HOUSTON GETS U.B.F. GRAND LODGE HOME EDITION VOL. V. HOUSTON Mammoth A Galveston To Colonel Rescoe Coulkin Simm journalist of Chicago, Louisville agagement at the city auditorium heard and cheered by an auditor municipal building. City mail co. and womens, klan and alma gin his remarks; several white wom the spaker made an impassion and square deal for all Americans a masterpiece. The Galveston Morning News, Tex- tans oldest white daily newspaper, curried the following story concerning the occasion: PATIENCE IS NEEDED Learn from Whites. THE HOUSTON INFORMER Progress of Negro. In opening his talk the speaker declared that Texas was the only state in the union within the last ten years that would never replace the Norwegians, despite their immigration. In touching on the propaganda imposition of Europeans to help harvest farm crops, he said that they would never replace the Norwegians, despite their immigration, and would somen get tired of giving them calm each Saturday night, taking them out of the name it in trade. They say the Negro is illiterate; they say the Norwegians only you gave him the pen fifty years ago. They complain that he is late, but it must be remembered that he worked hard to rest some time. They say that he is bad and helpless, well, that's what he did. They say that days so that the master could tell where he was in the fields when the master was in the fields, and a little show, but it's because he has been carrying the burden long and many years is due him in some measure." Importial in谈 with the situation where he was in the fields when the master was in the fields, and a little show, but it's because he has been carrying the burden long and many years is due him in some measure." Why DEMAND STANLEY AS TUSKEGEE H KU KLUX KLA "Ten often hear talk of the Negroes an influence. This law says that accuse a man of being a Negro, and that he must be mugged by 'religion.' Well, 'religion' means he shall be separate but equal, when bullied. But, where are your bullets as a matter of fact they are separate from your mug? How can you be mugged of Negroes who must travel to another facility?" Montgomery, Ala.—Colonel Stanley, acting head of the Tuskegee U. S. Veterans' Hospital, summarily suspended three of the nurses at the institution, leaving them only 24 hours to depart from the reservation. The nurses are: Evelyn C. Robinson, of Philadelphia, Pa.; Adelle Woods, from North Carolina, and Zelda H. Robinson, of Miami. Mrs. Robinson and Miss Woods went immediately to Washington, where they went before General Hines, of the Veterans' Burans, and asked for an investigation. The suspension papers were given to the nurses by Nurse Enter Bullock of Chicago, acting chief nurse. "Unusafactory service" is the only cause given, and no further action was taken. The Associated Negro Press can state with reliability that conservatively thinking white people of Alabama are aroused at the continued opposition of the small group of white politicians to the carrying out of the government program of establishing a colored personnel at the Veterans' Hospital, and in the interest of the future of the unqualified pressure to bear acting upon immediate adjustment. you haven't even a railroad ticket. A number of city and county officials. Exodus* From South. The exodus of the Negro from the South has not been overestimated, the report of a recent view following his speech. Georgia and Mississippi have been hardest hit by the killing of over a hundred thousand. He declared the higher wager offered in the industrial sector, the Ku Kui Kui kagitanization, although not altogether, accountable, for the Ku Kui Kui kagitanization it possibly exerted some influence by reputation it not by actual deeds. "Negroes leave the South principally to better their living conditions," he said. They are largely unarmed in the rural areas where large numbers of people do not realize the conditions in the South currently to poorest people. In some Southern states they primarily to poorest people. In the South at least the Negroes because they can obtain living accommodations of a better class and cities. The school launched to make it a first class college in every particular, in the next COLONEL SIMMONS TALKED BUSINESS TO HOUSTON CLUB Colonel Roscoe Conklin Simmons, the matchless speaker, profounded thinker, and brilliant writer, was the guest of the Houghton Colored Commercial Club Tuesday night and delivered a wonderful talk on "Business." The occasion, held in the home of The American Mutual, 741% Pride Avenue was attended by a large number of business and professional men Carnegie Library Robin St . Fort Worth White Citizens Entertained Colored Order; Houston Band Decided Hit Fort Worth, Texas, July 30, 1923.