REWARD FOR SERVICES.
As a reward for the services they have rendered the order, race and social family through their official contact at the recent grand lodge of the Grand United Order of Odd Fellows unanimously voted to give Grand Master H. G. Koege a 60-day vacation and a burial secretary, was given a 30-day vacation and $500.
For the past four or five years Mr. Koege has been in failing health and the functions of his office as he has so much desired. He has given the order and race the best years of his life and this gift was a fitting recognition of his service. He emerged victorious in the recent fight conducted against him in the conduct and operation of the enquiry, thought that he had earned a much-needed and deserved reward. Mr. Riddle is in charge of the most important part of the Odd Fellows' machinery, and what the jurdition thinks of him and his past services. As the grand medical examiner, was given medical training, and worked to equip him to serve the order in his special sphere. As the regimental department (patriotic) was given money among the companies attending and participating in the examination of the Grand Park. During the grand session here, the senior great Teacher taught that these men are worthy of the emperor's award, and tendered them by the order which they have served so nobly during the

MIRROR ON VACATION.
Since he somewhat admires the world and its contents, he is of the opinion that he just now to hasten an end to his earthly existence, and hence he can enjoy it on a brief vacation. Just whether we shall endeavor to drop our readers line by line "the spirit moves" in, or "where the drop falls" in, depends upon him. He himself too enraged in vacation to keep his readers "informed" through the Informer territory while away, and thus he returns him to his editorial sanctum.

Mr. Lovett, who is one of the financial leaders of our area, was invited to the recent celebration at the dedication of the Supreme Life and Causal Company, at Columbus, Ohio, and at the dinner speaker. Hampton, Va.—Through well-organized summer schools, colleges, and county training schools the number of students increased, according to B. C. Calwell of Hartford, Ky., field director of the Jeans and Slater Boards, who spoke recently to the Hampton Institute to describe the work he is doing done to train colored teachers in 17 Southern states, including Missouri and Arkansas. "The Southern states," he said, "build high school for colored boys and girls faster than they can train high school teachers. The movement is growing."

Houston Doctor Victim of Huns; No Arrest Made
Dr. Ward, Young Dentist With Offices in Odd Fellows Temple, Gets Phoney Emergency Call—Abducted in Auto and Given Coat of Tar and Feathers—Robbed and Left Tied to Post—Finally Released and Brought to City—District Attorney's Office Promises "Investigation"—No Arrests Yet!
One of the most outrageous and disgraceful crises in Houston's recent history was perpetrated Monday night, when a bunch of Houston Huns decoyed Dr. R. H. Ward, local colored dentist, from his home on a phone call, and then at the point of a revolver forced the dentist to enter an automobile and whisked him away where he was brutally and shamefully outraged.
Dr. Ward, known to Houstonians as "Richard," (having been born, reated and educated here and his family being considered one of the best families in this section of the state), received a telephone call during Monday night, purporting to call him on an emergency case to the 1700 block on Ruthven Street. (The dentist lives at 1212 Ruthven.)
When the dentist responded to the call at the address given over the telephone, he was told that no one at that address had phoned for a dentist; whereupon he immediately left the premises and started back to his domicile.
8 point to follow here
Ah automobile was parked some 15 and 20 feet away from the house he had just approached and when one of his feet was in the dentist, thinking, perhaps, the car was waiting to carry him to the proper address, replied in the affirmative, according to his veron. When he had done this the man (a member of the police) told him to sit in the tinted and placed a reviver at his abdomen, threatening to "hoot out" a hound if he gave an alarm. Dr. Ward was then made to get into the car, where he was driving the rear seat with blackened faces, and was driven to the western section of the city—out near Ward drive, where he was forced to leave the car. He was driving the front street when the Hume could conceive with their infamous "nutur." According to the dentist, the white man with the reviver remarked that "I have been laying for you a long time, and I am going to streeten the doctor to get into the auto at the point of the gun. When these huns (Dr. Ward assert that one of them replied to the name of the dentist) were in the streeten the doctor to get into the clothes from his back, tied his hands behind him and then pured tar and feathers on him; also carolio on his back; confeited his watch, money, checks, check-book, his shoes, his underwear, his underwear, his mite treatment of the coat and shoes. In some intplainable manner the dentist extricated himself from the rope and went to a nearby house and then told him of his mite treatment and predicament. Mr. Carter jumped into his auto and drove out where the dentist was and brought him home, carrying along a bathrobe to cover and protect himself.
When seen by an informer representative Tuesday to foreseeion Dr. Ward, who was not showing much ill effect from his harrowing experiences with the Nazis, he stated that the leader of the trio told him that they had been instructed by the local head of the Ku Klux Klan to give him this baptism; remarking to the dentist that he (the Mimpie) leaded him to the baptism, the khan had instructed the khan khan had instructed

Early Tuesday morning Dr. Ward reported the outrage to some of the father, and to the district attorney.
The latter asked the dentist any number of questions and promised to make an investigation of the brutality.
He was taken into the Milam street, at 49% Milam street, Dr. Ward had a little run-in (nothing serious) with a white youth from a local dental supply house; the dentist forly resisted his request to take his head when he (the bullying white ruffian) refused to refuse his hat in the dentist's private office in the presence of a female patient. For this gentle, kind man, he had no patience for the unbendable no matter nor common decency, the dentist was arrested and fined.
According to Dr. Ward's version of the dentist's report, the aftermath of the Milam street incident, and he believes that this same youth, also called "Bilim" at the dental supply house where he is employed, was the victim of an assault by the Hammish leader Monday night) in the party that outraged and robbed him.

