Austin, Texas, Jan. 1—H撰报介谋于 Negro laborers in various parts of Texas and of Mexican workers in other areas. The three points has led Joe R. Negro farmers have received threatening letters, causing many of them to sell their crops and land at a sacrifice. The condition was brought to the attention of the Labor Commissioner by Senator
Say Negroes Kept Waiting.
In an East Texas town many nongraffa sharecroppers, those who are paid for farm work with a share of the crop, were forced to work for many weeks after they had gathered the crop to receive their pay. Some sharecroppers, who were forced to that if they pressed their alimony they would get into trouble, and consequently the Myera said. In connection with this case, a Negro representing twenty famine-stricken men of cotton, it was said, assistance in getting their share of the crop. Some of them had raised as high as 100 percent of cotton, it was said. The Lawyer said these cases by sending representatives to the communities from which the sharecroppers came, the business men and bankers of these sections that unless the alleged sharp practices were discounted, the State government would assist in obtaining labor next season. In every instance, Mr. Myera said, the sharecroppers were forced to work to "clean seas," ferreting out those who have been guilty of misappropriation. Conditions in Northern manufacturing centers are being investigated with a view to collecting the exact facts. If they succeed, the

Jacksonville, Fla., Jan. 5—The body of a young Negro man, riddled with bullets and his head crushed with an axe, was found in Dinmore, six miles west of Jacksonville, at 1 o'clock Sunday afternoon.
Authentics were told by residents of Dinmore that a white man had carried him to the spot to an automobile, fired several bullets and struck him in the head with an axe. He struck him in the head with an axe. J. S. Geiger, Justice of the Peace, received a telephone call shortly before he gave his name. The man told the Justice to go to Grand Crossing immediately to that a Negro had been lynched at Dinmore. He was attempting to organize a pose at the time the second call was made. Officials have been unable to learn the reason for the lynching.
The body of the Negro was lying tonight as the morgue at that of Gene Burman. The identification was made by his sister, who could assign no reason for the

DR. DURKEE TELLS OF PRESENT STATUS OF NEGRO AND PROPHESIES FUTURE
Washington, D. C. Jan. 2-Recently Dr. J. Stanley Durkee, President of Howard University, when asked to preface a book to his students, wrote words upon the theme, "The Negro Faces 1924" remarked that he was a black man in Howard University where best all the titles of racial life in America. He "The Negro faces 1924 with a new racial consciousness." His history of buried centuries is being written. A reason for the long night of racial captivity are clearly appearing. They were brought on the captivity of every race of history. Now the Negro thanks the women he had buried and repays him. He is determined to consolidate his powers, mass his strength, and overcome his difficulty by a racial war that will be fought and represented by his attributes to world betrayment. The following article is a reproduction from the Dallas News of Jan. 4, 1928, describing the wedding of the Negro and the white Starks and wife. The article, contributed by Professor N. W. Harlee, now principal of the Oak Cliff School, then reporter for the News, is so free from the present day prejudicial practice of newspapers as to cause us to marry the Negro and not the white Starks, or any of the other thousand and one uncompromising things which undermine proper dress, uproar and consider proper.
And, thinking of these things we wonder why the most important attention was paid to the activities of educated, cultured Nigerian citizens. The columns of the university were considered worthy of courteous treatment. And they were so condemned by the university that now are at the head of the larger projects of Dallas. But today, con-
a glimpse of the policy of the Dallas Morning News of thirty-two years ago, gave the public through the courtesy of Mrs. J. P. Starke, of the late Hone J. P. Starke, on the thirty-second anniversary of her marriage she brought to light among other highly treasured newspapers of the Dallas Morning News dated Jan. 4, 1882 which contained a full account of her marriage.
The news article was contributed by Prof. N. W. Harleigh, then reportant of the University, and a note that in those days the courteous titles of "Mr." and "Mir" were always used.
The article is in full as follows: COLORED SOCIETY ARIAZLE: At a Wedding in Their Upper Creature The Tolstoi and Numerous Presents. The tenet wedding perhaps in the history of Dallas Colored society occurred on the 14th of December, the crew of the Tolstoi and Numerous Presents wilt and Prof. J. P. Starke, principal of Colored school No. 2. A collection of these have been furnished the News by Prof. N. W. Harleigh and runs as a project of Dallas.
The bride was attired in blue silk crepe de chinis and white watered silk with good trimming. A beautiful bouquet of white roses in her hair held her cell, which was tucked in silk dress with end of her train. Mrs. Spencer, unnus guardian of the bride, were silk with gilt and plush trimmings. Somehow it seems that the two classes of people have drifted into mental habits that do not allow such consideration—and this is true in spite of the fact that the number of Negroes has materially increased. Today the news of the newborn of Negroes has hardly find space in the daily papers of large Southern cities. Editors seem rather to welcome nothing but the news of our people. And by that class of news of all of us are known, we are sure such a change is in easy for those who read nothing but the criminal or humorous news of people who say that people are either criminal or simply mimic prowling. CLEVELAND PREPARES FOR
REPUBLICAN NATIONAL
CONVENTION
Cleveland, Ohio, Jan. 5—Cleveland is fluttering with excitement and anticipation. The biggest even in the history of the international Convention, will be here in June, and the people are determined that it will an occasion long to remember.
So far as the spectacular aid, conducted by the United Nations in Public Hall, is very certain that Calvin, Johnson, at all will furnish all the entailment that one might expect from the strong point that way. But what Cleveland is deeply concerned about is the people that the people will receive. that the people will receive.
Cleveland is a large and beautiful city of the United Nations population. There are 40,000 Colored people living here. It was not always thus. Migration has brought about 15,000 in the city in the last year and we are associated. Named Negro Press can assure Colored America that every one

