SUCCESS OF LEFTY
Old-Timers Reminded of Case of Marquard.
Connie Mack is authority for the statement that the Athletics gave the Maracas a good deal of support Grove late in 1924. For a time this sensation of the International league looked like a poor investment. He was a good player, but up good streaks with bad streaks. This year the Judgment of Connie Mack is being justified. It is too early. The Maracas are as Rube Waddell and Ed Eddin Plank. as he is a rugged fellow, and in his left-hand way may yet deserve genial recognition with the greatest and best. When John J. McGraw paid $11,000 for Rube Mack back in 1905 and in 1906 he played in the baseball world rocked over the extravagance of the New York club. Such a price for a pitcher and a left-handed pitcher was paid to John J. was charged with showing scant consideration for the funds in the Maracas. In the Maracas like Grove, was up and down down-and fingers pointed to him as a horrible example of mistaken judgment. The Maracas eventually justified McGraw by developing into one of the best left-handed pitches in the history of the sport. The original octave a hundredfifth.
Golf Balls in Collision
An extraordinary goling freak occurred in the match between the Army society and St. Andrew's University, the Howard and Leont. C. Buchanan Dunlop, white playing in the four-hole Mackie, full iron shots for their seconds on the sixteenth green. Each thought he had to play the ball first, but the ball was not in the two-struck the ball simultaneously. The balls, going toward the hole, twenty yards from the hole, as to drop one on each side of the hole, five yards apart. Golf balls driven by the ball have been known to meet in midair, but this is the first occasion or record of playing by players using the same hole.
Clubs Make Mistake to
Lengthen Their Courses
Chick Evans says that golf clubs make a mistake in lengthening their arms. She moves the tees back and stretched the course to more than 6,200 yards. That can drive the ball a long way have the advantage. The tite hangs on tee shots. Those who can drive long and accurately in a low grip can compel the solos whose drives are not so long to overpress and by over-pressing they drive wild. You can see what disaster a swing you on this course's says Evans.

"Maybe he would be a little coarse a nice sort of way—but that betrays him," she said. "The little coarse makes you strong and docileming and downright." "Well, the description does not tell you that he was going to the party," lingered one of the other girls. "I should think not, from Kate who is a little bit shy, but one like that wouldn't be invited, at least to my house. Imagine liking her, and then they went quick departure toward the driveway. A rather thick set young man was disgusted, and he was in which he left standing beneath a tree while Kate led him forward to the house." "This is my cousin, Tom Waler." "Kate announced, Tom. Hone is the crowd. Find out their names for you. You can see him all round. I never could get to come to one of our parties before." "We came to see her on her cousin standing there at Maude's side apparently delighted to be with her. Why, Colleen?" "She came," Kate accused. "You'd met Mand and couldn't be happy until you met her."
Meantime Mand stood looking more than a little confused, hugging against her chest, close attention to her revised passage. Kate broke the short pasee.
"Tom, you are interested in much more than just a finger at him." Two recently wurns were laid on his shoulders and she fingered a finger at him. "Yes, your mouth is big and pugnacious and, hems my heart, you're getting a little bad."
She carefully darted forth to put slender fingers on Kate's lips. "Please don't," she begged. "I can see you in the room, and I didn't think weed over each other again. I just met him when I was away last week and we were talking time to talk to his cousin for a few minutes. I think I've fallen in love with her." She quite hopefully, she waited the last week we read a sort of description of the sort of man she'd adore. He was everywhere, she's changed her mind, Kate informed him. "She's reflected the last unit it was the you exactly. Of course she was the one who did it, and it didn't sound a bit attractive." But Kate addressed the last words to her. "Tom, you had left to look for Mand."

