It is significant that the celebration of the victory in the Y, M, C. A drive as well as the larger portion of the work in connection with it was done practically on the very ground of which the fathers of the movement among Negroes in Dalton held the meeting in which the work here was done. The first meeting of the Negroes were held was then located on the corner of Flora and Fairmount Streets on what is now a part of the campus of The Bokker Washington High School.

This great tree has, as it were, grown from the seed planted there more than twenty years ago by Charles Rice, John P. Starks, N. W. Harllee, Rev. "Pappy" Stokes in whose little church the movement was born one Sunday afternoon, B. F. Durrell and a few others. All of them have, long ago, been called to The Great Father. They labored earnestly; and in some way, we know not what, the movement never completely died. And there are a few who take pride in the fact that one of the first gifts to this present campaign consisted of a small fund began by them, kept intact through all of these years and finally applied to the purpose for which it was collected.

OUR LADIES AND THE DEPARTMENT STORES
One of our readers writes in to state that the three largest department stores here not only do not fit Negro women customers in hats, dresses and shoes, but that they invite them to go to the basement. "Say she's 'why can't we support those places which have not made this the custom?' Incidentally she complains that in spite of the insults "our women continue o rush to these stores and buy whatever and wherever they can."
The Express has received such letters before and on those occasion it remarked there was no cure for such a condition so long as there are those among us who continue to fawn upon the hands that strike and kiss the feet that kick them. These are stores in Dallas which do cater to Negro trade. Senile and self respecting persons trade in those stores. Such stores are known because they invite Negro patronage through advertisements in Negro papers and in places where members of the race congregate. They should not be surprised by the necessity of all others. Spending money and purchasing the necessities of life is an unemotional matter. Money knows no race or color line. Standard brands of goods can be purchased for like amounts of money in any store. If there are enough who desire such brands and the store does not ordinarily carry them, the store will not do it. Does it matter if the store is not generally known? The desired article is the thing.
Those who have studied the Sunday School lessons which have appeared in The Express for the past month could not have been prepared by any one other than a class student of The Scriptures as well as one whose thoughts, of them could easily be shared. The use of men in their every day lives. That is true. Charles W. Abington, a religious editor, of this journal is not only a close student of Fine Judaism, but a friend of the building up toward the building up of a strong Christian sentiment in the people or by interpreting for them the philosophy of the world, and therefore able, then, that men who are so seeking men for the highest offices in great churches to see reason in the statements of the nation and to understand them, then as well as in other parts of the nation who urge his election to the office, that he can feel that M. E. Church. They can feel that today in that church as well as unpledibly to able to project his thinking into the future and to begin to understand in which laymen, the real strength of the church will come into a place in their lives.
He seeks election to the Arison field. And it is a matter of record that he has a majority in that subject because of his months of stay there. That he has a group of who he is a majority in, the series of articles which appeared in the journal several months ago. The Express commends him for the closest study of all laymen and voters personally in the conference, not attempt to compare him with other men. It simply states his political position, qualified for the position which he seeks. And there can be no doubt that the time he will not admit that the time has come when the men and the media are clamoring it the church is to come come into its rightful place in the lives of those whom it is supposed to serve.
THE DALLAS EXPRESS, DALLAS, TEXAS, SATURDAY, APRIL 21, 1928
Vice-President Dawson. Spokesman, Longworth and Democrat. Fees, can easily be wrong. Wrongs about Hoover doing the job. Some say that A. A. Romney is the elected President; but the people of these United States must hold that there are wrongs about hoover doing the business and Hoover might be an appliant tool in the Japanese and whose public policy is to tax the citizens to support development out of the public treasury.
Wants to Crush in an incumbent Clergain and his Librite Paper machine; might effectively control and dismantle Texas and crush Congenian Wurzbach, Hon. C. L. T. Tuttle, Hon. J. M. Tuttle, Hon. T. M. Tuttle, Mr. Harry Bock, Hon. William Paul Gage, Hon. Geo. Griffith, brawn and loyal real Republicans who oppose his disregard of mathematics and loyal real Republicans in the State Committee to adopt the following as the basis of Representation in Republican Convention.
But better yet, why not a Negro store for Negro patrons? For years there has been some sort of complaint in stores. Individuals have been insulted when they are told that the store is courteous and management have been slow to reprimand them. There has been no such thing as one's turn if the other followed happen to be white. All of these complaints have been made in stores. For many years the insulters have complained, and to what avail? The larger stores, realizing that we refused to take fines, now simply make their will known. They practically advertise that they do not need or want our stores. Discrimination has birthed Negro business enterprises before, why not now? Our ladies must have hats and dresses, why not buy them wholesale and sell them ourselves? It is being done acceptably in other places and we are not being treated with respect to the money. In fact, if the truth were known, some of the money of Negroes is invested in loans those who own
and sisters.
They are more life lites in our own hands. Nervae in Dallas spend 16,000,000 a year for the necessities of life alone. Two courses are open to us. We can open and operate stores of our own, giving employment to our own sons and daughters as well as making corynebite treatment possible to those who must shop; or, we can centralize our patronage in those stores which do cater to our trade and by the means of compel the treatment which we deserve. Which will we do?

Many years will elapse before the full effect of the recently closed Y. M. C. A. drive will be known. Dallas will benefit in ways not now known and untold opportunities for citizenship will be offered to those whose advantages in this regard have been sadly limited; and all because of the fact that the city is now in the process of legislation to provide for the needs of their brethren in black, asking only a guarantee of good faith from them in the form of work for their own improvement.
jion. They have discovered abilities and capacities in their Negro neighbors of which they hitherto had not dreamed. They have learned to work with the eyes of the Negro citizens themselves to their own possibilities, it opened to the city of Dallas much more of civic energy than could have been released in any other way. For the Negro people, the city has been the undertaking of more and larger projects of a helpful nature by Negro than has ever been the case before. And what is best of all, Negroes see their white neighbors in a different way.
