RACE LEADERS CONDEMN DOMESTIC DISORDERS "Much Ado About Nothing" Or "A Tempest in a Tea-Pot" "Race Leaders" Take Cold Feet HOUSTON'S LEADING AND BEST EDITED RACE NEWSPAPER VOL. 1 NO. 11. RACE "Much Or" So much has been written and said relative to the race, riot that never developed and in all probability will never take place here, that it appears hardly necessary to state anything else. But since The Houston informer, according to testimony of some of the "big niggers," was the local colored journal under discussion, the editor will have a few facts and expose the real game. In our issue of Saturday, July 19, the editors of *The Inquirer* a local daily and public concern, be cause it had launched a big contest among the contestants. Following the appearance several colored people notified the editors of the paper their paper. Personally I mailed such a paper day, July 21, and thus Thursday morning the appeared the mooted race riot. The Post editorial was calculated to do more domestic damage than all the editorials of the entire race press of the paper, and the fact no inflammatory editorial has ever appeared in any paper that I wrote. The editorial, but one race man in The Informer and he and his ilk deserve all the denunciations heaped upon As editor of the observer I never announced but one race man, editor by H. F. Edwards (my present child and friend) of the race in which we our客来 to disgusted and discontented memoirs C. P. with whom Edwards appear C. P. with whom Edwards appear ed because a real medium for expressing the race's desires, aims, aspirations and thoughts was on the scene, and he met Richardson in 'had' ever since, a meeting held in Hardaway's office to get Richardson in 'had' ever since, a cement tried to steam-roller a set of pusyfooting, pusillanimous and plaasitic elements present. In it these pseudo-leaders taught to denounce a "local Negro paper" words to whites and present a effect. (Mind you none has ever been published); that it made such editorial advice of the best people of the race; that they did not support it and that they were able to be represented by members of other races. The resolution was materially amended to the daily newspapers for publication, for forthwith "colored" it to satisfy these Huns of ebony hair from the lips of more man. Here is the committee of man. Here is H. Browley, H. Harley, E. O. Smith, and Dickson; Wm. Nickerson, Jr., and Dr. Lee refusing to serve on the committee appointed, influenced and ruled by Edwards. Excepting Browley every one has even attested to give me the advice to the Scribes came sore with me because he could not make me serve in a jumping-jack THE HOUSTON INFORMER "People don't know how I make my living," wrote the ad and ran it once through. "I don't know how to throw it." I left the Observer he was carrying an ad in it. After paying his respects to Gilmore he informed me out of that "sheet." (Notice his fickleness and flopping characteristics.) In a few weeks his ad had mysteriously disappeared. When the article appeared in The Informer regarding the Boutte affair, he wrote to Gilmore about the Orgen the organ shop, 413 Milam Street, Saturday, June 14, 1919, at 6:30 p. m. Edward remarked to me: "I have a friend in the person of Geo. Hammam, but I don't do business with him. He had seen Mr. Hammam honor a town bank with a check on an outtown bank with a check on the person of Geo. Hammam's pockets. Thus it will readily be seen that he foots the white folks. Wonder what the members of the N. A. A. C. P. local and foreignization's stand on all issues and question is well known and defined. It is hard to Taddeo to have a husky stand on the fold or fallen from "grace." Wonder what he is personally sure with me about matters connected with the local branch of the N. A. A. C. P. and had climbed the stairs about me, postponing a business trip to parade up the street and discussing what to do next. When we thought there was a possible chance of using my cellphones were just the right time to use me, he did him. Booze, and we were When his telephone was out of course of long duration, for several weeks Edwards used my telephone and was a constant companion, until he started to work. Then he has only been in my office once and then he brought a complaint to me Wednesday, July 16, in which he asked the Electric Company, David Daly, manager; also stating that he would take care of the damage dope never appeared in The Informer. This was done recently. The company proposed to place two men on "his" hand-pressed committee whom he has resigned to. He said he had a damn, in the persons of Ryan and Broyles. In fact he has often remarked: "Ain't a damn thing to the nigger in the world." The common people, they are my friends, and they must end his statement with me inserting