Pythians Lay Cornerstone With Fitting Ceremonies; Willis Took Leading Role
Grand Lodge Officers, Led By Grand Chancellor Willis of Waco, Officiated at Cornerstone Laying of Fifth Ward Hall—Dallas Dokeys and Pythian Regimental Band Participated in the Ceremonies—Cold Weather Failed to Dampen Ardor and Chill Enthusiasm of the "Brave Boys"—Fair Calantheans Interested Spectators—Monster Crowd Witnessed Event—Red Letter Day for Colored Pythians—Imposing Structure, Built by Three Local Lodges, Pride of Pythians, Race and Community—Carter Master of Ceremonies—Kinchison, Smith, Brackins, Wells and Galaxy of Fraternal Lumaries Here.
Thanksgiving Day was more than an auspicious occasion for the colored Knights of Pythias of Houston and South Texas—it was an epocal event in the history of the order and a red letter day for three Houston lodges, as well as brother and sister lodges, who conceived the idea of a creditable building here and then labored untrifling and unceasing for the realization and culmination of their vision.
For not only did local Knights and fair Calantheans wade through mud, water and slush to make the cornerstone laying ceremonies a memorable event, but the occasion was griced with a galaxy of grand lodge officers, headed by that matchless, resourceful and commanding chancellor, Honorable W. S. Willis of Waco, the pride of all Pythians.
Never has any similar occasion been, numbers that brought down the house, witnessed in this, city among them. This band is truly a wonderful organ—brave boys, and if the vast audienceization and bids fair to win many present lacked in anything, it surely in the musical realm. Their was not void of enthusiasm, nor did they have a chance to be entertained at what they India, and the popular bit, "Barney Google," received veracious applause.
Seated on the platform were several grand lodge officers and other fraternal lights, among whom were I. C. Walker, J. E. Smith, J. E. Smith, D. A. Grand keeper of records and seal; C. A. Walker, Ainut, grand matter at arm; Assistant Grand Master of Arm Sins; Assistant Grand Master of Arm Sins; Grand attorney; Adjutant General Denier, Fort Worth, Uniform Rank; J. M. Tobert, L. W. Robinson and T. H. Brawley, Dallas, drive director; Adjutant General Kaaba Temple No. 1, Doecks; George Murray, Dallas, member of the same group; Wilford H. Smith, former colony of the uniform rank of New York, and other fraternal lights.
Regimental Band Gossens.
Not only did this bwil of fraternal luminaries twinkle rather brilliantly, but they also brought enough to matters of vital concern and to moment the people, nation and civil. Our political leaders dodge issues and sidetope dulies with the adaptations of the new laws and the helpers of the tacklers, as heushes to the goal with the plinkin under his arm for a

The fund also amounted to the skk participating Negro organizations, indicating that in Attaqua, at least, the colored population is at least 50 percent of the total population for its own philanthropies and need no longer entail a burden on the community is this regard. FOLKS. GET READY!
The year of 1950 promised to be a great time to be a governor. Only the men and women can vote in the governor's election, and paid the poll tax or secured a certification within the given statutory period: by night of January 31. Many elections will be held—local elections, state elections and national elections, and must become more interested in the state than in the local. There is only one way to express your opinion in a manner that will count either positively or negatively, but you must meet all requirements of the law in order to vote. In the event of the several elections are held, to sit around and whine or apologize, you must be politically situational of the poll tax law, will not help our situation one bit more, and in a democratic republic such as the United States, women and women speak with the ballots.
A hint to the matter should be as soft as possible. Ready to go up before they have shopt too late. Get ready for the political battles that will ensue.

