THE MIRROR
This will be an interesting fight, for certain national Republican leaders who are well-known for their reliable and authentic information, that they will look with disdain upon us and on them, on which there are no colored delegates; and Mr. Heaver's favorable attitude towards the Negaes will allow them to distance at length in this column.
In the mountains, "we shall see what we shall see!"
The board of education has designated a school district, for the purpose of selection within the Independent School District, at which time students may prove or be required important qualifications.
The district proposition has to do with authorizing the school board of Houston "to annually levy, assess and collect the $28,000 the district has to pay within district, to be used for the expenses of operating and sustaining public schools in said district, and to pay the tuition and fees for the district fund for bonded indebtedness of $28,000 and an indebtedness of $28,000 among the district was created,县.
The second proposition gives the district a $28,000 bond district in the sum of $48,000 and a bond district in the sum of $48,000.

Europe In Fifteenth Century
Among the men who accompanied Columbus on his first voyage was Pedro Alonso Nino, a Negro, who was the captain and piloted one of the famous ships. He made another voyage to America with the Columbus in 1498, and six more with the Spaniards in planning the first successful commercial voyage to the New Atlantic Ocean. He another Negro explorer was Nufo de Olano. He accompanied Balcon on his first voyage to the Caribbean Ocean. Three years later Balcon used thirty Negroes to help direct the ships to build materials across the Ames with which to build ships for use in exploration. He used Negro and Indian laborers in building the first ocean to ocean highway on the American continent. He also a few others of the Negro explorers were free, by far the greatest of them, and possibly a few others of the Negro explorers were free, by far the greatest of them, and had introduced many of them into Spain. The celebration naval years and had introduced many of them into Spain. The celebration naval years and had introduced many of them right at the time to deal in slaves. It is certain that Negro slaves came to the New World with the very first ships, and 1500 saw them in the West Indian islands, though it was several years later.

Historians no longer believe that Haitians was the first to discover America, but even more recently, they visited the shores of North America, including what is now the New England coast, as early as the 16th century. Leif Ericson touched these shores. Thurgood Marshall in 1902, Thornton Finnberg in 1011, all visited North America. But these were not the only means. Prof. Leo Wiener asserts that Negroes from the Guinea and the Congo landed in Columbus in 1602, and were engaged in regular and extensive trading more than 500 years. Columbus is proved to be the origin of Negroes with their trading masters in America before Columbus is proved to be the origin of Negroes with their trading masters in America, sculpture and design, by the occurrence of a black nation at Columbus, not specifically in the country, but not specifically by Columbus, emphatic reference to the origin from Guinea who had fished in the same composition and bearing the same name, as that frequent in Africa. "Besides these proofs of the Negro's early visits to America, the Early Indian carvings, found among the riches of the mound builders and Fujian, repeatedly show the Negro contenence, clearly and unmistakably. There is also a striking warship of the Indians and that of the indigenous of Africa. "Many of the warships of the Indians and that of the indigenous of Africa, which have hitherto been considered as indigenous and brought into fashion, cotton, sweet potato and peanuts." Ovira, a Spanish name "game with that evil lot of the Negroes, the cultivation of the potato, the potato dish, the potato potato, is thought to have come to America from Guinea by way of the Congo, the main parts of the country. Many of the words referring to them are of any means. Prof. Leo Wiener asserts that Negroes from the Guinea or African origin, according to DuBois.

territory now belonging to the United States. In the year 1951, Governor Eugene O'Rourke passed the passage of Jews, Moors, or recent converts, but was permitted to remain in the United States inborn in the power of Christianity. This provision was evidently made because it was thought that their Christian tractable and willing to submit to the domination of their masters. But the creation which centuries of slavery later made of him, and which he is very soon will find Oruro requesting that Negroes be not sent over as they ran away to the Indians and "taught their children to work" and withhold her permission for the imposition of slaves, but soon after her arrival in the United States old plan and 1606 sent Ovando seventy-five Negroes for work in the American market and their coming to America marked the beginning of the slave trade in which millions of the slave population was transported to those shores by the Christian nations of the world during the centuries between 1600 and the early 1900s a few years before the American Civil War. It must be supposed for one moment that these slave explorers played merely a minor part in the great undertakings of which they contributed to submit their lot as slaves, particularly when injustices and hard work had manhood. And since their frequent uprisings had a bearing on both the explorations in and the history of slavery, it is well to take notice of some of them, before proceeding with their own research.