here. Almost any honest and truthful member of the local community, they are my friends, and they must end his statement with the above insertion. He is a personal grudge against the Owner of Bryales, T. D. E. Bryani, R. L. Andrews, et al. he would be to death to see something awful happen to these would-be ham-fat leaders. When as editor of the Owner of Bryales letter, it was not Edwards that met me on Prairie Avenue and offered me a chance to interview him in case of violence. Said he on that occasion: "Continue to give me another brother you, sound the alarm. Nobody hurt you; well see that to that." Nobody doubted him; I refused his artillery and have not even needed it to this day. Kinda glad I "Han not endeavored to "infile" one in the community for the public to tell the public that I resumed as a lecturer the local branch N. A. A.C. P. C. (the observers) inserted an ad in the Observer-Free-preserve 19, rive the impression and Richardson. As a matter of fact he had no authority to insert such notice. In the first meeting of the local branch and all such notice the membership secondly Edwards had resigned as the membership committee, just as the孝子's appearance at the孝子's appearance had been accorded. But he wants to recruit Richardson because he wants to resume his reservation had been accorded. But he wants to recruit Richardson because he wants to resort to all kinds of schengen and mechanisms to accomplish his per Who can Honec Edward leads, lead tell us? What is there to him? As a lawyer, despite his literary failure, he washing, he has been a skeptic and out supporters or adherents, not having the respect and confidence of the race; as a citizen—need more to be a citizen—need more to be a citizen. He has done all within his power to have and destroy the U. R. L. Judge in Tampa and the same thing to Emancipation Park and has even INSTITUTED COURT OF HOUSTON. On all questions for civic or moral improvement Broyles races and greater race he opposes it for so much “PER.” Like the rest of the party, after the meeting Broyles admitted while in Dr. B. J. Gorman, after the meeting all of that excitement. When asked why he and his gang wanted to make me the scapegoat, when the mayor and council, the newspaper started all twinnings: morning stories start all to admit themselves criminists in participates to an offense or crime that was never committed or even committed so the police richly Cristianum. I have been writing columns on recent newspapers here for nearly four years, and no "inflammatory article" appeared until paper for nearly six years and no "inflammatory article" appeared until critical and unfair content it now has in operation. A blind man and a dog were both in the same "intellectuals" and "race leaders" these "intellectuals" and "race leaders" were either too stupid, ignorant or stupid. The fact in the case. Had that meeting been called to ask for better seats, the mayor or mayor's office or real democracy. you could not have shaken off the Berta Kranga, who wrote for The New York Times. Not only is he a subscriber to The New York Times, but he also agape he stopped me on Main Street in front of Rice hotel and at lestureb their office. In this way, he visited this one on "Some Poor Mater- nies," in which contested the ranking of the teachers of the two races. He further night that he printed papers out of business, for that was a good or business. RICHARDSON, EDITOR DISORD RIOTS IN WASHINGTON RED BY BLACK AMERICA EMMETT SCOTT HAS RACIAL RIOTS IN WASHINGTON DEPLORED BY BLACK AMERICANS DR. EMMETT SCOTT HAS A WORD (By the Associated Negro Press.) Washington, D. C.—Determination on the part of the colored population of Washington to apprehend the criminal guilty of the repeated assaults upon white women, the hope that he will be punished to the full extent of the law, and sorrow that such an act was incurred to reflect discredit on their race have been expressed in statements from prominent colored leaders of the city. Feeling that the action of the criminal has deleteriously affected all Washington's colored population, the District of Columbia branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has issued a statement urging that no left-bound lawlessness. The statement also those implicated in the outbreak of lawlessness. The statement affirms the fact that the action of the criminal has reflected discredit on all of Washington's population, and cites the action of the Chevy Chase Club in discharging colored caddies over 15 years old from the links, tortorization of innocent colored men in Montgomery County and the recent case in Washington, when a group of men who had colored boy with a rope until the police intervened. When the colored boy with a rope until the police intervened, the statement continues, "the black population