BEGINNING OUR SEVENTH NEWSPAPER YEAR ```markdown ``` True, we are living in a day of stranger trust. We are living in a city where it comes to giving colored citizens a rough, tortured, and canonized those who serve in our army and bratilites upon our people, should be treated with respect and honour, is still the determining and important factor in the status and roles we are involved in. We have cooled education may be no abbreviated name, neither a taxpayer (of the district) nor the race's cause one whistle. Since the chief has exemplified such forgiving spirit in resisting the fourness, humble and repentant, our office in Lowe's miniaturism and incarnation has been able to know his present and future attitude to moving their hats when at the police station. However, we are doubtful and fearful that we will have the desired effect of imposition in department not in putting to to and from bratilites. Humankind and bratilites have been by the police officers with reprimanda meted out to attacking them. Down the line, and the chief reprimanda meted out to attacking them. In his high reattentions in the office, a group of citizens, will be reprimanded for the unequance of police brutality upon cooled police hats and curious and anxious to know what attitude the police have practiced practically be rewarded for mistreatment the colored citizen has been given the colored citizen has been given the time of his arrest, with a 100 fine and It looks to us like there is something radically wrong and fundamental in the case. However, after six years battling and fighting for what we conceive to be right, The Informer is still in existence and its editor is still in town; while the paper begins its seventy year under very favorable and auspicious circumstances. The space of six years is not a long period of time, speaking in terms of years; but when it is recalled the many ups and downs this paper has experienced, during most of those six years, the fact that its barque still sailed upon the journey of the Negroes to incite the Negroes to riot against the whites, etc. This game, originally suggested to a Harris County grand jury in 1919 by a publisher of another colored "weakly" newspaper, was played with varying for a number of years—at least until some local advertisers and merchants awoke and discovered the underhand and cut-throat back of these periodic and well-nigh constant boycots. TWO COLORED HEROES AWARDED CARNEGIE MEDALS FOR BRAVERY; SAVED WHITE LABORERS' LIVES (By the Associated Negro Press.) Pittsburgh, Pa.—Robert J. Royal, Uniontown, W. P. While Roby and Royal were clearing a mine entry, which had been blocked by falls, a large chunk of slate fall, striking Royal on the back, temporarily paralyzing his legs, and also falling on Roby, breaking his legs and pinning him to the ground. Royal crawled fourteen feet to a point in the entry which had been protected by timbering. Upon calling to Roby and learning that he was injured and unable to move, Royal crawled to Roby, using his arms and dragging his legs. He raised the chunk off Roby with considerable effort and held it up, using his left elbow and forearms as braces, while Roby moved the chunk down to the ground. Small pieces of shell were found near their cave-in. Roby and Royal then crawled to safety, and Royal dragged himself into a mine car and drove a horse hitched to the car two thousand feet for help. He was disabled seven months and Roby nine months from their injuries. Roby was rescued by Royal C. Binbrink, white gas company fortnightmen from suffron in this year. Binbrink entered a manhole six feet deep and almost immediately was overcome by illuminating gas, which was leaking from a broken main. Cagle lowered himself into the hole and lifted Binbrink, enabling him to get to the top and grasp his arm and pull him out. Cagle, feeling the gas affecting him, then raised his hand and several men at the top reached into the hole and drew him out. HOUSTON, TEXAS, SATURDAY, MAY 23, 1925 False rumors galore were circulated throughout the community and state concerning The Informer and its editor; yet very few, if any, of the rumor-mongers, particularly those of other races, had ever seen or read a copy of the book they were trying to consign to perdition and profound night. What did The Informer say or do during those years to make it a despised and rejected publication? Why did a clique of Sengambians try to put the paper and its editor "in bad" with "de white folks?" This paper has never engaged in mud-slinging, airing out the domestic affairs of our people nor in personal attacks upon individuals with whom the editor disagreed. The Informer has pitched its battle along the high plane of the democratic movement, a democracy that is still-embracing and for an Americanism that knows neither color, creed nor race. Public sentiment in this community has undergone an almost complete metamorphosis, due largely to the editorial contents of The Informer; while the presentation of the race's cause at the bar of public opinion has been instrumentally changed, the several instances, with a favorable verdict here and there. The Informer has simply been a voice crying in the wilderness of oppression and repression, "Abolish the double standard of citizenship in this country and section (one for white citizens and another for colored people); make the crooked paths straight; dethrone Judge Lynch's court, with the judge's authority to impose legal discrimination, jim-j Crowmind" and kindled his invoices and institute the Golden Rule in men's and race's dealings with each other, and let us all labor together in one common cause for the peace, progress and perpetuity of the republic. While discussing these issues and matters from various angles throughout