Negries, generally, feel proud of the appointment of Mr. Wright. He is regarded as one of the bristleast lawyers in the state, and one of the most politicous of the race. He is known to be utterly fearless in protecting and advancing the rights of himself or his race. He has been at work in the traction expert for the city, and assistant corporation counsel. It is said that he was a traction expert in service as a traction expert. Inasmuch as America is weak, Wright is doubtless the highest salaried Negro serving in a governmental appositive assistant United States attorney, assistant United States attorney, Brown, commissioner of conciliation in the department of labor, $5,000; Adam E. Paterson, assistant commissioner of Columbia, $4,000; Major Adam E. Paterson, assistant commissioner of District of Columbia, $4,000; Major Adam E. Paterson, assistant commissioner of District of Columbia, $4,000; James White, recently appointed to the state athletic commissioner.
S. B. Williams, formerly teacher and assistant principal at Gregory school in Tennessee, the largest ward school in Texas (in point of interest and teachers employed), recently graduated from the mathematic department of high school, was remembered by Principal W. E. Miller and teachers of former school the week, the gift being a beautiful gold-painted fountain pen. The "oide rambler" is a type of pen made of gold and is indeed great to the donors. Mr. Williams is a member of The Informer editorial staff.

‘The Informer haz not heretofore taken any stock, cither pro or

for the part thes played im the “Houston riet™ of 1917.
‘Eat this paper can not permit the statement te go amchalienged
that these black skiers were mever given an ineait by amy mem-

‘This paper admits that seme of these sediers while at the

did make a right and the doctrine that might makes right, while it
‘may obtain and prevail for 2 season. is a fallacy amd predicated!
upon a false kspatbesss.
But the fact remains that, while the civilians generally treat-
cd these black soldiers with stimest courtesy ad many of them
went out of their way to make their stay in this commmnity 2
pleasant one, the palice officers parseed 2 different policy and
here is the source of the regrettable incident that eccarred here’
during that August evening of 1517.
‘The first mistake the military authorities made was to disarm
all their colored muktary pale. which disarmament was in itself
2 standing invitation fon troobic humters and ranehaters to take
advantage of their disarmed condition and thas proceed to pick
42 fass, not only with the colored treepers during their abeence
from camp, bat to even impose span said military pabice of color.
‘The error oa the part of oar community was to permit these

districts, for thes were always a prolific surce of trouble between
the two races: oftem serving 2s the rendervens and headquarters
‘of the vicsous, criminal and troblemaking members af beth races,
Another mistake the city made was to maintain men on its
police department whow conceptinn of their duty as peace officers

sought to arres or who dared say rea or may to these minions (7)

‘munity that they casayed and did exeeate it on a few soldiers of
this infantry and bere i where “unadulterated bell” brake loose.
Every truthfal persin knows that the beating ap and sbooting
at one of the colored sergeants, who remenstrated with 2 lecal/
police officer for the bratal and barbaric manner in wich be (the
white officer) was treating 2 colored woman, was realy the straw
‘that broke the camef's back. |
‘This inesdeat transpired im the Sam Felipe section, which beat
this Dlsck military police a covering oo it aftersoan
‘Two local police afficers were taking advantage af a defenseiess

When this colored military police saw what was bappening. i
is stated that he sagpested to the officers that they persait the
‘woman to divs preety and becomingty before arresting br and
‘carrying her to the peice station
‘The remarks from the cohored soldier only seemed to agers
vate and intensify the situation. for the officers ssaedaately
pounced spon him ich their pistols, employing vile eathe, accard-
ing to eye witmesses, and when the race military pale beat =

NATIONAL ATTENTION FOCUSED ON BIG WASHINGTON MEETINGS: PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE AWAITED

Washington, D. C.—National attention is now focused on two big events of an early date: the opening of congress and the meeting of the republican national committee, December 16th. Both events bring gatherers with unusual significance politically for colored America. Naturally, throughout the country, all will be interested in knowing just how the president will deal with the domestic delegations: he has listened attentively, and has made cordial communication with them, and become one of national scope, and the big question now is: will he say something about it in his message.
There is every likelihood that the president will have something to say. Senator McCormick, in an open letter, has again called for the president to take action against the haiti of Haiti. He will doubtless have something to say on this important subject; it has already been announced from the White House, through the secretary to the president, C. Easman Shep, that the administration will back an anti-lynching measure.
It has been said that Congressman Downing of representation in the Dearborn Missouri will have his management next透透. This promises to be at least getting away from this delicate subject with which to deal with it. One strong advocate of the bill, and it will be one strong advocate of the bill, and it will recommend the appointment of a new commissioner to the United States to the imminent failure of problems of race adjustment in the United States. There are a number of hands of welcome to all colored citizens, not all in the North, who would come to like see a commission award. The subject of migration voters has come to see that the republican national committee has more clever game than the republican national committee in listing up eminent voices in the report of the subcommittee on the citi-

