Jacksonville, Texas, Sept. 16—Three illustrations of interracial good will and cooperation have recently occurred in the United States. They are based on by way of suggestion and encouragement to other communities. The first was the unveiling of a monument to the soldiers of the American and World War, the monument carrying the names of both the white and Cobran of the American soldier and the gold-sold-tar mothers were given the same recognition as those of the soldiers. The second illustration occurred when the city set out a few new officers, the Major, a member of the interracial group, told the officers that he would be extended to the Nero section, even though some of the white officers had his suggestion two lines of swords were laid into the Gulf. The dancer wore his suggestion two lines of swords were laid into the Gulf. The certain needed extensions into the white area are still on the waiting list. The third instance was a small matter, but not instructive. The students devoted an edition of their paper to the public schools of the United States, where schools were given the same consideration and space in the white schools.
Women to Play Big Part in Election.
Washington, D. C., Sept. 15—Dean Kiley Miller, of Howard will be a big factor in determining the trend of the Negro vote in the fall's election. There is, in the meantime, to the public a priority the Women's vote to Hoover, and that is through the appeal of the National League, the Sunday Schools, the Church of Jesus Christ, and the upright organization, a region of women are being reached, women who are pleading the cause because of its attitude toward the moral question at stake.
Pennsylvania Woman Sees New Day For Colored Women
Washington, D. C., Sept. 15—Mr. Kiley Miller, of Howard, of Colored Women's Activities, Republican National Headquarters, and President of the State Federation of Colored Women of Pennsylvania, down the dawn of a new day among Colored Women workers for the Republican Party."

SPEAKER AT CONVENTION URGES SUPPORT OF ALL LAW ENFORCERS.
The Senator called attention to Herbert Hoover, the Republican who equipped men in Americans public life, and one to whom every law was made. He was the law of the abuse, in public life today who would tamper with the constitution, and with other law's interests. It is inimical to the best interests of all Americans, but it is not inimical to the greatest jeopardy. We cannot stand for any feeling around with the situation. We want the Eighteenth Amendment enforced and we want the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendment enforced and we want the Amendment enforced. We are not courting nullification in America.
"We regard the law as our protection and we don't want to feel pressured to comply with responsible public sentiment an overtime our protection and an obligation our has not turned back upon the construction because of the risk."

Tennessee Students
Seek Interracial Understanding
Maryville, Tenn., Sept. 14—The
East Tennessee Student Interracial Commission composed of students from two white and two
Clared schools—Maryville College,
the University of Tennessee,
Knoxville College, and Morton
College, during the coming college
year the most effective program in its history. Regular monthly meetings will be held at which matters of interest and importance to the members will be dealt with. The staff will work out an educational program that will teach the entire student bodies of the several schools Interested.
The officers of the Commission are Edward D. Rose or Marvellie Rose; Bill Hall of Matthews College; Vice President; and Mine Margaret Bell of Morton College. Secretary. The members number fifty, about equally divided between the two races. A number of fifty short, equally divided their service and support.
Last year the Commission, convinced that better transportation facilities should be provided for Colored people in Tennessee, took the matter up with the general public in that state, where roads are similar to those requesting more consideration in the matter of waiting cars, cars and convoyments. Courteous replies were received from all the roads, amusing the Commission that narrow attention would be given to the problem, and also brought to Marvellie and Marvellie College during the year Prof. Carver Carter, famous Kansas shepherd, who was heard with great delight by practically all the members of the two institutions.

It is generally conceded now that the major issue in the coming presidential campaign is the 18th Amendment. The Constitution. True, farm relief is one of the points contention but the limelight is held by prohibition. Conventions are splitting over the pronouncements of Al Smith and ultra dryes are throwing fists in the faces of partial vets all over the country. And strange to say, although members of our race admit the importance which attaches to the prohibition issue, as a general proposition, they have swallowed the camouflage in its entirety and have taken this as the most important thing to them. Are they justified in it?

True it is that prohibition has worked definitely to the advantage of Negroes who suffered much from extravagancies in the days of the open saloon. But now that the Amendment has been made a part of the Constitution and is receiving more attention than are all of the others in which are bound up all of their hopes for complete citizenship, are they wise in such days as these to overlook their opportunities to find out the attitude of candidates with regard to them?

