Boston, Mass.—One of the highest positions ever held by a colored man has been recently given to William Solder, a colored inventor, by the Solder Improved Stove Company when they elected him president of their company. This is all the more remarkable when one considers that all of the other directors are white men and well-to-do business men of Boston. They have backed Solder in his invention, and are doing all in their power to promote his company. The stove is one of the most remarkable inventions that has appeared for some time. Mr. Solder has perfected what others have been working on for years—combine a cooking stove and hot water heater to enable of both coal or gas. This stove also does away with the large cumber- MODERN AMERICANS' SUPREME COUNCIL TO PUSH ITS BIG DRIVE High officials from various sections of the state found their way into Houston Saturday and Sunday, to be present at the called session of the supreme council of the Modern Americans, which convened Monday, 10 a.m., in the Taborian Building. The financial business of the order was conducted in a very pleasant manner and showed the status of the order to be in excellent condition. The council was directed Saturday and Sunday at J. H. Horn's Cafe, where elaborate preparations were made and delicacies served that contributed much to a pleasant and delightful occasion. Republicanism Versus "Lily-Whiteism" Republicanism Versus "Lily-Whiteism" A man is not always judged by the company he keeps, but rather by the company that keeps him, and in this respect many men with clean records have gone down in ignominy and shame. The fortunate part of the local situation is that the race is pulling off its splitting its forces and an exertion affording our man an exertion to score a factory victory and thus entrench themselves in positions of honor, trust and authority. While admitting that any republican elector has the constitutional rights to announce for any honor within the gift of the man, the man is not the victim of the fact that a man's physical appearance, his fraternal connections, his business associations and realty holdings do not constitute the qualifications for the election to such positions. Great care and precaution must be exercised in selecting delegates to the republican national convention, both from the state-at-large and congressional districts, who will not reflect upwards of great interest in thinking patriotic voters; men who can think for themselves and who stack up and compare favorably with delegates of the other race because of their brains and inherent qualities rather than their size and home residence in the community. The charge that Davis is a "newcomer" here and therefore should not be given the honor to represent the district in the mayoral race to rot and bunk, as well as false, absurd and ludicrous. Before coming to Houston in September, 1915, Davis taught for nine years in Waller County, thus giving him a residence in the city, which he about 14 years. (The eighth congressional district is composed of four counties: Grimes, 1 vote; Harris, 30 votes; Fort Bend, 3 votes; Waller, 2 votes; toff. If the opposition to Davis thinks that by lining up a candidate favorable to the "lily-whites," the liquor interests and other forces inimicable to good government they can make a vicarious impact on the mayor, forces they have reckoned without their host. The liquor question has been settled by constitutional amendment and as is dead as Hector; so fall not for it. It has been rumored around town that the latest candidate of this "lily-white" gang was only induced by strong and persistent arguments to make the race against Davis, and that after all a "big boys" had positively and emphatically refused to be sacrificed in such a ruthless manner. The majority of the colored voters (and they constitute the bulk and voting strength of the national district) are unalterably opposed to those alleged white republicans who are trying to raise the "race issue" in the party, and they hold in utter contempt and contumely any colored man who will serve as a leader in this "lily-white" combination. Furthermore, the main district as delegate must have a constructive record and must be able to measure arms with white and colored delegates from every state in the national district. He must be a man who will have initiative, foresight and must be possessed with certain innate ability. He must be an asset rather than a liability to both the race and party, and must not go around in the vest pocket of some designing politicians. In campaigns of this nature personalities must be thrown to the four winds; principles must stand above price; patriotism above self; measures above men; party fidelity and loyalty above men and niggerself above men; republicanism