becomes more important in some minds than the blackness of his crime, popular passions become further inflamed, without any increase in the chances for apprehending the criminal, but with grave possibility of injury to innocent people." The Emmett J. Scott, secretary-treasurer and business manager of Howe County, states that the colored population has no sympathy with the criminals, who tacks upon womanhood and the "region of terror" which has prevailed in certain portions of the District during the past week. The colored people of the District," he said, "in common with all good citizens, have no sympathy with criminals of any kind. The criminals, white or colored, should speedily be brought to justice through authorized authority and through the orderly procedure of the court proceeding." The Rev. A. C. Garner of the Plymouth Congregational Church, colored, stated that "it is extremely unfortunate that our race is producing so large a number of men who are guilty of crimes so shameful and disastrous to our race standing. We deplore particularly the class of outrage which this fugitive from justice is forced to have committed. It is my belief, however, that this No apology is necessary for any article ever written, not even for this one. There are other nangers in the woodpecker, who were not present at the event. I have other nangers there were, fully instructed to make Richardson the scapegoat. I wish to state to the public that have never been incendiary or racist oneside of oragonism, are committed wherever it exists, either in church or state. I have never preached racist race nor domestic disorders. I have told the truth and nothing wrong in the law, I have cried and begged for democracy and in my plea these political people, including these political hang-on, have applauded me and urged me on. I have repeatedly adamantly denied that I planked sixth plank in our platform reads: "Co-operation between the white and colored races on all matters of vital ```markdown ``` IT GETS YOU TOLD NOTHING ELSE 60 PER COPY SON, Editor-Publisher ORDERS WASHINGTON BLACK AMERICANS— SCOTT HAS A WORD Importance and less racial animosity and antagonism." GOLD! Four prizes will be awarded to the successful contestants at the LINCOLN THEATRE, TUESDAY NIGHT, SEPTEMBER 2, 1919. First Price—a $5 gold piece. Second prize—$3 in cash. Third prize—1 year's subscription to The Informer. Fourth prize—6 months' subscription to The Informer. OUR PURPOSE, AIM AND OBJECT In promoting this YARD CLEANING AND SANITATION CONTEST among our people in this city, The Houston Informer is mindful of the fact that "Righteousness and healthfulness exalt a nation, but sin and sickness are a curse to any people." This is a preventive rather than a curative age. "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." This contest is not launched to cheat the undertaker out of his means of a livelihood, nor to bankrupt the physician; but to prolong the lives of many members of our race who are dying premature and untimely deaths, due to insanity and unhealthy conditions existing mostly in our residential districts. The prizes do not represent much in monetary value, but it is a new departure for race newspapers in this part of the country to stage such a campaign and the success of this one will mean larger prizes next year. The incessant rains during the past months have grown weeds and bred mosquitoes and other carriers of disease, death, desolation and despair and we must do our duty to prevent the breaking out or spreading of any epidemic or disease, by cutting the weeds and grass, draining all ditches and cleaning up our premises generally. "IT WAS EVER THUS." Upon our Lord's public entry into Jerusalem, which occurred Sunday, April 2, A. D. 30. He was welcomed and acclaimed by the multitudes. Read St. Matthew's account of that memorable incident: 21.8. And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees and strewed them 9. And the multitudes that went before and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord. 10. Friday evening of the same week, April 7, read what St. Matthew regarded the attitude of this same Sunday crowd in the presence of the erstwhile Hero, the accusing, sensational and spectacular Sandhiern court and "Boss" Plate. 12. 27:22. Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let Him be crucified. 