Mobile, Al. Sept. 15 — (ANP) “King” William Carpenter, and the then-CEO of the company Voodoo experts of no small renown, is investigating the death of a 72-year-old man who was engaged in the evil act of exorcising evil spirit which the “conspiracy theorist” profiled on a woman who was charged to a stake in the house search.
Five elderly men are in jail awaiting hearing on technical charge, and the will not be able to be able to be a license, as the result of a raid staged several days ago when the deputies searched the house for liabilities. One of the first things was William Carpenter, 76, whom officers recognized as a man indicted two years ago for practicing medicine without a license. A new discovery, and regarded as important, was that of a strong stake to which was attached a trace chain bearing a stout and a very good name. The, and the other "doctor" in the house, had secured a woman while the "high prophets" attempted to die. She had a spirit of a very good sense. She had been chained there, the deputies were told until the high prophets became starred and released, and turned her over to her brother.
Membership of the colony, except for Carpenter and his chief prophesies and their knowledge, was the only of the girls who were convinced that Carpenter and his aides, in a lesser degree, were endowed with super-natural power. The group had not all been eligible but waited in the exclusion of the house for the "angles" to bring in the sufferers. Not only one death but a number of children were born. One of them were a feudism is a, repellent looking fluid shaded green which appeared to be highly efficient.

Texans voted, assasinately and wore highly optimistic as to, the chances of securing the convention, but indianapolis, the only other city to hold the convention in the 1928 convention.
The customary internal voting practice is by secret ballot, but to the district of the Texas delegate, the convention stands and vote upon this matter, with the result that many votes plied to Dallas were lost. It one thing to slip a vote over for a friend, and quite another to be locked in by the Administration.

More than 10,000 Elks, with some 30 handbags, gathered in a parade which wined its way through the main street of New York, down the street of downs of rain, which drained the preachers and the spectator—the parade coorbidities and the particulature in water-saturated uniforms. The streets were lined with thousands of paraders and the officials as they passed. The rain failed also to dampen the parade was a distinct feature and attracted the attention of those doused within the conventions itself. Here reports of officers and paraders would grow more rapidly and at the same time render a greater service to a larger number of wives.