5. By immodest apparel.
6. By actual adultery.
7. By divorce.
8. IV. The Eighth Commandment (v. 15).
This commandment strikes at the sinful heart. This commandment may be broken.
1. By taking that which actually belongs to another.
2. By measuring and measures.
3. By extortion.
4. By employers defrauding employees.
5. By taking the money to do business work or put in full time.
6. By borrowing and not returning.
7. By going into debt, knowing that payment depends on lying.
8. By unyery.
9. By grievous.
10. By marketing advertisements.
11. By making assignments to escape payment of debts.
12. By strong nations oppressing the world.
V. The Ninth Commandment (v. 10).
The sin aimed at by this command is to take the money to do business work or put in full time. This command may be broken:
1. By actual open lying.
2. By taking the money to falsehoods by the name of God.
3. By slander.
4. By repeating (Lev. 19:18).
This is commonly done by repeating a report without investigating its truthfulness.
5. By creating a false impression (Ex. 23:11).
The breach of grooming.
6. By withholding the truth.
7. By exaggeration.
8. By fattering.
9. By concealing a man for a position of honor and trust who is unfit for it.
V. The Tenth Commandment (v. 17).
This commandment strikes at the desire for that which is unlawful for the desire to possess things, but in the desire to possess that which bechieves to possess things, but have lands and personal property which may have acquired honesty, but by the desire to possess another, it is right for a man to have a wife, but it is sinful to have another wife. This commandment rests on the right rest. It treats not only with the open violation, but with the inner desires at the very purposes of the heart.
Nowhere Else to Go
I have been driven many times to my knees by the overwhelming concern of my children. My own wisdom and that of all about me seemed insurmountable for that day—
Cure for Depression
The best cure for depression is to look around and see what is happening to other people. You are not all the misfortunes of the world.

THE FLINT-GOODRICH TROUBLE DISCUSSED BY N. O. PHYSICIANS
The recent trouble at the Flint Goodrich Hospital, the strike of the student nurses, the walkout of the elected staff of physicians, have brought about definite developments—the physicians intervened—Drs. Frederick, Wéeks, Coker and Cining gave us the underlying cause, the inborn race hatred and prejudice of Superintendent Heath and his failure to give recognition to the doctors and nurses as men and women. Dr. Heath has repeatedly addressed the colored doctors by, names and "nigger" doctors. At one time he attempted to apologize when he used the word "nigger" in a meeting of the board and staff. He refused to accept or act on any suggestion coming from any of the doctors on the hospital. He was not satisfied with the treatments, he is quoted as saying: "When you "nigger" doctors have done your work, get out of the hospital and stop hanging around the lobby "hatching plots and schemes." If you refuse, he intimated that assistance would be called from across the way, pointless and insulting. He issued a bulletin to that effect, when requested by the doctors lectured.

An Ad Each Week Is the Best Way to Speak
The Houston Informer
Mordecai, and the king took off his ring, which he had bestowed upon Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai.
There is a great moral lesson in this bit of sacred history, for we are taught the lesson that he who builds a gullows or digs a ditch for his neighbor or fellowman, is usually the first one to take the first step in own ditch. A word to the wise should be sufficient. Amen!
GOOD STREETS AND AUTOMOBILE SALES
Just as good roads are imperative in order that farmers might transport their products to the market and in order that automobiles, trucks and vehicles can negotiate the distance between towns, so are good streets necessary in a city to stimulate automobiles, and so can give said city an enviable reputation and favorable publicity. If Houston had more good, passable streets in her residential sections, The Informer is of the opinion that local automobile dealers will sell an increasingly larger number of cars each year, and the city's fame would be proportionately increased. The city's automobile dealers are a nice automobile and are able to afford such a car, but their streets are in such a deplorable physical condition throughout the entire year that these people either foreign an automobile, or buy a much cheaper car. The city can not only perform a wonderful service to this community by urging the city council to grade, gravel and put in passable order a larger number of local streets, but by so doing these automobile dealers can also create a larger market for their cars. As one of our advertisers recently said, it is mighty poor business for a city to have a large number of cars in a house, when a ready market would be available for these cars, were the streets in this city, inhabited by the masses, in such physical shape as to warrant and help the residents in buying either a new or reconditioned automobile; and especially when a little concerted action on the part of said auto dealers could influence the city's business. It would be possible practically all of the streets in the urban district proper.
We do not mean by this that these automobile dealers could force the city council to provide and maintain good streets in the residential districts of Houston, but such a petition from any such group of men, taking into consideration all that they have invested in this city and what they have contributed and are concerned about, would not hardly fall upon deaf ears at the city hall! From a business and economic viewpoint and to safeguard the interests of their huge businesses and their heavy investments in Houston, the local automobile agencies and dealers should give this matter of good streets in residential sections some deep study, and should be encouraged to work in order to induce to work for better streets in all the residential sections of Houston inhabited by citizens who can afford automobiles.
STREET GRAVELING PROGRAM AND SECTIONALISM
The Informer's attention has been called to the fact that most of the streets in colored residential sections that have been or are being gravelled, are located in the Third Ward, where most of the colored members of the Houston Committee on Inter-Cultural Corporation either residue, or pastor churches or own rental property. Since the local Inter-Racial Committee is claiming all the credit for the city's graveling and paving program, as it relates to colored residential districts. The Informer wishes to cite their attention to the fact that a few gravelled streets, despite the fact that 17 of the 35 colored members of the local commission reside in the Third Ward. This paper does not begrudge seeing any Negro section gravelled nor paved, but since the graveling is being done out of general funds, the information should be considered. We contend that a few more streets in the Fourth and Fifth districts should be recommended by the local commission for graveling for all the Houston Negroes do not reside in Third Ward, neither are all the home-owners and property-holders residents of that section, nor are all the colored churches and public schools located there. Until we have had time to investigate and see if politics and selfishness are behind this sectional graveling program. The Informer shall reserve its editorial opinions until a later date. This paper prefers to make a survey first, see how many colored streets are located in the city, and see how many colored streets are located in the graveling program, how many of their rent houses, schools and schools are served by these gravelled streets, how many of their personal friends have been taken out of the mire, mud and alime, how many streets they have requested to be gravelled in, how many streets they have requested to be gravelled towards this end after their streets were improved, et cetera.
If the method of procedure snacks of politics and selfishness,
then the Informer will make an expose of the whole affair without
them knowing.

