go
Coralcana.
I arrived in the Navarro County Capital, just as the sun neared the top of the 12, 1919. Because no man knew the hour of my arrival, no man met me. I was uped in an ancient transfer wagon driver. In ebony, who owned a still more antiquated car, I managed to bring the journey to the S. J. Chestnut Store, which has a record of a quarter Century of steady growth and suburbs. The old tar wdriver that wagon, while chewing his Battle Axe tobacco, he wanted to know about many things. He wanted to know about many things. I was struck by his knowledge of men and places. He was a League of Nations and the Treaty of Peace, the date when Woodrow Wilson would return to his job, the status of his family, the closed by asking me what I thought of John H. Kirby. I answered all of his questions, not however to his satisfaction. Corsicana people are doing more in a commercial way than at any
The colored business and professional man is coming for more gesture consideration than ever. Of course he is not a professional, who, I thank God, will soon join that "silent majority on the other side," who still believe that the truth is true. He will still pass by the colored enterprise which is struggling up to the place where it can have a many colorful business. He will spend their money and grin, at the white stone, but they are growing beautifully less. The same truth can be written on the wall, capped, elevated white newspapers individual, who reads white newspapers only, he too is in the passing, and will soon be in the business ever has been known to return.
Denison
According to announcement, my friend Dr. T. T. McKinney, met the train for me on the morning of Tuesday, and we met at City College. He missed me. I was coming on a later interurban, which expressed to Dr. McKinney's office where along with Deplet. Willie, we got together. Later edition Joe owena, showed me a table to sleep at Nixon, a gallery of art.
moving spirits. The drug store, I understand is among the enterprise soon to be established. The Bulletin, the local newspaper and printery, is showing every sign of improvement, and if the colored people are sured. Rev. J. W. Carter is well on the way with the foundation of his new business, it will be a fitting rift oflopewell in the same neighborhood. I saw Merchant A. H. Torrell and other business people popular Joe Popper. Mr Poohl, the imitative Sam Williams the one and only Jim Love. J. H. Riddle and B. H. Riddle are fame. Prof. Mims and Prof. Frank Johnson, are still found there. I like Frank Johnson, I am still蒙蒙ed with the morning of the 14th, to Sherman, where I made my home with Rev. and McKinsey. Denison is march on.
Sherman
The morning of May 14, I reached Sherman and immediately Rev. J. H. Bell, pastor of the C. M. E. Church, pastor of the B. M. Church. To make a long story short, we took in the town frm Center to circumference. We visited the famous Kirkpatrick Public School—460 students during the day. After the lecture, I was invited to and took a major part in a luncheon which was fit for a king. The host
At night the pastor presided and Dr. D. W. Foster introduced me to a special audience. I spoke from the audience and visited the Andrea building, and saw the inhabitants there. The audience of Sherman the old town is in a rut. In my judgment, it is in need of both leadership and training, and the training has been carried to the point that not one of the petty chiefs will consent to follow the other. Because of the training, Sherman, whose voice can be heard, whose mandate will compel obedience, will be able to intervene, however, and I still entertain the point that some day...Yes; some sweet day—they may be found rallying a community to "put it over." Dr. A. N. Prince, Sherman, Mr. Johnson, from Kirkland, California, organizes today as of yore occupy their places in the elements, but their memoirs progress. Sherman has halted, but I expect some day to see her keep step to the rattling drumbeat of the march.
Gainesville
I unloaded at the Katy depot the morning of the 15, and through the door immediately to the offices of Dr. Strong and Mitchell the former a business house was at the residence of Dr. and Mr. Strong. I took supper with Rev. and Mrs. Strong, I chaperoned the spoke and Mrs. Brown, the brilliant publisher, is pastor, Mesra, Blackman, Woody, Mr. Moore were much in evidence. "Put some business in religion," was the subject of my remarks. But what that I said was pertinent to an interesting situation. Rev. McPawson is a great business man and could build his own a big man on a big job. But Galenville does not show the program to which her intelligence and experience stores, undertaking establishment, restaurants, bakeries and churches and exceptions, undertaking establishment, exceptions they are like the Irishman's horse—there but not doing much. But Galenville suffers some what from the same malady. I hope to hear that Galenville has seen from her lethery
Henrietta
I came here the 16th of May from Gainesville and the tearful clouda of tears filled my heart. I turned here Monday, night, May 19. The bi-chest Colored man here is Mr. Sam Wright. He colored man and a stone, hall and hotel across the street. There are two churches here—P. R. H. Jackson is pastor of the church. The church is the house of the Church has taken a Rev. Chance to guide her. The house is the house of the church used because the lay County, schools for colored children are of a few days old. I arrived in this town at 9:00 a.m. clock-sharp, p. m. I went immediately to the school where not only had he arisen, but where not only had he arrived my coming, but had written me not to come. I did not get the letter. His letter was on a drawing card. When he found out that the city schools would hear an educational cormand and that the Odd. John would not draw a card on the boards at the churches at the same hour I was to speak, he at once drew a card on the boards would not draw the complication. He had something to learn. I saw Rev. Johnson of the A. M. E. school be full. The Odd Felkins adorned, the Holy Rollers went on and the platform, and Harrison Welch had learned something. Rev. Johnson called the meeting to order and Dr. E. W. King a physician introduced me. I Wichita Falls is a great twin, just turning right into a city of some $3,000 million in graxy. It is eight miles from the Burk-Burnet oil of oil, and to be one of the greatest suburban oil pools
The colored people may number 5,000 and they are a bunch of life in the church. They build substantial colored improvements. Church schools, homes and business enterprises are on the program. That indicates you call money to the church. They bring in on the ground floor. There is a doctor and an understake and while they are in the same building, I have them and they work together—the Lord forbid.

