This was because he was the only one another, they were going to get their money's worth when he entered the game, and he could fight. When he felt like clowning he was a wunderville shot in his helmet. He had plenty of ring ability and machitude courage. He could hit and he had no small measure of cleverness. He was a far better fighter than the other players and overcame him in American rings. He might have gone high in his profession had he taken the game series and cheered and he did his read work along the princess path. He crossed across the strictest闸闸 he knocked out the georges Carpenter in Paris and won the light heavyweight champion of the tournament over that affair, the claim being made that Skil had contracted to take a dive and instead double-crossed the Immediately after that fight the King got his first taste of the life. "If there's anything that goes big in Dublin on St. Patrick's day it's a 'explained' Mike ordering up a fight," Skii said. "Tea, sir, they pay big to see a good fight in Dublin on the 11th of March on Dublin on St. Patrick's day there. Mike didn't know it, but he was hanging up a world's record for pugilistic it. It has never been batting. Skii accepted—gullible the judge of the McKee womens team. He fought a black man in Dublin on St. Patrick's day." In the fourth and the Dodgers tied it up in the fifth. From then on until the mid-1930s, Oozeeer was batting and Cadeeer continued on the mound, batting for triumph. On the Cadeeer was hit five through the extra inning, and the Dodgers vert their natives into run. Oozeeer seemed to grow stronger as the Cadeeer went down. The Dodgers backhit bats from the 17th until ending the end, then, later, became a member of the Dodgers and a teammate of his bitter rival of that day, and the major or a year ago. QUESTIONS—ANSWERS IN NEGRO HISTORY To produce a winning team in the game of life, or one that will make a better showing on the gridiron of time, we must replace our coaches, trainers, captains and players with men who know the game thoroughly and who will not flinch or falter even in the face of overwhelming pressure. Our rosters must be made up of the ranks of those who are "steel hilt" loyal and faithful to every racial cause, issue, ideal and institution. By GEORGE WELLS PARKER Author, "The Children of the Sun" Published every Saturday at 409-410 Odd Fellows Temple, Houston, Tex. Questions pertaining to Negro biography and too little will be answered by the subject, and too long will be answered by the space will not permit or the subject will not answer. Questions such as properly answered, subject to proper enclosure are included. Address all comments to the Associated Negro Press, 2433 Inwood Avenue, New York, NY 10026. Entered as second-class master May 28, 1919, at the postoffice at Houston Texas, under the Act of March 3, 1879 When we get such an aggregation as this on the field—coached and trained by men well versed in the game and our cause represented by players of the "never say die" spirit, who fight hard and strong throughout the game, backed up, cheered, encouraged and applauded by true and tried rooters—other teams that clash with ours on the gridron may win the victory or hold us to a tie. We will only know how they been in a game; and ultimately victory will perch upon our banner and our racial cause shall triumph. Were the Pyramids built for tombs astronomical observations? - C. L. K. Ware. The Pyramids were built as tombs astronomical aspects in true belief appear to have been secondary to the tombs as built as tombs for the dead. PARENT-TEACHER ASSOCIATIONS BADLY NEEDED. HOUSTON, TEXAS, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 1925 Having noticed the activity upon the part of the Parent-Teacher Associations at the local white public schools and the recognition accorded these organizations by the board of education and head of the local public educational system, The Informer is of the opinion that our colored public schools, particularly the ward or elementary schools, should have such organizations. What building secrets did the Egyptians lans have which we do not possess? F. D. G. Springfield, Ohio. "DOWNED IN OUR TRACKS" TOO OFTEN! Football is life's most typical game and can only be played by sturdy, robust, alert, quick-thinking, courageous and determined Many. Their cement, color, rock drilling, lifting enormous weights, are but a few secrets which we no longer possess. Such an organization will bring the parents and patrons of the public schools in closer touch with the teachers, and will play an important factor in improving the conditions obtaining around the majority of the colored ward schools in this city. In a hectic and gruelling struggle for supremacy on the gridiron between two strong and powerful aggregations, the team will generally emerge victorious that puts up the best offense and defense; that has the best team-play and co-ordination of forces that has respect for its leadership, selected by the members of the team and not one superimposed on the eleven by some opposing team; whose players are a unit in every play called by the check or in breaking up the plays attempted by the opposing side. Was Zeus an African god?—G. C. V., Boston, Mass. Zeus was originally Cretan. The African colonists and it is supposed that Zeus was an African deity detain as he was believed to have once dwelt in the city of Cretan. So many of the colored parents and patrons of the public schools of Houston think that the teachers of the race should take the race into their own hands. They believe that the race and thus stop "pass the buck" on all such matters to the colored school principals and teachers, and then criticise and lambast said teachers when they do not take the lead in many matters arising in the local system that vitally and directly affect our children. How was the Moorish civilization destroyed? Oklahoma, Canton, Ohio. Moorish civilization was destroyed as a result of the religious wars by the Christians and the Mohammedans. Often it happens that some backfield player will punt the pigskin down the field in order to get his team out of danger, and before the opposing player can catch the punt and get in a dash across the gridiron, the punter's forwards will rush through and down the player, catching the