The nomination came to him after the colored voters had bolted the "regular" convention where only white men were seated as delegates. Blunt declares he will make an active campaign and thus show to the country at large that the colored republicans are the only bona fide members of the organization in the state of Arkansas. He is the first colored man in the history of the state to run for governor. His chances for election are not flattering. The Methodist churches are on a strike. Ministers all gone on a conference. Mrs. Matilda Motley was here Saturday. David Alexander died at Chapel Hill Friday and Sunday. The Harris shortened school night was defeated by rain: The county convention has come and gone. A friend of mine is responsible for a joke about one of the black "lily-white" henchmen at the eighth congressional convention held in the City Hall Saturday. This man, who always opposes everything that he does, was afraid to enter the council chamber, apparently, after the Waller, Fort Bend and Harris Counties delegates bolted at Nichols' arbitrary and unheard of ruling. A "lily-white," beholding the black "bull-sheev" justus, did not know that he was one of their henchmen and being so prejudiced and biased against colored republicans), said: "Nigger, why don't you go on with that gang of niggers from here!" The "lily-white" either combination is possible) turned purple in the face and begged his boss to please "don't run me away." Bolted 8th Dist. Convention. The newspaper report that Hon. Lucius Humphrey, recognized county chairman of Fort Bend County republican organization, remarked that "Ise to bot,叫 it," as on that occasion he fell from the lips of the blackest impas of the plutocratic regions. Mr. Humphrey is an intelligent and prosperous citizen in his community and conducted himself in a high-class manner and decent order, despite the fact that Roy B. Nichols, who claims that someone simply had "fixed up" white county chairman from Fort Bend County. Nichols, who was disqualified to preside even in the executive session of the congressional executive committee, as his county was in a contest, refused to leave the chair, but was not permit Humphrey to have a vote, claiming that the contest was a "failure" of Fort Bend County. He set up the same thing about Waller County and then said that no credentials had been sent in from Waller. When Prof. Davis arose and remarked that he was in Waller County and could testify that the credentials were sent, Nichols, the "grimliner" Roy" mystified" the case, but found some excuse to fail to permit Mr. R. S Jackson, Waller County chairman, to sit in executive session The point was raised that as Harris County was in a contest and as Nichols was involved, he was disqualified. The office of the executive committee and judge act as chief witness, judge, juror and executioner in his own case, as he did in the county executive committee; but Roy refused to vacate the chair, and the county some supposed county chairmen from Fort Bend and Waller Counties and held his own executive committee, leaving the bona fide and regular members of the executive committee on the at this juncture, seeing that Nichols and his gang were bent on cheating and stealing and after having seen that justice was impossible with such a kaiser as Nichols in the case the bona fide from Waller County and Fort Bend Counties and the contesting delegations from Harris County, repaired to By Doc Dippy. one side of the council chamber and held the real convention for the eighth congressional district. It was not held in the corridors as published in a white daily paper. Shelton was elected temporary chairman; Prof. A. W. Jackson temporary secretary. A temporary roll of the delegates was made and then the temporary organization was made permanent. Prof. W. L. Davis of Harris County, was elected delegate for the eighth congressional district to the republican national convention, which meets in Chicago, June 8; Lucius Humphrey, Fort Bend County, was elected alternate; Judge J. Hannay, Wallee County, was elected as presidential elector of the eighth congressional district. The convention assembled denounced "lily-whiteism" and allisms that brought dissension in the republican ranks. Macedogor and Nichole, leader of the South Team, were condemned and the Green - McCarthy - McDonald-Grigsby program endorsed. Where Is the Lock? The "ily-whites" refused positively and emphatically to send even a colored alternate to the Chicago convention, and the team had advertised it that Ed H. Hall would be nominated by the Hon. Lock Momething. But from last reports this Lock had not unlocked and thus Brer Hall was left on outside looking in, Oh morn. Sure. He Was Elected! EXTRA! Ed H. Hall elected delegate—from preconvention form No. 13 to county convention, and from preconvention form Nichols compelling Bailey & Sparks, their heenchman and preconvention chairman, to change hour of convention on day of election, posting notices to the contrary. Precinct 19 Procedure. The individual who charges that the electing of a temporary set of officers in precinct No. 19 was a violation of the state law is either densely ignorant and a blatant-mouthed denier. There is a vast difference between the current election and a precinct convention. In an election the election judges are appointed and empowered to officiate throughout that day's election, since it is not a delegated convention. In a delegated convention (the congressional, state or national) when the chairman calls the convention to order, the future actions are determined by the voters or delegates present. It is then up to the people to say who shall preside, act as secretary, congressional-arms, or vice preses, etc. This has been the law both in the republican party since its birth and when such rights are abridged, the G. A. O.P. ceases to be a party of the T. R. PEOPLE and becomes at once a party of the state. This is done in republican precinct conventions, but even the democrats, who are not given as much latitude and leeway under the Terrell election law as parties polling less than 100,000 and more than 10,000 votes, pursue such method, in the election of May 1, the democrats chose a chairman after the precinct chairman had called the convention to order in precinct No. 87. No state law can be enacted that will take away from any delegated convention its so-called rights nor divest the deleterious of their constitutional rights. If the law had been violated, it was the duty of some voter to appeal to the house after the chairman ruled that the manner of procedure was both legal, customary and republican. the chair had to such extent that he employed by Ed Williams in Precinct No. 14, then it would have been within the province of the voters to have done the next best thing. Furthermore, what right did Roy Nichols, who was a voter in precinct No. 19, have come here and employed by H. H. and other foreigners and hold a rump convention in the streets? If precinct No. 19 convention was illegal and irregular, why did Chairman W. C. Bosley remain with said convention, participate in its deliberation, bring in a minority report serving on the committee, come as a resolution to the county convention from said precinct on the roll of delegates elected in said convention, styled "irregular and illegal" by Nichols and his "yellow" bootleather?