gro. When the white settlers in New Orleans, which was the only settlement in the territory, had decided to buy the land, they made the sugar industry pay, it was a Negro from the island of Santa Domingo who taught them how to make sugar. They were a ready market beside the sugar from the Bahama Islands and Cuba, thus the sugar industry grew.
The part played by Negro slaves and their descendants in the explorers and World readers like a drama, and well may be ranked among the most important life and civilization. Many of the Negroes who were brought to America in the early years were men of color, and were often trained either as Mohammednus Catholics. Some of them skilled in medicine and still others were acquainted with the healing art, all of them from Cuba or Mexico, and hard at work with the splendid account of themselves amid the pain of the wilderness of the World. Cortes carried Negro slaves with him from Cuba to Mexico, and they built mountains. One of these, Saco by name, was the first to sow and rear the crops in the company sent by Vulayana in 1820 to punish Cortes for imprisonment. One of them carried small animals.

HOLSEY LAUDS NEGRO WOMEN FOR BUSINESS
Greenboro, N. C., Allen L. L., Holley, secretary of Tuskegee Institute and Greenboro Business League, pointed out many significant facts to the students at Bennett College for Women in his chapel talk Friday morning. Pointing out the fact that the two largest enterprises in America are the Poro Company of St. Louis; and the Madane Walker Company of Indianapolis, and that likewise 85 percent of the business in the country controlled by the women of the household, M. Holley challenged his hearers to give attention to the economic life of the race. The big problem, he said, "is that business, building an economic foundation."
Moton To Address Tuskegeeans At Detroit Meeting
Detroit, Mich.,—(ANP)—Dr. Robert R. Moton, professor of the Tuskegee Institute, will address the graduates at the regular meeting of the National Tuskegee Alumni Association, which will be held at the university to an announcement made by Jesse O. Thomas, president of the organization.
The dates of the meeting have been changed from June 19 and 20 to June 20 and 21, in order to make the convention more convenient for a large number of attendees. Evoking the prophecy that this convention will be very largely attended, the local committee has arranged an event to be held at the university including entertainment features of unusual interest. A sample for discussion will be "How Best Can Tuskegee Institute, with its National Extension, Activities, and Individuals." This subject will be discussed by prominent graduates, and members of the institute faculty, including Alvin A. McCormick, the association and registrar of the institute; John L. Webb, Hot Springs, Arkansas; and Mara, Carrie S. Ramsey.

