FIVE YEAR SUSPENDED SENTENCE
GIVEN IN LANCASTER RAPE CASE
"Not delegates but the law in office," and Judge Hastings. "The Texas court delegation were made by a representative of Illinois, and they were former, former court, court judge." "This is not a case of delegates but of principals," Judge Hastings declared as he opened his argument, "the court minutes by Chairman Bailley." "We are here called upon to decide the case," Judge Bailley is binding on The National Republican Convention. "Awarding which was issued, district has the right to choose their own dents, make and as in their choice by roads and not shall." From 1880 until 1924 this convention has sided all 1924 candidates, elected in congressional conventions and it has been used to repute the unit rule as followed by the Democratic Party. In 1924 into this shall a Democratic legislature be allowed to make laws for the state, please glued his remaine.
Majority leaders call it, "nur-

Mrs. Willisramer who presented the majority report asked next in line to vote on the resolution adopted by the national convention to the obedience of the election laws of the various states and the national constitution, the Republic made its own laws.

county when a jury early this week in
Judge Grover Adams' court gave

of Feb. 25, 1923. When he was arraigned, Wright employed
a district attorney, McCut-

McCuthon had both nearly foreclosed

The girl victim, now 17 years old, appeared in court in which she claimed Wright is the father of. She justified that she must be innocent because she was in custody, also on other occasions. Assault on a girl under 18 was common law. There need be no force or action on a girl under 18 to officiate rape. Therefore the state did not have to prove force in the Wright case. The state did not have to charge the charge but admitted having and implicated, relations with the girl. The state attained evidence to retake Wright's denial of the charge. Wright was the three year old, baby, which the girl denied attributed to Assistant District Attorney Rory H. Larry and Gustave Green. The girl was defended by McCulcoth and Lee Dargan. She was got only a two minutes and then returned with the five-year-old, unjustifiating that the sentence be suspended during the good behavior of the delen

Houston, Texas, June 16—Because of the fact that there was some memory with him from the letter from You" which made him faint when it was played, the deceased wife of J. B. Turner, veteran band leader of Beaumont, had announced again. He had kept his promise.
Friday morning during the closing hours of the Grand Lodge, his band was requested to play the part of parliament of Houston when the song was requested. He began beating time for his band, the opening cars were played, the hearses were to stay, the choir to Camp Garvin, where the best medical aid of Houston was given him but he was not given the only disheartening feature of the grand lodge, where services were held for him by the Grand Lodge and Grand Chancellor for shipment to Beaumont.
Funeral services for him by the Grand Chancellor will be made a special trip to Beaumont. Turner was one of the most ardent Pythians in the years had enjoyed the reputation of bringing the most perfectly tuned band to the Grand Lodge.

SUMMER SCHOOL
Approximately 1500 students applied for admission at the beginning of the Summer school of Industrial College at the opening on June 4. Available accommodations in the dormitories have been taken and many were compelled to seek quarters in the towns of Texas. The annually increasing grant places at the college has exceeded the capacity of the institution and hundreds were turned away by dedicated admissions officers. Normal and Industrial College is located about a miles from Hempstead on a quiet road. The order to accommodate the thousands who apply for admission at the college requires the placement of Texas through the officials of the college and the State Board of Control will make on appraisal the care of the increasing enrollment of the college for years to come. The order to ward to the enlargement of the college with much interest and concern.

RANDOLPH AND HUNT
MAKE FINAL STAND BEFORE MEDIATION BOARD
New York, June 16—According to the latest news from the headline, Philip Randolph, General Organizer, and Henry T. Hunt, counsel, appear before the U. S. Mediation during the establishment of the Emergency Board. The Emergency Board, the Mediation Board, considers that a condition is inefault with charger and therefore recommends that the board establish the establishment of the sald Board. The final count of the sald ballets of Pulman porters show 16,013 affirmative votes in favor of the strike in the opinion of the board. The board agrees and its counsel, there is no way for the Board, to avoid recommending the establishment of the Emergency Board.
2. According to experienced labor men, when sufficient employees in the factory are required for their centre for a walk-out, unless their demands are conceded, this, in the meaning of the Federal Code, is the threat of interruption or interstate commerce sufficient to justify the intervention of the President in the industry. If the Mediation Board does not recommend the establishment of the Emergency Brotherhood, will call a strike.

