It lows of even war, justice covers all the turbulent times. This is pretty high ground, a place to rest. Being in the press comes up and stands with us. This ground is helpful. W. B. RING
"Olive until it makes your happy" is the slogan of the Community Chant Drift which was launched for the twenty-nine social agencies of the city on the 4th of this month. That drive was honored by members of the race and through which all of the contributions of the race will be received and counted. Among the agencies which will receive benefaction, the two most important findings there are three which operate among Negroes only and others which serve Negroes along with all others in Dallas. The records of the work of the last year show that the community has made a long felt need in developing the social life of the manners of the race who, without it, would not have survived. The knowledge of living others, like the United Charities, the Duluth United Charities, the Westside Association, have ministered in a particularly beneficial way to the needs of the city.
This drive should be of peculiar interest to members of the race in the country, who will give opportunity to improve upon the record which was made upon the race last year, the contributions of Negroes to these agencies which serve them so well will far surpass it than it was in the past. And doctor last year, the appropriations for work among Negroes last year before. In other words, the members of the race gave less but received more last year than ever.
Such a condition will not be allowed to manipulate among people who do not respect the will of others, thinking loss of the unfortunate among them do not do others. Who is a racial standpoint? Now is the condition that does not because of the will of the race that he now. Now is the condition that does so much to the race of Dallah every day. Every case of Dallah is a civil duty as well as an opportunity to demolish the race so much that no one knows of the race actually have prizes in their own records for supplying that no number of the race fortunate in Dallas in no manner in a substantial way. Without it it makes us happy, and do that gives us an opportunity to be bettering our record of last year. SUPPORT THE COMMUNITY.
But there is another aspect of the question which is much more important than the consideration of the question from political angels only. Whether or not there is any definite contribution to the success of the mission, there is no doubt that there can be of the fact that the majority of the people in the country are organized fact that he is the balance of power in many of this the real need. Dallas can support such an institution pivotal state; the welfare of America is closely bound up with the attitude which the G. O. P. maintains toward this submerged group. Political expedition will pale into significance before the greater problem of saving America from herself, a task which tradition has made it impossible to prove proving to the world "of what sort the ninth man is."
Wm. Matthews has been appointed, rather tardily to the position of Assistant to the Attorney General of the United States. This is probably the largest "son" which the G. O. P. has thrown out as the result of the participation of Negroes in the election of President Coolidge. All of this true despite the fact in this campaign more than in any other case, these political maneuvering which forthright a response from the masses of the race in a manner before seen. The complaints of all of those who have declared that the Negro was without a friend at court in the G. O. P. have been well founded. Evidence points to the fact that party control of the Senate that party values rather slightly. Less offices of a large nature have been given during this administration than ever before. Less attention has been paid to the needs of the race than ever before. At least, this aspect of the queer movement has not as much to hope for from the Coolidge regime, as had been anticipated. It would seem rather that the panderin of the party to the invitation of his Klan element in several states was bearing fruit in the lessened regard for the party. It is being paid to his ability to work effectively for the party.
problem which should be aware of the attention of G. O. P. leaders that they would go actively about their task in a way calculated to get more lasting results than they now can guarantee by their policy of pondering to prejudiced elements which exist only for a season. So far, the party has done nothing at all along this line. It has contented itself with the feeble expressions on the part of its leaders regarding law enforcement and tolerance but it has moved forward with the hope of passing to pass. There can be no doubt but that Negroes everywhere are realizing the futility of a belief in the desire of
election. They desire action, not delayed soaps to their eligibility. They realize that they, as integral parts of this nation are granted to a greater share in its government than they now receive. They believe that the Republican Party is the one party which should bend its efforts toward the democratizing of America, if it is to be successful. They are hard to its old traditions. But they are no longer duped by such appointments as that of Matthews. They realize that it means next to nothing. Litt the G. O. P. bend its efforts to kennilyn licking; let its head, the President, take action in regard to segregation in the departments at attention, opposed to mob rule and the forms of segregation which are becoming a monache to the peace of these same states in which Negroes are the balance of power; then, such appointments as that of Matthews will have a more definite meaning and those to whom they are thrown will have a more definite meaning as sinners indications of a realization on the part of the party that it has a real duty to perform for America.
DALLAS' NEW CHURCHES
Dallas will probably be known soon as the "City of Beautiful Churches" if the plans of its various congregations are carried to successfully as have been done elsewhere. The congregation of St. Paul M. E. Church during recent months. The congregation of Macedonia moved into its new and edifice several weeks ago and just last Sunday the congregation of St. Paul saw the culmination of many sacrifices when their new structure was dedicated to service. These two churches to join other churches just as splendid and different only as to time of completion and denomination. All of them represent many months of struggle and many days of sacrificing toll on the part of the congregation to direct them, give room for the hope that they will be able to meet the communities in which they are located. But a consideration of the added equipment for service which the completion of these churches gives to those churches to direct them, gives room for the hope that they will be able to meet the communities in which they are beautiful and that the days to sacrificing toll which they entailed may be justified in the greater peace of soul and splendor of life. This must happen or these matters must be in need of ability of Negro congregations to accumulate will have been reared in vain. With these greater facilities for service, these churches must move forward education, children, and adults, so that they all shall be known for the size of their contribution to the welfare of the people, not only of Dallas but of Texas.
Each of these pastors and all of these memberships are due the congratulation of the general public for the way in which these structures have been reared and dedicated to the service of the church. They have provided the petition of them. They have proven their ability to sacrifices and to cooperate in things material. But their greatest duty lies in the future and it consists in service to the church. In the future, it is important that this service must be in conformity to the demands of the ability to serve which the splendid structures give.
The Moorland Branch of the Y. M. C.A. of Dallas entertained nearly seventy men at a banquet last week and a fort to make of that work a success in the city. Many of those present expressed themselves as anxious to see the time come in this city when a well equipped building served the needs of those who now are unprovided for in the city. The staff of the building at establishing a thriving branch of that work in this city were reviewed and all were agreed in their desire that this attempt result in permanent good. An interesting folder held by the staff during his pleas for co-operation with the movement. This was the Negro as "The Ninth Man" in America saying that "One out of every nine men in the United States is a Colored man. With his destiny the fate of the other is intertwined. He will fall together. What manner of man is this ninth man?"
THE DALLAS EXPRESS, DALLAS, TEXAS, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 1925
George and as a worker. In so far as these things are concerned, he is as other men. But, in thinking of the plight of this ninth man in Dallas, particularly as far as the Y. M. C. A. is concerned, there is room for the feeling that he has not been as fair to himself-as others have been to him. Time after time, those of his group have started movement only to see it die by the wayaide. And its death inexperience due to the pressure of outside influence. It has been a detached by lick of apprehension. The ject has failed to become an apprehension solely because of the lack of interest in what he causes it to grow to the size of the a real vile institution for the betterment of the man and boy life of this city.
And it is literally true that the other "eight men" at least in Dallas have been more interested in this phase of the development of "the ninth man" than he has been himself. They have made it possible for his to continue this work after his active interest had lagged. They have, in this instance, made it possible for him to make a fresh start.