**PRIMARY TOPIC-Jesus as Jesus
JUNIOR TOPIC—Hailing Jesus as King
INTERMEDIATE AND SENOR HOPE-IC The Kingly Quotient of Jesus. IC The Holy Spirit of Jesus. IC Jesus Asserts Messianic Authority. I Jesus Officially Presented to the Jewish.Nation as King.-v. 141) This should not be designated the triumphal procession in outward appearances. The shouts were empty and meaningless. It was the promised King publicly offering 1. The preparation (v. 14, 6). 1) Two disciples set for the窦 (v. 14) He told them just where to go to find it, and how to answer the owner's inquiry. The providing of this animal was planned according to Christ's foreknowledge plan according to Christ's foreknowledge. 1) Obedience of the disciples (v. 46). Without asking why, they go at his holding. The command may have seemed unreasonable, but he did so. 2) The entry into Jerusalem (v. 7, 30). The disciples put their garments upon the aisle and the Lord set it upon (v. 1, 7). This act showed their recognition of Hlms as their King.
2. The temple cleaned (vv. 15-19).
For the various sacrifices; in the case of the animals were needed. Many persons came from the distant parts of the land; therefore it was impracticable for them to bring the animals, then, so they brought money and bought the animals needed. This privilege the law had granted to them was necessary. When evil noun used it as an opportunity for gain it became an offense before God. It defiled the law and pointed to the source of source of money and drove out the money changes, overthrowing their tables and pouring out their money, and putting out their money. It be the king of the temple and one with God. That which God intended to be a "house of prayer for all mankind" was the source of this action symbolized the call of the men to repentance.
III. Jesus' Chargey Authority (vv. 15)
They challenged Him to show by what authority He accepted the honors of the Messiah, and who gave him the money he received for money changers. This seemed to place Jesus in a dilemma. He responded by a question which placed him in a difficult situation. John was his forerunner, the divinity of His commission rested upon that of John. They were powerless to discern John, because his speeches were so vague, and they had accepted John's message they could have been prepared to accept His. They weakly confessed they could not answer the question.
Route to Glory
"He must increase, but I must decrease." This is your tone to Glory, and you decrease, your life will be changed to what you want it to be. In fact, it will be fruitful. In all things you want it to be, if you would be fruitful for Him."

The philosophy of Nietzsche has always enthralled me in spite of the many thoughts he advances with it which I cannot bring myself to agree. He can be hard to care for, but a brief moment can catch a new vision of power; and its overwhelming possibilities for accomplishing great things. The philosopher was a devotee at the shrine of power, and his every word makes you want to seek baptism in that faith in spite of yourself and makes you want to seek baptism in America today there are about twelve million citizens who are practicing this nation's of this nation, because they have no appreciation of power and its significance about which this group hovers along this distal edges, we are all generalists, we are all power is wealth. likewise we all generally erocognize that wealth can be acquired by any man my founded upon an economic system.