The churches are hew and the pastors the intelligent. The Apostolic church intelligent. The Apostolic church intelligent. The best men in the state, and one tells you the Holy Roller cuts some flesh. The white people and the coedors are not living in love. Saturday Night a "cusset" Commendable, slapped a man let out the manuscripts of his auto-military and his good loyalty and his officers life. There was a little ripple on the sea, but up to the time of Fl. Worth, the bad men of the plains, had not exchanged the commendations.
Among the things which the outside world is sending to Wichita Falls I want added a full corga of religion. WHITE AMERICANS FEAR COL-

"How can Great Britain ask us to permit the ignorant and super-
power of India, incapable of self-government, cast a vote equal to that of the United
Rced Becomes Caustic.
When Senator Reed reiterated that small and ignorant nations would have an equal vote with the United States, he rejected the exchange and became so heated that the chair rapped for order. He had it out said Senator Reed. "Answer me, has the learce or has it not anything to do?"
"The league itself has little to do," replied Mr. Hitchcock. "The league is a false, not itt" itf.
"No, the executive power is in the hands of a council or five great nations." "Then," retorted Mr. Read, "inspiring power that have handed themselves together to rule the world."
Senator Knox (Rep.) of Pennsylvania pointed out that any question which could be considered by the council could also be referred to the assembly, in which each member has one vote.
"But in that case, said Mr. Hitchcock, the rule would apply in the council and the vote would have to be unanimous."
Senator Reed insisted this meant the hands of the United States could be given to the vote from Liberia. "In this view he was supported by Senator Knox. Senator Reed, "that you could buy the representatives of Liberia at any time with each of potatoes if you wanted to represent the representative of Haiti for a like amount if somebody wasn't there to raise the ante."
Senator Reed Incorporated. Senator Reed and Mr. Hitchcock again clashed sharply when the latter suggested that the Missouri Senate endorsed the original league because the United States would be outvoted, and now opposing the revision when the "You have to shift your position." Senator Reed replied, "when you get to what 'that won't stand still three minutes.'"
Senator Hirschcock said he had argued that the United States could not be punished under the original league plan. "Your friends in Paris showed you that they mistaken, Mr. Reed replied, "and they right and you were wrong, by their amendments. They repudiated your attempts. Without speaking directly on the Johnson resolution. Senator Reed made a general attack on the league plan, but he did not support of the league plan never could be explained at home by Senators from the South with its Negro League. "The Chinese and Japanese problems."
Appeals to the South.
Turning dramatically to his Democratic colleagues, he continued:
"It a Republican President had brought it here—if Rosevelt had brought it here—there is not a Democrat who has been standing by me side fighting to the last ditch to rescue the country from so monstrous and so Southern Democrats, particularly were childed for refusing to recognize the Negro as an equal at the beginning of the century, ceeping South Africa and other nations where the black race predominates as members of the league as an equality with the United States. "You think you can control the vote of the black race," he asserted. "You think of the race equality you never will."
To support his prediction that the black races would combine to emerald white race. Senator Reed cited the amendment offered by Japanese deleterious laws, which guaranteed race equality. Although the amendment failed, the Japanese delegates reserves the right to clare a league of nations or some other "international power" to be emerald white race in theivation of the Negroes in the treatment of the Negroes in the United States and South Africa.
In his speech of nearly three hours Senator Reed presented a mass of information regarding the smaller members of the league. The member Nations in the league, he said, tainted in population only 285,488,200, while those whose other members are in the majority held populations 125,488,200. Analyzing racial and moral conductions in Honduras, Panama and which would have league membership Senator Reed said: "The South of the United States, you whistle," you want to give Panama with its 99 per cent of Negroes the vote a vote equal to the United States, that plea in the league one Negro outside the United States would have equal to 500,000, whiten of the Republic. While the Missouri Senator was an ally in the Senate, Representative Madison (Brown) now made a speech criticizing it in the House and declaring the Americas equal terms with the peoples of Europe. No general debate developed, however at that end of the Capitol.
When the Johnson resolution comes up in the Senate Wednesday Seman- day, he expects to open debate with a speech supporting the league. He had given notice that he would speak today, but adjournment was taken before the vote.

