For once it is going to put on a "rally"—a "financial drive" in order to start the work without embarassment. We owe a floating debt of three-hundred dollars which will shame us if it is not paid immediately. All the other churches including the Jewish brethren have made their pleas. The public generally, including our own members, have responded. Now that every body is happy, we are appointing the first Sunday in June to be our rally day.
We hope that every member of St. Mary's will set the example and that every friend of St. Mary's will attend a service on that day and bring a liberal contribution. Whatever amount is given over the floating debt of $300.00 will be paid or our mortgage debt of $1700.00 which we have carried for several years. There will be four services on the 1st Sunday in June;
7:30 p.m.—Holy Communion, Bishop D. T. Demby, celebrant
j.a. m.—Morning Prayer and sermon, Bishop Demby, preacher.
3:30 p.m.—Mass Meeting.
8 p.m.—Evening Prayer and Sermon by Bishop Demby.
As ever, faithfully yours,
D. E. Johnson, Sr.
Priest-in-charge, St. Mary's
405 Cottage st.
Sir W. H. Buchanan, Endowment Treasurer of the Knight of Tabor and Sir G. H. Evans, Endowment Secretary of the same order were prominent visitors in the city this city. Both are residents of Little Rock where Sir Buchanan is president of the newly organized laundry.
Hope you get the little box alright, and may your overwhelming sorrow soon be turned into comfort and joy by looking away from earth to Him who "doeth all things well."
Sincerely yours,
Ezra Maxwell,
Captain M. C. N. S. A.

A Night Riding gang sa to be composed of some of the most prominent white men in the Buckville section, 20 miles north west of Hot Springs have within the past few weeks been conducting a reign of terror among the colored residents seeking by acts of violence to drive them from their homes and secure possession of the fertile farm lands owned by the Negro contingent. Not only have homes been shot up, but dynamite was freely used and ever murder committed.' The Sheriff of Garland county on
have gone to the scene of trouble for the purpose of making arrests. Among the colored residents to suffer at the hands of the terrorists were Sue Bledsoe, Jeff Kelly, Jinsy Hill and the house of Jeff Hollis was blown off the face of the earth by dynamite. [Prosecute Hoskins is authority for the statement that every Negro family has been driven out and but one colored man remains, a preacher known as Doss Haily.
Scripture
151AH 55: 6–13
Seek ye the Lord while he may not be found, call ye upon him while he is near:
Let the wicked forsake his way and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.
For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.
For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may bring seed to the sower and bread to the eater:
So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing wherefore I sent it.
For so shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace, the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.
Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the birer shall come up the myrtle tree; and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.
National life, one of the most picturesque figures of the Negro race. A woman of millions made through business acumen and activity, rising from the humble rank of the washerwoman to mistress of a manor on the Hudson and a neighbor of the Rockafellows and other big oil through port cities, and carried out a career unequalled by any other woman of any race, making facts that looked and read like fiction. She was a philanthropist and just when preparing to use much of her great wealth for racial good, she was called from earth to reward. In her race has lost a great force of good. It was the Masses will and "God's ways" are post finding out."
EXPRESS APPRECIATION.
Mr. Editor:
Permit us, through your paper, to express our appreciation and gratitude, to our many friends, who so beautifully and encouragingly remembered our son on the event of his graduation last Friday night.
The many beautiful and useful tokens, together with the complimentary and encouraging words, are the source of great inspiration to him, to aspire and strive for father and higher advancement.
HIGH DAY AT EBENEZER BAPTIST CHURCH.

"Three special clubs—Rescue Club, Sister Paralee Kilborn, chairman, Friendship Club, Sister Bertha Lawson, chairman, Silver Leaf Coffee, Sister Ann Howard, chairman, worked zealously to make the rally a financial success. Their effort together with public contribution, resulted in $109.79 being raised. Pastor Venable and officers thank the members and friends for the kind assistance rendered.

A Torpid Liver
Leads to constipation and when constipation is present there is almost certain to be headache, urination, blissances, and later skin eruptions, and probably homoecholids. The great mistake is the great mistake in treating constipation with harsh purgatives. This should never be done.
