"NOT FOR MONEY, BUT FOR SERVICE" SAYS GREGG
(An Exclusive Interview)
KANASI OFF, Mo. June 12, 2013
Associated Negro Press. Just a few weeks ago, President of Howard University, Dr. William H. Gregg, with Bishop John A. Gregg of the African American church, was discussed the role of the university in life. Like the media from Howard, headed by Col. Theodore Conwell, College President of Howard University, Bishop John A. Gregg felt that he should be involved in the university's life. When I left Africa and then embarked on his new life, it felt that I might not re-enter the university, and it death would I thought I might not do so. I promised them that I would not do so, and I felt that I should keep my course at that time. I had been a student at Howard University. It is position that any university, but I have been a bishop only two years. I have been like inseparable if I should church, especially at this time. I was a bishop of Howard University, and I was president of Howard University, and I would not like to be 16 years old. I would not like to be 16 years old.
Then, Bishop Gregg illustrated this point of his feelings about duty and his word by telling an experience of his "boss-years ago."

Frankly, at that time, the $200 difference in salary had a definite appeal. But I had given my word to Bishop Hurst. The officer of my church in St. Joseph said "Take the California place, and wire Bishop Hurst." I said: "Let me think and pray over it."

For the second consecutive time, Editor J. W. Hog of The Express was invited to deliver the special address of the meeting. It's a week, delivered on Tuesday night in the auditorium of the First Deposit Church before an audience which crowded the building was devoted to a discussion of the needs of men to match our money and our tremendous markets. Beginning with commendation of the league and of the work of Editor Dunje and others who had made possible the growth of the league and congrat
The Knights of 'Tyrithas' sex's capital, and one Negro million is an organization of the race of the女人. The formation of the creation of a mass mind which would guarantee to a greater number of members of the race the courage to launch out into the creation of the business of the world is the one of the possible. Said Ha "we have enough money. It is it-hearily true that in many of the cities of every south-ern state, much of the liquid capital which goes for the creation of a position of the most important for the boys and girls of the other race is money which belongs to Negrons, money which they can neither borrow nor lend. As for markets—whenever there are men to get enough for all of the things which they need for their living necessities. But among us, the crying need is for men with which to match the money which we have to do. The capital of the country is which, as well the coming of real men with money for their development. He indicated that the time must come in which the race produced men of vision and initiative during the small-scale war of the war of the war, that the race is the first of the year. The psychology under which we now live and rear our children will never produce the type and number of men which we need. We must conscientiously change this condition in the place of a hope to arrive at the place of large and numerous business concerns.
Anотable feature of the meeting was the exhibit of the products sold by Negro merchants and trademen of Okmutgee, which had been gathered under the direction of the 107 cal committee whose president was Mr. O. Douglass, popular merchant of Okmutgee.
Mrs. Breau's director of the band of High School boys of Oklahoma City was warmly commended for her generosity in making music for all of the occasions of the meeting.

We profess to desire no earnestly. First of all, we must cease to be a race of people willing to pay the prices for our own salvation. No race can lose high in its own, entern nor in the way of the people. We are not in the which is constantly begging for the things which it can attain by its own efforts. We are not in the same way as our daughters are all well within the power of the people. We are not in the power of the others, but make up our minds that we will begin to act and cease to allow our efforts to cease to do some of the things which we have been saying for so long.
Continuing, he remarked that "whatever else may have been the most than has been a law against the combination of the two means of Negrone in the establishment of their own grocery stores, like a store and a store in the same way, like a store, like a sort. Only we have kept our progress along that line from being a man who has a good time to be held merely to it, but to the opportunities which were our and until we cease to whim and in the same way as our chances, we will always find ourselves behind the general Ameritown process. We are not in the same way as our祖先, but we should have been governed by facts and to a great extent. It is true that we have been the most than has been a law against the combination of our chances, and as the beginning of prediction does not as the end of the time, we are rooted desire to have and to achieve for the sake of the rewards to follow. This must be the same thing as to follow. This must be the same thing as to all of those other races which have been consigned to an individual. The only thing we have not again emerged."

As for the other interesting features of that meeting, The Express cannot venture to say, other than to remark that a Mascot university in Texas seems rather a, high-down notion in view of the many poor schools of the state that are not well represented in part of the general public. Support of them to the extent that is just and right would utterly do away with the 'need for another school of an indifferent sort such as one fostered by a fraternity would of necessity be. And too, men who were supposed to protect them, and their widows, would hastle to contribute to a school whose workings would be all the more hidden from them. The case of the Royal Arch of course will be heard from later. In some way, there is reason to feel that there will be recourse to the university practically abolished it as a working Mascot organization.

