Oldham was tainted and tried on the murder charge following an assault on the court on June 20, Nuevo, Mexico, the night of the trial. The Oldham case was the first of six to go to trial. Five others are still under indictments and are awaiting a hearing on the prosecution. The other cases have been passed for this term. Oldham was the first white man to face a jury for fifty years continued with a jury with a verdict of the jury on murder, the suspicion of sentence awaits admission of an Oldham during the trial repudiated an alleged admision by him. Oldham was acquitted by the State, saying he was prompted to make the statement by Captain of the Army, saying he was prompted to him that he probably would not be convicted and that the police were not impressed because of the unfavorable impression it made on visitors to the court. White Oldham took the strand in his cap bed, he said he was at home on the night of the assault, from his hospital bed and hanged.

Memphis, Tenn., Oct. 13, That Bob Church, ighting Republicans, was removed from his position without a struggle in which some of the members of his team were brought out in his rave, is indicated by the publication of an editorial in his favor by The Memphis Press. It appears that in Shelby County, and probably in the state of Alabama, the party is attempting to cement the leadership or to win leadership. One answer to these attempts is made by The Appeal of white Republicans to eliminate Bob Church from direction of the Moore compson in one of the attempts. If Church does not direct the compson in his efforts, it is placed in political matters of more consequence. If Church does not personally

According to advises sent out from the office of the office of the National Security Office by Prof. T. T. Pollard, Beaumont, is the first Texas city to enroll its Negro teachers one hundred per cent in the state's New State Association this year. Checks totaling $14.4 million have been mailed to Miles Ellie A. Wells, secretary, with offices in Houston and a statement of collections has been sent to the secretary of the office of the association in Chicago in charge of the executive office of the association.
Prof. Pollard in his lottery rates stated that "I am pleased as have Beaumont contri-
tions to the for-mer progress of the institution which net such a high year. I am looking forward to the meeting in Marshall as the best in history and as one deeply interested in the work of the organisation, the example of Beaumont." The goal of the association membership before the 9ounced at 2600 paid into the opening of the Marshall meeting. Already plans for the complete and membership are being collected rapidly.

It is surprising that any one should question his authority. He won over the lily white faction in him and ended with recognition in Kansas City. His delegation was sent to the temporary office before the credentials committee.
No (colored) appointment is made in Memphis and Shelby County under a Republican administration. Federal office-holders and applicants for federal favor not only admit his authority, but seek, his office.
His part, in Republican affairs was recognized by appointment on the basis of his nomination.
The present controversy smacks of a public year in and out, he is high in the cohesia of his nomination.

Hardest Fight of Life
in Behalf of Negro De-
clares Curtis
Washington, D. C., Oct. 13. "The hardest fight of my public career, involved the case If the Negro." Senator Charles Curtis, vice president of Columbia University, public ticket, told several hundred Negroes at a massmeeting in the Olof Peterson church this morning. This battle, as the candidate explained, was against Hokie James, a teenager years ago from Georgia, whom Negroes regarded as one of their arch enemies in the senate. Smith at the time was engaged in opposition for the erection of the Dumbar Colored high school in Washington. The contest between the two senators was engaged in three days and some senators and their compromise victory by yielding to vote for an appropriation which Smith was seeking for a white high school on condition that the Negroes yield in behalf of Dumbar. Senator Curtis and further problems in the possibilities of the Colored people as a race. I have problems and have sympathies with them in their trials. I have been proud to recognize our contribution of America's progress and to use my efforts to see that they got a square deal."

Church is unanimous and unshaking. He never projects him into politics. His work is done in his blood Street office in Memphis, the White House in Washington.
He might consent to the application, but he would not surrender his power and preface with the promise that he would be the locus. There is no call on him to do it.
The lily white Republicans and the white Crow Republicans, the Portower night, as well make up their mind that there is no much thing as a Jim Crow Republic.

Who Seek Bob Church
We have insisted that white persons only should vote in a Democratic primary in Tennessee. We have insisted on the right of the Negro to vote in a Republican primary and as he pleases in a general election.
To exclude the Negro from the Republican party to make place for white Klansmen would deprive him of his natural right of frontier life. We believe in being fair and honest in politics in other things. Subterfuge and deception are responsible. White Church is the head of the Republican party in this county. He makes higher than J. Will Taylor "his influence in the Republican party in more extensive in the black." He demands the water! Who attends to deceive anybody! The Republican party continues in control, Church will continue to be head of the party in Tennessee.

Washington, D.C., Oct. 12—Herbert Hoover, Republican nominee for the presidency of the United States, supported in a letter to Mrs. Mary Meled Bethune, founder and president of the Bethune-Cookman College, of Dayton, Florida. Mrs. Bethune is one of the outspoken supporters of the Colored race in American and has just retired from the presidency of the National Federation of Colored Women's Club. She has had the opportunity to study the condition of oppressed African Americans in and in Europe, having made a special trip to Europe last year for this purpose.
In a letter to the Republican election candidate Mrs. Bethune, declared:
"I have been reading with educated interest the various campaigns of Hoover, beginning with his speech accepting the nomination. I have noted the harmony of his personal character and the traditions of the nation, certain indifference to purity and certain indifference to purity, to administer to the needs of the country at large. I have noted the collaboration of our community in protecting the higher humanization needs and moral welfare of the populace."