BUILDING A GALLOWS FOR YOUR NEIGHBOR!
And Harbona, one of the chamberlains, said before the king (Amasaurus), Beoh also, the gallows fifty cents high, which he had taken from the king, and the king, standed in the house of Haman. The king said, Hang him (Haman) three times. And Harbona on Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordeal. Then was the king's wrath pacified—Ether 7:9-10. And the king took off his ring, which he had taken from Haman, and the king took off his sword at that time by King Ahasuerus. When Haman found such favor in the sight of the Persian king that he advanced this designer and schemer above all the princes that were with him (Haman), all the servants of the royal ruler and all that resided within the royal gates, had to pay homage and reverence to Haman by royal decree. To be honoured, a Jewish captive and queen of Queen Ethet, refused to be held by the Persian Haman, the latter devised a scheme whereby he could not only slay Mordecal, but the entire Jewish race; for Haman was intoxicated with pride, arrogance and self-importance, and reasoned that he was superior to the Jews and therefore must be adored, worshiped and deified. The king, not wise to the situation and what Haman "killed up his sleeves," readily consented to a royal decree to kill all the Jews in the Persian kingdom and provinces, even to the little children and women; not because the Jews had done wrong or had committed any offense against the Persian people, but merely to satisfy ashish and unholy ambitions of a political trickster and schemer.
"King," Haman urged, "we must act and act at once, or else this inflamer and inciller will have his people up in arms against us, for I have discovered that many of the leading Jewish people are with him, and will back his program to the last ditch. Mordeckai will have his people up in arms against us in a place in our Persian civilization. Why, your honor, this Jewish fellow even employs insulting and vulgar terms when alluding to you and others of the royal household, not only making personally liable to you and others of your dynasty, but openly floating defiance and irreverence in the face of our most high authority." "O, king," Haman tearfully proclaimed, "live forever, and let all thine enemies and adversaries, even to this Mordeckai, himself, feel thy wrath and displeasure, and permit me to erect a gallows on which to hang this chief of conspirators and the arch enemy to our beloved and estimable King Ahasuerus. He has gone against customs, traditions and common Persian practices, and is not ununderable person, but a fit subject for the hangman's noose."

B. Evans, and Prof. William H.
"Finally," Haman entreated, "if it pleases the king, let it be written that Mordaceli and all the Jewish people be destroyed; and I will send them to the king, and give them a charge of the business, to bring it into the king's treasuries." To show his regal approval of Haman's plans and machinations, Khaosanusacre took his ring from his hand and gave it unto Haman. He then sent it to the king, and he said unto Haman, "The silver is given to thee, use both the silver, the Persian people and our royal newspaper to whatever end you desire to bring about the downfall and destruction of these people."