It is only slightly soluble in water, but freely no when a dilute acid is added. The use of the drug in pedicure practically dates from 1589, and there is still a diversity of opinion as to its action and value.

AUGUST IS CLIMAX MONTH FOR RACE; MANY MEETINGS
(By the Associated Negro Press.)
Chicago, Ill.—Throughout the land, during the month of August, it has been conservatively estimated that colored America; alone, will spend $100 million for vacations and expenses during attendance at convention and in having vacations. This does not include the other amount, say at least that another $11,000,000 or more will be spent by the students of the thousands of gallons of gasoline, oil and other necessities connected with motor touring.
August is the "climax month" of the summer. The Knights of Kaptain, 25,000, will swamp down on Louisville; the military end of the aggregation being under the direction of Major General R. R. Jackson of Chicago, the military end of the aggregation being under the direction of Supreme Commander S. W. Green of New Orleans. The military end of the aggregation being under the Independent Order of Elks of the World meets in Richmond, Va. This will be guided by the hand of J. Flasley Wilson of the University. It has been announced that 40,000 will
M.
accept the hospitality of the famous capital of Virginia, and "make the wokin ring" for practically a week in the city. The event is lauded by the contest for grand exalted ruler, in which T. B. Watkins of Kansas City is to be the leading candidate. A magnificent parade in a feature of both the Elk and K. of the National Negro Business League, R. D. R. Motson, president, will have its day and say in Tulsa, Okla., "We are proud of the entire state of Okla homa has joined hands with the Tulsa inship in helping to make the occasion one long to be remembered. For all the people in the cities have been co-operating with the hosts of the convention in helping to make the occasion a success. It has been stated on high authority that the citizens of Okla. have genuine courtesies that will be extended by all groups and classes. A number of surrounding places will be visited. Special consideration of business and economic conditions will be studied.
Doctors In Chicago.
The National Association, of G. Dumna of Washington, president, attended the event at this convention, while not as large as that of some other members, because the promises to be the largest in the history of committee states that preparations are being made to entertain several candidates, including the Associated Bustleton caucus at the time of the convention, just because. Chicago is such a fine city, including the Associated Bustleton caucus, that will have special entertainment during the convention. Word has been received in Chicago that coming and going many hundreds of people will spend a day or two in Chicago to attend the convention. With a "Windy City" folks to extend the glad hand of welcome to these, Chicago is one of the most beautiful cities, as one城市它. There are always changes or progress, and there will find that the last year has brought a larger percentage of ad revenue before. There has be a more building, more new homes provided in the most exclusive section of the city than has been done in the past.

The hysteria engendered during the McShane administration when several women's organizations sponsored the segregation law and the more sober-minded citizens have had an opportunity to see through the attempts at enforcement of the ordinance. The council will also show the thinking white people that every legal recourse will be resorted to in order prevent the successful overthrow of the law.

Solitariness of Civilization
HE HAD been in the wilds of South America for five years, living among ancient tribes along the river, and now he was in New York. Undecided as to whether he should dine alone or should hunt up some animals, and now he was in city, he wandered toward the telephone booth. A page waved to him an eager-faced young man. "The young man," the "Amazon explorer" Prentice gave a nod. "Tp from the Mongol University." "I came from a story from some about the headhunters and cannibals you've been living among." "A story?" calculated Prentice, who was a scientist, a scientist, a non-romancer. Whatever I may care to say will appear in the scientific journals. "I am a scientist, my highbrow stuff. Just a few good yarn about your adventures." "I won't word!" started Prentice's word. "That's small good night!" And he turned away, thoroughly exasperated. "D—n those reporters!" he said loud, addressing
In front of him, in a big upholstered armchair, a sit young woman with an earlobe that is directly at him, and at the voluble excitation she gave a decided nod. "He't too bad!" she murmured. "The man is so handsome." The words and the glance she gave him were friendly, the first warming experience he had encountered since he was a child. "They don't have reporters where I came from—the wild of Brazil." "Oh, Brazil!" she explained; and then, with a quick flash, she looked away, as if she had inadvertently heard because she too much interested. Prentice moved off, toward the telephone directory he glanced over his shoulder. "Are you interested in Brazil?" she asked, coming back to the young "Very much," she smiled. "You are not a New Yorker, so I care for places beyond Manhattan Island." "Is the Amazon country we speak to anyone we want to. I haven't got a phone," she said. "I know, she said." New York is a lonely place, especially in the evening, when you want someone to play
Practice helped her in and settled down in the corner. "It’s been a long time," she said. "I am pleased I impose in a way I owe it all to her beauty reporter." "That beautiful reporter" also murmured, "my Prentice, I owe you an explanation. I'm on the staff of the Evening Era, and I went to a little story about you for my paper." Prentice sat up. "You won’t." "We’ve seen the same outcome every time," she said. "What a headline: ‘Famous Explorer Defies Civilization!’ He Prefers the Headmistress to Dance Modern Jazz!’ You’ll look: The laughing stock of scientific data, no, you won’t." she said. "Because I won’t write that story. I tell the Era I'm sorry, but Mr. Prentice had nothing to say." She danced down sight from the corner of the taxi. "You’re a gentleman," said Prentice. "I mean I could have I’ll be fine if I’ll be 66. If you’ll impute with me tomorrow I’ll give you the first authorized account of my discoveries, if you’ll promise to print only what I” I promise,” agreed the young woman. "but what I’ll use for a