above imperialism; republicanism above "lily-whiteism." The bunch backing the opposition candidate reminds one of an old maids' convention; they object to everything and personal advocates of Southern aristocracy, autocracy and oligarchy, these "lily-wits" of ebony (if such a combination is not possible in a physical realm) have a dead issue and are long will have a deader candidate. These old-timers have their day; they have shot their best bolt and now they spend their days as a tale that is told. They are a congressional district and of Texas must bear in mind that there are only two issues involved in the present political fight between the republican party. Any man that is dependent" or intimates that he is strife the fence in such a crisis where the interests of his race and party are at stake is deceiving no one but himself, is a base for the vice and an enemy to his country. The issues are: Americanism and republicanism, led and championed by Col. E. H. R. Green of Terrell; Hon. Ed. M. Carthy of Galveston; Harry M. McAld of Fort Worth. W. L. Davis of Houston and other free and unpurchasable republican electors stand on one side; while "lily-wishism," political aristocracy and autocracy, under the tender care and able tutelage of MacGregor ad Robert Nichols of Fort Worth (who has never voted a republican ticket) George Rockhold of Dallas, Phil Baer of Paris, R. B. Creager of Brownsville and their bunch of "nigger - hating" demagogues and a few colorful pussyfrocks to sell their race and party for a few messy pieces of silver COMING-NEXT WEEK "SLAVES OR FREEMEN? WHICH SHALL IT BE?" An Editorial Bearing Upon the Republican Political Situation in Texas. "LILY-WHITE" PROGRAM OF TEXAS REPUBLICAN COUNCIL LAID BARE; M'GREGOR ENDORSES ITS AIMS There has been so much talk about the platform, program and policy of the "Texas Republican Council," which first saw the light of political day in the star chamber in one of Fort Worth's white hotels, with C. C. Littleton, a discredited and disappointed democrat serving in the leading role, that The Informer is glad to print a document sent the Fort Worth colored republicans by this "illy-white" organization. This is the organization whose political elimination of the colored republicans meets the unqualified endorsement of G. O. P. National Committee H. F. MacGregor of Houston, as well as his white cohorts and his ebony-hued political concubines. Fellow-republicans, read this damnable, dastardly and demagogic document for yourselves and then decide if you can subscribe to such an un-American, unrepublican and undemocratic program and follow the leadership of any man that has the stamp of approval of this illegitimate political misfit. Here "it" goes and here's hoping that colored and white republicans throughout Texas will knock this "illy-white" regime and all their henchmen and stool-pigions into smithereens; I. The name of this organization shall be the Fort Worth Negro Republican Club. II. The purpose of this organization shall be to study the fundamental principles of government and of society and to better prepare the colored race for citizenship and to make them more useful units of society. III. We recognize the color line as a wise provision of nature and the separation of the races as a basic principle of society upon which all organized activities must rest. IV. We give thanks to God, to Abraham Lincoln, to the republican party and to the people of the United States, that we are a free people enjoying the constitutional rights of American citizens are given to us for their partnership in civilization and the heritage of living in peace and prosperity under Southern skies. V. It shall be one of the primary objects of our organization to encourage its members to exercise the right of suffrage and the right of petition BUT WE RENOUNCE ANY DEIRE TO TAKE PART IN THE MANAGERIAL AFFAIRS OF THE PARTY OR OF GOVERNMENT. VI. The members of our organization are pledged to vote the republican ticket in general elections and TO TAKE NO PART IN PARTY CONVENTIONS OR OCCUPY OFFICIAL POSITIONS IN THE GOVERNMENT. Fellow-constituents, "that'll git it," don't you think so? When one hears and reads the utterances of the real big men of the republican party and then notices the actions and statements of the supposed leaders of the Texas G. O. P., the latter's "single-track" mind, smallness and civic incapacity are readily seen. The real republican party, even in Texas, is too big, politically grand and humanitarian, to be dominated and destroyed by a bunch of political pigmies and federal pie-bunters, who are so anxious for a small federal job for themselves or their friends that they are performing a political "shimmy" and "wopsy." As the republican electors, let us support genuine