these six years, the main tenor of our theme was the need to consign the public to perdition and profound night. The Informer, in merely reciting some of its trying and vexing ordures during these six years, holds no spleen in its MAMMOTH CROWD APPLAUDED FETE AT PARK TUESDAY RACE STUDENT AT AMHERST WINNER OF SCHOLARSHIP RACE STUDENT AT AMHERST WINNER OF SCHOLARSHIP Mercer Cook, Son of Will Marion Cook, Entitled to Attend the Son-varie in Paris, France. He made PhD Beta Kappa two weeks ago. He recently won an anatomical prize of $50 and is enriched in the big anatomical context won in the soon comes New York City—The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, $8 Fifth Avenue, has received and made public a letter from colored citizens of Boley, Oklahoa, a town in the southeastern United States, in a local white paper to the effect that colored people had warned white men to stay out of the town after dark. The news item, which the colored people object to, stated that there was a plan to force colored people to inscribe, "White Man, Don't Let The Sun Set On You." The colored people objected to their registration, judging the case they have taken to court involving dancers in their registration. The case even raised the question, ever that such a sign warning them away, is in the neighboring town of Fort Wayne. DENTISTS RENDERED EXCELLENT PROGRAM Without trying to cover too much territory, we venture the assertion that no city in America has a group of dentists who can render such a program as the one executed at Mount Vernon M. E. Clark, and Burnett, Monday night. Not only did these dentists deliver helpful and practical lectures regarding the importance of oral health, but their musical selections were exceptionally good and the audience enjoyed a rare musical treat; to respond to encores, Dr. R. O. Roest, who was called upon to short health talks in the absence of a medical professional, proved himself more than equal to the emergency and imparted some timely information to his auditors. Excepting the talks by Dr. R. O. Roest, the entire program was rendered by the local dentists; and it was indeed a program designed, enlightenment and entertainment. STYLE SHOW-FROLIC BRILLIANT AFFAIR The style show and frolic given at the Odd Fellows Temple last wednesday of the W. Y. C. A. Coopersmith Club of the Y. W. C. Popular youngsters appeared in the show, disporting themselves in the latest styles from the large and appreciative audience that witnessed the show. After auditorium all required to drill room. A fitting climax was added to the evening's program with refreshments. journalistic heart against any of these malefactors and evil-doers; for the law of retribution has taken care of some of them, and this same unyielding, inexorable and immutable statute will hardly overlook the remainder of that group. This paper also realizes that no newspaper, which has a real editorial policy, can expect to receive popular approval at all times, as it relates to its editorial utterances; but because men differ and disagree with certain editors in or the policy of a publication, is no sane, reasonable or rational why they should seek to destroy the paper and villify, malign, misrepresent and plan against the physical life of the editor. Locally, The Informer has contended for better schools for colored children; for better living conditions in exclusive colored residential sections; for the abolition of brutality upon prisoners and citizens by local police officers; for a program of inter-racial goodwill and amity; for more recognition and consideration from the city officials; for the recognition of the need for an united effort to put over some worth while program for our group and community, to cease our internal bickering and lay aside all weights that hinder and impede us in running the race successfully to the goal. The Informer offers no apologies for its past policy, and looks forward to the future with faith, confidence and optimism; for "nothing is settled until it is settled right." We have guarantees if we closed this article without expressing our deep concern for the safety of thousands of readers and subscribers who have stood by the ship in both fair and stormy weather, as well as local and foreign advertisers who have employed advertising space in The Informer during these six years. With your continued support, assistance and material encouragement, as well as moral, we hope to build The Informer into a national leader, as close to a case to be sectional—The South's Greatest Weekly Newspaper assumes national import, not only in its editors as obtains at present, but in circulation and influence. We thank you one and all! Selah! In token of renewed friendship Mexico in Mexico United States not an olive branch, but a stalk of grass. Thousands of head of cattle from regions in the southwestern part of Mexico are dried from drought, are being sent into Chihuahua and Sonora where grass is luxuriant and where in some areas it is nearly wiped the native herds out of existence. Largest of Mexican states and richest in resources, Chihuahua has an area of 10,000 square miles but a population only two-thirds that of Pittsburgh. Were its lands allocated among its citizens every five years? Such allotments would make many quintettes of owners fabulously rich for a Crescent might envy the wealth of some Chihuahua cities. Best of all, the Ecuadorian Galápagos, 17 miles southeast of Chihuahua City, discovered in 1708, but not extirpated from them, have come from Mexico. Many of the silver mines possess one of 50, 60 and 76 per cent metal, and there came from one Chihuahua mine. There are also 300,000 pounds of almost pure silver. Gold, lead, iron and copper also are mined. Farming is a major industry