But never noted the white feather, neither has it been diagnosed by the yellow streak. It is not afflicted with the flannel mouth. It is a plain, every day, sensible, consecutive I've always, which trims no suit to catch the passing brecces, files no doubtful clams. It professes a galeatism as broad as our country, its love of even handed justice covers all the territory occupied by the human race. This is pretty high ground, but we live on it and are prospering. Boys of the press come up and stand with me. This ground is holy.
But taken from all angles, there is reason to feel that the reports which have gone out from the recent grand lodge of Masones indicate that the conduct of that fraternity leaves a great deal to be desired and that in time the course of the fraternity will in damage to the order which could have been, averted. This should not be allowed to happen.

that organization which is being held in Chicago this week, declared that in politics the Negro should be for "Negro and not Kikum." He also should divide parties, he should divide parties, candidates into friends and enemies only. He laid stress on the need for the Negro to magma his ballots for him many of the civic and political benefits which he has been content in past times to be beg only.

There is merit in this expression. More merit than our leadership are willing to adhere to. The Express in common with many other individuals of the state of Texas rather wonders just what the public mind of this section lacks of being equal to that of the citi- ties of Oklahoma in the matter of keeping alive and main- taining a real virile business league. In Oklahoma there is a real live one. The state convention has just closed and more than a hundred delegates from all parts of that state have gone to their homes filled with new ideas and a new platform. The Negro is the most active and those ideas are being spread by the business league. A canvass of at least twenty-five cars will go to Cleveland from Oklahoma bearing delegates and a whole band to advertise the state. And it is a well known fact that Negro business are willing to ad- dhere to. The National Negro Business League and that is raising a fund of more than $7,000 for its entertainment.
There is merit in this expression. More merit than our loadings on the need to be a citizen. It pits the way to a new day in Neourean political life — the need to be a citizen.
Texas is larger than Oklahoma, it boasts more greatly day in Negro political life in America if followed and it would of its tremendous resources and of its riches. And yet, Texas is well behind this smaller and poorer state in the

The Hooker Trust Company and The Security Life Insurance Company are protegees of "the 'Oklahoma Leanner-Texas' has no league to mention and of course no protegee. Why?
It is true that Oklahoma has spirit—which Texas lacks? Is it true that Oklahoma has a leadership which Texas could well afford to develop? Certainly some of these things at least, must be true for Texas is lagging in the matter of the development of its business opportunities.

Again the Masonic bodies of the state have met, and again the delegates have come together, felt the influence of a "mailed flat under a velvet glove" and have gone back to their homes more dissatisfied than ever at the turn of the affairs of that order. A few of them attempted to discuss the interest on the hundreds of thousands which that order collects and disburses each year, but they were as unsuccessful as in former years. It is reported that in this instance the refusal of the Grand Master to allow free discussion of the question was the signal for some irony and saintly which was not to be expected in such a gathering. The project for a great Masonic University was defeated.

Few, if any of those who are members of the Order, are ignorant of the generally accepted practice of interest on daily balances of the larger sort, and it will be well might impossible to convince any of them that it is impossible for the order to benefit from such an arrangement. Some will insist that and declare that interest is being paid on the money of the order and that individuals are reaping the benefits from such an arrangement. And, while the making of such statements will not, in itself mean much, it will have the effect of impairing the reputation of the officials of the order in many ways and this will not be highly beneficial to them. Such mutual willings will in time bring the order into effect. It is not the duty of the order, which, by right of the character of its make-up, it should maintain inviolate. TRANSMITTING, RECORDS
ONE of the things that makes radio work so fascinating is the continuous revolution of new airங்கu-ing and airborne systems. It is obtained by the recent development of short wave transmission here almost unbelievable, and some of the results being obtained to just how he of believe. For instance, there are the records made by an amateur radio operator in Ohio. Hearing of the control group that were being obtained with low powered short wave transmitters, he rigged up such a set using one LV2014 table with one of the other supply items. It was made by an expert when he received reports of his signals from all over the United States from New Zealand and from Australia. Not being satisfied with these records, the same operator installed one LV199 Radiotron in his transmission in the 1990s. With the LV199 type 70's volts of B battery signals of good strength were reported from practically the same distances as the other two in the weight and ten thousand miles transmission on a single LV199-tube.
When you hear of results like there is it any wonder that an-utilization is over for some so much local interference?

Perhaps, and if they be stated with certainty, his fame was won when he played "his part so well as the Emperor Jones" in the play of the same name although he had an appeared more or less frequently in other plays. Probably it was as Custis in "Abraham Lincoln" that this great actor began to make his way upward.
When he was whether he had been trained for the stage, Mr. Gilliam, smilingly, remarked that he was a printer and has had experience in newspaper work, which experience is added had been of some significance.
He has had many wonderful contacts with the leading actors of this country and of the Continent, and has had some strong parts in several stellar attractions.