13. And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let Him be crucified. Thus the fickleness, capriciousness and instability of mankind is demonstrated. See how His former supporters, adherents, devotees and worshippers became His enemies virtually overnight and our Savior was left as a prisoner through an ignominious and shameful death, offered Himself a propitiation for the sin of the world. When Christ was turning water to wine for the festival occasion; when He was restoring sight to the blind, causing the lame and maimed to walk, the deaf to hear, the dumb to speak, causing the palay, cleansing the lepers, bringing the multitudes miraculously and yet, sufficiently and with such palatable edibles that they wanted to make Him king; when He stilled the tempestuous and buffeting billows and made the rough and wrathy sea to become as quiet and gentle as a little babe, when he is wafted into the arms of morpheus as melodious and sonorous lullabies palef from maternal lip—when He performed these superhuman and supernatural He was a great man in the eyesight of His contemporaries. When he cast conventionality to the four winds and plucked ears of corn passing through a field on the Sabbath day; when He delivered that immortal and matchless sermon on the mount, while the waves in the background sang paes of the city and changers and gambers; when He began to reach the truth, which pricked men's hearts and made the fur fly; when He thundered the doctrine of religious democracy; when He exercised freedom of speech; when He denounced the ancient customs and practices; when He struck sin a knobbed sickle and fitted Him a whip; when He had ecclesiastical potentates and luminaries and would not subscribe to their preachments and practices; when He refused to be bought or influenced by designing politicians and literary puppets; when He read the scriptures as one having authority and not as a scribe; when He lambasted and flogged unclean men; when He called radical, rabid, inflammatory, an impostor, fakir, dangerous leader, blasphemer, scoundrel, rascal, malcontent, discontent, insurrectionist and a hundred other vile names. His enemies began to pimp on Him and "blabble" to the authorities their construction and interpretation upon His every utterance and intentionally misconstrued His every act, because He did not want to be a victim of the devil. He had convictions and opinions and He was not too cowardly to give expression to them. He preached destruction of the old order of things and proclaimed and heralded the advent of a new order of things. He church and church, plutooracy, aristocracy and mobocracy in both He taught the "fatherhood of God and brotherhood of man" doctrine. He advocated the Golden Rule as a successor to the Mosaic retaliatory law of "an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." He was both an evolutionist, revolutionist and "confusionist." He threw terror into the hearts of those guilty of wrongdoing by making them immune from any scathing arrangements for their immune system by a little religious upstart and carpenter's son. They could exorcize and show up others' shortcomings, but it was against the unwritten law for this little insignificant teacher—a "newcomer"—to try to tell them anything. If he dared to, they would show Him where to "head in." His contemporaries because of His humanitarian work and utilitarian spirit and His followers were legion. Despite their long residence in Jerusalem and other cities these "old timers" had followed the line of least resistance and had con- tinued to live in their little shell of selfishness and hypocrisy. They practiced one thing and preached another for expediency's sake; they had a job, they were cringing towards and later proved themselves comparing curses. Notwithstanding all their efforts and the death of Christ, these enemies were not able to stop or even retard the onward rush of His religion and today Christianity—the product of it so-called radical, rabid, blasphemous, dangerous, half-baked, so cracked former and relentless sinner—is born to his humanity. Today men bury you beneath an avalanche of flowers and submerge you with praise, encomiums, compliments and handshakes; they consider it an honor to be numbered among the acclaiming and proclaiming multitude. But when the "sandhirn" and "sandhirn" are not present, the fallacious accusations, due to prejudice on their part and envy on the part of your people—the bouquet and hosanna crown becomes a bunch of cowardly, cringling and conspiring outlaws, mobbists and anarchists and cry aloud: "Lynch him! Crucify him! Get rid of him! Kill him! He is not of us! Crucify him!" He has fallen heir to these illies, it were better to endure them, perhaps, than to fly to those we know naught of. The progress of man is not far removed from the cavenan and cliff-dweller. ALL THE HEATHEN ARE NOT IN AFRICA NOR ARE ALL THE HUNS IN GERMANY! The pathway to success may be strewn with a few roses, but the path to success will be a struggle and the way is made by force, for labor conquer all things. Let us emulate Jesus Christ; follow His teachings and all the efforts of those who seek to do us evil will meet failure and like Judas iscariot, the enemy will commit suicide.