republicans, such as Col. E. H. R. Green, Hon. Ed McCarthy, Harry Bec, Wm. M. McDonald, "Bill" Davis and others who have not bowed down their baal nor gone off after strange gods. There must be a general housecleaning in the Texas G. O. P. and since so of us were not going to be a part of the skin and just forever from office and positions of power the internal enemies of Americanism and republicanism—Texas" "illy-white" combination. are arrayed on the other side. Go to the prefect conventions Saturday, May 1, 1920, and elect delegates that will represent your ticket. Any man, white or black running on an opposite ticket is a traitor to the race and party and must be defeated. BOOST FOR DAVIS' CANDIDATE's true and tried; he is not aspiring for juniorship at the local federal building. The day has passed when any big-bellied, loud-mouthed, "meto-boss" bison can lead our race. The day for hand-picked passers, and he who attempts to serve in said role is simply a "white man nigger" and merits the excoriation, denunciation and race-loving man and woman. The race's condition today, in the South, is due largely to ignorant and unprincipled leadership following the civil war; such men then and such molly now are more acceptable to the military to detrimental to our cause because they are easily preyed upon and will stoop to serve the hour. Having performed the "squatting act" with such regality, they such stunts have become their second, if not their first, nature. The saloon crowd and "booze boys" have sent out the word that Davis must be defeated, trying to resurrect the prohibition issue as a political camouflage against war policies, the opponents to Davis are sowing to the wind and will reap the whirlwind; they are playing with fire that will eventually consume them and back the attack. BACKING AND SUPPORTING EH. HALL ARE LINED UP WITH MacGREGOR AND HIS "LILY-WHITE" MACHINE, and since Hall is their candidate he must be aware of the fact. If Hall knows that his candidate is the "ily-whites" and still remains in the race, he proves himself unworthy of the respect and confidence of his colleagues; and the republican elector of color that casts a vote for him or any man of his lik brands himself or another. Bear this in mind; ANY COLOR MAN WHO LINES UP WITH THE "LILY-WHITES" HAS SOLD HIMSELF AND HIS RACE FOR A PRICE AND IS DANGEROUS CHARACTER, for a PRICE PLE IS INVOLVED IN THE PRESENT ISSUE In time of war all internal traitors and spies are killed, imprisoned or deported, generally the former. Due to the fact that the demand on last week's Informer exceeded the supply, because of the article below and in order to at least try to satisfy him, hundred people who have begged him to fund the campaign claiming for "just one copy of last week's hot issue," we are going to ask the public's indulgence for a repetition of the article, deeming it necessary for those who did not get a copy to read the facts about Texas "illy-white" regime—Editor() The Informer took no stock in boosting or attending the "jim-crow" republican pow-wows or meetings held at colored Carnegie Library Thursday afternoon, March 4, and at Main Street Auditorium that night, when National Committeeman H. F. MacGregor, County Chairman Roy B. Nichols, R. B. Creager of Brownsville and others of the leaders in the "illy-white movement in the Texas republican party brought Senator Warren G. Harding of Ohio to Texas to boost his candidacy for the republican presidential nomination. While not agreeing with the master of ceremonies, who introduced Senator Harding to the "colored brothers" as the "next president of the United States," The Informer has no particular criticism for the distinguished Ohio; his only trouble was that he was running with the wrong gang. In his brief remarks to the "colored brothers" at the MacGregor - Nichols - Creager "jim-crow" meeting, the senator kindly informed them that he was not used to addressing republicans in racial groups, and, after succinctly setting forth his views and assuring them of his genuine Americanism and stalwart republicanism, he kindly invited them to hear him that night. The colored contingent at both meetings, excepting a few true and tried republicans, was composed of henchmen and hangers on of MacGregor and his "illy-white combination—individuals who don't give a continental about principles as long as their mitts are greased, they are given a few empty honors, patted on the backs by these political hypocrites and dubbed "good niggers." The Informer does not want to be misunderstood; it is not condemning any republican or citizen who availed himself of the opportunity to hear Senator Harding; but it wants to voice its most strenuous objections to the continuation of this "jim-crow" program of MacGregor and