THE SPIRIT OF DALLAS
Somewhere in the vast expanse of the broad Pacific, Capt. Bill Irwin and his pilot in the Spirit of Dallas; bound on an arrand of mercy, went into a full sail and hoped to have for their rescue - has been abandoned; memorial services for the a splendid memorial on the Pacific coast have been held and now plans are under way for the seclusion of a splendid memorial on the Pacific coast that have of them live will appear as foolish and vain. and doubtless there will be those who think of the mission. And in fact they are consuming ambitions which master progressive men and drive their successes on a quest of a chosen goal, such persons in we will feel that it is a foolish pursuit of a phantom mission, and attainable they will argue that it is better to be safe than worry and they will feel justified in teaching their lives.
WHEN, IF NOT NOW?
MEMBERS OF OUR group in Texas are faced with certain situations which even now are proving unfortunate and which in time to come, bid fair to offer handcaps and hardships to those who are seeking a fuller measure of citizenship than they now enjoy. Chief among these situations and circumstances is that of the free use of the ballot. Next in importance is the inequality of appropriation for Negro education. And of equal importance though not so clearly seen now are the two acts of the recent legislature enabling cities to enforce zoning laws and to create ghetto districts in which all Negroes may be confined. It is on the basis of this latest enactment that the City of Dallas now finds itself in a quandary in regard to the enforcement of very rigid enactments concerning white and Negro districts.
There can be no doubt but that the will come, if it is not already at hand, when Negroes will see in such means as these very definite handicaps to their progress as free and untrammeled citizens; and in such enactments and practices they will find definite bars to full and free contribution to the civic units of which they are a part. Even in prospect these circumstances and situations should appear as dangerous to such a point that already definite steps would have been taken to change them and to remove the danger of their effects from the pathway of those who are to come in after years. There can be no doubt but that they must be removed. It would seem n't act of wisdom to begin now to work against them and if work against them is not begun now, when should it begin?
It is literally true that the sin of silence often forges more strongly the chains that bind and hinder. It is also true that the gets done at the dictates of prejudice are being slowly overcome, and at the expense of much trouble; and results are seen after the lapse of much time. More than a few months was required to settle the Democratic primary case, and no sooner had a favorable judgment been rendered by the Supreme Court of the United States than the Texas Legislature at once began to frame another measure; different in tone but with the same intent, and now before full and free participation in politics is possible to members of the group, test cases must be made of this new ruling and the expense of defeat in all the local courts must be gone through and the Supreme Court finally approached. All of such struggles will take time and money; they will require a stoutness of heart which cannot now be said to be a part of the make-up of the ordinary member of our group. It would seem them, naturally that we would decide now to bestir ourselves, we Texans, and to move steadily in a sensible yet intelligently aggressive way against these evils which we recognize as handicaps. If not now, when should we start? Until we start we cannot end. The future becomes present with every day and with the coming of every day there is a postponement of the hopes of yesterday, for the day which was not born. Now is the appointed time; upon us is the responsibility. We will be remiss in our duties to the generations which are to come after us if we are found hesitant and unwilling to assume and discharge these responsibilities to ourselves and our
POLITICS AND TEXANS
NOW THAT ANOTHER Presidential Campaign looms in the near future and political forces are stirring themselves in all quarters of America, preparing for the test of strength in the selection of a new chief executive; it is natural that Texas and Texas should cast about, look over the political field, and see if it in this campaign there is not opportunity to try again to retrieve their fortunes and recover their lost position. Republican politics in Texas has reached a stale-mate which does not go forward, it is not progress, it is lily-white and it has reached the end of its resources. It would seem then that a contest among Republicans for the nomination might offer chance for Texas

PRESIDENT DOGAN ANNOUNCES PERSONNEL CHANGES IN FACULTY FOR 1927 SESSION
President Dupas of Wilcox College announces the following change: Mr. Dupas will be the first and only game to be unanimously large and enthralling. The coming season: A master of classes from Cornell as head of department of Biology, a Master of Science from University of Indiana, and a Master of Science from Radcliffe to head department of Romance Languages, and still another Master of Arts from Columbia for the Department of Education. Austin, Texas, Sept. 2—President T. B. Davis of Samuel Huston has enthusiastically disclosed the fact that he is strongly drawn toward athletics. Whether it will happen or not will depend wholly upon the type of political mind which has been generated during all these years of political inactivity. But the time is ripe; another opportunity is now surely coming to hand. We lost after the San Antonio Convention; the Black and Tan attempt was a flasco; the last contest at Cleveland was lost, but every new occasion brings another opportunity for success and only those who within their souls are quitters are content to stop short of anything but victory. Let's get back to politics.
ANOTHER INTENTION GONE WRONG
MARTIN, THE NEGRO aviator was not among those who hopped off for the race across the Pacific although it was announced by him some weeks previous that he would be one of those who would compete for the $55,000.00 in prize money offered by the backers of the James D. Dole air race. Martin is a Negro. At the time of starting it was indicated that he did not have a plane. It may have happened that Martin would have been numbered among the missing after a few hours at sea as many of those who hopped off for the trip across the treacherous Pacific and it might have happened that he would have been one of those to win this fame and glory if he had had a plane, but Martin did not have a plane, and it is even rumored now that he never had planned to get a plane. Such rumors may not be found in fact but so often it happens that representatives of our race, in their desire to do the large and spectacular thing, talk until the truth gives out and then just keep on talking, and in the last analysis only they will very often the race as well is embarrassed. Good intentions do men credit when backed by action which results in real accomplishment. We have too much stated intention in projects like these and too little actual carrying through. Somehow this journal believes that the interest of all would be served best by less advertisement of intention and more actual delivery. Our aviators until now have all proven a joke.
THE TOOTH BRUSM
"In view of these and other alarming facts, how can our ministers monochon, Kelly Miller, and thousands of others, who view the folly of this flood tide of peril and opportunity in our national life—with our own methods, the ill-equipped churches, dead prayer meetings, and liquidament punishment and reward in the world come and make little of nothing of our humanity, the necessity of man-building and world unity with us religion as he has given other endowments of our life, are how far we have to come."
If you have bleeding gums, don't get a hard stiff brush but use a soft brush to clean them and then check and then get another. Most of us try to keep our tooth brushes too hard. They should be soft. You should not fall out and another record in its place.

