William McKenzie works with his staff storing to all the ancient tricks of the trade to defeat Mr. Wareley, and his crafty work have been successful. Another political fight attracting national attention is the candidacy of William McKenzie, the former team of the Cleveland bar, regarded of color. He has been a member of the leading cities of Chicago, and by many groups of citizens, lost to the election by only a small minority. Where there are open and violent disturbances at law and order, cunning every body to suspect the best and kindest way always be for the authorities to get with horrors, weakness or injury in dealing with them. The authorities must then to break out, attack, and in the end more blood is killed and more property destroyed when the evil were handled vigorously by law.

Then into the empty arms of the tiny unnamed white child. Long minutes passed, before the "mother" looked at the dainty bundle of clothes she was holding in the baby's white dress. At last the woman gazed reluctantly upon the war face, scragged against her heart. She smiled for her tears she smiled for her tears.

The Interest of the White and the Black Runs Parallel and Could Not Conflict. Admiresmen to Beware of the Aglator.
Mayor Frank W. *Wosser* crafted a plan to bring the right to the Chinese and Religious Congress. His address was well received and was listened to with the respect he urged the interests of the whites and blacks was one running parallel and that it could not be ignored. He said that for agitators and any one going about with a chip on his shoulder should be viewed as an enemy, which would be declared that an unnatural condition a one part of the city was a unnatural condition of the whole city, since if does not be sent into the unnatural intrigue the disease of the unnatural intrigue the agitator is beaten by means of the clothing.
The Mayor complimented the New York Welfare Board as being commanding. He also insisted that he pass through the board he was learning more of the needs and needs of the community.

conditions of the colored people.
In the beginning of his address, the Mayor (illustrated the invitation of the people who had lived together for a number of years, and finally had a misunderstanding, and some one offered a larger amount of money, but the Mayor could contain time, or the surrender of his disagreeable consent, whereupon he gave the amount of money asked for but that he liked his proposition. So he lifted the proposition of addressing the colored people and learned of his purpose. He commanded the Chantagua movement since it was the first of its kind to be called a religious people for educational and deeply religious purposes. He complimented the Mayor. Dr. Johnson, as a leader that worked with people followed by the colored people.
He declared much unrest usually used in reconstitution periods and in the early years of the war, but not matters would soon be adjudicated for the good of all concerned if every one did and kept the right and do his duty and keep the peace and harmony in his own habit.

Points in Favor of the Publishing Board.
First, that the Publishing Board had the right, under its Charter, to elect or perpetrate themselves in office.
Second, that the Board is the original National Baptist Publishing Board.
Now view point, the first decision, in favor of the Morris Convention, is of prime importance as to which organization in the real world should be the most important in the United States have, all along, followed and regarded the Morris organization as the proper National Baptist Board. That is, that section of the charter which gives the Publishing Board the right to elect its members or to appoint its officers. The second point in favor of the Publishing Board is of no importance nor has ever been a debatable one for, everyone knows and has recognized the original Publishing Board." The question at issue and point involved is—"Who owns and controls that Board—or the National Convention?" As above stated, the attorneys on neither side are satisfied with the degree of appeal has been, given by both.
With the exception of the decision of the Publishing Board to perpetuate the book, we feel perfectly satisfied with our fight and congratulate ourselves upon the achievement of the publication to graduate ourselves upon achievements, thank God for the present victory and trust Him for the future. We are grateful to the teachers that it is taught everywhere that it is illegal, dangerous and inappropriate to "nominate and elect" any and all members of its Board, out of the parent body and the publishers and editors.

The final session was much vexed over the inability to make a reasonable profile of the real person of real and personal property at Dallas, Texas, Taurakuna, Waco, and Houston, and ordered the Board of Grand Curators to make a discretion in making sale of such property as would be to the best interest.
In the discussion attendant on legislation many speeches were made on the subject. L. Dickson his brother, S. J. Prof. Halbert, Dr. G. S. Conner, Prof. W. Halbert, Dr. G. NEGROES URGED TO SUPPORT LEAGUE OF NATIONS
Tuskegee, Alabama.—"It is up to you, the African no longer lovers the general level by allowing you to see the people of Africa. It is up to you to see that her people get a fair deal and a just education, and not in name only," said Dr. A. G. Fraser, former missionary to Africa, in an address at the Tuskegee Institute, in 1981. "The British Commission on Education in the villages of India, in the few persons to survive an attack of the dreaded sleeping sickness, has spent many years of unselfish and faithless education to the African people, and education to the depressed and backward people of India and Africa. Under these conditions, under proper guidance, can do much to ensure protection and justice for the African people Amona Tuskegee.

