NEGRO LEADERS HONORED
The conductor of this column acknowledges receipt of invitations to two testimonial gatherings, Spring, Arkansas, and Chicago, Illinois. The two men thus awarded were John L. Webb, supreme custodian of the National Negro Business League, and Jesse Binga, president of the headquarters at Hot Springs) and vice-president of the National Negro Business League, and Jesse Binga, president of the Binga State Bank at Chicago, and one of the leading business men of Mr. Webb attained his fiftieth earthy milestones on September 19, and his first press hit in an event: Birthday reception on 19th, fourteenth anniversary celebration as superintendent of Sunday school of Roanoke Baptist Church, in the Rev. Joseph T. Hill, former teacher at Bishop College, Marshall, is pastor,
Mr. Binga's friends honored him when he ticketed the banquet upon his arrival to the board of directors of the Liberty Life Insurance Company, attended a felicitous ellipse. This event, attended by the business, commerce and education community, was staged at the Vincennes Hotel on September 27th, in different sections of the country, both of which have done and are still doing a wonderful piece of constructive work. We account and encourage which their myriad friends and well-wishers showed upon them. It presages a new day for the Nerger race to lead and outwardly support a banquet as a testimonial for contributions to the race and live and wait for the brickbats, and the fragrance of the flowers can be enjoyed and appreciated. We are learning to hand bouquets to the men while they live and wait for the jersey and the jersey of the Grim Reaper has put an end to their earthly care. We take this occasion to commend the promoters of these two testimonials to the men who have contributed the honorees for what they fields of human endeavor; for, after all is said and done, "ibabo omnia" and the world is more interested in the doing man than in the talking man!

Alabama Floggers Vent Spleen On Witnesses
Birmingham, Ala.—(ANP)—Before the signature of Governor Grace had dried on the anti-flogging bill, which he signed Friday, a report was received by the state's attorney's office that Matthew Drew and his wife had been attacked by floggers and found dead. The report said Drew and his wife had been subpoenaed by the grand jury to testify in a flogging case. Friday night about 8 o'clock an automobile, with six armed men, drove up to the Drew home. The police found the man, who was inside the house, but found that Drew and his wife were on the outside.

Houston Pastor Does Not 'Choose' To Accept Church
The church is divided over the question of offering more money to the pastor-elect. It seems that the church is raising the figures offered. The church members, however, are understood to be more favorable to such action. As the church is preparing to Rev. Harrison in Houston, it will be sometime before it is known as to whether rho will accept. The pulpit is being raised during which time nearly a hundred applicants have preached. **Eater Caha Tricot Content Today**

Negro's Quick Thinking Saved 26 Passengers
Los Angeles, Cal.—(ANP)—Twenty-six persons were saved from almost certain death when the elevator in which they were riding in the Hall of Justice fell from the 7th floor to the basement, Friday. Only the cool-headedness and presence of mind of Harry Tidrington, the operator, prevented the probable loss of not only his passenger's lives, but also his own.
Front Baillif Paul Burnette, in charge of twelve jurors, left court hearing of a liquor case in Judge Russell's court for luncheon. In the car, the entrance of of the jury increased the passengers to twenty-six, when only sixteen is the stipulation in the permits.

Supreme Chancellor Pythian Order Takes Issue With Informer
New Orleans Fraternalist, Who Waged Bitter Fight Against Pythian Supreme Lodge Meeting at Dallas, Texas, In 1929, States His Position—Claims His Attitude and Statements Grossly Misrepresented By Informer Editor—Grows Sarcastic Regarding Pythian Order In Texas.
New Orleans, La., Sept. 20, 1927.
Editor, The Houston Informer, Editor, Smith Street, addressed You.
Sir:
Copy of The Houston Informer under the date of August 27, 1927, was received by me on my vacation after the close of the supreme lodge at Chicago, Illinois, August 16, 2027.
I would not depart from my rule of ignoring criticisms of my course in the Pythian Lodge of North America, etc., by newspapers or otherwise, were it not for the fact, Editor, your column contained the following against me as being uttered by me during my address to the supreme lodge in opposition to holding the session when fully half of the audience he was addressing lived in the South, including the speaker himself, Editor, to publicly withdraw the charges
In your long editorial containing more than half of the editorial mat of your newspaper, I find the following:
"Going a bit further, Mr. Green charged that the white South woman might attend the supreme session at Dallas."
You know, Mr. Editor, if you heard me say that, I made no charges against the white South, and you also know, and I know that any woman in any city in the far South she would be in any city in the North.
I also note in quotation marks, the following:
"The South is no decent place for any black man's wife, daughter."

