In other cases the body burns up quickly, in preparation brief while is greater than the entire blood supply of the body.
**Steven Minterst at Festival.**
The Saturnalis was an old Italian harvest festival, during which time the body was exposed to the cold, clothes, and were waked upon by them.

Mississippi Preacher Tells How
His Energy Was
Restored
The Reverend J. P. Watson, greatly loved pastor of the Burns M. E. Church at Oxford, Mississippi, is given a visit to his church for rejuvenation and quick renewal of his youthful vigor after he had endured a long period of suffering. Without going to the expense of a private visit, he spends considerable money without acess in search of his strength, he says. He is also given a one morning he read about a wonderful method that others said they could achieve. He decided to give it a trial. Now he says, "Thanks be to God I did try to be a pleasure for me to recommend it to my suffering people." He was the recently discovered korean composer. He is now direct to the American distributors at Kansas City, Missouri.

TEXAS POLITICIAN, 69 YEARS OLD,
NOW "YOUNG" LIKE MAN OF 30
RB,Goosby
Judging from the photograph of Mr. R. B. Goosby, the honored Republican Chairman of the 12th Senate District of Texas and well known all over the state, one wouldn't judge him to be a day over 50. The facts are he is 69 years old and has operated a barber shop in Bryan, Texas, for 44 years. He still works, standing at his chair every day. He is a man who has been liked by him, like Mr. Goosby tried Korek Compound which he had read so much about and says that as a result he now feels like a man of 50. "It is the best thing in the world for aged men" is what he says. "After taking half of the first box, I felt so good I would not take a thousand dollars for what it did for me, and for the way I am feeling now. I am like a young man again. My sight is better. I sleep well, my nerves are as steady as when I was 20 years old. The compound brought ready relief when I began to feel my age. I take great pleasure in working with my advenience and experience." All those wishing to try Korek Compound will be interested in the special trial offer printed below.

Those of us who are still "groping in the dark," so to say, and suffering disappointments and heartaches over the condition of our hair know that their joy must be great when they feel like here is nothing left to keep them from holding their head up high and walking along knowing that everybody who sees them admires the way their hair stays so smooth and silky.
posed to make coarse and dull hair glossy, smooth and soft, so it will stay the way we want it to look.
This is not just one case purposely picked out to show what Pluko hair dressing is doing. Thousands of our girls and women, and boys and men, too, are having the same things to say about it. Miss Luella Watkins, one of the society leaders of the race in Houston, Texas; James E. Washington, prominent politician and owner and editor of the Western World Reporter, of Memphis, Tenn.; Rev. Charles E. Buras, Minister and Trustee of the Church of the Living God, of Indianapolis, Ind.; Miss Ellen Burton, of Atlanta, Ga., who has played to crowded theatres all over the South; Miss Virginia Hartley of Norfolk, Va., a prominent member of the Beulah Benbow Company playing the more important theatres in the South and noted for their beautiful girls; Miss Annie Lorita Frazier, beautiful and talented soprano of the Alpha Opera Company, whose portrayal of famous operatic roles has created such a sensation that theatres are "sold out" quickly wherever she appears; Louise Jackson, musical comedy star, whose talent has won her recognition from coast to coast as one of the real stars of our theatres, the wife of "Hardtack" Jackson; and many others too great to mention them all are praising Pluko Hair Dressing.
"IT'S RIGHT HERE FOR YOU!" GROCERIES WOOD
Not long ago someone asked one of the celebrated LaFayette Players how she managed to fix her hair, so she naturally takes the part of the different characters she plays. Her eyes sparkled and she said as quick as flash—"Many of the parts I play call for long, beautiful hair to carry the impression of the real character. I have been aided greatly in doing this through the use of Pluko Hair Dressing, which has given me a wealth of long, silky hair. I therefore, take great pleasure in telling you, so you may know how to make your hair just as attractive as mine is."

The LaFayette Players are known all over the country, and are thought of along with the great artists of the stage in their work of producing all the best dramatic plays at our leading theatres, such as the Grand in Chicago, the Dunbar in Philadelphia, the Howard in Washington, D. C., the Douglas in Baltimore and many others. When one of their stars says that she is able to make Pluko do for her hair what everything else failed to do, you know she is anxious for all her fellow girls and women to know about it, because she knows how we have all tried time and again most of the reported discoveries which were sum-

