STANDARD LIFE-THE NATIONAL BENEFIT-MR. RODDY'S STATEMENT AND THE EXPRESS' CONTENTION
STANDARD LIFE-THE NATIONAL BENEFIT-MR. RODDY'S STATEMENT AND THE EXPRESS' CONTENTION
THE EDITORIAL OF THE EXPRESS last week concerning the National Benefit Life purchase of the Impaired Standard Life business insurance by the Express, hold the burden of carrying for the reemergent sum of $1,800,003. 66, the amount of the reserves found missing when the sale was made has argued the criticism of Hon. Best M. Roddy, who made the claim, that the reserves are probably in good place. And they would serve as incontrovertible proof of the falsity of the position of the Express had the claim made. But it happens that he argues beside the point raised by the Express in its editorial of last week. The National Benefit Life was responsible for the impairment of Standard Life reserves. It did not contend that the National Benefit would not discharge such obligations as it has assumed. It did not contend that the insurance company should be held responsible for that. IN CARRIER OF WOIDED COMMUNICATIONS SIGNED OFFICIALS OF THE BEFETT LIFE AND SENT TO THE POLICY-OFICIALS OF STANDARD LIFE, that COMPANY GAVE NO WAY TO THE EXPRESS TO THEIR DEPARTMENT. THAT AN IMPARMENT OF more than 60 per cent of the reserves of Standard Life EXISTED AND THAT SUCH AN ACTION CONTAINED IN THE EXPRESS CONTENDED THAT IT FOULD HAVE BEEN BETTER FOR THE NATIONAL BENEFIT LIFE TO HAVE ALLOWED STANDARD TO HAVE GONE TO THE DOOM THAN TO BE HELPED BY THE EXPRESS TO BREAK THE TREAT OF THE LOVELY NEGRO PUBLIC. In making such observations as it has made, the Express has made by the Express the public to be aware of the seriousness of the statements as to the safety of old line legal reserve companies as by the statements made in regard to them by the agents of the companies of Standard Life, and to the assurance of the insurance companies as much out of pride in the attempts of members of their race to build large concerns as for the actual insurance. And it is to be noted that the Express has been in the effect that "they can't fall." In short, the public has trusted those who led them into such investments and the

League Executive Discusses S. L. N. B. Situation
Hon. Bert M. Roddy, vice president at large of the Negro Business League and in charge of the organizational structure of that organization, stopped over in Dallas last week an route to St. Louis, where he will complete preparation for the coming season of the league. While in conference with several of the leading businesses more than a decade ago, he pursued mission to discuss the present status of the Standard Life sale to the Benefit Company and Washington, D.C., to answer some of the criticism which is now being launched at that organization by disaffiliated policy-budget whose names he hopes larger than the original statements of National Benefit LLC Officials
His statements were in brief as follows: That The National Benefit Fund does not have the responsibility nor did that institution contribute to the impairment of the reserves set up for the protection of the college white whitenoise. He believes that the policy holders are just as safe now as they were in the past. He believes that the legal reserve life insurance companies are under the supervision of the legal reserve departments and that the insurance departments of Georgia and Mississippi could be given to the public in which the policyholders are being called on to assume and be responsible for the maintenance of National Benefit Life should be made without knowing and setting forth the facts.

There will be those of the older group who will see no merit whatsoever in the recently published statements of Chandler Owen on the National Negro Business League to the effect that that organization stands badly in need of change and reformation. They will probably declare it the meaninglessness with the "inspirational" policy of the past years. Or, those who do not do that will point to the program as outlined at Cleveland and decide that he knew little about what he said.
Those who have followed the fortunes of that organization for the past few years must agree with Mr. Owen, there are many changes which could be made in that organization. He says that it will be when he contends that it will fail of its greatest "good long as it offers nothing to those who belong to it beside a chance to puff themselves and to tell of how they "rose from the ranks." And The Express feels that that has been made this year in the employment of Mr. Roddy to visit and to organize local branches of the league in the various parts of the country. It is estimated that he has visited more than one hundred cities and organized branches in them. And he has done it on the basis of a promise that the offer would be made to him. He has worked with a workable program which will result in good for the local membership.

SAM HUSTON STADIUM
...晏斯曼 Minton College...
Movement for Sam Hunt Athletic field is now taking definite steps to improve the greatest forward looking program of the College has ever faced:
The Athletic Field is one-factor in a series of great projects. Athletic Field therefore, promises the greatest possible progress for all athletic and -recreative work. No one is now able to forecast the future of the Athletic Field aside from the facilities afforded for football and baseball it is clear however that the future carries with it more success than we have ever realized.
The general conception of a stadium is that it is 'just' a structure setting thousands of people for football and an important factor, provision is made in this case for many other activities, which may be included by the College City Athletics groups throughout the State.

Beauty and Culture
is one of the greatest designs of humanity. It is the masterpiece of God's perfection and the glory of mankind.
E. J. CRAWFORD.
It is a human instinct to desire beauty, both as a possession for oneself and a grace to be admired in another. An African Princess ruled in a land where they did not have mirrors, from children to women. All the women that she had often listened for honra at them fell just how she looked, and she often wished she might see herself. A Jewish pederber one into her country selling in all the markets she had heard that he was selling something in which she could see herself, she at once sent for one, and when and looked in it she saw that she was not alone. She was in her room—so great was her disappointment, that she smiled the looking-glass, and ordered that not one should be left
Had she been in position to turn herself over to one of our modern beauty-cultures, in six month time she would have been a model. But she had not. It has been fittingly said: "True beauty is beauty of soul." a beautiful completion appeals delightfully to the eusthetic beauty of humanity, and of the skin. St. Paul says: "If a woman has been spent annually by our race group for beauty preparations are not a bad investment, care should be taken, to give these vast sums with institutions owned by the race.

She was a woman as sensual as her husband to her child, and her love-hearing between life and death for six days. On the seventh day she died and her body was buried at Battice. Battice was immediately placed under arrest and confined in the ship's hold. But on two occasions at Montréal, Labrador, West Coast Afric, a new cook was hired. He was Colo, a native of the French West Africa, the new cook was mystifying, wearing a blanket made of human hair and carrying a mask pertaining to wood-dust.

"She is not and never was my wife. I have never referred, but I have never agreed to any agreement between us to become husband and wife. This suit is not a mistake. The wants me to pay money to hide the fact that I know her.
An alibeg affidavit signed by Ms. Timothy folly the following statement:
"I was never married to Curtis. I was no shim on him. His coat was missing. I had not trained a home for me in Prescott. Additional proof submitted to the court. I show that Mr. Brews admitted being supported by a Colored man."
Mrs. Brown says she has lived with Curtis for seventeen years.