Beginning in the precinct conventions and continuing with unbroken determination in county, state and national conventions, the group of leaders headed by C. C. Littleton, Wm. M. McDonald, Captain Elgin, Wm. Paul Gage and others, have fought one of the most determined political battles ever known in the history of this state. They have gone down to glorious defeat and the hopes, of their followers, by no means shattered, have risen with the complete knowledge of the sort of fighting spirit that has actuated them. And further than that, there is not a self respecting Republican in this state who has the welfa of the party at heart who has not resolved that for all time to come he will continue the fight for the recognition of the true principles which have governed the party for all of these years. It is no need to review the fight. And for once in our political lives we have the satisfaction of knowing that every possible resource was used in forcing the issue. Not since the days of Cecil Lyons, according to those who are directly familiar with the history of the Republican Party in Texas, has a content contained sufficient merit to be carried to the floor of the national convention with any possibilities of success. Yet this contest became the property of the convention in open session and its legal aspects were looked over and discussed.
It is rather significant that the disfranchisement angle of the question at no time obtruded itself into the open discussion. The methods by which the Creager regime has been able to perpetuate itself never once came in for mention. Yet it is upon that angle that all of the dissatisfaction which race voters in Texas have, has come. The Creager regime has been able to even allow for the casual participation of the Negro. The Express makes this statement in full knowledge of the presence of several Negro delegates to the state convention and it remembers that even though there were fifty-two places killed on the delegation, no single Negro was chosen even as a candidate. The porters in the state were to be found within the race. It was on that ground that the majority of the voters of the race ejected to support the Wurzbach faction. Such a course was the only self respecting one to be taken in the race. The Creager regime but no ultimate defeat, the race voters are satisfied.
Just what the effects on the general election in Texas the action of the convention in Kansas City will have cannot not be stated. It may or may not affect the Hoover decision, but it will not affect the growth of the party in Texas any more easy as far as state politics are concerned. The Texas vote has generally been inconsequential as far as the national elections are concerned. But in state politics, now that there is hope of attracting more voters, the state will decide of the Negro voters as a mass will have weight. The Express again commends the race voters for their stand in precinct, county and district conventions and urges that they in no way change the spirit of political independence, which them they do. Despite the victoryors than they could have been in any other way, Self respect must be maintained. Peon makes no decisions. Those of slavish spirits are forever at the mercy of those who cannot accept defeat, are not fit fighters. Principles are everlasting; and in this case a principle was involved.
The 19th of June
WHAT PRICE POLITICAL FREEDOM?
THEN and NOW might be the subject of a long discourse on the day which the race celebrates in Iowa as official Annapolis inauguration, the welcoming, positional and sorrowful, divided families and lack of family life. Now, the highly constructive workers and problems of a different sort not yet as perplexing. The comparison is productive of pride in the three score years, and has insolvent it has been the custom of the patrons on such days as this to review the record and to across by painting to the program stand.
The Negro voters of America have been without exception loyal to the Republican Party. They have blindly followed its leadership through all of the years until now. Fortunately for the race, there have always been several of its members of sufficient strength and acumen to maintain leadership in the states in which they reside. But now that the fily-white sentiment is growing with such rapidity, it appears that soon a clean sweep will have been made and that there will be none of the race left in positions of power and influence in the party. That such a thing should happen be unthinkable. Steps must be taken and at once to forsail such action. The trend of the party is now unmistakable.
How the attention of the national leaders can be directed to the power of this tremendous voting power of the race constitutes an out problem which confronts those who think. And upon their solution of this question rests the future of the race at least in the south. This strength in other sections of America has already been successfully demonstrated.
It is literally true that there are thousands of Negroes in Texas, we know, who having their poll tax, do not go to the poll and vote. There are likewise other thousands of voting age who do not pay their poll tax. On these two groups there must be many hours of work spent and many months of interest taken. They constitute our strength. They constitute our problem.
The convention closed Friday afternoon and carl Saturday morning, all the special trails from which they came.

It has attracted National attention from the beginning and it is the most important historical history has much a contest been brought with such concession that but this test of growth on the floor of the convention was the most significant sentiment which has been manifesting itself from the earliest conflicts which the definite announcement of President Collidge that he refused to attend Pennsylvania's delegation to the standard of Housemans his nomination. Five men figure largely in
London among the race men who composed forty-pen cent of the Warburg deliberation was the warren, one of the trio which made the contribution of the fight possible. One of the men who were drawn from the various congressional districts at the state legislature, resisting the votes to make the concession, it is to be remembered that is distinctly antigovernment and the race is represented in no way in the congressional body. Louisville is giving in royal welcome, a hearty response.

Al. A. K. Godet, the Minneapolis Department, Louisville is giving in royal welcome, a hearty response.
Certainly it is true that the recent fight in the Republican party has shown us conclusively that there must be more coherence in our efforts political. We can no longer sit down and wait on the mercies of the Lord." They always come but in their own way and to him who is forewarned and therefore forearmed. Our future welfare is bound up in our ability to organise more closely politically than has ever been the case before. Our salvation lies in the speed with which this organization is accomplished. It must take place by small units and these must be related to each other in a way that is easy to this organization but thoughtful consideration of our present plight.
