But the parcel was discovered, she said, and from their attempts at justifying their courses, it is only by argument and experiment that the truth is established. The day of armpathishing with the destroyers of institutions shows how much more true it is that we will succeed him; what new policies will be instituted under the regime of those who are to come after him? In the case of the war in Iraq, we have need of construction in the way that there will be vision enough on the part of the leaders who will take his place to see it to that the great army of Negro workers in the allied trades will be given the right to affiliate more fully with the unions thus making the lives of the workers pull harder. We will have more results more liable to success. sentiment is removed from our midst. the winner will the con- ference. There have been instances to prove to the well disposed thinkers of America that the fight of labor will lack something of full strength as long as the Negro worker is de- fended. It is to be hoped that the de- fended will be able to place a place in its community. It cannot be successfully reached by the government. The government will be an example to others where the "shock" will be applied to the employer a means of evading agreement to the terms of the Union. As a strike-breaker only, Negro labor is a handicap "quarter" be shown them, let be treated as the harmful petition. It took some time when the manager accused her of trying to steal and threatened to have her arrested. She was finally There was a situation, the like of which, often gives rise to the need to appear in certain cases. In fact, on that occasion, there were some bystanders who took the position of wrong in calling the woman to task for her action. It is often true that members of the race are often wrong in calling the woman to task by numerous cases. But often like this woman, they act in ways that are not consistent with the situation. In this case, that woman was blamable because she did not follow the rule of the stove, the basket, which was not filled so full that it could not accommodate the basket, which had been remembered it and not have allowed the clerk to discover it. It is probable that there was no intent on her part to do wrong but there was no way for the man to be careful to not do it at all times that he is careful to avoid such actions as can be found from trouble which can arise. PTTHIANS WIN INJUNCTION SUIT The Grand Lodge of Knights of Pythia has out in the outcrop some of its disgruntled members. all of Texas may well be pleased with the work for the race which the Grand Lodge is now doing is helping in so many ways that any race that would be held in time would be calamities. And, just as it is just to give full credit to the race in doing it is being calculated the covenant program which the race is making safe the homes of its members. It is the greatest amount of disclosure to those who would try to The day of sympathizing with the destroyers of institutions should be past in the race every year. It is to be hoped that the experience of the Fythan "inmar-ner" will be made to others whose sole aim in season to be to "knock." Let no "quarer" be shown there, let them be knocked down, let them which they are, and their The unusual courageousness of the message of President Coolidge, especially his reference to the Negro citizens of America has raised a storm of protest in the ranks of Southern solos who profess to see a reference to the Force Bill in it. They are mighty aroused and as usual they talk much about their absolute hatred of the bare thought of Federal supervision of the polls. The portion of the President's message which is responsible for the feeling of these solos reads thus: "I firmly believe that it is better for all concerned that they (meaning Negroes) should be protected from all of these impositions to which, from their position, they naturally fall a prey, especially the crime of lynching." For many years there has been a deep rooted fear on the part of the majority of Southerners of Negro domination if allowed the ballot as are other citizens. And the most degrading sort of tactics have been followed by them in the perpetration of what amounts to complete disfranchisement. They have emasculated the citizenship of Negroes in the South. This of course has led to the general feeling that the Negro has no rights that a white man is bound to respect. And the result is that the race is and has been the prey of those exploiters whose activities have ranged from preying upon the women of the race to the widespread dissemination of the feeling that lynching was perfectly in order so long as the victim was a Negro. And, just as "Epiphiam is joined to his idol" just so has the rank of Southern solos been assigned to the love of Negro baiting. That love will die hard. But in the course of time conditions must change in that regard and it is pleasing to think that Calvin Coolidge has the conscience and the courage to attempt to inaugurate the beginning of the change in his administration. As has been said often, such utterances by him may be no more than a sort of sage applied to the general Negro public than any other. It is not surprising being any measures which will abate the trouble which is already well known to the general country. But the fact that he has had the courage to speak out and cause the amount of argument in the ranks of Southerners which he has caused will result in the greater advertisement of the hideousness of their political dealing with a race that is the backbone of their economic system and from the greater knowledge of it may come such a great hatred of it that in time a better day will dawn to their argument. If conditions are not as they have been pictured; if there is no need for the employment of Federal force they can establish the fact. If on the other hand, there is a situation which savors of political discrimination, and the world and the nation knows that there is, and they do not desire the intervention of Federal force let them remedy the condition. They have the power and have always had it. There is no doubt but B. Y. AYCOCK is dead. After a last ten years, he has paused probably unknown; but an inspiration and fraternity mind death for so many men" who could never not met and known all hope of recovery under the fact that some of the length of his soul and were given to the Oc hadone. He woves had to staccord. In the ability as which many of them Bryan Aycock is dead. After a losing fight with death which lasted all of ten years, he has passed to his reward. To many him was probably unknown; but to those who knew him, his life was an inspiration and from the game fight which he made against death for so many years many have learned "to carry or" who could never have known its meaning he not met and known him. How he continued to live after all hope of recovery had gone was wonderful enough. But the fact that some of the best work of his life was done under the handicap of severe illness gives an idea of the strength of his soul and will. His last years were given to the Odd Fellows of Texas as treasurer and there was never a time when he made an excuse for work undone. He was always up with all of his accounts. He also was agency director of The Standard Life Insurance Company and often he was among the leaders in the amount of business written. Never sad; never groomy, it spite or the fact that every day or his existence was a battle against the Grim Reaper, he has left an exertion, and he can do more than he can be heartening to those who, with greater opportunity, greater strength, often give way to the impulse to quit when the going is hard. Though he left no towering monuments of unusual accomplishment to which the world can point and unusual accomplishment to which the world can point and by which he can be remembered, he has nevertheless left an imprint in the hearts of those who knew him, which will be more lasting than bronze and more durable than the transient things of wood and stone. He was game enough to be a champion, and he refused to quit of his own accord. In the ability to do that, he has a claim on greatness which many of the leaders of the world might envy. SAMUEL GOMPERS Labor's most famous champion and greatest leader has passed. For more than two score years his battles for the perfection of a union of laborers which could make itself felt in the determination of its own destiny, have made his name and that of organized labor symposium. He is dead. But in the years in which he worked, he has created a monument to his memory which will give him a foremost place in the history of America.
