WALLICK, Y-5887 MEMBER NATIONAL NESRO PRESS ASSOCIATION. Entered at Post Office at Dai-lan, Terax, an second-class matter, under Act of Congress, March 1879 point of technique or not is quite beside the point here. Of course there have been those of the critics who have called it good and those who have roundly "cussed" it. But the fact that ever so often we get excited and all "warmed up" over being called the name which is so commonly used by the critics is not the reason that the different strata of our society are not the those of any other group must give room for some very interesting thinking on the part of those, who, whether emotionally or emotionally, witness our anties. There are few of us who do not use the term "nigger", though we present its use by any person outside of the race, with as much gusto as an Italian resents the term "wop", or the Polock does the term "humble". Two years ago, there were two groups because of its constant recurrence in headlines and the ease with which it lent itself to corruption into the much hated "nigger". But. The Express even at that time took the position that any other name accompanied by the same sort of thinking and linked with the same sort of associations, would, in time, become as obnoxious. And it must be remembered that any author has the right to give the name which seems to him to be the most fictional. But the subject should be that the subject matter and form of presentation are true to life and that they are typical. Criticism directed from such an angle would seem to be provocative of much more effect than ineffectually ruling at a name only. (This latest statement comes because few, if any, of the criticisms have been directed mainly at the subject matter.) This author has given the name to the more fictional characters he more fortifies its more fortunate aspects and has cartoons his characters. His intellectuals are really so, his middle characters are given a rather more human sides than those of some of the members of the race themselves and his members of the "lower strata" have all of the points commonly seen among such folks even by ourselves. What is wrong with that? The time has come when members of this race, like those of any other race must learn that they race with the others. The more fortifies the pictures and that in the ensemble, their race is no more likely to appear in the most promising light than any other race. If there are contacts between intellectuals and members of the under world and writers of the other race witness these contacts, and they do, they must expect that these contracts, where they seem striking enough, will be pictured as they appear. In short, the time has come when the country also takes seriously such treatment as we also will give when our authors have arrived at the point, as a class, of being able to make their impressions of the white world permanent in hooks which they write. And in this connection it must not be forgotten that the world has a way of classing its literary material which allows us to see that the world is a real literature has a permanence which is deserving. The most notable manifestation of this unstoppable way by attempting the conscription of Negroes improvement. This editorial, marked and sent to the authorities at the City Hall has brought points in the form of street machinery which is digging out the earth and which will be used with this material which will materially improve it for the transmountable traffic which it bears. This speedy compliance with the rules of the city gives reason to congratulate Dallas for having such an executive that they are of the same type, as will carry out its election as an officer in a like manner. And in this case it is especially to be relied upon because of no cost to the property holder, is the case in a regular paying program. It also proves that the city may be due more to our lack in special sections of this city may be due more to our lack in the provision for congressional and themselves from a lack of disposition to grant them on the part of the city committee. Such actions as the improvement of this street comprises the need for congressional and themselves choices of officials and satisfaction in Daily life in a city which is in the grip of crime of every citizen is of prime importance. THE DALLAS EXPRESS, DALLAS, TEXAS, SATURDAY, OCTOBER 0, 1926 Radio Topics The Road To Better Health ```markdown ``` Car; Vin Vechten's new book "Nigger Heaven" has given reason for another of our fits of wrath because of the application of the "opprobious" epithet "nigger" to the race and the majority of our intellectuals are getting the "wool off their chests" together with their proverbial shirts over the matter. It would appear on the face of the thing that this enterprising young white man, already having done a book or two which was promising and having had opportunity to meet and to form some sorts of contacts with the writing members of the race at least, has taken the material gathered from these contacts and woven them into a book in description of Harlem society which to him, through Ruby, one of the characters of the play, she, by the way is a little brownskinned demi-monde, is "Nigger Heaven."
