ACCORDING TO STATISTICS just released by the president of The National Association of Teachers in Colored Schools, the total number of state accredited high schools for Negro children in the sixteen states of the south totals only 205 and of this number 71 are private schools. No Negro high schools are listed for the states of Alabama and South Carolina, only 3 are listed in Arkansas, 2 in Florida, 3 in Georgia, 3 in Louisiana, and 7 in Mississippi. Other states have from 8 to 25, the largest number. North Carolina leads with this large number followed by Texas with 15. Other states having a fair number are Maryland with 10 and Tennessee with 12. The total number of white high schools in this same group of states is 5140. The total Negro population for these states is given as 12,42,500. And it is well worth while to note that in Alabama which has no Negro high schools, there are 285 high schools for white children.

The comment of President Robinson on this condition is to the effect that the absence of the provision for the adequate training of Negro children constitutes an unbound governmental policy for the reason that though the expenditures for education are low, the disease, death and criminal rate of this ignorant mass of citizens causes the expenditure of far greater sums for punitive purposes and at the same time robs the communities of the contribution of these people to the general welfare. Say he, "Such a public educational policy is inevitably creating in the South a vast, defenseless, exploitable group; a social cess pool of ignorance, disease and crime and social problems of all kinds. Such a group is a tremendous liability to the South socially and economically, raising the unfavorable statistics and lowering the per capital wealth, both because they do not either produce or consume as they would if given more favorable opportunities for efficient training and further because such a group is a constant drain upon the funds of the state for punitive and corrective measures and the object of public welfare and charity programs."

There can be no doubt of the correctness of the conclusions reached by President Robinson and one of the remedies for this condition lies in the willingness of trained NEO teachers to so organize themselves as to be in position to deal with it. It was composed of the heads of the various secret order heads who had banded themselves together for the purpose of seeking to improve conditions among their people by means of the contacts which they made in the carrying on of their various enterprises. On the last occasion of their meeting, a committee was appointed for the purpose of investigating the conditions of the traveling conditions for Negroes on public carriages. Since that meeting nothing has been heard from the committee and it now appears that the congress itself is not functioning as regularly as it did.

There may be those who will criticize the erection of such structures from an economic standpoint. There are poor investments for the funds at these orders, but there can be questioning of their adjournance for the ability of the team to compete in large娶娶 events, and evidence of well being and, too, from a sentimental standpoint, there is passion for the creation of the Negro a confidence in his own ability to achieve largely, a

sentiment of the majority of southern states is in the direction of an improved condition and in many instances it is literally true that the lack of vision and intelligent aggression of the poor is a greater extent than for the lack of facilities to a greater extent than is now true. Then too, the general sentiment of the south is just now coming to the point of realizing that an ignorant minority can just as surely, pull down the status of a more fortunate majority, as that majority can raise it. various sorts have been obtained for Negroes on the strength of the argument that the lack of them constituted a menace to the majority. And that is literally true. Poor schools cannot equip any group for satisfactory entrance into any sort of progressive social or civic units. Lack of health knowledge leads to increased disease on the part of all groups because of the fact that contacts are incapable. A status just above that of complete illiteracy means that Negroes will have little control can control only by punitive and corrective means. Just the reverse is true with a reversed condition. It is for Negro teachers to realize that these arguments will have weight when presented as the result of the combined study of the teachers of a given section. Organization will give weight to the arguments. And the continued weakness of Negro teachers state associations and the resulting weakness of the National Negro teachers association is in itself a result of the lack of knowledge and welfare of the race must be manifested by Negro teachers themselves. Leading white thinkers of the south are waiting for such effort as alive and intelligent Negro thinkers can give in matters like these.

She is a strong resemblance of the five-year-old girl, who is shown standing behind the alter in the image. Neither she nor Miss Noether to imagine they might be one and the same-person. Even if they are not, she also they have two things in common: redeeming the image.

Mrs. Nielsen now that the historical facts are becoming known, Bella Mertz, who was a girl with the nickname of "Pinky" because of her pink rich cheeks. The photograph of Pamille Virginia Caskeney, V. C. Lawrences also was light. Like the more famous, "pinky," Life "Pinky," Pamille dropped from public sight after her redemption, but not unlike "Pinky," she has anyway abons from a mystery. She is a member of the Negro community of New Orleans from quite New England front to the south in the Indian Village, before she became some quiet timonions! Who can say Miss Nielsen.

DALLAS BLACK GIAATS WIN THREE STRAIGHTS
FROM OKLAHOMA SPOILERS
DALLAS BLACK GIAATS WIN THREE STRAIGHTS
FROM OKLAHOMA SPOILERS
The Black Giants and the Oklahoma Spoilers tied up in a long drawn out battle Sunday at River Side Park for 15 innings to a score of 4 to 3.
After the third inning there wasn't a single man to catch a pitch, but both innings with 11 innings on both clubs kept the fans quite all the evening as it would a hard thing to get a hit. Both pitchers pitched a good game mastering their curve and speed balls. Oklahoma knocked Sneed from the mounds in the 7th, when he was relieved by hook em Gray, who held the visitors to a stand still.
Both teams were trying to end the game each inning by trying to score Alexander over run second on a foul ball and on the recover was out. Moore was sent in to bat for the spotters in the 9th and landed a two-bagger. The out-field of both clubs had plenty to do as everybody pitched the ball and to place hits that would count. Only hits in the entire game by both clubs with only 2 errors.

EYES that have seen the drama of a lifetime surge and ebb. Eyes that have grown dim with watching and waiting; with laughter and with grieving. Eyes that have yearned with tender care over the oncoming generations and then have seen themselves pushed with gentle ruthlessness aside.
And now they dwell apart, though not alone, in a world peopleled with memories, and listen for the rustle of the pages that bring them their only contact with the ceaseless flow of human endeavor and aspiration and passion; of triumph and disaster about them.
What tragedy when that last link with life is broken! When the one last window grows cloudy and dim.
"I thought," said one glentle, trembling voice, "that I would have to give up reading altogether, and then this new vision came——"