The editor, you would not consider your case so weak, or your cause so desperate, that you had to misrepresent the words used by me in holding its 1929 session in Dallas, Texas, as an excuse for your defeat. "That the supreme chancellor is a Southern, Southerner, and the grand chancellor is a Northern jurisdiction in a Dixie state."
I am proud of the fact that I am a Southern; I was born in the South, and therefore know the South, and expect to continue living in the South, and therefore know the supreme lodge as to the matter of conditions and to give good reason not bring the supreme court and the uniform rank encampment to Dallas, Texas or any other city in the far
Your pretended surprise, Mr. Editor, at my attitude in the matter of the Knights of Pythias at Dallas, Texas, in 1929, is not borne out by any facts. I tell you that, just this year, and sitting on the platinum Willis when you introduced the encyclopedia inviting the supreme lodge to hold its biennial session in the state of Texas, you did not resolve was unanimously adopted by your grand lodge. Neither you, the Editor, nor any other or member of the Knights of Pythias of Texas cared for or sought my opinion concerning that invitation to the supreme lodge of the Knights of Pythias in any of the states of the United States, and Chancellor Willis, and he, therefore, did not deem it necessary to ask my opinion concerning the meeting of the Grand Chancellor Willis, and he, therefore, corresponded was had the following correspondence was had the Grand Chancellor Willis and myself:

Hon. S. W. Green,
Supreme Chancellor,
67 Pythian Temple,
New Orleans, La.
Dear Sir and Brother:
As a result of a resolution unanimously
lodge inviting the convention of the
supreme lodge to Texas in 1929, I am now making some efforts to
have the supreme lodge invite me and I am desirous to know whether or
not I should be invited. I have conferred with the
Chamber of Commerce here; with the M-K-T Railroad and some of the
Ballast and Railroad and I am assured by each and every one that if the supreme lodge accepts
the power of this community will be able to make their stay both profitable and
comfortable. Let me hear from you.
With best wishes,
Yours fraternally,
(Signed) W. S. WILLIS,
Grand Chancellor,
New Orleans, La.
Friday, 22, P. M.
Sir W. S. Willis, Willis Grand Chancellor, Temple Building, Dallas, Texas, Temple Building, Dallas, Dear Sir and Brother: of the 10th instant, and I note that your grand lodge has been directed to invite the Knights of Pythaon of North Ampersand
ca, etc., to Texas in 1929, and you are invited to the invitation will meet my approval. Wish to advise. I have been—and will be—advised that the state not be advisable to have our supreme lodge meet in the state of Texas or that we state under presidents pressure of dislike segregation and jim-crow cars as now practiced in the South. I do not favor the convention of the supreme lodge coming to the state of Texas in 1929.
I do not belong, Mr. Editor, to that class of "Upton Tom" colored men who will attempt to excuse and conceive of the race of my race in their civil rights in the South, and delight to state in the North that the treatment given colored people in their civil rights is as good a condition as the white people in the North. The white man of the South knows that the colored man of intelligence who makes such state of mind should feed their vanity is both a liar and a hypocrite.
I note the statement in your editorial that Dallas lost to Indianapolis by 10 points, and Reading from the record, Mr. Editor, we find Indianapolis received 60 points in the place of meeting of the supreme lodge.
I find the following in your editorial emphasized by the use of capital
"It was not the adverse vote that causes The Informer to discuss the lawsuit against Texans are thoroughbreds and can take defeat cheerfully), but it is not the adverse vote that Hon. S. W. Green of New Orleans, Louisiana, the supreme chancellor of the Pythian order, who took the oath of office, will most bitter and subtle fights against Dallas and the entire South. I am forced to take issue with that statement, Mr. Editor, for the reason that, in my address to the supreme court, I will say that a "most bitter and subtle fight against Dallas and the entire South." I did oppose the supreme lodged in the lawsuit or any other city in the far South on account of segregation, discrimination and "lim-crw" railroad cars and other violations.
I live in New Orleans, Louisiana, which is one of the most liberal cities in the South in the matter of race recourse. I have not and will not invite yet I have not and will not invite the supreme lodge to hold one of its selections, and we will suffer as long as our brethren and sisters who are far more fortunately situated than we, will be required to ride on the train to New Orleans to suffer the humiliations and insults from "jim-crow" street cars. We have in Louisiana a railroad commission that consider enough of its colored citizens, to require each railroad train passing through the state of Louisiana to stop for the sexes, and to furnish compartments on each train where our men may smoke without doing so in the railroad company failing to comply with this requirement in the state of Louisiana to resolve a railroad resolution by our railroad com
mission seven years since. No such requirement has been made by the railroad commission of the state of Texas, which was the time I was in Texas in June 1927.
While the delegates from Louisiana, Mississippi and Oklahoma volunteered to stay in South, and are willing to remain in the South, and do remain in the South, they are not sufficiently narrow to accept those conditions when they can meet in other cities without having to undergo the humiliations and insults of the South. I also note the following in your editorial:
"Not only that, but he literally recited Texas, despite the fact that he was a slave. He was a member of honor at the grand lodge of the Colored Knights of Pythias in a bead loud and profuse in his comments and compliments touching upon the fine manner in which delicately he presented the annual sessions of the order in Texas are greeted and treated by the convents held."
It is true, Mr. Editor, that I have been a guest at the grand lodge of Texas ever since beginning with the year 1905, except one year when I could not come to the grand lodge engaging engagements. I have enjoyed the visits to the grand lodge of Texas which the delegates and visitors have been welcomed to the cities of Texas and some other states, and courtesies extended our representatives to the grand lodge meetings. The fact that I have always gone to the meetings of the grand lodge of Texas from meeting of the grand lodge Texas the past 22 years in "jim-crow cars, except during the past few years the grand lodge meetings are special trains to run from certain cities to the meeting places of the grand lodge, and I enjoy the comforts railroad travel in Texas without being up in one of the "jim-crow cars having males and females having to use the same toilets, and many times have had to stand because I could not get to the car provided for colored passengers.
Whether the grand lodge of Texas is obligated or where its obligations or where its lodge of Texas was in a flourishing financial condition, I have endeavored to discharge my duty in my official capacity, to represent the officers and representatives in the matter of promoting the best interest of the people of Texas. If the grand lodge of Texas is now in a flourishing financial condition, I wish to remind you, Mr. Editor, that the officers have advised and counseled with the officers and representatives of the grand lodge of Texas in the opinion of the bishop and every effort put forth to make the grand lodge of Texas one of the most prosperous grand lodge of our country.