and thus fail to measure up to what it might in making for the success of the civic unit of which it is a part. The civic unit of which it is a part. This extent is the idea of those of our people who have honestly, and earnestly tried to improve themselves.
The thirty years just passed have wrought changes that in many ways are unfortunate. They have wilted and have become less able which make it impossible for the Negro and white citizens to work together along the necessary lines for the future.
What will the next thirty years bring? We know not. But we hope they will. We hope they will desire of the common cause and race of citizen to work more thoroughly for the good of the common cause and fostered upon each other they must 'become more thoroughly accustomed with thoughts of each other and seek to foster contact where people will help us to help in the time of greatest efficiency for the places in which they live.

One Columbia man was killed in Mississippi. Two men came caught about the dreadful lynching in 1921, said Mr. Johnson. "First was the agitation on the floor of Congress, and throughout the country, for a federal anti-lynching law. This was the passing the last House of Representatives by a vote of 258 to 119. It is to be hoped that in a very few years, the crime of lynching be completely wiped out in America.

TEXAS AFRICAN METHODIST MAKE FINAL PLANS FOR THE COMING GENERAL CONFERENCE AT WACO. WHERE THE WRITER STANDS.
PAGE BIGHT
This fact gives first myself, and then my mother. Our mother we are addressing our faithfully to the task, filled with brightest hope and undisturbed confidence in the future. Our mother we are addressing our infinite justice of Him who presides over the destiny of men and nations, sets of ages and executes his purpose and devil's purpose, inspires in my breast hope or the one hand; while my faith in God, both ministerial and lay, suffers from the sacrifice of God in the same space should be given for the expression of the will divine, that combinations of worthy men in the interest of a favored few, give additional courage for battle. Our mother we are addressing our destiny today, which is the foundation of our church today, which is the foundation of our church be steered into the same troubled sea? It was clearly noticed at the end of the book that a decided swing back toward that independence of action that is quite
2. I have been twenty-five years in the breaches during which time I have been thankful to the Almighty that I have been able to leave tangible results at the church. I was thankful to Guthrie, Oklahoma. At this point we bought Oklahoma, our church (cruiser) ever owned by our population that state, bought the property adjoining the church and made a modern Metropolitan Church, Austin, Texas five years, during the time jobs of the church were paid, the church remodeled and made the most beautiful in the state at that moment, furnished the building with new and modern equipment and left one of the most memorable presentations in the state. Was pastor of Bethel, Dallas, Texas, five years, with the church. Completed the addition which had been started by a former pastor, re-established the addition.
DR. DURKEE TELLS OF PRESENT STATUS OF NEGRO AND PREDICTS FUTURE.
(Continued from page 1)
in science, "HAYNE" in these men and counters others of the race are contributed to world betrayment. "JUICE" in these men and counters others of the race are contributed to agriculture, "HAYNE" in social betrayment—these men and counters others of the race are largely to the sum total of human good.
The Nunza faces 1952 with vastly improved opportunities for national and even international revelations of inherent capabilities. Products and improvements in white thinkers for hundreds of years. They have not allowed their thinking to be exposed to the frontier of the Egreg. The race is shattering that ignorance not by producing new ideas, but by revealing the fact that the race as a whole has those inherent powers that make a nation a worthy, rated in the highest class of American universities, and hence a powerful Continent, drawn to herself this year over twenty-five hundred young men and women. They have demonstrated their ability in science, art, literature, in chart, in all the trades and professions, and in restricted immigration opened doors in the trades, bitheroe closed of only worthy achievement.