Trusting Citizen* of Newark Give Up
$3,000 for Boxes and Bags
of Gold.
Newark, N. J., Aug. 2—There are people still willing to pick prizes from the crop of gold bricks. It has been said that the city were recently fenced by slick strangers entered in "gold." Samuel Petk met two engaged men in Newark who had a box one of them carried was filled with raw gold. He lifted the box and found it delightfully heavy. He was needed to take care of it for his new found friends and agreed to do so. But he was not willing to carry the box. Petk drew a thousand real dollars from his bank and the strangers left the box with him. "It's 60 cents' worth of brass fitting." A "bag of gold" was the bait used to purchase the two of other trusting Newark men. Still another resident admitted paying $1,000 for a "diamond" ring that he had been worth 85 cents when new.

Inherits Taste for Narcotics from Mother-Signs Disappear in Ratio of Amount of Drug Administered.
How the sina of parents are visited when the children is shown by a case nurse (Yerk), by Christian F. J. Laseau, an associate surgeon of St. Mark's hospital, or by the child's mother, the child of an opunt adnail displayed at ones all the symptoms of addiction. It is an interesting one, because, if correctly described, it negates some current theoretical drug abuse, something that can be physically transmitted from mother to child as well. The child described in Dr. Laseau's narrative as a child is also updated to appear for over two years. The baby was a well-purified, healthy appointee to the child, it was very resilient. Dr. Laseau says
Following the administration of the infant's saline, the infant became quiet and in every way acted and seemed normal.
The mother was very anxious to avoid continuing to give the opiate to the child, and delayed in administering it. She would develop the above symptoms, however, at intervals of about six minutes, severity varying according to the length of time the mother delayed in administering the opiate. She fully established, the necessity for paragurk administration ceased. The infant awakened, and the mother brushed the mother's milk. The mother nursed the child or regular juvenile milk, and the mother would display a resilientness when she was normal children, which she not nurseries. The mother went for a longer interval before taking her own opiate, or when she took it in diminished quantity. The child displayed earlier symptoms, which she trawl sympathetic sympathy, it being necessary at times to supplement the infant with a drop or two of paragurk. A particularly the amount supply, to the amount present in the mother.
Pictures in Child and Mother Same.
The picture of physical symptomation was identical with the picture in the mother; the various symptoms occur in the mother; the various symptoms occur in the mother; and following the same reactions, to update administration, and also yield to nothing other than the above observed closeness, consider the general upset the generally accepted theories of opiate addition expressed and impossible to attempt to explain any of the phenomena displayed by the old head of sensuous enjoyment, of deliberate indulgence, morbid curiosity, vicious or criminal inflictions, etc. The body of the infant was beyond all argument purely physical in their origin and the machine in that infant was in that infant's body caused the physical manifestations it exhibited. The body of the infant itself, and not merely supplied to it itself, and not merely supplied to it the umbilical circulation from its mother, other manifest the symptomology after birth or after a reasonable time while still in utero developed the function of protective mechanism and been carried on that function after birth.

WHY KAP-O-LINE Wins Preference
For fifteen years Kapoline has stood the test, made good and time is the severest test of any product. It could fill this whole paper with testimonials from people who endure Kapoline after all has failed. Kapoline is what nature has created, and it is what hair. Not the matted gummy kind, but hair that is fluffy and full of life, checks hair fine, eliminates dandruff, strengthens and protects hair.
The hair must be thoroughly washed. We recommend Kapoline Shampoo, as it puts the hair in a clean antiseptic condition. To apply Kapoline rubbing well into the scalp for six nights, brush and wash the hair thoroughly. After about six days' treatment you will have beautiful straight hair. Kapoline saves worry, throw away your hot combs that are only drying your hair and doing no good whatsoever. We recommend Kapoline 35 cents per hair. Kapoline Shampoo 60 cents per hair. Kapoline diapers or diapers upon request of price. Manufactured by STONE & Co., Portsmouth, Dallas, Texas. The still tongue makes the wise head—Don't talk so much.
Mobs are much alike. They do not take geography into the account.
Judging by the avalanche description which once prescribes, give if the final results of numerical conduct one lied to believe that before they came to the ministry they must have been a leader. Let we trust, all white men are not our enemies. Some are friends. Let us by deny cultivate the friendship of the element which believe in just laws and their enforcement of them. Let us deny cultivate other whites, stay as far from them as a man should stay from his enemy.
Colored men, for: no organizations intended to carry out purposes which will do harm. There are no organizations country being run over time by white men to destroy every government. There are no am. For God's make don't start.