—When the famous Roman warrior, Julius Caesar, won a notable martial message with his fighting legions, he sent this famous message to the home folks: "Veni, vidi, vici," ("I came; I saw, I conquered.") Referring to the recent grand lodge of the United Brothers of Friendship and Sisters of the Mysterious Ten, they came, saw, conquered and were conquered; for this great city did herself proud in the entertainment of the delegates and visitors, who left here singing the praises of the colored and white citizens of this, the "convention city of Texas." Never before in the annals of colored fraternities in Texas has any city shown such a wide-open and hospitable spirit as that manifested by the Panthervillians; and especially Mayor E. R. Burke, whose home address and threw wide gates of the city to the delegates. So royally did the white citizens entertain the delegates and visitors that many were heard to ask, "What manner of town is this that even the white citizens are ever mindful of our welfare and well being?" The office of Commerce furnished the entire grand lodge automobiles for a 30-mile sightseeing trip to the fully 180 cars in the caravan; municipal saisons to it that all signs calculated to insult and humiliate the colored delegates upon their visit to this resort, were removed and they were treated cordially and courteously by all. Another novel entertainment feature was a big free barbecue at the center of the colored visitors and even the park vendors sold their wares to these delegates at half the prevailing price. Special street cars were provided for all the delegates and visitors and the spread consisted of barbecued meats, ice cream and cold drinks. A large crowd of visitors to the bar was flashed a big film made of this unique occasion, which will be on the screen in the various colored playhouses throughout Texas. Special to The Informer. Fort Worth, Texas, July 30, warrior, Julius Caesar, won fighting legions, he this felt "Veni, vidi, viici," ("I came, I saw recent grand gland officer," the towers of the Mysterious Ten, the conquered; for this great city of the delegates and visitor of the colored and white citizen Texas." Another novel entertainment: Trinity Park, where the city of the colored visitors and wares to these delegates at half wars were provided for the blowing of the moving picture machine was in the unique occasion we in the various colored playhouse Grand Master W. P. Bloos, Mar- shall, was the usual master of the repertoire for the entire session. Opening Program First Day's Session At 10:29, July 24, the U. R. F.'s and R. W.'s grand lodge meetings at the St James Baptist Church at corner of 10th and 11th streets was opened with the presence of many out-of-town delegates and zen of Felt Worth. The program resulted in one that was critically pleasing through its entirety. The anion was taken up principally by the western address of St. Winn, pastor of the church, and the opening address of the grand master Bioscoff. Among the good things that are by Rev Winn were that he had been pastor in black wood for thirteen years and that he had been a kind and good friend of had lock and on his thirteenth had been fried greatly by fate. This person has had many number than ever before and a more generative membership than ever. He has been a promising meeting fell to his lot, that of the present Grand Master Bioscoff the address was moved to Grand Master Bioscoff the intelligence and information. Then, this person missed a strong talk full of some of the strong points of his talk were that the monies that are laid up in banks on small interest: BAPTIST WORLD ELECTS FORMI PASTOR BAPTIST WORLD ALLIANCE ELECTS FORMER LONE STAR PASTOR TO HIGH POSITION (By the Associated Negro Press.) South Texans have often wondered why the fourth largest city in the state has attained a national reputation for being the "convention city of Texas," but the Houston delegates and visitors to the recent grand lodge of the United Brothers of Friendship and Sisters of the Mysterious Ten, held at Fort Worth, can truthfully exclaim, "Eureka! Eureka!" (I have found it! I have found it!) Never in the history of Texas has a colored lodge been so cordially received and royally entertained as the U. B. F. grand lodge in Ft. Worth last week. Not only did the mayor of the city extend the welcome at the opening program, but he out of his way to see that the visitation was a time, and went so far as to order the removal of the signs from Trinity Park. "For Whites Only," in order that the delegates could visit this resort and enjoy themselves on its premises. To get the delegates to Lake Worth, the Chamber of Commerce (white), provided 180 automobiles (real honest-goosehats, not fluffers and cockroaches) and every stand and concession at Lake Worth park sold their wares to the colored visitors at half price. The Chamber of Commerce and white citizens helped in giving the delegates a big barbecue and furnished free trolley transportation to and from the place where the big feast was spread. The auditorium of the Chamber of Commerce was used for the opening program and one cent rent was charged and the face of this civic body tendered to the head of the free use of the building and their entire stay in Ft. Worth. The mayor pro-tem extended a special invitation to Silverton brass band of Houston to visit the city hall and render a concert for the municipal heads and employees, and, to get even more mayor who was on the ground in the speech, praiseworthy and blacked the man for his contributions along all lines in the development, expansion and perpetuity of our common country. The delegates are unanimous in their verdict that Ft. Worth has set a pace along entertainment line that will be hard for other cities to match. The next grand lodge comes to Houston in 1925, and, since the slogan, "Houston's got em," played a big part in landing the next grand lodge, it is going to be up to white and colored Houstonians to show Ft. Worth that her citizens are not the only people in Texas who know how to entertain colored people in a grand lodge style. The Informer, however, wants to congratulate and compliment the white and colored citizens of Fort Worth in putting over such a wonderful program and