Found Drunk by Birth Closing a Successful I With Curses. on His Had Much Money.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala., Sept. 1—Eay, Douglas McDuffie, famous dressed Friday night a week ago in the Birmingham Hospital.
This story goes that McDuffie had just closed a three weeks' revival in a C. M. E. church in Birmingham and is in its spiritual treasury and man of God and husband, the church in two cities of money.
According to McDuffie's confession shortly before his death, he has been a habitual drunkard and does friend, under the guise of a priest, under the guise of a woman, a robber and a bayer. He died cursing, climbing that hall and has been known the country over as a revivalist and a religious fanatic.
McDuffie has conducted meetings at the larger churches in this city, converting souls in large numbers and leaving the city.

New York, Sept. 1—The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) filed a lawsuit against Fred C. Knoelshamer of El Paso, Texas, the attorney who laid the ground for NAACP's lawsuit against the Primary Case victory before the United States Supreme Court, to challenge the decision of Norros in Texas. When the Supreme Court decided to hear burning Colored voters from the state Democratic primaries, the white people sought to accuse the state committee of the power to determine voting in the primaries. Thus, instead of primaries, the state committee enacted a rule that no Nearro should vote. This new dodge is being challenged as precisely as was the White Primary law. Dr. L. A. Nike offered him, the NAACP's primary candidate and was reduced a ballot. The N. A. A. C. P. has now retained the vote up to and beyond the sum of $4,660. The United States Supreme Court, in the United States, Supreme Court, decided to pay a fee to the sum of $4,660. Since the White Primary decision, the Supreme Court ordered from harring Nerro by law, have

has never holted the white feather, neither has it been disfigured, nor has it been scratched, which is not afflicted with the flannel mouth. It is a plain, every day, sensation, which trumps no salt to catch the passing brushes. This no salt will profess a irritation as bound as our country, its lives of even hands and justice must be preserved by the human race. This is pretty high ground, not be disturbed by the beating of the grass come up and wind with. This ground is hour.

Another step in the work of establishing a permanent home for the T.M.C.A. work among Negro men and boys has made it possible for the building at the corner of Flora and Belt Street. It now remains only for the continued payment of pledge and the preliminary work that must be done to complete the contracts in be completed before actual work in the project takes place.
As conditions now obtain, it appears that the Negro building has been moved to be moved to the city and that that condition has been made possible by the grant payment of plaques and the splendid work of collections during the campaign in just another time. The race here have to be bound.
It is to be remembered that new national records were broken during that drive for funds and that the work of the completion of the project was well under way. That is as it should be. It is a record that has to allow any other consideration to mar it. It shows that the interest in the surface of the young here. It shows that the men has been willing to sacrifice much of their time in to come there will be an increasingly large number of means that in time to come there will be incorporated up directed precisely in life. It means that can be done with the men have been met, and what is best in the life of this artist such interests were submitted in the interest of the common good and that to create more opportunity for
The signs of the times point to a decided revolt among race voters against the Republican party because of the lily white leathers. First there was the policy as carried out in Kansas City and followed closely behind it came the persecution of Ben Davis of Georgia and Perry Howard of Mississippi. And finally comes the appointment of men who are not pleasing to the old line*politicians, as leader of the campaign among Negroes. Neval H. Thomas has openly rebelled and promises to cast his lot with the Democrats and in many other places, in Texas particularly, it has been given out that the G. O. P. need not look for much support. Just how much weight these indications will have on the leaders of the party cannot now be told. Whether or not the Negro vote is worth their consideration cannot be determined. The leaders in a political way are deciding to have done with the matter of promises and camouflage which has characterized the relations of party leaders with Negro voters for so many years. For years just at campaign time there has been much consideration for the rights of the race. One does not have to be so old to remember the promised anti-lynching bill and the honeyed speeches which told of the needs of the race. But lynching has gone on apace and in some instances it is recorded that party leaders helped the fight against the bill on the floor
mittee to eliminate Negroes from party leadership and then to grant them all of the good things which are promised. That May be what is the case. But in the light of our experiences in time past there is little room for such optimism. But one thing is certain. No harm will be doled by the stand against the present policy of the Republican leaders. They need to know that even though the race is still Republican in its leanings, it is not bound by any very strong ties. They have been broken by *SHTreatment*.
A meeting is being held in Chicago: this week for the purpose of creating an organization of the Negro Voters of this nation. It will seek to create a national as well as State lobbies for the purpose of helping the passage of beneficial legislation and for the suppression of that which seeks further to curtail the civic rights of the race. It is to be largely financed according to the statements of those interested in its organization and funds are to be secured from the state. If they may be effected and that in is the hope of its prominent function may be all of the owers of the race may be effected and that in that way a compelling force for obtaining political recognition may be created.
The Express view the idea with much favor but reserves final judgment until all of its organization is complete. It takes such a position because of the fact that in times past such organizations have not been so constituted as to bring the success for which they were destined. It recognizes the fact that complete organization as well as voting education must be had before the race as such can hope to come into its own politically. There can be no half way measures with any hope of definite success. And too, these who are placed in control of the lobby and particularly of the funds must be those who are trusted and whose past records recommend them to the general public. This journal is not passimatic at all. It is just honest enough to admit that many of our former political failures were due to the fact that those who led were more anxious for easy individual seats at the "pie counter" than they were for the political advancement of their fellows.
Let the organization be perfected. Let it be largely financed. Let it be headed by those who seek the real and lasting success' which is due a body with such potential strength as such an organization will have. Then political bargaining will be easy. There will only be effort and power behind every attempt. Thus only will we come into our own. It is good that the time has come when it is generally recognized that there is common need of mutual support and that all over this nation the plight of the Negro voter demands united and concerted effort.
CONSCRIPTING COTTON PICKERS
The Express notes that the Federal labor agent has asked the cooperation of the Dallas police department in the securing of cotton pickers. He suggests that the officers witt "Little Mexico" and other places where it is reported that idle men are to be found in large numbers and that they be thus forced to go to labor at pickering, too. He reports an alarming security of laborers for this work. The Express is not in disagreement with the idea that no man should be idle when there are jobs to be found. But it does not agree that labor should be thus conscripted. Were it found necessary to resort to such tactics and were it probable that ALL idle men would be thus treated the case, while not different in its theory would be more to its liking. But such a policy has been followed in time past here though it was not publicly so announced. And one class of men suffered terribly to the exclusion of others. In fact, Negroes were the only type of men arrested and so treated according to the reports as they were then obtainable.
And in this same connection it may be stated that the unwillingness of many persons to enter the cotton fields has definite root in poor accommodations in the places to which they were subjected on former occasions. Ask most any man who formerly went "to the cotton patch" and tales of what amounted to ordinary exploitation can be heard with startling regularity. Then too, jobs in the city are not to be had for the asking and good homes, even when rented, cannot be duplicated easily if once given up. The Express is not unexaminate with the efforts of the labor agent to secure laborers. In fact, it realizes that the laborers are not secure in securing them which he advocates contains probability of more injustice and harm than it does of good.