THE NATIONAL NEGRO BUSINESS LEAGUE
IMPROVES ITS PROGRAM
The country generally will welcome this change in program of the league. Hoo lump it had it stuck by its program of inspiration. And its recent decision proves that the agitation kept up and carried on by a group of the yonger as well as some of the older members of that cabinet was worth the effort. That is has finally realized that it is more important that it shall help to preserve as well as help to initiate business is well worth white.
Public schools are opening all over areas next week. Free text books, an over rating standard of education, a free library and bioblack imprinted materials for the training of the young age at the discount of thousands because of the demotion of the school. Children who love it only remains for parents to see it—if their children enter on the opening day and that they have decent opportunities throughout the whole term.
That was what it was pitylessness thought that going to school was not messy. There have been many parents who have cared for their children and have no education. I have done well. My child can do so much. Such parents like those who care, save because of the fact that their pathways were not clear. I should be by their side. I was not thought of the change in conditions during their routines.
In the days when men just "came up" automobiles were unknown and driving could really be hard. The road was too long to travel on. The house of Nature and television would be crossing the countryside to pressure the countryside to the air. Specialists were unknown and the commodities of the road would be costly purchased and lightly held. Competition was not been, and the "Jack of all trades" the thousands of those who did not qualify for special plans in the work of the roadman. Those who did not qualify for special plans in the work of the roadman were handicapped in the race of life. The school offered the child his first chance in the work of the roadman on the responsibility for the duties of their offering. In the school, a boy of the age of 10 was offered the responsibility that responsibility. See to it that they attend regularly, and that they work hard at the tasks imposed on the schedule of their

An open letter has been sent to John R. Hawkins asking him to set forth the attitude of the Republican candidate on matters affecting the race as such. Though it has been proposed by one who states that is supporting the Democratic nominee, is it not in place? And would it not be equally as much in place—were such a letter to be sent to the Democratic nominee? The time has come when the many millions of us must think very definitely in terms of achieving the things of a civic nature for which we hope. Opportunity to express ourselves comes in a national way but once if four years and at that time there is opportunity to put well to the front the desires for greater civil freedom and justice. Our right to vote, to hold office, to be freed from the dangers of lynching and all of such lie are just as important to America in the final analysis as is the enforcement of the 18th Amendment or the decision to modify or not to modify the Vollead Act. We may as well cease to be political "Babes in the Wood" and step out into the light of more-many and definite statements of what we desire our support of parties to get for us. Certainly it is by no means necessary, that we fall into the fallacious idea that for us the decisions about prohibition are the most important.
Right along about here, however, the likeness ends. White folk songs from the Grayst building, the Writer's building, the Tribune Tower, the court house courts, the Los Angeles courts, and hundreds of other structures throughout the length and breadth of the city, the choosetown dams and downs of where similar to it; they have taken the place of the patenteed with telephone wires and made it possible to pick up a receiver in New York. The wires are covered with steepee-steepee into cookbooks of old clothes, and flown across all the streets, even over the dreary tops of the buildings, of these studies and
According to dispatches sent out The National Negro Business League will dedicate itself during the next ten year to making Negro business concept more progressive and substantial by broadcasting modern methods and procedures. Its program adopted at its recent meeting in New York includes a union of press, pupil and school in spreading the message of progress and efficiency as well as further study of the condition of Negro business in all parts of the country. It is supposed that the material upon which this program was built was furnished in large measure by the findings of the survey commission which has been at work in all sections of the country for many months.
gram is destined to bring to the support of the league a class and kind of membership which has not felt that membership in it was profitable in former times. Conditions have changed. Men of the race who are in business are now seeking to improve and increase their concerns and they will support handsomely any agencies with dedicates itself to such a service. Amongst which the survey was made is highly comfortable and the findings will doubtless furnish food for thought and study for many years to come. With such material at hand it shouldn't be hard for those in charge of the affairs of the league to proceed with a precision that will result in easily seen gains in the coming months.
The layman of the A. M. E. Church have maintained an organization for the past two years. It was scheduled to hold a meeting this week in connection with the opening of Paul Quinn College at which time leaders-of-thought of that Church from all sections of the state were scheduled to meet. The meeting was coming year. Few of them were present. But one of them sent in a letter explaining his absence. And the meeting as such, while good, showed that there was little or no direction in the work of the group. No business was brought forward-from former time. No program for E. work of the years was clearly defined, and it appeared that the organization intended to do something sometimes it knew not when.
The Express while vitally interested 'in everything which concerns the race as such does not pick out this organization for criticism as much as it takes this occasion to point out that many other of our concerns fall of their greatest usefulness because of the same indirection. Definite programs are essential to large success. Hit or miss methods have never been responsible for great accomplishments, and the charts and maps. A thorough investigation proceeds according to pulse attention of the condition born of a well realized intention to arrive at a point determined before hand.

THE NEGRO IN THE NEXT CONGRESS
---
The gaiting of power in the North complements only in a mimo setting. The South. A national congressman is an inquiline exchange for the North, and the South means more to the political strength of New York than twenty congressmen. The one represents the most powerful political divisions of a state. But while we mourn over our loss in the war, we still have political divisions of a state. The next census will fall an interesting story. When respondent Mr. Brennan defines the situation on the basis of the 2920mm census, he shall then know will the situation be different. He would be not. One would say, beforehand, that one funder and twenty-five other funders would
mound the political fortunes of a congressional district. New York's incumbent Jim Morrison, Louis and possibly Michelle Obama, still probably measure up to this requirement. The race this candidate will win will be a big one. The Negro congressmen in the dear future, with the power, prestige and promise that each represents.