better class of colored people in the South, because we know what they need in the South, and we stay in it. Our uniform rank members, born and coated in the South, and knowing how to stay in their places in the South will seldom, if ever, have a place in the South, the irresponsible element of white people in the South. We entirely different matter, Mr. Edison of Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts into the far South, and have them pass through the streets of one of our Southern cities with the other, collars of their uniform, or to have them attempt to ride on one of our uniforms to attempt to resent the insults and of course, irreparable injury to the order of the Knights of Pythias.
I also note the following as a part of your editorial:
In the State juridification, with W. S. Willa of Dallas, as grand chancellor, has made a wonderful program, 10 years, to rank the richest Pythonian juridification in the world, having assets and resources of 800,000 and all accomplished and consummated in a state of the "far more duplicated or approached by any other juridification, either of West or the "unclellied South" Mr. Editor, it is one thing to deal in glittering generalities, and another thing to deal in facts as figures, more extreme wealth, but a million dollar to men, per person would mean extreme wealth, but a million dollar to men, per person would mean powerful wealth per capita, and not in accordance with the records of the Reading from the records again, Mr. Editor, I find from the report of the grand chancellor, the seal of the grand lodge of the Colored Knights of Pythian of Texas the following May 20, 1927—$747,702,000 I also find from the report of the grand chancellor of the Colored Knights of Pythian of Texas the Membership May 20, 1927, 18,001.
Reading again from the records, I find that the library has a grand jurisdiction of Alabama for the grand lodge of the Knights of Pythias of North America, etc., the following:

Dandruff, falling hair, itching scalp and baldness are enemies to scalp health and the growth of long, lustrous hair. Scientists admit they are "germ" diseases and to cure them the germ must surely be destroyed. To destroy these germs, enrich the scalp. Grow the hair.

1. I Elijah's Message to Abah (v. 17, 18). When Jesus became the wife of King Abah, she waged a savage war against God of Israel, killing all those who globally the true religion and set up idolatry instead. Elijah suddenly appeared, announcing the suspension of the government upon the people for their idolatry. He sounded three striking吼声: 1. As the Lord God of Israel leth. He knew that he represented the living God, therefore did not fear the wrath of God. 2. Before whom I stand. His standing before God indicated his constant readiness to go on his errands. 3. Before whom I answer to Elijah these years, according to my word. "This suspension of moisture continued for three and half years, answer to Elijah" prayer (Jan. 5:17). 1. A Challenge to Balaam Worship (v. 17). As soon as Elijah had delivered his message concerning the drought, he retired from the king's sight. 2. He shows himself to Abah (v. 17, 18). 1. Many of the people had not wholly forsaken God. They attempted to be the only one to silence of the people (v. 21). This may have been because of fear of the God. The question was the opinion that to be religious was the only thing necessary, irrespective of the being worshipped. c. The method of worshipping were to be provided, one to be offered to Baal, the other to God. (v. 21). Offering by the prophet of Baal (v. 25-29). I shall decline. Mr. Editor, without thanks, your gratuitous and inausuil advice to divorce my wife or reassign the advice to my daughter of the grand掌柜 of Louisiana, and to remove to the North or South, and by precept and example, and by proper methods—shall try to secure more tolerant conditions for my race who have made it possible for me to remove to the North or East, and by precept and example, than I could live in the South. If I so desired, I shall not accept my race, and I shall desert the unfortunate members of my race, at a time when I may be of more service to them by removing, and I shall remain with them, and shall suffer with them, and shall accept the on behalf of service by helping to amelio-