his henchmen. Any man, be he black, white, red or yellow, that places filthy lucre and empty honors above principles and civic righteousness is unfit for citizenship and should be denied his elective franchise rights. Any black man who is willing to submit and subscribe to the pernicious and perfidious program of the Texas "illy-withes," as announced and advocated by the "Republican Council," of which H. F. MacGregor is the chief elder, and which published broadcast to the world last fall its avowed intent and purpose of eliminating the colored man from the republican councils in Texas and reducing him to political servitude—any black man that says that he can consistently and conscientiously embrace such doctrines and follow the leadership of such un-American and unrepublican political hybrids is either a political reprobate, a Judas Iscariot or a blankety blank fool. Republicanism knows neither color, class or creed. It is opposed to class and caste pro scripture, either customary or legislative. This Houston "jim-crow" affair shows the real heart and caliber of the men in Texas who would destroy the party and reduce its voting strength and resultant power by excluding from its ranks and affairs American citizens who were unfortunate enough to be born into this mundane sphere with dark skins, Shades of Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. These reputed republicans show by their antics and actions that they have no more business in the republican organization, as the party is now constituted, than an orang-outang has in the halls of congress. Let "Mistah" MacGregor and his "jilly-white" adherents and devotees read what National Chairman Will H. Hays recently uttered in a speech: "The great power, which is the spirit of America, must not tolerate GROUP AGAINST GROUP, SECTION AGAINST SECTION, or GROUP AGAINST AGAINST AGAINST this as you would against a pettition. The nation has no greater enemy than one who opposes itself. REMEMBER GROUP MAN BETTER THAN ANOTHER WHEN HE DOES BETTER. Give every well-beloved man and against itself EQUALITY AND PORTUNITY, and require from them their FULL MEASURE OF ACCOUNTING. Live and live! and not enough—and help live—and as you live and help live always exact JUSTICE and enforce it." Speaking before the recent session of the Lincoln League in Chicago, this distinguished exemplar of Americanism and republicanism vehemently denounced and exorcized those in the party who raise the "race question," stating that the "COLONED MAN HAS THE SAME RIGHTS IN THE REPUBLIC CAN PARTY, TO PARTICIPATE IN ITS AFFAIRS AND HOLD OFF, AS ANY OTHER MEN." The Informer would like for some "illy-white," especially the Texas national committee, to arise and tell this waiting harmonize their Texas program with the national program, policy, platform, traditions and tenets of the "grand old party." The views of Mr. Hays and Mr. MacGregor are as fundamentally different as day is from night, and vice versa; the former believes in and is working hard for a party and government of, for and by the people; while the latter and his cohorts, mostly seekers after federal pie, are working with might and main for a party and government of, for and by A PEOPLE. The former's platform is both Christian, American, republican and democratic, in the larger sense of the last term employed; while the "illy-white" program is both un-Christian, un-American, unrepublican, undemocratic, but is autocratic, aristocratic, plutocratic, mobocratic, "hellocritic" and diametrically at variance with the magna charta—Declaration of Independence—of the American republic. The "illy-white" propagandists would rob the most deserving and loyal racial unit in this country of their inableen rights and privileges voucafshed and made possible by republican administrations; a party whose deeds have been emblazoned on the pages of history, never to be effaced, for its humanitarian and altruistic accomplishments. Take it from The Informer, no man, despite the color of his skin or texture of his hair, is a true republican who objects to all deserving men and women participating in the party affairs; who believes that ne plus ultra should be written in the pathway of any man in either civic, political or religious life. When any man or set of men reach the point in their political career as republicans that they consider themselves higher and bigger than the fundamental principles and tenets of the party and would seek to arrogate all authority and power unto themselves, and, kaiser-like, dictate an obnoxious and distasteful poli-cabalistic damnable, dangable, diabolical and damnable completely out of harmony and accord with the history of the party—when that day arrives, such men are no longer worthy of republicans and should not only be