football, in his tracks; and thus he is unable to "get away." This is no brief for colored principals who are more concerned about holding their jobs and making a hit with the school head than in seeing to it that the children on their school campuses do not have to wade or swim in water every time it rains, or that the school structures are lily heated, poorly ventilated and withal unfit for modern school use; yet if many of these men felt that the parents of the children and patrons of the schools were interested in a concrete and tangible manner, their interest in a concrete and tangible manner, they could doubled more inlcluded and encouraged to do more in this respect than they are now doing or have done in the past. Who was Jehroh—D. K. T., Fulton, Ky. Jehroh was a priest of Midian and Jeroh was a priest of Moses. He was of Arditeh. Too often in the battle of life is our race "downed in its tracks," due largely to the fact that we are not playing the game as we should and as we must, if we intend to win the contest and reflect credit and honor upon our racial continent. What was the greatest city of ancient Ethiopia?—G. H., Kansas City Missouri. Too often our racial captains and leaders can not be depended upon to call the right play; too often they lose sight of team-play in an effort to "star" and "shine" and become the individual heathman. Too often they throw their team and get their team thrown for several yards; too often they "ditch the game" for financial consideration or for empty honors or mere praise from the race's opponents; too often they become excited, lose their fighting heart and either fumble the ball or lose the game. Too often they are the determined drive and furious attack of the opposing players. The city of Merco, often called the Kingdom of Merco, inasmuch as it was the capital of Egypt, late archaeologists have claim that the city was once closer across the northern littoral of Africa, including even the Gold Coast of this true, then Ethiopia was inedible. Some of the ward schools formerly had such associations, but it appears that most of our colored principals looked askance at the movement and did everything they could to discourage and destroy them. The school board, in an act of astonishment and actively engaged in this work, finally threw up the sponge and abandoned the cause. Any number of improvements were made at some of the ward schools through this organization a few years ago; these women were involved in the construction of rocks, rocks, shell and gravel, instead of in mud, slush and water, under some of the ward school buildings; they even bought rocks, dirt and shell and filled in many of the holes, ponds and sloughs in the school yards, when the school system was directly connected with the school grounds. It was also made it possible for the children to have planes and phonographs. PUBLIC FORUM Too often our representatives in this great game of life sigh when they ought to be zagging and zag when they ought to be zigging when a line plunge ought to be employed they attempt an aerial jump or aerial flight in the logical way, they invariably try an end run or center smash. Darrow and The Narrow Often, because of confusion in calling and giving signals, due principally to weak-knuck, pussyfooting, jelly-fish and truckling, the opposing team often picks up the own players and often cause one of their players to fumble the ball; with the result that the opposing team often picks up the fumbled pigskin and races across the goal for a touchdown, and this score generally means victory for our opponents and defeat for our opponents. By William Pickens. (For The Associated Negro Press.) The most impressive thing about the other ten colored people in Detroit so far at the effort to select a jury of white people, even in a common politan northern city, admit under that they are "no proplegued" against colored people to sit properly on a bench, but that they are "no proplegued" against the onlooker that some of them did not intend to make this admission when they came forward to be tested in a court of justice, matured, but persistent and penetrating mind of Clarence Darrow would cry out, as if in complete公理, for prospective woman-juryman would finally confess: "The cause of something the happened to me was not a proplegued, couldn't have an unbiased judgment." Or some other person who had been accused of being he had made up his own mind and who is suddenly asked now whether he had made up his own mind and who is suddenly asked now whether he accepted the evidence independent of what he says defended? "I guess I had better." The colored parents and patrons of the public schools of Houston need to take more interest in their children's education and welfare; and this can be best done only in an organized way and through the instrumentality of the parent-teacher association. The school district is not the only necessary here to go into a lengthy discussion of its merits, and the Informer suggests that the colored parents and patrons of the various ward schools, particularly the mothers of children attending these several schools, perfect such organizations and put forth some concerted efforts to assist the teachers and help the children with some lines as similar organizations among other races in this city. Sometimes our players block the punk of their own backfield kicker when he is trying to punt out of danger or making a try for a field goal; and sometimes this punter stands too near the line of scrimmage to get off any long range pumps. Many of our players take "cold feet" and show the "yellow stank, just as soon as our opponents snap the ball into play, after receiving the kickoff, or the moment the opponents kick the ball off to our team when the referee's whistle proclaims the game begun. HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY. YOUNG FOLKS! Cases are on record where our players, with the ball in their arms and a clear field, have pulled off the 'bonus' of carrying the ball. One of the most trusted employees of a local colored undertaking establishment "went south" recently with several hundred dollars worth of goods, it is alleged, and sold them to another colored undertaker; who, when his attention was called to the fact that the goods were stolen property of a