It is the hope of the Conference that parliamentary action be responded in this case and that immediate action will be taken on a question so vital and important as the calling of this Racese Conference with the view of realizing a solid front against the ever increasing onslaughts of the enemy. The Call. "The world today has come to a critical period of its existence. Our society is in a state of crisis and situation. The promises of emulation and of full citizenship so easily made during critical period of life have given rise to the spirit of agitation among the race and a determination to thrust the Negro down into the abyss and to maintain him there forever. "Now while world readjustment is in progress and when other opportunities arise to the utmost to gain its rights and to maintain itself, must concentrate its best thought and energy to withstand and terrible onslaughts made against it. The race must be stimulated to constructive endeavor and must be brought into harmonious working conditions. The need is urgent, hay, imperative, then, for the assembling of a new society to consider the present position of the Race, and to devise ways and the hostile forces arrayed against it. CONVICT BEAT TO DEATH FLORIDA AND NORTH DAK TAKO CLAST (By A. N. P.) Tallahassee, Fla., April 7- North Dakota has demanded that Florida repeal its convict-labor laws at once. This breach of friendly relations between a State of the extreme north extreme South has been brought about by the death of one Martin Talbert in a convict lumber camp in Leon County in this State, North Dakota asserts that Talbert was beaten to death by a heavy whip in a whipping box "whipping bos" while he was unjustly held in a state of practical slavery. Martin Talbert was a member of well known family living in Minnesota, Kota. He was afflicted with the wanderlust. Out seeing the world, Martin Talbert was apprehended by the local authorities and hauled to Kota he met his death, it is asserted, at the hands of a brutal overseer, and some boy leaving a home of comfort to go out to see the world, some boy leaving a home of comfort to meet his heavy anxieties and thereby coming to grief. Martin Talbert is more than likely to come out of this tragic adventure, for the State of Florida is about to change its convict laws. Governor Hardie favors its Northern sister State against the system of which he was a victim. Governor Hardie favors the change. He has decided to demand of the legislature a repent of the convict lumber camp last week. It is expected that that body will heal his behest and the cruel death of a young, adventurous light on the life of this great State will be abolished to the great and lasting benefit of all its citizens. fare.
