Thanksgiving Day was more than an auspicious occasion for the colored Knights of Pythias of Houston and South Texas—it was an epocal event in the history of the order and a red letter day for three Houston lodges, as well as brother and sister lodges, who conceived the idea of a creditable building here and then labored untrifling and unceasing for the realization and culmination of their vision. For not only did local Knights and fair Calantheans wade through mud, water and slush to make the cornerstone laying ceremonies a memorable event, but the occasion was griced with a galaxy of grand lodge officers, headed by that matchless, resourceful and commanding chancellor, Honorable W. S. Willis of Waco, the pride of all Pythians. Never has any similar occasion been, numbers that brought down the house, witnessed in this, city among them. This band is truly a wonderful organ—brave boys, and if the vast audienceization and bids fair to win many present lacked in anything, it surely in the musical realm. C.—National attention is now focused on two big events of an early date: the opening of congress and the meeting of the republican national committee, December 16th. Both events bring gatherers with unusual significance politically for colored America. Naturally, throughout the country, all will be interested in knowing just how the president will deal with the domestic delegations: he has listened attentively, and has made cordial communication with them, and become one of national scope, and the big question now is: will he say something about it in his message. There is every likelihood that the president will have something to say. Senator McCormick, in an open letter, has again called for the president to take action against the haiti of Haiti. He will doubtless have something to say on this important subject; it has already been announced from the White House, through the secretary to the president, C. Easman Shep, that the administration will back an anti-lynching measure. It has been said that Congressman Downing of representation in the Dearborn Missouri will have his management next透透. This promises to be at least getting away from this delicate subject with which to deal with it. One strong advocate of the bill, and it will be one strong advocate of the bill, and it will recommend the appointment of a new commissioner to the United States to the imminent failure of problems of race adjustment in the United States. There are a number of hands of welcome to all colored citizens, not all in the North, who would come to like see a commission award. For five or more weeks the contest was held on Monday night, more than seven, had waged a relentless campaign for votes, and Monday night the campaign filled with campaign managers, workers and sympathizing friends. The exhibition more interest in a content of this nature and a friendly rivalry had spurted the campaign, and their supporters. The ballot had been cast, and the last penny counted, little Miss Portsmouth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren, the wife of the raised SIS, was declared the winner, and pronounced the most popular city of the city. Little Honore E. M. Warren came under the raise a close second, having raised $250 and the Harrison, Rev. and Mrs. Harrison, won the third prize; others came on the home stretch trailing in. LESSON FOR DECEMBER 2 THE POWER OF THE EARLY CHURCH EBSOM TEXT TEXT Acts 31:14; 8:45 GOLDEN TEXT Acts 31:14; 8:45 upon the Lord of the lord upon the Lord of the lord PRIMARY TOPIC — Peter Telling About Jesus. JUNIOR TOPIC—Three Thousand Converted in One Day. INTERMEDIATE AND SENIOR TOPIC-A Brave Breastress and a Great TOUGH PEOPLE AND ADULT TODIP—The Source of Missionary Power. The power of the early church was the Holy Spirit. This same spirit has been a great source of ages. The watchword of God's mightiest men throughout the centuries has been, "Not by might nor by power but by grace." (Zeach. 4:5). The mightiest forces in the world are spiritual. The Coming of the Spirit (Acta 2:14. 1 Time of (v. 1). It was on the day of Pentecost. "Day of Pentecost" (Lew. 22:15:10). It was observed by presenting the bread (22:17:17). Wheat baked were baked with leaven, while leaven was excluded from the Passion. It was that the Passion feast replied Christ's sacrifice, while Pentecost represented the church, composed of Jews and Christians. No sad in Him while the men and women composing the church have sin in them. The sense of Pentecost in a figurative sense still continues, for the body of Christ is not yet complete. Pentecost was a most fitting time for the church to begin. 2. Upon Whom the Spirit Came (v. 1; cf. 1:18-15). 3. and others to the number of 120. The coming of the Spirit was not merely for the twelve but for the fifteen. The coming of the Spirit, Christ. They were in 'one place, with one accord' waiting for the fulfillment of Father's promise (Luke 1:16). 4. The coming of the Spirit with eyes fixed upon Christ in expectation of the fulfillment of his promises, if the church would be with 'one accord in one place wonderful blessings'. 5. 1. The Marks of the Spirit (v. 2:4). These marks were external and internal. 6. 1. External. 1. (The Sound of a Mighty Wind. There was no wind—only the sound of the Holy Spirit. Life-giving influence of the Holy Spirit. 2. Tongues of Flame. Each of the Tongues of Flame. The tongues show the practical purpose of the Spirit's gift, and the fire that makes the dress and making fit witness for Him. 3. Tongues in Foreign Tongues. For these humble Gileeans to thus speak caused great amazement. This is seen in the transformation wrought in the disciples. They have Peter, who a little white before was cowering before a Jewish mall, now with lion skin holdens stood before the apostle, and later before the chief rulers of the city and declared that they had murdered their King. They were powering Power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:37-42). Many people were convicted of their sins—about three thousand repented and confessed. This revival was real because: 1. They continued steadfast in their sins—did not grow cold or run after every fever along. This is the real test of conversion. 2. They continued in fellowship with the apostles. The sweet way to grow is to keep in fellowship with Christians. Death is sure to follow the apostles in the fellowship of the brethren in Christ. 3. In using the means of grace, "In the breaking of bread" God has inscribed those who are genuinely converted will avail themselves of their use. 4. In prayer the apostolic church cannot live a life cannot be lived without prayer. The influence of a good dead is great upon the world, but the reflex influence upon the door is a priceless thing. -Gospel Banner. False Propheta. False prophets and teachers have ever been speakers of pleasing words and have been leaders of their times. Thus only can they hope to secure popularity, case, and the other things they are after. * Insufficient for That Day. I have been driven many times to go to the church, but that I had nowhere to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me insufficient for that day— CONSTANT CARB—NOT LUCK Human history and experience have taught us that beauty and beautiful hair, a healthy scalp and a lovely smooth complexion come from luck, but they do require a careful, frequent use of preparations of pure materials in hair.