Mrs. Sutton to better world Mrs. Sutton was loved by all who knew her. She had such a quiet heart that she would not sleep, six years, but bore her suffering as none other, but God will childishly for her that loving hands and skilled physicians could do, but to her she would not be for her in the family circle but loved ones let us remember God sees best at all times and as he had her place protected. We heartily sympathize with her daughter, Nettie, who was no longer a child. Mrs. Sutton, Mrs. M. I. H. Johnson, may God bless them in their home. The remains were laid to rest in Greenwood. We miss them from the place

We miss their shining face.
We miss the kind and willing hand,
The found and earnest care
Our home is in park where
We miss these everywhere.
Her life was like a flower
In the garden of love
Transplanted to a place in Heaven
To greet her loved ones above.
Help her to realize, dear Lord
In her grief stricken heart today
That thou was good in giving
And just in taking away.
How joyful is the thought
That liners when loved ones

COMING!
HON. W. E. KING
EDITOR DALLAS EXPRESS, DALLAS, TEXAS, LECTURER AND SOCIAL SERVICE ADVOCATE, STATE ORGANIZER NEGRO BUSINESS LEAGUE in TEXAS.
Will lecture in the interest of the Business League and Social Service Work in Texas. With over a quarter century of work in Texas an institution which concerns the State and its people from every angle, Mr. King has had much experience and what he is undertaking to do for the people of Texas and the nation here. When you see the announcement of his coming, lay and lay your doubts indifference and produce a success. It will help you.
Belng MIs-understood.
Another thing, I am being misunderstood and be forced to believe I am a hindered, hindered. Often when I write the leading man, or rather the one whom I am supposed to be, I am hindered by city or community; of my coming, he gets the idea that I am coming to see a crowd that will fill the bigest house in town—that I am a professional axe and to grind, hidden under my coat. And if everything is wrong, I have a crowd to which to spout, and he can at the same time, show the town of pretty, beautiful homes, when all this is done. This is all wrong. I don't want to show or show my axe. I want to show or show my axe. What I do want is:
Int. When I write you, you want to int. When I write you, you want to other men of influence, who like yourself, want to see more business in your home or employment to young Colored people.
2. Organize them "to a committee to meet the most thoughtful men and do something to better the business and moral conditions of the rose, right out of the garden, gotten out all right; if not, get out the people who want to see better the community. I will be a clad lady in your community. I will be so happy you can help yourselves.
3. Write me, intelligently and may come on. Between the time you write me and talking up the meeting, place and the date. If convenient get out hand bills and put your advertisement in the mail. When I come, have some one to meet me. When you hear me speak to you, I will ask what I did what I told you and your town will be better and your people encouraged.
4. Do not change my dates, except for death of an awful disaster.

THE STORY
RUTH ROLAND
Studying music in Germany is a great and wonderful adventure for Marie Lohr, until she tries to get back to America, her native country, and the path with difficulties, for the Fatherland is unwilling to allow the German ancestry out of his old suit. Marie is in love with Robert Stedman, a plucky American aviator. This arouses the jealousy of her German author, Major Von Rohn, who exerts every effort to keep the two lovers apart. It is to his interest to hold a meeting in a plot where she will be detained in Germany and possibly fall into his hands. Marie is ordered to conduct a group of Americans safely out of Germany, and Marie is left behind among a jeering crowd of men and women. Von Rohn asks Marie if she does not want his protection; and she shrieks from his instructions.
This means that Von Rohn has given her passports to a notorious woman who is to go to France. She will inform him will further be held in the prison and the explorer and the marshal steals the passports and documents out of her hand. Paint her flatty attire of the dead woman transform Marie Lohr completely. By posing as the cocotte, the innocent girl makes her way to the frontier city she meets dire trouble in the person of Major Von Rohn. He recognizes her, and has her his mercy. Marie, thinking that all was well, has communicated with Robert and he has come to rescue her. In the closet, Robert is in his bride and lover. In the closet, Stedman hears Von Rohn threatening to make his wife dead and of killing her for her cruelty, he says, he will make this woman his own. Stedman rages in the closet and makes a scream: "Who is in there?" he demands.
Marie makes no reply. Von Rohn strides toward the closet and draws his revolver. He is ready to shoot. Marie makes no reply. Stedman's arm is bent at the hip. She has killed him. Quickly Marie opens the closet door. Stedman lies on the clothes with the German, she is escaping. Just as the mob is about to fall upon them they dawn into Stedman's aeroplane and are carried to safety.

Directly following Sunday School, to the credit of all the pastors in town, they were very enthusiastic in various churches were dispensed with, every one turned out to the Blackshear High School Baccalaureum, and Smith in the High School auditorium. Such a sermon was preached as 'was never heard before in Greeback upon an occurrance of this kind in his best and seemingly tried to go beyond himself. The graduating class seemed to drink in the sermon, and the devilish device. The auditorium listened with marked attention throughout the discourse and judging from many of the comments, they were pleased beyond measure.
At night cowl pastor Pearson presided on an excellent sermon after which sacrament was administered and those who were baptised was fellowshipd into the church. The sermon was beginning to swaken to a sense of their responsibilities, watch our solid phalanx go up against the overcome. A bigger and better Groesbeck is our motto.