The back hit in the running for the conference championship, as every team in the conference was on the field in this game was so near perfect that not a single decision was questioned. The old belief that the Bishop-Willis spirit cannot be able to play. The two schools are nearer together now than at any other time. The boards of athletic clubs at Bishop and Wille are kept, these institutions can look forward to one of the best classics played each year in Texas.

Politics for 1924 will be a man's job, will no doubt be played in a man's play, and will probably be when one is formed. Leaders of both parties are fully awakened to the fact that the party is in "big league" fashion. The republicseventeenth have not only ways to vote, but also to vote, but the whole blade and practice of the party lost a goodly hold on the pulp and a part of the blade in many big battles. The party is beautiful awakening, and will proceed to "kill the fatted call." It now remains to observe who will be 'round
PORTIA SMITH VOTED
MOST POPULAR BABY
IN ANTIOCH CONTEST
The Baby Popularity contest, Protégé Baptist Church, of which Miss Virginia B. Miller is president, closed Monday night at the above named church, and won the national presidential election.
For five or more weeks the contest was held on Monday night, more than seven, had waged a relentless campaign for votes, and Monday night the campaign filled with campaign managers, workers and sympathizing friends.
The exhibition more interest in a content of this nature and a friendly rivalry had spurted the campaign, and their supporters.
The ballot had been cast, and the last penny counted, little Miss Portsmouth, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Warren, the wife of the raised SIS, was declared the winner, and pronounced the most popular city of the city. Little Honore E. M. Warren came under the raise a close second, having raised $250 and the Harrison, Rev. and Mrs. Harrison, won the third prize; others came on the home stretch trailing in.
The magnificent total of $1191.93 and once more Miss V. B. Miller has demonstrated her ability as one who does thing, not dream them all day.