When Mordecai heard about the decree he implored Queen Ethelst to intercede to the king in behalf of the Jews, reminding her of her racial connections; though a Persian queen, and her caller at the same time, was a woman of ruthless massacre of all the Jews, she could not hope to escape.

Queen Esther put on her royal apparel and made herself so beautiful and attractive that she found immediate favor in the sight of the Persian king. The king and Hanan being invited to the Persian court, she made known her desire to the royal head, which he readily granted.

INFORMOGRAMS
A headline appearing in one of our daily newspapers, Woman Urge Hike to Prohibit Trains, reminds of the story about the man who was smoking in a raft, who was dressed in a white, protected against his pollution of the air with his smoke, and asked him to throw away his "tile" shoes and proceed to remove his shoes, when after a few seconds the young lady in a bright smelled remark: "Will you please light your clear?" Baltimore, Md., boasts of the first and only "ice woman" in America; a female "tie orange" they call her "ice woman," owns own business, and delivers over 20 cakes of ice per day to her customers — cold business proposition.
"Drowning men catch at strAWS; another old adage was exemplified, the "ice woman" of Baltimore, Md., was condemned to die on the gallows, for the murder of services of a colored lawyer, Pendleton, to one out of wah-ha-bah services between him and the hangman's noose. The effort of the Negro attorney was the old adage remains as ever as ever.
"Tiger Flower," the "fighting daemon" from Georgia, in defeating Harry Truman, in a Thursday at Madison Square garden, demonstrated his fitness for a larger role. "We've been moving," vidim we can get a second that the deacon can be an elder, "the greater opportunity for the development of his natural fighting abilities."
The Dempsey/Tunney pugilistic counter should pay attention, it can be a great opportunity, the announcement it will be. New York Chicago, and Philadelphia are all heir to the dynasty, together, ought to produce sufficient gage receipts to satisfy an Ajay Democracy challenge.
Another headline reads, "Vegas Negroes have little to complain of: Texas Negroes have much to complain of: Texas Negroes have primaries, and gladly have accepted the invitation, but up to that point the private garages, paint shops, and boarding houses in which the feisty
For fear you were unable to find it. In the daily papers, you call your attorney, W. Eliot, president emeritus of Harvard, died this week. The death of W. Eliot, having occurred almost on the same day, made the demise of such an eminent educator, Charles Eliot, take second rank as news value. Under a Washington, D. C. date line comes the shocking news that in the city of Leavenworth, Kansas, an 11-year-old boy died before reaching one year of age. Well, the poor little infants are blessed with the like and the thousands of Negro citizens of Texas, who on July 24, 1916, died in the locale the primary booths. The Colorado sheriff, who shot the "baby shark" is coming in for his share of criticism. No doubt the foe had learned from experience that the death of a kid is as likely to do as much damage as one from the "gall" of an adult.
Then too, the sheffler when facing the young rober, was in the fix of his arm when his post was approached to first meet him, but when his post was really approach ed, the good fellow forget whether he had been told to call out 'first call' when he came to call out, so he decided to take in and shot first. He lived to report it.

All the "bits bugs" have gone on their vacation, and left us here to watch the show. We can't see the noses for counting the "kneees."
Look there! There goes Madame R. S. Childa and her charming daugherty. She's red hot Packard. These two look like sisters and operate the Janes Pharmacy on Olin Avenue. We can see that mother is exerting to be some day.
Everybody guessing who "Beprian" is, but it took us to find out who she is. Dr. Herman Ebphrain McCoy, protector of the People's Pharmacy, on Milam. Now here, don't start that. O. mammal looks as the big fat dog running to the San Felippe car. Ongoed, spouse she'd fall down, and jar the new Epson Building.
There he goes. R. T. Andrew, the grocer, on his way home to lunch. His wife, a blackeyed peacock, two chickens, three pounds of yam, two pounds of good old butter as a chaper. We eat dinner later. Wish it was his grocery man.
