There can be no doubt that our security service to the more vulnerable members of the civilian community and the chief of the procedure, states assert, fails to control their loyalties and the arrangement of this conference and that if it contacts these extremists, state governments to protect the civilization of the country seems a necessity. It is with such things in mind that The Express calls the attention of this Texas joint effort to the duty in the case which is now under way to come as a result of a meeting in direct line with the whole duty in the matter of punishment of these murders.
Business Tense and that it but a part of the new policy which, consistently followed, will result in the complete revocation of Negro business in this conference.

NEW YORK CITY
CITY OF NEW YORK
1927
The unexpected has happened. The leader of a mob which lynched a Negro in Georgia has been sentenced to life imprisonment and four others of the mob have been given bernies for the crime. The judge has instructed that the members of the mob surrendered and confessed.
The judge in passing sentence upon these mob members stated that; "lynching is a menace to the rights and liberties of the American individual and should be regarded as an American crime in that United States it is as much out of place in our modern civilization as would be the burning of witches. When a community makes public the fact that it will bind every effort to apprehend lynchers with no loss of time and mute out punishment to them there will be few cases of lynching, in that con
This is certainly the unusual. It has, been generally thought that there would have to come something in the nature of a cynicism before any member of a mob in Georgia could be apprehended much less sentenced for participation in the war. It has also made the most direct statement concerning lynching that has ever come from a judge in any state of the union. It took courage for this jurist to do this. The general public sentiment in the state which he lives does not agree with this stand. But there can be no doubt but that there will be others to follow in his footsteps now that he has set his sights on him. He will not be a person who does not agree that he has set a precedent. Georgia has shown the way to stop lynching to all of the rest of the southern states by the decision of this jurist to do his plain duty in a case which vans nothing more or less than plain murder. It is only to be hoped that others may follow in his footsteps and that in time to come sentences may become the rule rather than the exception in such cases of murder.
AN OPPORTUNITY TO DISCOURAGE LYNCHING IN TEXAS
The case of the lyching of the three Negroes in Fort Benaffin County of this state, the state of Louisiana, of its kind where the constitution of the American public in many years, give opportunity, for the complete discouragement of lyching in Texas if the jurist in charge of the case can but see his vay clear to do his whole duty. Here is a case in which plain and simple murder has been committed and it is generally understood that the complete identification of the guilty man who had so far forgotten their duty to the law as to take it into their own hands and, under circumstances as savage and as brutal as any which characterized the Indians of the pioneer days in this country shot and injured three members of a common society. Suspects have been arrested, it is true. But that will not surface. They should be tried without sentiment. The evidence of the penalty for their dead. Such a course would only follow the dictates of simple justice.
And nothing short of that must be done if the reputation of this state as a law abiding unit is to be upheld. Lynchings have increased this year and Texas has contributed several to the already large number of lychings that have been determined to belong to the world that they possessed none of the spirit which would make them attempt to maintain the record of decreased lychings which has characterized the past three years. It
would appear that they had rather determined to show to the world that the lynching spirit was still in existence in quantities larger and more virulent than over before. That lynching spirit was a vigorous measure, much as the giving of a死 death sentences and several life terms. Will this Texas jurist have the courage to do it? The fact is that Federal laws against lynching will be found absolutely necessary should it happen that the practice of passing over each lighten-

Atlanta, Ga. 02, Nov. 27 — The invincible Howard Bison, still recalling after their successful invasion of the West last Saturday, they were able to win the game against the sampled Atlanta University understaff, 7-0, before a colorful crowd of about 2,000 in a thrill-packed contest which added to the fame of Coach Bison and the success of the Atlanta, La.Marr, Sunshine, Collegue, Clay and Sharp.