competitor, immediately reimbursed the loser the full monetary value of the stolen goods. Frequently our coaches and trainers, anxious for victory and forgetting themselves for the moment, will rush on the playing field and cause our team to be penalized; often they will insert men in the lineup because of friendship, religious or fraternal reasons, when they know that there are other men on the sidelines and need to play the position than the man selected for the job by them. We mention this incident because it is just another case where our race so often falls down; too many of us want something for nothing, and when we can not make a living by our wits, we proceed to do everything and everybody. Not infrequently our rooters will cheer and applaud a play that means defeat to their cause, due either to their lack of knowledge of the game, downright ignorance or their wonted deception and deceit. To an intelligent colored man, sit by and look on, in these people disease, and Clarence Darrow, coo and humans, and seems to be probing into hurt him. He does not act as if he wished hurt him. He seems evidently doubtful of his ability to be possible. Now and then by some good nature remark, or some humourous half-writing patient, he makes them all laugh, even the patient himself. He seems determined to hurt, he seems determined to find the root of that cancer of race-hatred, he seems determined to hurt. He usually finds it. The onlooker, who has had much experience with him, does not conceive of sometimes the man under the knife was doing his best to conceive of him in a jury—for reasons best known to him—harmed-specifically as sure are we alive, when he said he did not belong to 'any other kind of man' in which he mentioned. We wondered as to whether Darrow saw the Very few colored concerns are able to stand such losses or be victimized in such a manner; and it is to be regretted and deplored that such incidents are always happening, both here and elsewhere. Offtimes our players on the sidelines will pull for our team to lose the game, merely because they are not given a chance to enter the fray and "shine" as individual stars; and are long the team as an assuender by internal bickerings, wrangling, clauses and factions. Not only ought we not to steal and rob our own people, but we should be honest and honorable with and in our dealings with all people and races; for, when employers reach the point where they are going to steal, we must honesty and integrity, our race is going to suffer considerably. Then, again, so many of our coaches do not know the proper time in the game to yank a player or insert a player; and many of them are trying to coach and train our team without even having the principles of the game themselves or even knowing the rudimentary principles of the game. Often race men of means, when asked why they do not embark in some big business venture to afford employment and training to our young people, will argue the point that such few young Negroes can be relied upon and trusted. Too many of our players want to make the 'varsity team in their freshman year, and are not willing to serve their days of apprenticeship as substitutes and practice material for the regular eleven. One leading colored professional man once made the statement that, despite the fact that he had been living in Houston for fully 20 years, he did not know 12 young colored men, between the ages of 18 and 30, that he could or would trust even with a $10 loan. Our team is always committing so many blunders and errors of commission and omission that it is quite a difficult matter for victory to perch on our racial standards; and we seem to be so dense and thick-headed that we can not profit through experience nor try some of the same tactics and trick-plays engineered and staged so successfully by our racial opponents. This is a terrible and ringing indictment against any race or people, and, while the situation may not be as dark and dismal as portrayed by the above race citizen, our young people certainly do need more character development, and this principle must first be instilled and inculcated into the children around the family in water. (We have very few hearths nowadays in modern homes.) In other words, folks, our race is doing very little in a concerted and co-operative way, of a constructive and beneficial nature, save in our church and lodge circles; we have little, if any, teamwork and teamplay, and we suffer entirely too much because of rotten, rank and putrid leadership and crab characteristics among both leaders, players and followers. Darwin never raised his voice, never darrow to feel anything, never ap- pared to feel anything, never de- scindice which the subject dislocated. It the human soul to be ex- amined took the human soul to be ex- amined. In the final analysis, character and not color will be the determining factor in men's and races' dealing with each other, and the man or race devoid of this essential attribute will find himself or itself in a terrible dilemma. Finally, friends, we are downed too much in our tracks; we too easily lose our fighting heart, morale and equilibrium, and HOUSTON HEARD FT. WORTH SAGE IN FINE SPEECH HOUSTON HEARD FT. WORTH SAGE IN FINE SPEECH Last Sunday afternoon in the auditorium of the Dell Fallows Temple, a large and demonstrative crowd listened to W. H. M. McDonald of Pt. McDonald launched into his speech, laying down the predicate that successful men must financial, mental and physical ability, and stated that the Negro through education ability the race displays in the use of the world acknowledges the physical prowess of the race, but it also acknowledges the ability the race displays in the use of the world. The speaker paid a glowing tribute to the Negro's ability to organize, give and deliver a race had been forced by the races to organize churches, lodges and in "No cause on earth, however meritorious can expect to succeed where meritorious can expect to receive five 95 cents out of each dollar for the cost of collection," roared the president in paying his respects to the lodge he criticised severely the lack of competence and depositting it annually in banks owned by our people and receiving a paltry 4 per cent for its use, and stubbornly refusing to organize a Negro bank, with Negroes.