As for pipes, the long-stemmed kind are preferable to the short-stemmed, because when the smoke passes through the smoke is cool and the smoke is deported along the lining of the stem in the short-stemmed pipe, the smoke is still hot when it enters the mouth, and all the volatile substances are inhaled.

DEHART HUBBARD
EQUALS WORLD
RECORD
Cincinnati, Ohio, June 25—12 there was any doubt that Belfast Hubbard, crack athlete of the Century Athletic Club and prize scholar and athlete of the Cincinnati Enquirer (white) is the idol of Cincinnati. It was dispelled last Saturday night when the great freeze of the freeze was winning. The 100-yard dash, equaled the world's record of nine and six-lenthe seconds. Shortly thereafter Hubbard amazed the spectators by jumping 25 feet 3 7-inches in the running broad jump event, moving in all 10 points for the first time just in the new. That's the problem to try to be fair in guiding the muscular frames of Negro athletic performers, no less notable critic than Big-Hull Powers (white) one of the great, at athletic critics of all times, said of Hubbard, "after the meet- easy- grilling man." "In the new building, it was as a gentle breeze, the famous Negro star-ossued spectators at the annual track and field meet conducted by the Cincinnati Gym and Athletic Club, at its grounds in the East End, to grasp as he led Tom Shuley on americalzeal. I think the track-star, the top-in-the-century day by six feet and equaled the world's dash-second of 0-10 seconds.

A previous installment of this story related many incidents of the early life of a girl who was painted a violet picture of her childhood, her kindredhood with its attendant family, and her character and revealed those aspects of the world she lived in. How Manic transformed the ugly duckling, Selena, into a beautiful, beautiful type of young girl, and how her social life at a time of unselfish friendship that will longer bind with those who were her friends.

THE DALLAS EXPRESS, DALLAS, TEXAS, AUSTRALY, JUNE 26, 1926
It is not the purpose of the writer to create extensive eulogies of the happiness of Mamie and her husband. It is not fitting that I paint w'halo about their heads and characterise their domestic life as being "one long uninterrupted dream of bliss and contentment." At best they were human. They may have had little petty quarrels. Most couples do. But I am sincerely truthful when I say that both Mamie and her husband are the same.
I appreciate in that they thoroughly understand one another and were sympathetic with their respective hopes and ideals. As Madame Hightower told me herself and certainly she is the one to judge: "Zack has always been a faithful/loving husband. He has been kind and considerate. He has helped me in my work. I am exceedingly grateful that fortune chose such a man for me." What greater tribute need come from God, I hope. What life, "All those things that go to make me husband, may be justly proud of such words prompted by the affection of a loving wife. Mamie was truly "queen of all she surveyed." A happy home... good husband... family... friends... all those things that go to make life worth living. Mamie was rich indeed. And yet with it all there was an inexplicable something lurking within the depths of Mamie's great heart... It seemed to her that she heard some faraway voice calling.
The Still Small Voice That Called to Mamie
One evening at the happy couple sat quietly together Mamie met her mother, who quickly listened to her in her as she endeavored to explain the mysterious upset. After considerable discussion, she delicately the line that the fawning voice of Voice of Our Group calling her to her rightful position and place. The aftermath of this meeting was Kaeep perceived Mamie that she must continue her developments in chemistry and that she must spend the benefits of her success. Zack's ear in the matter and his siliconity of purpose impressed Mamie long after midnight when Mamie met her mother, who was the scope of her activities and devote considerable time to the creation of her urgent need of Our Group.

And she was also a woman who this month woman chelars far more than fame and riches.

When it was all over, all his dreams of his childhood had come true in wonderful measure, he said, "It was not you that sent me hither, but God." As for you, he intended evil against me, but God meant it, unto-good." Let it ever be understood, that disappointment and persecutions, may not frustrate God's plans, but actually further them. The brothers who had cast him in the well, the governor's wife who lied on him, and thought to take his life were so many stepping stones in the unfalling purpose of God. This is a great lesson for all ages but it is especially suited to youth who are prepared to take an average of life than temptations of life than those who have had larger experience. Every boy and girl should think often of the life of Joseph—especially when everything seems to go wrong. When it seems that the world, places no special value or honesty, morality and high purpose —perpetit in them and some say you will come into your own

The event was a large attendance and an improvement in its instructions, as being high points of this new event. It is said to be the most known as the Sunday School Congress. At eleven o'clock Dr. Winn brought his courageous speech to the meeting. The meeting completely lifted them in their manner of thinking and living. The subject of the details of the party was that the party was the largest delegation, headed by the pastor motored to Dallas, Texas and Washington.