I Am Grateful, Friends
WISH to thank the Pulpit, the Press, and the Public for your unselfish support given me in the recent crisis through which PORO COLLEGE has passed.
No less do I wish to express my appreciation for the many messages of interest and sympathy which have come to me; for the tender spoken word; and for the prayers of the faithful that an institution dedicated to my race might stand untouched.
And I am grateful for the unprecedented demonstration of racial solidarity presented.
Your friendly interest, loyalty, and prayers during the recent upheaval have lightened, more than any other agency could have lightened, the way to bigger endeavor.
In recognition whereof, I rededicate to my people, PORO COLLEGE, and reconsecrate it to the laying service of Negro Womanhood,

POLICY 90484A ISSUED JUN 2, 1927 - CLAIM FILED JULY 9, 1927 - CHECK MAILED JULY 10, 1927
I wish to express my sincere appreciation for the prompt service rendered me in the case of the death of the late Dr. S. S. Gunningham. He was a member of your Company only fourteen days and I am very pleased with the settlement and I assure you that I count it a pleasure to speak a good word to the people of Texas for the Victory Life Insurance Company. The payment of this claim has been made to me and I have received about $7,44 the amount that was put in there, but instead I have received at the hands of a real business corporation a check for $2,500, the face value of the contract. I can say that the Victory Life was the first to pay off any claim that was due on the life of my husband. But credit can be given to your splendid type of representatives whom you have as your agents in this great state of ours. I can say in a few words in, Long live the Victory Life Insurance Company and may its prosperous years be many.
Very truly yours,
Mrs. Lillian I. Gunningham.
P. S. To exemplify my faith in the Victory Life Insurance Company I am today making application for a $1,000 contract.