There is still a little too much joy riding at night in automobiles which carry light in front and behind only. The way the lights are carried is not the driving-harder still to tell who is being driven. Well, this is the auto nero. We had to have it.
Now, we see on the Southern mob truck with the Northern mob. With thirty-five dead in Chicago up till last Friday night and 15,000 wounded, a man must be given the Northern mob.

nana". The expected is appealing.
For years the letter of the law in this country has been separated from what should have been his legal authority, forcing element—white men—has insisted on proceeding in all matters in which object—black men—must介nate objects. He just a certain whose rights and privileges, were best subservient by not allowing him to have anything to do or be about.
As for the part which white men have had and are having in all the countries of the Dallas Exposre, has no word to say—no opinion to express.
As for the unlawful part taken in the Dallas Exposre, it has no Afro-Americans, it has only unqualified condemnation. It believes in law and order, it has no request for justice, it does not believe that two women make one right; therefore his Colonel must not believe that he must set white mobs, stand in the exorcible mob mobs an exercise in this final. Finally, we must枣ble our differences if we are to live in it is common sense; the little must start as Washington that those who shall have in hand the program, will remember that the ever settled, it was settled right.
We have never seen any excuse a mob in Anger," she especially said. "We have seen people of the 100,000,000 people in the country only 125,000,000 are Afro-Caribbean." Police office position, adorns the knight in each court, warns the seats of the police force. Hilarity, go on other sites, occupies all the seats in both branches of the police force. President and in charge of all the armed and the navy. With the silly name of the police force, who mob an Afro-American? Cannot the man who trick himself into a police officer. We hope no Colored man will understand to an audience. Tiny are disguised.
HOPE
(By The Associated Nr. Ro-rem)
He has been, with excellent help, held up by our new presidents have too little encouragement in them. One has expressed it: "When you finish read, you can blow as blue as air, or fighting. As a matter of fact, there is much of love and cheer to be found in the treatment of the young people. The future out for the benefit of the young people particularly, intimidation is necessary for the achievement of a part of the daily life of the land. The people with a good opinion, or a bark once in a white coat, are a great help. In an that there should not be penalties for substitution, and that there should not be found in our passions."
THE MIRROR OF PUBLIC OPINION
The letter of Governor Pleasant on the subject—himself a most ardent supporter of the action of Alaskan immigrants—earned for it—must be hold largely responsible for the action of Alaskan immigrants, reliably quoted that other Southern states, possibly Connecticut and New Jersey, may persist in their opposition. The opposition would be still stronger but the opposition would be still stronger in New Orleans and a similar class of politicians in Texas in refusing to support the proposition in both states the proposition was voted down, although it was victorious. The opposition to the proposition of the state pronounced for suffrage, and it was defeated by the war form of politics, the majority of the state pronounced for suffrage, and it was defeated by the war form of politics, the majority of the state pronounced for suffrage, and it was similarly defeated by a small majority, whereupon the General Assembly voted to reinstate the popular will by indicating the Anthony amendment by big Legisla-
Many of the states have taken no action, as yet in the matter of opposition to the amendment has increased in the South with the fuller discussion of the issue in its own other hand, sentiment seems to run strong in its inward North. It is hard to claim to the thirty-s states necessary Constitution. It is unfortunate that suffrage, which is favored by an imbalance in the population of an American, as in Great Britain, is not allied with all other countries, was not adopted in the United States, as it could and should be, but was defeated of the several states; but this plan was defeated by a few selfish political American women must not be denied the right to participate in the election of the federal government of other lands are doing. If the failure of the amendment occurs before the state's Legislature—which in the case of the federal amendment submitted to the State's Legislature—which in the case of the federal amendment that will be adopted must be submitted to the opposing state. New York is the only state in the nation that will be guilty of the folly of a new age, when they refused to align themselves with the rest of the United States. *New Orleans Times Pictures.*

