Certainly these comments do not go beyond the general frequency and in an ever widening circle of publications leads to the thought that the intent behind them, is of the best and that they appear with unusual frequency and in an ever widening circle of publications leads to the thought that the entent behind them, is of the best and that it argues for a continuation of the amicable relationship which this committee is slowly but with our notice of these comments there is no notice of corresponding study of their own conditions by Negroes to the end that when their needs come up for careful scrutiny there will be definite knowledge on their own part of what they really are and of how these conditions may be changed. There are no forums, no discussion groups, no meetings, no conferences, no race as such and it is probable that in many instances, members of the white race have more definite information concerning the actual status of Negroes than have Negroes themselves. And this condition has not been noted as in existence among the masses alone. The leaders of the race resent any in no location to themselves than own library membership committee affords and more than once it has happened that the group was decidedly at a disadvantage when the discussion of some problem peculiarly their own in progress. They had not read even their own papers. They displayed none of the initiative which such conferences should call forth and on their part there was none of the intelligent cooperation such a group had been expected to have. It is that the only thing about such participation by Negroes themselves. When they are called on to lead discussions of various subjects, instead of attempting to go to the heart of the matter in hand they content themselves with a mumbling mention of the conditions as they may have been observed and fill up the remainder of the time with feeble attempts at understanding the conditions. It is a means founded in fact. It is literally true that in the majority of cases members of such committees hate read no Negro literature and are not in possession of even a book of facts such as the Negro Year Book. Such a condition does not argue strongly for the desire for improvement such as is to be told of by the average member of the race. The existence of such a condition does not mean that the committee or the other members to make productive of much good however hard they try. It appears to The Express that the time has come for Negroes to begin in an intelligent way to study their own problems as such and to begin to place themselves in position to know the actual conditions existing about the problems which come up for discussion. In no way other than by increased study can this be done. Dec. 25—The Dunbar Panthers lost the State High School Title for 1056 football by the close margin of 15 to 12 here Friday afternoon, losing the game to the Booker Washington School of Dallas in the last five minutes of the game. Dunbar had led the Dallas Bull Dogs 12 to nothing through three quarters and half of the last quarter. Then two lightning-like passes ran up 12 points, and enabled the visitors to nose out and win the state championship.