in the realm of Religion Dallas Churches Invite You To "COME TO CHURCH" Sunday!
1. Scaleson comes to the Throne amid Difficulties.
We have just indicated the domestic queens who marked the church, queens who staged a sweet stage of Israel, hence, it was during those attirions that the queens were crowned. The crown of his great father, David — who grown久 old and was no longer grown久 old — was left to thank the tales of the work of the kingdom so much was left to thank the high priest and other leaders. Admired, the oldest among the princes, the most commanding personality, pure beauty and very ambition, made him the most commanding king, not intimidating. It was under the guidance of the Solomon was to be moved to the princes and leaders of the crowned proclaimed king. He gave a great effort to the princes and leaders of the crowned proclaimed king. He was at the close of this feast to gudge to have at once to Balthasar and and at once to Balthasar and and to David and ordered that Solomon be immediately proclaimed king, having him as king Solomon and was for his younger brother, having him as king Solomon and was for his younger brother, having him as his father and Solomon with all his heart to the
II. Solomon Seeks Wisdom.
Presumably in the first year of Solomon's reign accompanied by a vast retinue he goes to Gheon, the great high place, it was a Cananathish sacred spot, a place for sacrifice located or a high hill. The law of Moses forbad worship in high places, and restricted worship to a single sanctuary. Deut 12:10-20, yet the Israelites consecrated high places for worship until the day of king Hezekiah. The ark was in a temporary tent in Jerusalem, the Obernacle of Moses was at Gheon.
During the day Stomon had made a very princely offering unto the Lord conaleting of a thousand burnt offings, some writers think the number mentioned here is not to be taken literally, but a very great number. It was during the night following the offering that God appeared to king Solomon in a dream. It was God's favorite method in imparting truth to men in olden times, he took charge at night where there was nothing to men in much the same way today.
night." Solomon must have been about twenty years of age at this time. Like Paul the first king of Israel. Solomon at least in his early life was modest, humble, from self concert and vanity. Both men seem to have had a correct sense of the great responsibility resting upon them. They started well. Solomon was also very devot.
on the first of the 19th century, the Book of Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and songs of Solomon are proof of his wisdom as well as the judgements reached he made, and the visit of royalty from other lands. GOD GIVES MORE THAN WE ASK FOR. In this case he gave Solomon both riches and honor. One writer says he had 19 million a year for a pocket.
Night session. Special feature Thursday night was "Bible Stories" by Miss Bertha Mills, of Dr. Truitt's Church, Dallas. Sermon by Rev. T. George Jr., Commerce, Texas. Acts 5:1-6 Subject "The Convincing Influence of the Gospel." Offering for Christian Education by Drs. J. R. Burdette, W. J. Cobb and J. A. McPherson.
Solomon was granted in his vision the privilege of asking what ever he desired, wonderful opportunity, wisdom, wisdom and understanding. He shows he was a man possessed of wisdom in his choice. 1. He had been his father's Friend, he wanted David to be his friend. "Thou had showed, David my Father great kindness, whose conduct had been pleasing to God," as he waited before then in truth. 2. He had given him a son to
occurry his throne as a reward of his righteousness. It was wonderful to have a worthy son to take up one life work where he left it off. 3. Solomon appreciates the great responsibility that now rests upon him, "Then hast made thy servontking, and I am but a little enlight." Solomon must have been about twenty years of age at this time. Like Haul the first king of Israel. Solomon at least in his earth life was modest, humble, free from self concert and vanity. Both men seem to have had a correct sense of the great responsibility resting upon them. They started well. Solomon was also very devoted to religion, all of which must have been most gratifying to David. 4. Solomon recognized the need of Divine guidance because the task was great. The people he was to lead was great in number and importance. They had grown to more than six millions.
were the people chosen of God to preserve the true knowledge of Jehovah upon the earth, hence the greatness of the task. He was not only to care for matters of state, but to be judge, the most humble subject was to come to him for judgment. He wanted to do justice as between man and man, to do this it required wisdom. Windom it is said, in insight, while knowledge is the power to apply wisdom rightly. It is said that after the imposing ceremonies in West minister Abbey, which made Victoria Queen of England, who was only 18 years of age, when they were alone, she said to her mother, I suppose, mams, it must be that I am Queen of England? Yes love $50 see that you are. I was the reply. Well then I have one, as we get to make, I want to be alone and unisturbed for an hour. Now that hour was spent, we were known, but it is supposed it was pleading with God like Solomon for wisdom and guidance.

BiHop W. D. Johnson, the Christian hero of endurance and lover of men, came to Dallas at the call of duty, in his usual sympathetic manner heard all and left orders with the P.E. J. The Council composed of Reva. C. W. Abington, G. J. Young, G. E. Browne, R. H. Windatt, P. E. Womack, C. L. Morgan and J. S. Jenkins. Well might it be said that Bishop W. D. Johnson is a man of endurance, came to Dallas, motoring from Waco, held a three hours council with the good members of St. Paul and then left orders with the presiding elder, leaving without eating a morest for Athens, Palestine and Port Arthur, to work and campaign for the Fall Financial Rally for Paul Quinn College, this traveling and endurance. We hope the changed on the Dallas District, will rebound to the good of the people, pastors and to the edification of Christianity giving peace and prosperity.
The quarterly meeting was a great success. Mrs. Henrietta Bush and son, came in from Carrollton, and while the visit refreshed their memory, as to the days of the lamented Rev. J. H. Bush, but the widow and son expressed their delight in being in the service. Dr. C.