THE POWER OF THE EARLY
CHURCH
EBSOM TEXT TEXT Acts 31:14; 8:45
GOLDEN TEXT Acts 31:14; 8:45
upon the Lord of the lord
upon the Lord of the lord
PRIMARY TOPIC — Peter Telling About Jesus.
JUNIOR TOPIC—Three Thousand Converted in One Day.
INTERMEDIATE AND SENIOR TOPIC-A Brave Breastress and a Great TOUGH PEOPLE AND ADULT TODIP—The Source of Missionary Power.
The power of the early church was the Holy Spirit. This same spirit has been a great source of ages. The watchword of God's mightiest men throughout the centuries has been, "Not by might nor by power but by grace." (Zeach. 4:5). The mightiest forces in the world are spiritual.
The Coming of the Spirit (Acta 2:14.
1 Time of (v. 1). It was on the day of Pentecost. "Day of Pentecost" (Lew. 22:15:10). It was observed by presenting the bread (22:17:17). Wheat baked were baked with leaven, while leaven was excluded from the Passion. It was that the Passion feast replied Christ's sacrifice, while Pentecost represented the church, composed of Jews and Christians. No sad in Him while the men and women composing the church have sin in them.
The sense of Pentecost in a figurative sense still continues, for the body of Christ is not yet complete. Pentecost was a most fitting time for the church to begin.
2. Upon Whom the Spirit Came (v. 1; cf. 1:18-15).
3. and others to the number of 120. The coming of the Spirit was not merely for the twelve but for the fifteen. The coming of the Spirit, Christ. They were in 'one place, with one accord' waiting for the fulfillment of Father's promise (Luke 1:16).
4. The coming of the Spirit with eyes fixed upon Christ in expectation of the fulfillment of his promises, if the church would be with 'one accord in one place wonderful blessings'.
5. 1. The Marks of the Spirit (v. 2:4). These marks were external and internal.
6. 1. External.
1. (The Sound of a Mighty Wind. There was no wind—only the sound of the Holy Spirit. Life-giving influence of the Holy Spirit.
2. Tongues of Flame. Each of the Tongues of Flame. The tongues show the practical purpose of the Spirit's gift, and the fire that makes the dress and making fit witness for Him.
3. Tongues in Foreign Tongues. For these humble Gileeans to thus speak caused great amazement.
This is seen in the transformation wrought in the disciples. They have Peter, who a little white before was cowering before a Jewish mall, now with lion skin holdens stood before the apostle, and later before the chief rulers of the city and declared that they had murdered their King. They were powering Power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:37-42). Many people were convicted of their sins—about three thousand repented and confessed. This revival was real because: 1. They continued steadfast in their sins—did not grow cold or run after every fever along. This is the real test of conversion. 2. They continued in fellowship with the apostles. The sweet way to grow is to keep in fellowship with Christians. Death is sure to follow the apostles in the fellowship of the brethren in Christ. 3. In using the means of grace, "In the breaking of bread" God has inscribed those who are genuinely converted will avail themselves of their use. 4. In prayer the apostolic church cannot live a life cannot be lived without prayer.
The influence of a good dead is great upon the world, but the reflex influence upon the door is a priceless thing. -Gospel Banner.
False Propheta.
False prophets and teachers have ever been speakers of pleasing words and have been leaders of their times. Thus only can they hope to secure popularity, case, and the other things they are after.
* Insufficient for That Day.
I have been driven many times to go to the church, but that I had nowhere to go. My own wisdom and that of all about me insufficient for that day—
CONSTANT CARB—NOT LUCK

The main thing an advertiser wants to do is to tell you plainly just how and why his goods are worthy of your attention, because many things you can advertise from that alone, because many things you can advertise to the things you buy and use in your regular daily life. By reading the advertisements, you can learn the names and read descriptions of the things that are best and most effective.
But advertising teachers more than that. All advertisers try to make their advertisements themselves valuable to you.
A good many people have learned a whole lot about good advertising, healthy, ways to live comfortably, ways to keep the house and grounds looking well—they've learned all these things and many other things just by reading advertisements, and many agreements right along, and you will have a great deal that will be helpful and valuable to you as you go through life.

HAWKINS QUITS POST
AT HOUSTON COLLEGE;
GOES TO DURHAM, N. C.
Froel. T. D. Hawkins, instructor in the decorative art and industrial design of the University, deserves his resignation to the head of the position with the National Training School, Durham, N. C. one of the leading schools of art and design, with him much success in his new field of embrasure, for he is eminently qualified in renderings. Houston, Texas, 20, 12, 1821. Rev. R. E. H. H. H. The general Board of Trustees of the Baptist Missionary and Educational Convention of Texas, Fort Worth.
Rev. Friend and Brother.
In rendering this my, this resignation as instructor of the decorative art and music, I will be here, Houston, Texas, to take effect December 21, 1922, or earlier, if you wish. I will be in the deep regret that I feel in having to submit to the necessity of宴会, in which I have served for one year, two months and eighteen days. For two months I have been made a member of the security to secure a position where, at home, I would be treated as a man and not a woman, to be spoken to as a human being, and not as dumb brute. In this I have survived. Thanking you for our uniforms you have shown me during my term as instructor, I will be associated with you will be horn always in the most pleasant recollection, as you, truly, yours.

May we not take this method of expressing our most profound gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the many friends for the noble manner in which they are our son, Homer E. Jr., their daughter, Sophie, and the recent baby popular content conducted by the Progressive Club of Anbiet Baptist Church, Miss V. B. Miller, leader. Through your generosity our helpy youthful ability was able to win the second price. We thank each of you from the very depths of our hearts, Mr. and Mrs. Homer E. McCay, 2005 Gray Aveng