3. Among other things we may bring your attention are the following: we will be visiting the church and our own personal life and affairs so as to enjoy the confidence of all the people, regardless of race.
(2) We have served for four years on the Missionary Board at New York and on the Board of Trustees of important committees and have a practical knowledge of the work of the Deacon.
(3) We have sympathy for the work, we were the first to begin raising a bank and paying the first fifty dollars.
(4) We have traveled throughout the United States, 1921-1922, visited England, France, Spain, Portugal, French, English, and German, and have a practical knowledge of the work of missionaries.
(5) We suggested the idea to lishop H. W. Simpson Brooks, while in Africa, which resulted in the Bishop coming to finish Morningside College and dedicated himself to a practical institution on that continent for the education of the African. We came in to the church for his campaign, and traveled with him in that State when he was elected.
(6) We were endorsed for Secretary of Ministry by Annual Conference in Washington, D.C., where we have given to the record the benefit of our work we received while visiting that conference, and we have given to the record the benefit of our work we received while abroad in a series of articles which were said to be the most illuminating of the recent discussions among the Africans in Africa, submitted to some of the leading bodies of race men a plan for Negroes of America to finance Liberia and save it from the collapse of the African Union, and had favorable consideration from the Blusho Council of the National Black Assembly, and committees of two of the Great Baptist bodies. The statement for the information of those who may desire to know on what I have my request for the release of the very sincerest friend, who has been along the work better than one of another race, then the position in his. If he falls, he loses his place and the door becomes open. The thorough review of the last ten years must reveal that an unprejudiced mind the start increments of pain to abound, and human prejudices are still blighting, but the race steadily adopts a new attitude, and great great great centuries of the long past.
"The Negro face 1824 with the large, powerful character," a friend of the Negro," is dead. The Negro does not want a friend any more than does the white people. "They are not so fond of no favors. As a race be is a long way from that, yet there are more agencies than there are before. These agencies are not advertised as they need to be, but they are greater and stronger than ever, and more chronic indigestion disposes, yet the fact remains that is new air is sweeping over them and their childhood is coming up the zebras to meet us "All ya are brethren" is the word for "a man." A man a man, for a that." "Ability, training, character, and experience is bringing on the fulfillment."

They also have displayed an unwillingness to oppose him because of his family. He has done them and others in the district. The coming fight promises to be more bitter than the current contests. Congress, among voters for different candidates for office are continually asked: "Is he a Colored man?" It is believed that number of Colored candidates are going to answer the call.

There are scores and scores of prominent people who have attended the convention has a special task—but a pleasant one.
At Work: From a careful survey of the experiences, all organization, factions and groups will join hands in entertainment. CONSTANT CARE—NOT LUCK
Human history and experience have taught us that many persons believe that a head of naturally long and beautiful hair, a healthy scalp and a lovely smooth complexion come from luck, but they do not. Constant care and the frequent use of preparations of proven merit are the secrets.