MARSHALL COMMITTEE PERFECTING PLANS FOR TEACHERS MEETING
President Dagan of Wiley College, general chairman local arrangements committee state Colored Teachers' Association, announces that plans for entertaining the 1918 session of the teachers' association are beginning to take shape. The executive board that is only one piece of meeting, Professor H. B. Famberton, principal of local Colored high school and active vice-chairman of the general committee will work out details of program for welcoming the association to Marshall. He is also advisory member of the committee on budget, education, training and homeschool. Then entire committee chairman, area Dean D. A. Foley, homeschool; Professor J. R. Moote, principal Hillside school reception; Dr. T. L. Hunter transportation; Miss Lolietta Pemberbon, exhibition; Dr. O. L. Bledsoe, tour; H. J. Margo, budget; Dr. O. W. Phillip, social activities; Mrs. F. D. Johnson, office.
The county and city teacher's institute is meeting at Central this week and efforts will be made to register all the teachers for the state association. The chairman of the institution committee assumes the general chairman that the city teachers may be counted on a hundred percent for registration. Immediately following opening of schools an institute campaign for members will be imagined with view of materially increasing enrollment in all of the associations.
It looks now as though the Marshall meeting of the association will be marked by the absence or outside attractions. Both the general chairman and vice-chairman are accompanying the need of cutting out all unimportant features within the organization and will be involved in this idea and ask that economy and convenience be incorporated into all plans for conducting the business of the association.
The following is a tentative suggested outline of the program. First day's session begins at 19:00 o'clock and adjourns at 9:00 for dinner and the football game between the teams. The football game takes up at 10:00 and last until 12. On Thursday immediately following the foot-ball game, the association will re-assemble for an hour's session. The evening sessions on 7:30 and thirty minute musicals will be held. The day of the re-arrangements to meet the convenience of the association the local committee will request the two contending schools to bring this same guest name the place of meeting so as to prevent a break in the sessions of the day, and where it will cause local interference and loss.
Friday afternoon, November 20 will be devoted entirely to departmental work or group sessions. It is in these group meetings that the real business of the association is accomplished.
It is the desire of the leaders of the organization that this meeting at Marshall must be something more than in social gatherings. And the local committee must be involved in the relationship between the President and local committee in working with the final and detailed arrangements. Promptness and attention to business is the earnest plan which is being made to the delegates so that sufficient time may be had for necessary recreation and social activities.
The local machinery will be set in motion with full steam ahead within the next few days, according to statement of M. D. W. M. Dewan, general chairman of local committee.
Central high school auditorium will have a seating capacity of 1600, the teachers are to be covered this building in one of the best in Texas. It is a happy situation that the teachers are to be privileged of conducting their meetings there.