COHEN'S CONFIRMATION BY SENATE.
The Informer wishes to congratulate the United States senate for the confirmation of Walter L. Cohen as comptroller of customers at New Orleans, La., and also desires to felicitate the Pelican City race man for landing this federal post. A very persistent, dogged and determined fight has been waged against the comptroller of Mr. Cohen, and on two previous occasions the highest legislative body in the nation rejected this distinguished American for this position. The issue was not Cohen's ability, character or fitness for the office, but his color and racial identity, and that alone. Despite the endorsement of the leading white citizens of New Orleans, the Louisiana senators waged a relentless and insidious battle against Cohen's confirmation and sought to move heaven and earth. The senator, who is this American citizen that he, his supporters and backers would give up in disgust and give Cohen's enemies a victory by default. It was and is not a matter of pay nor position; there was and is a great and far-reaching principle involved, and it was along this line that the fight was pitched and stubbornly and bitterly fought until the opposition was defeated in the senatorial ballot. The issue was whether color should disguish an American citizen as an aspirant for high office and honor or a federal appointee to positions of trust and power. As was to have been expected, a howl is being raised from certain Southern sources that "white supremacy" has been challenged; "racial consciousness" will be aroused and racial antiphytintified by this appointment. But these howlers and alarmists seem to be unmindful of the fact that Cohen has served in this position under a former administration and there was no trouble, bloodshed or even bad feeling.
Do they mean to say that the more the American people become civilized and enlightened, the more strenuous they object to American citizens of color occupying high posts? The American citizens of color under people under him because of this post, they have both the right and privilege to hand in their resignation to their ebony-hued chief, and there will be plenty of applicants waiting for their jobs!
Excepting the Louisiana solons, notably their two blatant senators, there has been no marked opposition in that state against the black businessmen and bankers, business men and citizens signed a petition asking that this colored man be elevated to this office and they exerted every effort to assist their townman in landing this federal post.
Other words, the white people of New Orleans, who stand for something beside hot air and race hatred and own something other than congressional togas illegally secured and retained (the people who must transact business with Cohen's office) have insisted that Cohen was perfectly satisfactory to them as controller of the business, and that they must consume valuable editorial space and wasting precious time, both of which could be employed to a better advantage.
But the confirmation of Cohen in the face of stiff and hostile Southern objection and opposition and the fact that he will occupy the office and function as its directing head, demonstrate what the business lines, even for colored Americans right in the heart of "Bam."
If republican senators can line up and confirm a colored man for a federal post in the South, why can not these same senators employ their high office, influence and power to see that the constitution and all laws and amendments are enforced and throughout Dixie.
We are not renouncing any claims to federal offices, but we are more concerned about the rights of all the people being vouchsafed and guaranteed them than in the bestowal of a few, fat, juicy bills. As a vote-gutter and sentiment-maker for the republican party and its quadrennial presidential bearer, the Cohen contest and confirmation is likely to play a big part; but what these same white republican leaders are promising to do with constituting colored delegations from Dixie present their pleas, pledges and prayers for redress and political freedom from political ostracism and "ily-witlimism" at the big party convention in Cleveland next June? How will the vote stand in the executive committee of the party to be nominated for president, be represented by disfranchised and excluded American citizens, who are not permitted to participate in the councils and affairs of the so-called republican party in Southern states? What efforts will these republican leaders put forward to safeguard the rights of all the millions of colored people who are ennured and enthralled in civic, political and economic bondage in the South? While voting out appropriations for millions of dollars (money from all the tax payers) to enforce the rights of the 18th century, these republican leaders will they willing to vote out to enforce the provisions of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the same constitution? Political consistency is a rare and almost extinct species of Americanism, and our supposed public servants seldom act with the votes for themselves and their party!
Far be it from The Informer to criticise or jibe at the republican party leaders and senators who stood by Cohen and his commitment to the Constitution.
The Houston Informer
wishes to invite these same leaders to be as insistent, persistent and consistent in contending for the constitutional rights of the remaining members of Cohen's race, not only in Louisiana, but in other states, and that is why he and is bramped under the unholy and wicked feet of men. Selah!
TEXAS NEGROES REDUCE ILLITERACY
Statistics recently made public by the extension department of the University of Texas, Austin, state that illiteracy among the colored and white races in the Lone Star State is being reduced especially among Mexicans, it is growing at an almost equal rapid rate. This bit of news is quite refreshing and encouraging, but the progress that the colored race has made in Texas in this respect, according to this report, has outstripped that of the whites.
Excerpts from the report state:
The latest churn, taken in 1920, shows 289,000 illiterates in the state. The total number of illiterated States includes all persons 10 years of age or over who are white, not black. Of the 289,000 illiterates in Texas, 50,453 are native white, 112,414 are black, and 17,041 are Native white illiteracy in the state has been reduced from 4.8 per cent in 1900 to 6.0 per cent in 1920, but increased from 4.9 per cent in 1920. The greatest reduction in illiteracy has been in the Nego population of the state, where the best results have obtained. In 1900 there were 4 per cent of illiterates in 1920 it had been reduced to almost half the number, 12.4 per cent. In percentage of intelligent Nego Texas leads the U.S. and probably the world. The Nego high schools in Nego have also been Southern states combined. The records show that Negro takes advantage of their opportunities, while schools are provided, removing their illiteracy at a remarkably rapid rate.
Despite this splendid showing, there is still much room for improvement, as is evidenced by the fact that there are over 100,000 members of our race in Texas who can neither read nor write.
Ignorance is a crime and illiteracy is a reproach to any people, and it is the duty of the state (society) to see to it that all people with illiteracy have access to competent, intelligent, thrifty, law-abiding and symmetrically developed.
Most of the criminals are of the ignorant and illiterate type, not only among the colored race, but among all races; and if we would not have any of them as criminals, we must eradicate ignorance and its by-products: hatred, meanness, prejudice, antipathy and downright cusseted. The Informer notes with pride this illiterate achievement of the fact that this reduction of racial illiteracy was accomplished wholly and solely by our race; for such is not true, as the white citizens of this state helped to make possible this phenomenal change. The Informer believes in giving credit where credit is due and in rendering unto Caesar the things that are Caesar's. If our people can make the same progress in reducing their illiteracy, we must eradicate them; we shall have very few illiterates in our racial group in 1500.
Let us all bend our efforts to make this condition possible, for in so doing we become social assets instead of social liabilities.
OBSERVING NATIONAL NEGRO HEALTH WEEK
The late Dr. Booker T. Washington, of Tuskegee fame, not only revolutionized the system of vocational education in this country and placed his race in a higher realm in the realm of applied education, but he started another movement that is perhaps more important than his efforts, labors and contributions in the educational field.
Realizing that people with unhealthy bodies were impediments and hindrances in the great industrial and economic program of this section and country; and being fully cognizant of and acting in the best interests of the community, this lamented leader originated the idea of a national Negro health week, which is annually observed during the week of the supposed birthday of Dr. Washington.
This year the week will be observed from Sunday, March 20, through Saturday, April 5, and virtually every national organization will be asked to participate in the observance of this health occasion.
Elsewhere in the columns of The Informer appears the program that organizations and communities are asked to observe during this week, and it is our earnest hope that our people will execute it. Because most of the Southern municipal and county governments do not provide the same living conditions for our people as they do for other races, our people do not manifest as much interest in their physical well-being and welfare as they should, and thus we shorten our days and jeopardize our health both by errors of judgment and by neglect. Granting that the city government does not give colored residents good streets, drainage and other modern conveniences, there is no excuse for these people to sit around and permit their premises to become a pest and menace to the community; but on the other hand they should exert every effort to do their part by providing the people with the health and sanitary as possible their own homes and surroundings.
As we have said repeatedly in these columns, we should not wait until a health week to clean up our premises, but should stay constantly on the job and see to it that we conserve and preserve our environment. We should also make and maintain our environments conducive to a healthful and wholesome condition. Two or three local organizations are making special efforts to observe National Negro Health Week in Houston, and The Informational Grifter is trained to see these and all similar undertakings go over big.
THE RIGHT MESSAGE FOR OUR PEOPLE.
It has been our good pleasure and fortune to hear many of the leading thinkers and lecturers of our racial group, but we know of none that has a message possessing the ring and thought as much as Mr. Bledsoe. Mr. Bledsoe, grand master of the United Brothers of Friendship and Sisters of the Mysterious Ten of the Texas jurisdiction. While other speakers, publicists and lecturers are traveling over the country delivering messages at so much "per," this great fraternity is one of the few groups that have a message to "whoseover will" without money and without price. Having been at the head of this great Texas order for over thirty years, Mr. Bledsoe is eminently qualified, both by training, experience and observation, to preach the kind of economic, commercial and business gospel that he is thundering in various schools. Like most speakers, this Texas fraternial wizard has a pet hobby and that is "Social Heritage," which he has given much study and thought. Once he has heard him diagnose our racial case, and prescribe the course of treatment for restoration of racial health and regaining or gaining of our prestine strength, he will readily agree that "Dr. Bledsoe more nearly reaches our case, its cause and effect, than any other speaker on the American platform. Without the beating of drums, flare of trumpets or the publicity of his speech, Mr. Bledsoe will be able to aker the status of his race in Texas and give the other contemporary races an all-together different conception of the colored race, its possibilities, potentialities, capabilities, achievements, hopes, aims, ambitions and aspirations. Mr. Bledsoe speaks a profound and prolific thinker, and his dissertations can not fail to inspire and nerve our group for the ultimate conquest of the land of Canaan.