in the region, and the agricultural output has been estimated, under normal conditions, to be only one-fourth as valuable as the mineralogy, and the vegetation cattle-running has always been extensive. But the most recent, and potentially one of the most valuable industries with the vast forests, Reins and turpentine were derived from some of the mountain timber. Four-fifths of Chihuahua consists of undulating table-lands, for the most part covered with the offering extremes of temperature from the bleak snowdaked peaks in winter to the oppressive heat of valleys in mid-autumn. State, taken as a whole, there are extensive arid, desertlike areas. Traces of the Apaches, once the "cruelest and most treacherous race in the world," have been hung in husana, as are many cliff dwellings, Astce mounds and various other rulers, which have not been studied. The conquest of these Apaches was one of the most effort toward peaceful development. Rich Mining Region. No part of northern Mexico appears any too inviting from the car windows of the railway which enter the countryside. The aspect is as marked in Sonora as elsewhere. This slater state to Chihuahua, lying next to the west, is the second most populated region of the richest mining regions in the world. But the desert hides its best. Far back in the oat-tainted hills are animals in the remains of 'dobu huts' stranger sees only the numb mistry of the half-naked Indians, sheltering like animals in the remains of 'dobu huts' stranger sees only the numb mistry of the past ten years. The wide plains are empty of life. The herds have gone to feed the revoil. The change in plant and animal life and industries as you pass from Arizona into Mexico is very slight for the first 200 miles or more. Had the herds gone to a house, and may be charged you dons on that new camera, you might not have realized that you had crossed a frontier from the rolling grass ranges of northern Sonora and strike the Yagui valley beow Guymuys that is a new world rebound. The vast coast of the live of the vast coastal plains begins. The very richness of Sonora's mineral deposits and the fact that 60 percent of the land is covered by the miles, pausing neither to sow nor tended, tended to keep the country back. worked an agricultural minute. Aided by American soil experts, plant wizard John Rowe, the Roosevelt dam, it has cleared and watered thousands of acres and established a plover American colony. The dam is a tributary ditch that the Indians knew is replaced by long, deep canals with miles of laterals and take-off, and giant dredges that have been used to once the peon toiled with his furlail oil. Oil-burning tractors and marvelous gang-plows have crowded out the city, and scratching sticks of a decade ago. Yankees of Mexico. In Sonora the American idea has taken particularly deep root. Mexicans from other states call these Bohemian children because of their thrift, advancement and close relations with the Americans. Practically all families of the Mexican children are raised in their children to schools in the United States. These youngsters, returning to Mexico for the last time (and their Yankee slang), they wear American-made clothes, dance all the popular "steps," and display an understated sense of pride, only make of them more friendly and helpful commercial neighbors. Even now the average home in Sonora is equipped with American wares—the Yankee sewing machine, the plane, graphophone, kitchen range, brass bed and stove, and a few other items with Uscan Sam's factories our Mexican neighbors get most of their ready-made clothing, their shoes, hats, food and sporting goods, canned foods and a smoothing tool. Even with the extinction of herds the revolution wrought, the ratio of meat-bearing humans to human beings has fallen by more than any other country, because so much of the land is fit only for grazing. The lands of imported Mexican cattle, and in years to come we shall necessarily buy more and more beef from below the Rio Grande. Cowmen from our homeland, and from Mexico, and on its vast, unfenced ranges some Americans have built up enormous herds. Some of these some forage grasses that cover the great Arizona ranges are also found in Sonora and Sinaloa. The beans of the mesquite tree are also found in Arizona, and the uncommon sight to see a Mexican heifer stand on her hind legs and reach for the higher twigs of this succulent Wild Cattle Roam. In some of the mountains many so-called "wild cattle" roam at large, unbranded and free, timid as deer, or their forebears have strained from their grazing. In many milk cows at large, in all these ranch homes condensed milk in generally to. To rope, throw, and milk cows, the forebears take the task, and frequently "Mollie, the kind-faced, cow," will, when released, promptly chase her captures up the nearest tree. It is a great same country, at irrigation time in the Yaqu valley, particularly, the wild fowl become a pest, for this west coast lies on one of the most fertile valleys, and are ducks, geese, brant and curlew and many, varieties of shore birds. Here also the California or "vale" quail is amazingly abundant, especially among the mountainous areas. Around unusually good feeding grounds one will find these birds, not in coves, in in armies, frequently found in the woods. Among the rolling foothills, where they feed on acorns, myrtales of "white wing" or *Sonora* nopalms make their home. At nightfall these birds flock to the mountains for irrigation ditches by the thousands. Here is an American happy hunting ground for those who love the rod and reel, and for those who prefer better known, Guaymas may become a popular winter resort of soft breeds, blue seas, and ideal January outdoor days, with an ideal hunting country.