controlled of the affairs of the organization, but they should be excommunicated from the party and sent on to the well-known "nigger-hating" party to which longing and from which sprang. What is "illy-whiteism?" It is a political bastard, born of illegitimate political birth. It is a species of political offspring that thrives best in the dark, in commodious office quarters. It receives its greatest impetus and largest encouragement from republican nor democratic; who believe that a white skin is a badge of the party and that a dark skin is a badge of dishonor and inferiority. These "lily-whitees" believe that they assemble in a meeting with colored republicans they have been stained and polluted and are no longer worthy of representation and commitment and respect of their white comrades. There is a movement on foot in Texas to divest these enemies of the party and government of their official authority. They have abused the high offices of the party and the government of their encampment and a desire to perpetuate the party principles, maintain undefiled and sacred its trust, and keep its record untarnished and unblemished; and in order to make safe for Americans, being made safe for Americans, will be made safe for colored republican electors, as well as true and tried white republicans; in order to accomplish these things, and many more, a new leadership must be secured that will be birthed to brightfire for a maze of potage. "Lily-whitehirs" soffs at the constitution and,regards it as a "mere scrap of paper," to be torn up or disregarded at will. In the place of orderly government by all citizens, they would establish a combination autocracy-autocracy-aristocracy and make a matter of a social test, giving a most rigid examination for all applicants and admitting none who favor "equal rights to all, all special privileges to none." They believe that the preachment of "all men up, no man down," is political heresy, and would banish to endless exile those who preach and contend with the enemy, by Lincoln, Roosevelt and Wood. They class as agitators, disturbers and radicals all colored electors who object to such an unspeakable, uncalled-for and uncivilized political modus operandi. They pick a few hungry and unprincipled men here and there and hand them four bits and a few 10-cent cigars, give them a lot of taffy in the shape of praise and laudation, and promise them a few minor offices, such as janters in the army, dusters, dust machines, dusters and other laxey jobs in case of republican victory, and these poor mortals fall for their dope and betray and bartar not only their race (a sufficient cause for Benedict Arnold and Jusas Isarcis to the republican party and the American government. EVERY TIME ANY MAN LENDS HIS AID AND ASSIST- PAGE 3 ANCE TO ANY CAUSE OR MOVEMENT THAT IS UNAMERICAN AND THAT SAVORS OF CLASS AND CASTE PROSCRIPTION AND THAT WOULD ADVANCE ONE SET OF PEOPLE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE OTHER, THAT MAN IS AN ENEMY TO HIS COUNTRY AND IS UNDERMINING THE FOUNDATIONS ON WHICH THIS REPUBLIC WAS CONSTRUCTED BY THE CONSCRIPT FATHERS IN DAYS OF YORE. The other two delegates on the Green-McCarthy ticket will be colored reprezented by the successor, be the men to develop the greatest amount of strength in pre-convention campaigns. Hon. William M. ("Goose Neck Bill") McDonald of Fort Worth is the choice of all real republicans for those职位 positions and will be elected. The Informer wants to put the colored republicans of South Texas on guard against the insidious propaganda of the Macarthy movement, the Green-McCarthy movement is simply for the purpose of placing North Texas in control of the Texas G. Colonel Green is a resident of Kaufman County, located in Central Texas, which is the location of Galveston County, located in the southern southern portion of Texas. No, neighbor, this movement was launched for the express and avowed purpose of placing the colored republicans of Galveston publicans and electing delegates that believe in a representative republican party, and to rid Texas as forever of the curse and blight of "blip-whiteism," which ought to bring strength from over 200,000 to 189 less than 13,000 in 1918. Colored voters, if you want a "going-out" party, then continue to support MacGregor and his yli-white "organization" and bring-in-and-growing-up" organization, rally to the standards of genuine and blood-bought republicans—men who refuse to flirt with disgruntled democrats under promise of a few measly votes, if they will "eliminate the Negro from the councils of the republican party." Texas' national committee, the F. W. H. Clinton, is a stanchist supporter of Littleton's star chamber "lily-white" party and openly declared in the recent state executive meeting that "I