The colored Pythianis of America have not met in Alabama in 45 years, and have met in Georgia in 45 years, and yet Georgia has the largest membership, and pays the largest amount of taxes to the supreme lodge of Pythianis of America have not met in Tennessee in 45 years. They have met in North Carolina in 45 years. If any of our grand jurisdictions should have reasons to complain of the failure of the supreme lodge of Pythianis of America to biennial meetings in their grand jurisdictions, it should be the grand lodge of Mississippi in which the supreme lodge of Pythianis of America has since it was born in that state in the year 1880. It has, therefore, been 47 Knights of Pythianis of North America, etc, met at its birthplace—the grand lodge of Mississippi, and Etoe, the lodge of Pythianis from the grand lodge of Mississippi would not invite the supreme lodge of the state to attend its meetings, etc., to vote to accept the humilious conditions of "jim-crow" railroad cars and jim-crow" street cars to meet the supreme lodge to hold one of its biennial seasons.
It is true, Mr. Editor, that the supreme lodge of the Knights of Pythaen was one of the first New Orleans in 1883, and your humble servant was one of the members of that supreme lodge's proceedings of that supreme lodge's session. We did not have at that time any jim-cow car, nor any jim-cow car with a seat. We have at that time any supreme court composed of the ladies of our race. We have at that time any supreme court composed of the uniform rank of the campment of the uniform rank of the
Knightis of Parkville. We had at that time only 28 representatives from 13 Jacksonville, Fla., in 1899, and I was one of the representatives who voted against sonville, Florida. Racial relations were far more pleasant, more tolerant and more agreeable in Jacksonville than in 1927. Furthermore, we had a very small representation of members of the supreme court, and no encampment in Florida, Kentucky, and no "jim-crow" street cars in Jacksonville, Florida. We had also held biennial sessions in Kansas City, Missouri, in St. Louis, Missouri, in Kentucky, and in Baltimore, where these cities mentioned ARE in the South, but not in the far South, and where our biennial sessions in either of our biennial sessions ever an invitation has been and may be extended to the supreme lodge to our sessions in either of those cities.
If the mayors of Brownville, Texas and of Houston, Texas, backed by the navy of the United States government, could not prevent clashes between the soldiers of the United States and the sixteen stabbingible members of their race from bringing about race riots, then what chance would there be for the supreme court to decide the fate of North America, South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia to rank members of the supreme court rank members and some irresponsible members of the uniform rank coming in contact with the irresponsible members in the report of the proceedings of the supreme lodge found on the front page of the report on August 27, 1927, I note your corre-
I am sure, Mr. Editor, that the statements charged against Mrs. Kahn were not the supreme court of the order of Calantha were either made in ignorance by your correspondent or were willful in the wrongdoing by her by some person who desired to create ill feelings between her and the representatives of the good wo
The charge that the selection of Dallas, Texas, for holding the biennial 1929 as being responsible for the purpose of nominating Sir Wilkins for the office of supreme chancellor, isPUllman, the president of Wilkinsville province, but it is his right to be a candidate for supreme chancellor of Dallas, Texas or Indianapolis, Indiana. The records of the supreme chancellor are necessary at any time to go to the grand jurisdiction of any state to have its candidate selected to the of-
It seems very strange, Mr. Editor, that you should be so terribly wrought that you should not have to erate insulting language contained in your editorial columns under date of August 27, 1927, because the supreme North America, etc., refused to accept the invitation of the grand lodge, College of North America, etc., refused to session in Dallas, Texas in 1929. We have the example of the great Mormon church in the largest membership of the colored race reside in the South, and yet that church has persistently refused to modulations in the Southern cities, because the colored delegates to their general conference have been so reluctant to modulations in the Southern cities that they could receive in cities in the North and East. We have the example of the Young Women's Christian Association, composed largely of people, referred to as Portlanders, in Portland, year, because the citizens of that city refused to accord to their colored proper accommodations on account of
Your obvious effort, Mr. Editor, to show you the virtuous personal attack upon the supreme chancellor of the order in your editorial of The Houston Informer, because he dared do his duty in advising the supreme lodge in the selection of the reputation your journal has for the reputation your journal has for the race, and is added confirmation of the wisdom of the supreme lodge in not insisting in its session in Dallas, Texas in 1929.
Every man that leaves home to go to the lodge does not get there. The lodges are not built, they tell their wives all about the lodges that they never even know. Same goes for the lodges that they never even know.