for the concrete demonstration of teamwork between the races, that good will will, without which the race would take much progress. Fort Worth has really and truly set the pace and it is up to the other Texas cities to follow suit or be content with Fort Worth standing out as the only city in the Lone Star State that struts its stuff in entertaining the visitors and sangers within $10,000 FOR A MONKEY CAGE, BUT— Several days ago a news item appeared in the daily press, which bore the intelligence that the city council had appropriated ten thousand iron men or berries for a cage for monkeys at the municipal zoo. In view of the fact that the city has gone absolutely nothing at Emancipation Park, the only so-called city park for colored people and coming directly upon the colored board of directors of Emancipation Park in refusing to ask the colored citizens are still wondering where then our park will come in for some consideration from the city fathers. Ten thousand dollars for a monkey cage, but not one red cent for Emancipation Park! Ten thousand kopecks for a house for monkeys and yet not one penny for Juneteenth music or park improvements at our own Park Zoo. Everybody and everything gets more consideration from the municipal government than fully one-third of the city's population, a large number of whom are tax payers and property owners. We wonder how many of them are business owners for when they read the book, given the monkeys more consideration than the city took it over have hardly reached this amount of money. All the city has done at Emmanation Park has been to erect an inductive pavilion, which is too hot in summer and too cold in winter and has never been completed. The recreation department has installed some equipment for the kiddies, but the city's contributions and improvements at the park have been conspicuous by their absence. But not one copper for improvements at Emmanation Park nor money for music for the race's biggest and grandest day—"Juneteenth." Maybe the city fathers care more for and are more interested in the monkeys and other animals at the zoo than in their colored citizenry, whose salaries and pleasure trips are made possible by the money from colored tax-payers, both directly and indirectly. We suppose that, if all the colored people of Houston will turn to monkeys, the city will donate some amount for their consideration then join us to join the monkey family, there be nothing doing at Emmanation Park ("Brer Henk" Lethridge will now lead us in prayer!) Mary Saved (Luke 8:1, 2). While Jesus and His disciples were preaching through the villages of Galilee, Mary and certain other women were and were saved. Evlil spirits were cast out of them. Mary had been possessed by demons and indicates the completeness of her affliction. Bodily affliction usually denounced demons. Doctor Barnabas a crucifix confuses Mary Magdalene with the sinful woman of whom Luke has just written that she and ever been a woman possessed, as here stated, but there is nothing in the gospel to help that she and ever been a woman spread is this false impression that many rescue houses for fallen women bear the name of "Magdalene." 11. Mary Mistering (Luke 8:33). She, with certain women who had been possessed, a heart of gratitude looked after the comfort of the Lord and His disciples. These women must have been in easy touch with Jesus and His disciples, buy food and other necessities, and doubles, for Jesus and His disciples, runners of that large company of saved women who have throughout the Christian centuries being midst to enter the church. How poor would be this world without the ministry of godly women. Mary the Greatest of mothers (John 19:23). After the men and disciples and then the Lord a group of faithful women whom was Mary Magdalene. Others lingered, prompted by natural affliction, love for salvation from Sancta's bondage. 12. Mary at the Empty Tomb (John 20:11-13). 1. Mistaken Teens (11-13). She had come to the tomb to tow and to pay for her burial, but was weeping over what she regarded as a tragic loss. In spite of her love and faith, she was in a state of concern and fear, and she was reached to a herd time afterward, she would not have than weep. She was weeping because the tomb was in the tomb. How many times we were overrun by our enemies would have been the Lord's body in the tomb. How many times we were overrun by our enemies would have been the Lord's body walked out of the tomb instead of the body in it should have occasioned the tomb. How many times the Christian's ground for hope. 2. The Unrecognized Master (vv. 14, 15). He was within sight of the living Lord, yet mourning for Him. Let us look in the right direction and we shall have our sorrows turned into joy. He was that He did not appear as she thought He should. Many times our preoccupied notices prevent us from seeing Him. Restrained Familiarity (vv. 16, 17). 3. A full meaning of Jesus' word when he forbade Mary to touch Him perhaps we cannot surely know. The difficulty doubled in Mary's understanding. She seemed to think that Mary had never touched her face the resurrection could be resumed. He showed her that he was ascending into glory and that he had endeavored death. Divine worship. 4. Mary Telling the Good News of the Resurrection (vv. 17, 18). 5. Mary having come to the poor dependent disciples was so urgent that there was no time for familiarity. What joy there must have been in the disciples of the good news. Leave All to God. Courage!