AM WILLING TO BE A LACKEY FOR ANY MAN OR SET OF MEN WHO WILL CONTRIBUTE $500,000 FOR A REAL STATE." Are you willing to follow a lackey leadership, willing and ready to sell the party, lock, stock and barrel, for a price? God forbid! These primary conventions shall elect delegates to the county executive committee, which shall be held on the 4th of May, 1920. The qualified voters, (those with a poll tax or a certificate of honorable exemption, or an honorable soldiers' discharge) of each voting precinct of the county shall assemble on the date named, and shall be presided over by a chairman who is a member of the county executive committee by the county executive committee of the party, and shall be a qualified voter in said election precinct; and said convention may elect from among their number a secretary and such other officers as may be necessary to conduct the business of the convention. GOLDEN TEXT—Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thafkaggiving, and honor, and power, and might be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.—Rev. 7:12. PRIMARY TOPIC — The Heavenly Home. JUNIOR TOPIC.—A Glimpse of Heaven. INTERMEDIATE AND SENIOR TOPIC —A Vision of the Glorious Future. YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULT TOPIC —Permanent Message of the Book of Revelation. 1. Who they are (v. 9, 11). (1) Released men (v. 9). (2) are mutly Gentiles "of all nations, kindness and people, and tongues." They are those to whom the "governs" and converties by converted Israelists (Matt. 24:14). In the first part of chapter seven we saw God sealing his chosen ones from the kingdom of God in their forebanks, which doubtless means the supernatural endowment of the Holy Spirit on the last days (Jesus 2:28-32). While this time we see the kingdom of Postecost, its larger realization is still future (Aesis 2:15-21). This outpouring is for the equipment of the Jews for their ordained multitude of men in the kingdom to the whole world. When God sends forth the 144,000 Jews with the uction of the Holy Spirit, the innumerable multitude of men in the kingdom to the slain Lamb, their redemption. (2) All the angels (v. 11). These angels indorse this ascription of praise offered by these redeemed men. 2 Whence came these redeemed? (v. 13, 14). They came out of the great tribute (v. 14). After the death of the king (v. 15), 18, awful days of suffering and trial shall come upon the world (H Thess. 2, 7, 8). It is the time of sorrow among the people, such way; such days as were not before nor shall be after, in which if not shortened no flesh could be saved (Matt. 24, 15, 22; cf. 11, 7, 8; 9, 26, 27; 10, 11, 12). Salvation to our God and the Lamb (v. 10). They salute their salvation to God through the sacrifice of the Lord (v. 11). They acknowledge that all blessings come from him (3). "Gleury." They acknowledge him as the glorious one and the one to whom all glory should be given (4). They will faithfully wife and all wisdom comes from him (5). "Thanksgiving," because salvation was provided by him (6). They will be to him in high esteem (7). "Power and night." They recognized that all power inherited in the Worship. 11. The Blessedness of the Worship. 1. They are before God's throne (vv. 9, 15). They are in heaven and near the throne of God. Jesus Christ is now preparing minnsons for those who shall go to heaven (John 14:1-3). 2. Clothed with white robes (vv. 9, 14). Their white robes suggest their character. They have been made such in the blood of the Lamb. The only way for a sinner to be made ready for heaven is through the blood of Christ. 3. They hear palm brinches (v. 9). The significance of the palm is found in the use that the Jews made of it at the Feast of Tabernacles. It was a time of great joy, because it represented the gathered harvest. The bearers of the palm branches will experience the blessedness of not only being in heaven, but of enjoying rewards for their work on earth. 4. They serve God day and night (vv. 15). Heaven is not a place of idleness, or altogether of stinging God's prains, but a place where real, vital service is rendered to God; indeed, there are nobler fields of endeavor awaiting us beyond this life. This life is but a training school in which we are made ready for service in heaven. 5. God dwells among them (v. 15). To get to heaven at all will be truly blessed, but to be there and have God come will be truly blessed. 6. Hunger will not narcissist (v. 10). Here life is a continuous round of hungering and thirsting. In heaven we shall not hunger nor thirst; in earth we shall not hunger nor thirst. The straits and necessities of life will be over. 7. Neither shall the sunlight or best come upon them (v. 17). 8. God will all tour from their eyes (v. 17). This Day Only.