CHICAGO DEMONSTRATES
The Chicago riot appears have less leases and more warm underbelly. It takes anything of the kind that I have seen in the past. One wonders what it is all about, or what good it will accomplish. One waths with breeches expented and with a hat. The r. n. question harms to the surface, unquestionably but why? There have been 34 deaths and seven hundred injuries already, but to what purpose? It is unceivable that Chicago contemplates patting the Negro in Berlin.
It is still more incomprehensible that Chicago could imagine the NeoRock getting out of" his place. "I don't know," he said, "for 'hoodlum」- responsible, for that were to assume that hodlumlum is too dominating a factor in Chicago's life.
That Chicago is very arny may not be the case. No city could induce itself in such a general smashing of heads, peeling of bones and free for all the people in the adequate background of temper. But what has made Chicago angry? In the stunt merely an expression of anger, not a real desire. Has the race question been seized upon as the hardest excuse for railing against the people, holding trade strike but recently, with the Interim Harvester Company's lock-up, having held trading strike throwing up their working and crying "To hell with the public," and the hot weather hitherto overpopulated, the patience as the cause of her most recent trouble, Chicago is subject to the cause, sense of unrest which affect the whole country, and they are not the first to be hurt. What is the cost of living and the trying demands of reconstruction are playful with the state, that of every after community. She claims the center of the state of troop, her passionate use of troop, her passionate use of lawmen, her margar
curriculum into the field of disorder, may not be so peculiar or inexplicable as it seems. Perhaps there are other cities standing on the verge of just such outbreaks. Perhaps this comes about from the fact that thousands upon thousands of people, but not all of them, are different in trouble, but are actually stiring it up. Perhaps we have an element of restlessness all through this country which it is time to recognize and discourage. Perhaps there are too many young blooms, and widespread a thought that violence is too persistent, and there is too persistent and widespread a thought that violence is too persistent, and there is too persistent and everything. Perhaps we are all a little too sore, and too much inclined to aggrieve difficult situations, and disposition to avoid trouble, instead of provoking it, we should all feel a sense of relief. We had said one wise word at the psychological moment, instead of throwing a brick, there wouldn't be so many dead and dying in Chicago today.

Anne Luther plays an extremely difficult double role of twin sisters, and in the course of the serial she undertakes many spectacular acts, such as a mad ride over the river cliff which she and her sister jump from a bridge into the river in a motorized pool in the Florida Everglades—treed by a pack of timber wolves in the Canadian wild, and other daring and death defying stunts. Runs a year Sunday with "THE CARTER CASE."

But the wife surrises that in the past there was some attraction between her husband and the girl. She confirms her suspicions and an electrifying scene with her rival, which is one of the best bits of super dramatic acting ever seen. Without the eighth warning of any kind the fast Saratoga Express, speeding along at the rate of 75 miles an hour, crashed into the box car a painting to pieces and died over a steep embankment. This trible castrophe was carefully planned and executed because Saratoga race track on the famous race horse known as "THE WHIP." Because it was known "THE WHIP" woould win the race, plotters tried to destroy the horse before it could reach the race track. "THE WHIP" was being taken to Saratoga in a box car attached to the rear end of the Overland Special, but was detached from the train and left standing in the path of the fast Saratoga Belle without light or safety signals. Speeding along at a terrific speed the Saratoga Express hurried with its trainer, and Earl Bracaster, a young sporting man who had raced in his high school motor car to the rescue of the horse and train, when he learned over the phone of the conspiracy to wreck the train. From him it was learned that Baron Sartorius, a foreign nobleman was responsible for the terrible wreck. The Baron was arrested, also a Mrs. D'Aquilia. Both were put through the "third degree." After a night of questioning the Baron finally broke down and confessed to the crime by itself. The picture cost 200,000 dollars. The hunt scene with two hundred dogs and a hundred car riding riders tearing across country, the wild ride in the racing auto and the explosion of the car and other gigantic thrills that fill "THE WHIP" with astonishment and excitement.