Roy C. W. *ed by an insurrection fostered by evil minions* Abington. *Jews even after he had left the synagogue and was carrying on his work in a private house, which brought him before Gallo, the Roman governor, in an effort to have him expelled from the sky. It was when he was called when the governor positively refused to have any thing to do with their religious disputes and drove them from the hall. In fact the accusing Jews got the worst of the deal when a group of Greeks who sympathized with Paul seized their leader, Southwest, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and gave them their laborers. They continued their laborers, when Paul decides, after having been away from Jerusalem for more than three years to reach that city by the time of the Feast of the Passover. It occurs at the same time Anuila and Priscilla, with whom he is brought during his stay in Corinth to rejoice to Ephesus, probably thinking it would be better for their business.
Leaving Corinth together they go down to Cenchrus, the seaport and Paul found it convenient to go to Jerusalem by way of Euthanas. Paul was very cordially received by the seaport and Paul decided to go to Jerusalem by the feast, he left his friends and sailed to Caesarea and from there he went up to Jerusalem. Nothing is said of this visit to the Holy City aside from the fact that he "created the brethren." It is clear that Paul was in Jerusalem in his contention for Gentile freedom, the dues he had not caused their fight against him and it had had the effect of cooling the sympathy of the elders. It is certain that Paul's reception was in no way cordial. Leaving Jerusalem, Paul returned to Antioch and thus gave hiseci to the apostle Paul. He returned to Jerusalem three years ago it may be supposed that hiseci was even more cordial than when he returned before as he told of pushing the gospel conquest into Europe. Leaving on his third missionary journey visiting the places where he had been, Paul returned to Euthanas. It was from this city he writes the First Epistle to the Corinthians.
L—The Need of Unity in Christian Work in Stressed
It is clear from chapter 8.19, that Paul had written an earlier letter to this church which has been lost. I think he have been lost to us. The thirteenth Epistle which have been preserved being only a selection from the many he wrote. This one was written A. D. 69, near the close of his three years residence in Ephesus. Owing one name we ought to great greatness readens. "I love of you bubbles, by the nausea of the Lord Jesus Christ, that we all reason alike." The Ideal Christian life is reached when its devotees are "forged together in the same mind: the same judgment" and acted by one increasing purpose. Unness of mind: in any field of honest endeavor to render the best service. Two may not walk together except they be agreed. Unity in the golden chard that binds society together: Unity in the marriage relations: unity in the world of business as one. Unity in the world of love: unity of mind and purpose in religion. Persons who can not subscribe to a doctrine which claims the existence of
tion, and that the Bible is a revelation of God's will and dealings with man—it would be impossible for them to dwell together if Christianity unity is lac ing there is the even present danger of destroying energies which should be difficult to the common enemy, to the weakening and destruction of the nation, to the useless to promote. It is said that in one of the great cities of England, a quarrel arises among the firemen, and when they were called out to fight the next fire they turned their hose on one another on the flames. "Too often this is true in Christian work. II—Unity Verse Identity.
The unity stressed by Paul was quite, possible for it "does not mean identity but variety in harmony." We have a wonderful illustration of this unity from life itself—all life in the same, but 187 great variety is expressed in the same body of work, in the same body of work, and in vegetable and vegetable evidences. Paul says in that wonderful 18th chapter of 1, Corinthians: "All flesh is not the same flesh, but there is one kind of flesh of men, another flesh of heart, another of fishes, and another of birds." They tell you that all flesh is grass, no two leaves on a tree or no two grains of wheat. They perfect agreement. Perhaps we get from the Bible one of the best illustrations or ideal unity to be found, anywhere. It has two great divisions, the Old and New Testaments separated by a period of four hundred years of silence. It consists of 86 books, thirty-nine in Old Testament and twenty-one in New Testament, being written in every known form of literature. Twenty-two are historical eleventh are prophectical, and twenty-one epilogical, five poetical. There were at least thirty-two different authors, who wrote in three continents, in three authors who every possible view notht. Among these authors were kings, wise men, lawyers, generals, fishermen, ministers, priests, one taxgazher, one phleaclon and a Gentile, some rich, some poor, small city, and some born in the country—thus touching all the varied experiences of men—covering a northerly, a southerly, a western, a mournous—through all its one progressive and increasing purposes runs. It is this kind of unity that Paul is contending for—not what is a physiological impossibility—that all minds of the same church should have identically the same mind, such one must have him notht—but there must be an unified in an infinite variety of forms. III—Party Division and Strife.
R. had been about three years since Paul had founded its pastor, Mrs. T. M. McDade. It is said, that Mrs. J. Smith were served a church at Corinth, and among the outstanding elements in the Annalleia's leadership none were more neocentric and contributed so much to the stability of his laborers than his pastor, Mrs. T. M. McDade. The perfect organization and demand for Martin, hot welts, and acclimatization to the harsh climate of hellitude. When he organized a group of believers to to handle anything that is given commanded by Mrs. J. J. Johnson, the Church of Jesus Christ, he did not leave them to shift for make the members of the Rock

themselves but kept in close touch with them and protected them as far as possible from their evil environment. A fine example for our ministers and Churches to follow today. Through friends of the house of Choice, who was likely a business woman who had sent members of her household to Corinth for commercial purposes, returned to writing the Church in that city. The Church had come asking for morals and doctrine as well as on party division, and the subjects treated by Paul are varied but might be classed under one general head. Christian conduct, and while he treats on all the subjects brought to his head—he laws special upon the party spirit. One has said, "Party is the place in the place of God." Every division in a devoir of the same use "uses" parties had grown up among them, some saving they were the followers of Paul, others were followers of Apolles, others of Peter, and still another group claimed in a secular sense to be the followers of Jesus. The Greek mind was much inclined toward the party spirit, especially in sports and politics, and now they bring the same spirit in the church. The differences in their differences should be allowed to grow into bitter contentions. The pity is that such a spirit of disunity had never died out in the Church. Paul points out some stubborn facts that we are not rivals, but co-workers with God. Paul had planted. Apolles had come along and watered—Paul had stated that neither he gave the increase that watered anything but God who gave the increase. O that we might see this eternal truth—we would be more humble in our labors.

The Sunday School convention and Allen League Convocation have been on time Wednesday, September 5, many of the guests and delegates were present for the open house and Winnery mounds and Wilmer were working hard to have things ready for us. The church rally and it presented a very pleasing appearance—at the meals under trees and each day the delegates were well cared for in association with the committees. In fact for our never been to see it so wonderfully demonstrated as it was at this convention, the committees, women for in-both churches, women for in-both churches, and women for in-both churches, there was there any unpleasantness that they but furnished us all, and women should work together.