All this furniture, Johnson, who had been studying her closely and editing the emotional play of her features, decided that it was time for him to break again.
He had been, editing closer and putting his long, slender hand on the back of her chest, I love you, so dearly.
"I present you anything and everything if you will become my wife. What more can I do, what more can I do than that?
"Mary me, and you will never regret it a single day of your life."
He also seemed to yield, his arm cropt on her shoulder and his face close to her.
"Mary me, he repeated softly, I adore you, honor you, respect you, darling."
Indeed, he had ever said so ardent to Marina.
Everything in Hainesville had been afraid to do so.
He had always aimed at all things of the flesh, though very devotionate in application.
No man of Johnson's position and education had ever so prostrated himself for war in some abject surrender.
It required Johnson's spirit of triumph womanhood within her.
He had still been acquainted with countless female ancestors who had successfully won their allies.
Though she would not have admitted it, she was won.

GOLDEN TEXT: "Now Abdieth Faith,

An Exposition of the Sunday School Lesson
For Sunday, Oct. 14, 1923
Ames, G. W. [1]
Abdieth
Felly a half century has passed since the Holy Spirit had been given at Pentecost and the Christian Church had started on its world's mission. During that first fifty years it had made commendable progress—organization had been formed over the greater part of the vast Roman Empire. When one takes into the account the hostility and persecution of the Jews and the opposition of foreign men, this property of standing mitzvahs. We have noted that on his third missionary journey Paul had visited the Churches he had founded on the first out-go trip, finally returning to Ephesus and finding it such a splendid field he remained there for about three years. While he was laboring there letters came from Corinth revealing the condition of the Church in that city. There were many things which meant it was during the residence in Ephesus that the First Epistle was written and dispatched by Titus and probably Timothy.
Dissentions had arisen over spiritual gifts which had been granted the Church by the work of the Holy Spirit, and it is to compose these differences and to point out the thus meaning of all spiritual endowments that the Apotheosis now acts as his task in these chapters. The points put forth in these chapters are by the ministry of the Church and were granted for the effective propagation of the gospel and the orderly development of the Church. 2. Paul illustrates this truth by comparing it with the human body in which and every member has its particular function for the good of the whole. This was a way timely illustration and was used in the work of the Church. 3. He varied administrations in His work of kingdom building—this principle is not to be found in the field of religion alone—but runs through all the spiritual and material universe. 4. He reaches a glorious elixim when he declares that he will show them a more excellent way and that he will show them a more excellent way. "One light but many colors; one Heaven, but many stars; one human mind, an infinite variety of types and temperaments; one field of work, but many trades and professions; thus fundamental unity breaks into endless variety, and this makes the picturesequence and ever changing in the beauty of our world. This also promotes the efficiency of our work, for it is only as we differ that we can have division of labor that vastly increases production in all fields." What a monolithic and uninteresting world would be if we were all alike? We would tire of the whole system of the Church.
Men in all ages and conditions have been curious to see manifestations of the supernatural, and this fact has made in every civilization, and even among the heathen a place for the wonder-worker, sorcerer, the witch doctor, the magician, the wizard, the sorcerer, the witch doctor, and there are so many cases like the story of King Saul and the witch of Endor that we have not been able to understand. In passing, it is but fair to say that, each town or city of any size has its fortune-letter and Clairvoyant, or spiritual-ite. And their patronage does not come from the ignorant and supernatural alone, but from the divine origin and commuas. It was necessary that the Christ should demonstrate his divine authority by working miracles and delegated that authority to His disciples but each miracle had an object—they were not performed to satisfy their curiosity to such He said "there shall no sign of the divine origin of the Spirit" gifts were bestowed to attest the divine origin of the Christian religion, but only as a means of propagation. But as too often the case in our day in many instances these exceptional powers are used to lord it over God's heritage, or parade them before the world. The gifts of the spirit are not the only means to note the difference in the gifts of the Spirit and the fruit of the spirit. The fruit of the spirit is expressed in the formation of Christian character—while on the other hand the gifts of the spirit impart special fitness to execute the task appointed by the Lord in the job of kingdom building. This is the reason why we have more so. Both are important but each has its special function.
It should be kept in mind that all gifts are from the same God and for his glory. It is some time illustrated from the common reservoir or great central power house. The humble cottage in the alley, and the stately mansion in the garden, are examples of gifts from the same source. So is does not matter how splendid our gifts they come from the same spirit, and remembering this fact should keep us humble. The More Excellent Way. The both used and abused in the matter of special gifts, and Paul argues in the interdependence of one member of the body on the other, he would lift the whole matter into a higher sphere—a more excellent way. The 18th chapter of the First Corinthians has been truly called the "Psalm of Love." As every lovely hughe is in the heart of the soul, as every loving bearer of burdens in the heat of the day; mindfulness is love expressing in sympathy for the less fortunate; generosity is love opening its bowels of compassion toward his neighbor in need; humility is love content to take the low best room at the heart; courtesy is love flowering itself out of the heart; generosity is love forgetting itself as it contemplates the good of others; hope is love finding the bright aide of dark and discouraging conditions when others see only the bad; joy is the sunshine of love breaking into its transcending music of love; purity is its robes of adornment more beautiful than the ropes of the sitting sun velled in lovely clouds.
Every Christian should know to memory the 18th chapter of the First Corinthians, and repeat it daily as his most. He will humbly recall that all of the richest suburbs of the world were filled with love. Greeks were moved by oratory — souquence, hence Paul declared "though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels and have not love I am not lath." — souquence will not command one to God. And now I am not lath. — souquence will not have love I am not lath. And yet have not love I am nothing. We have heard the most eloquent orations of the day—and during the period of their address they gripped us, but when it was over no