A rare combination of modern art and gynecology will participate in the first showing in this city of "The Outcasts of Poker Flat" at the MAMMOTH THEATRE, Wednesday. True they will participate in spirit and in shadow only, but a person need not been present in the flesh to perform a certain function or execute a wonderful bit of art. This combination namely includes the master work of the beloved author, Bret Hart, whose "Outcasts of Poker Flat" in book form has shone brilliantly throughout these many years and now that it has been filmed will live forever. Added to this is the artistry of the famous star, Harry Carey, who depicts the role of John Oaknurst, the gambler in the story.

Bret Harte used to say "the critics are a heap of things in my stories that I never put there." From all reports the pictureurization of Outcasts of Poker Flat" required additional scenes and atmosphere that, to be sure, Harte "never put there," but if the great author were alive today the producers feel certain that he would be highly clated over the liberties taken with his brain child by scenario writer H. Tipton, Stock and director Jack Ford.
As seen on the screen of the MAMMOTH THEATRE "The Outcasts of Poker Flat," is said to be a masterpiece. Harry Carey, fine, young man of the real masculine type that he is, could hardly want for a better part than that of John Oakhurst and he doubtlessly has taken advantage of this superior role. In the supporting cast are Cullen Landis, Gloria Hope, Joel Harris, Victor Polet, J. Parrel McDonald, J. Webster Dill, Charles Hill Males, Virginia Chester" and Louise Leater.

William Desmond in Western Role for One Day, Beginning Saturday, August 9th
The MAMMOTH THEATRE is fortunate in being able to present the versatile Triangle star. William Desmond, in "Deuce Duncan" on Saturday night.
"Deuce Duncan" offers Mr. Desmond a role of unusual interest. He portrays the character of a dare-devil cowpuncher who fears neither God, man nor evil. The little bar-maid of the "Half Acre of Hell" saloon wins his heart and he turns his guns to good purposes.
A unique element in this picture is that in which the cowpunchers of the UR ranch grease their cattle in order to locate rustlers. Desmond wades through some terrific battles in this thriller.
In the cast supporting him are Lola Maxima Edm, Brady George, Field William Ellington and Joe Singleton.

SOME CALLAS BOYS WHO RISE FROM THE BOTTOM AND FOUND ROOM AT THE TOP.
Stonewall Jackson Lawry, Hon. A. S. Woll, Dr. W. H. Y. Hooper, Dr. M. C. Cooper, Mr. F. C. Rutherford, J. G. Jordan, Dr. D. Rowen, Rowen Brothers, Grand Master J. D. Winn Served Thirty-Years as Principal of One School. L. O. Winn Succeeded Her Father as Principal.
Some Room Still at the Top, Boys
By N. W. Marice.
Stonewall Jackson Lowery, the retired merchant, was once a bell boy and a waiter at a hotel. In the course of time, he exchanged position and vocation to a bell boy, who instead of waiting at the hotel, he waited on customers in his own store. Instead of passing delicate dishes of food to a bell boy, he instead of ringing a bell for a hotel, he rings a bell telling the price of staple and fancy goods. The bell boy who did his best in the things given to do that lead to his way to the successful business man that rose up and gained fame at home. Shall we point our boys to the man who rose in England or to the successful business man that rose up and gained fame at home. Mr. Lowery in an honorable citation of merit, wrote a letter to the firm of Lowery & Son. This firm conducted a successful business for several years and it was the pioneer in the field of church layman, and has taken an active part in public affairs and a veteran church layman, worthy of what one may do if he but tries to rise by honest and persistent efforts of industry and
Mr. Rutherford has set the worthy example of building from the bottom up, and for himself in the community a name and a standing that any one can aspire to. He is the founder of his fellow citizens. Starting out in the early 1960s, he founded and thrill accumulated so valuable property and built for his family a modern home. He is now a successful businessman and with his avocation. Success comes to the man who merits, and such has been Mr. Rutherford.
Dr. D. V. Hooper, once a porter in a drug store, is the one man who knew the importance of attention to details in the cannery mentioned, and rose up to an honored position with pharmacards and a drug store. One could have accomplished the results that Dr. Hooper has without him. He kept his eyes open, and he gave an attentive ear, and soon learned the long list of nominations in the drug store, and their medicinal qualities, their botanic relations and different forms and habits. A botanist in the company was of great service to the company.
Then, too, Mr. Hooper was alert, courteous, in every transaction he was honest and could be trusted with his business in such a position of trust was of much value to the firm. By careful observation, he soon learned that he could fill prescriptions and gather here a little and there a little, he combined all in a negro of information, and he entered the macy in all its bearing and thus qualifying himself by both practice and theory and entered the examination of biochemistry, and made the standard requirement of the state. There is always room at the top, and Dr. Hooper found his place at the bar of
Mr. Hooper is now engaged in a large successful drug store which serves as a moment to show the how many more boys like Dr. Hooper who rose from the ranks of an arrand boy to the position of a far-sighted business man. We need for "one one to lift us into business or she make us a business of our new making from $100 to $125 per month, say about this proposition?" Shall we have a place of business? How would we answer? Come let us reason together.
Another Dallas boy, albeit he is on a farm in Collin County, seven years old, has been pronounced by deserving to be into prominence, and finishing himself at an early age by common sense and having a good mind, up from the teaching mass of youngsters to the learned procluse of the State. Such a well-educated attorney, Mr. Wells taught schools, in this country so far, when the professional mind, working in the dce and studying at night to make his way, soon completed his course in Blackness, the juror of jurapride, and by dent of ardour study and close application, was admitted to the bar. Mr. Wells is a graduate of the Dallas Colored Institute of jurapride, the president of the local branch of the P. of Dallas, and also the Custodian of the Temple building, Mr. Wells there. There is a close meet. There is some more room at the box that has not been taken as a bank account today.
Mr. J. C. Jordan made his way up a

he is a valuable asset to this city. He did not wait for the mountain to move, and neither did he ask any one to move it, but he like with the pick, and shored of ambition and of industry and thrift, made it stand aside as he passed by and established in its place a prosperous grocery business.

Is there not some way in which the man soon unite to the whole family, whose whole means and working in unity and build from the bottom to the top? Do something with brains and money, plain or shall we make a start to do something with brains and money, nation eternally or shall we talk about business, nation eternally or shall we talk about business, nation will do us faster? What did the Jews do in this case, and why they now doing, and what have they done?
Mr. Bewen is a man of broad vision and keeps on booming ideas and is rich in his mental activity and his push and standing and real worth. He recently come to our city, was principal of the Colored school at Chailen Flood, and was conscientious to years, and resided the principalship of that school to accept the position of the Grand Master Winn is a great church worker, a trainee of service, and has thought in the little missions in the out of the way pleas to encourage them in their efforts, and has thus built up a large number of others. Mrs. Winn also has given twelve years of service as a teacher in the Hoces of Jérusalem, both as Grand Maron of the Hoces of Jérusalem, and as Grand Maron of the Winn brought the Blunt's residence for $7,500 and are numbered with our best citizens. Ms. Irma succeeded bob father as principal of the Samson School at kapel the Samson School at kapel the Samson School in the education of his two daughters.
Dr. M. C. Cooper, the dentist, is a man who made himself with skill in dental care. He is in the man, who rose up like a man to find his place among the dentists, when he was a child. He down the dusting brush in the whole sale department store and took up the instruments of the dentistry, in the hospital of bruise. Good which is commendable, he now brushes and cleans up and polish the teeth. Good health and in measure gives joy to life itself. He too found room at the top.

The first figure indicates the sum of the number of students in the State and support. The second number indicates those in existence. A study of the table shows the number who really believe in the N. M. C. A. and the principles for which it stands to receive a vote. The second to no State in point of organization and real constructive work done. We believe that reconstruction of the various towns in the State has convinced those who saw it that the nature of the work undertaken are imperative and the State Committee will get sample support for its expansion, and development. If the plana of the State Executive Committee can be carried out, we are of the opinion that within the next twelve months, there will be some tangible evidence that the Colored people of Texas will realize that there is a need for such an organization; and whether it be on the building plan, whether on the Community or non-equipment plan, whether for the city or the rural district, our faith in Texas be strong until we feel she will do something definite for her young manhood to conserve the religious, moral and intellectual life.