HOUSTON, TEXAS, SATURDAY, MAY 12, 1928
WORKING FOR PARTY HARMONY!
With the Republican precinct and county conventions out of the way and delegates having been elected to the Republican State Convention which meets in Dallas, Texas, May 22; and with the results of these conventions showing the majority of Texans, who participated in these said conventions, favorable to the presidential nomination of Honorable Herbert C. Howell, the Republican National Convention at Kansas City on June 12, 1928, it appears to The Informer that the Republican factions or rather in Texas should get together now on a harmony program and not go to the national parley with a contest.
It was to obviate the necessity of another quadratic contest and internal wrangle that the "harmony resolution" was adopted at the statewide conference held under the auspices of the Independent Colored Voters' League of Texas, at Dallas, Texas, March 24, 1928, when the convention went so far as to indicate its preference for delegates-at-large from Texas to the national convention of the G. O. P.
While it is true that this action on the part of this statewide conference of colored citizens was not binding or obligatory upon the delegates, it was a mighty fine feature for those between and representation for all warring factions on a fair and equitable basis.
If the Republicans of Texas are to make a commendable showing in November for the national ticket and their gubernatorial candidate in this state, it will be well to work out a harmony program before, not after, the national convention; for it has been The Informer's observation that wounds made in June, when the contesting delegates are denied seats in the national convention, would result in only the "ins" supporting and voting for the presidential elections and state legislature, while the "outs" remain away from the polls or vote the Democratic ticket.
Since Texas will be represented by 26 delegates and 26 alternates at the Kansas City convention (52 representatives in all), it does appear to this paper—which wants to see harmony and the resultant large vote polled in the November election for both the national and state Republican tickets—that some program can be projected and consummated between now and the Dallas convention. This would allow for differences and make for party solidarity and unity rather than for internal bickering, strife and bitterness.
Whether for an instructed or uninstructed delegation, from this angle it is apparent that the Hoover supporters and backers will be in control of the state convention on May 22; and if the state party instructs its delegates to vote for Hoover and invokes the rule, even though some concessions are made by the party chiefs to some of the so-called "insurgents" very little, if any, damage to the state convention. If, rather than such a stroke would be calculated to harmonize those belligerent factions and give the state a united Republican party in the general election.
In this connection, the Informer again suggests eight delegates at large from this state with one-half vote each, instead of the customary four delegates with one vote each, and four alternates. The Republicans of Oklahoma recently pursued such a course that they thereby adjusted amicably internal differences and contentions.
It will be rather difficult to persuade voters to support the national and state ticket of the Republican party in November, when these same voters are not accorded what they think is a fair and square deal in June!
The welfare, success and perpetuity of the Republican party in Texas should be paramount to the political ambitions and personal interests of voters. The biased, biennial and quadrilateral bickering, fights and schisms occur within the ranks of the party in this state, no appreciable headway will be made towards building up and maintaining a virile, robust and functioning Republican party in Texas.
Without the sacrifice of any partisan principles or the desertion of the Hoover cause and standards, a program of harmony can at least be presented to the warring groups; and if these opposites do not accept the olive branch, then will be responsible for whatever befall them from a partisan and political standpoint.
After all efforts towards effecting and maintaining peace have proved futile, then war is inevitable; but until the Republican leaders of Texas show, by their actions, that they prefer accord to and concord; strife and bickering to harmony; war to accord; tyranny to united believers; that they will employ rare judgment and uncommon wisdom by getting together and burying their differences at home, and not washing and airing their dirty linen before the contests and credentials committees of the Republican National Convention.
The Informer is not backing up on its pro-Hoover attitude, for Mr. Hoover is still our candidate, and this paper believes, as it has done throughout this campaign, that air Hoover is the most available candidate the Republicans can nominate for their national party. Hoover instructed delegation from Texas to the national party, but electing delegates in May for a national parliament convention, one thing and getting out votes for the same ticket in November is another proposition.
Real political organization can be maintained without appropriate voting strength, and at all. The Informer's honest conspiracy that the Republican leaders in this state waste too much effort even for the national convention instead of putting forth of berecum proportions to build up a strong and Texas—a party which will command the respect
The Houston Informer
IS "SOLID SOUTH" STILL "SOLID?"
In withdrawing from the race for presidential nomination by the Democratic party, Senator Thomas J. Walsh, Montana, has given quite an impetus to the formidable candidacy of Governor Alfred E. Smith of New York; the senator vining out a statement that it is apparent to the county. That the Democrats of the nation prefer Al Smith as their nominee. In writing to the senator, issued by the Gotham governor and outdistanced the entire Democrat's field in California, the home of William Gibbs McAdoo, whose remaining in the race for presidential nomination by the Democrat in 1924 against Governor Smith, prevented the New York chief executive from landing the coveted goal, and who was backing Senator Walsh in the California presidential preferential primaries.
It seems that Senator Walsh's name was entered in California by the McAdoo forces, but the Smith forces rolled up such a tremendous vote for the popular Empire State governor that Walsh and McAdoo got together and issued the celebrated post-mortem petition to the governor, which affirmed that Smith is the choice of the majority of Democrats for the presidential nomination.
With state after state instructing its delegates for Al Smith and with an assurance that Smith will enter the Houston convention far in the lead of any other aspirant or "favorite son," will the "solid South" remain "solid" and to try to defeat the nomination of the strongest man the donkey party can select as its standard-bearer?
Moreover, if Governor Smith is nominated by the Democrats in June, will the "saint-Similius of Dixie desert the party and support the Republican candidate," and then the religious rancor, bigotry and intolerance and back Nominee A Smith in the November presidential sweeps?
It is a serious indictment against a section of the country, which has been loyal to a party since its inception, to have an unwritten law that no man residing in said section has been or ever will be nominated by the party for the highest office within the American electorate. If the South is not traditionally "set" in its ways, politically and otherwise—it would have a real voice in the nomination of the presidential candidates of the Democratic party; but since the national Democratic leaders know that the "solid South" is always "solid" (whatever that term designates and denotes), they simply manipulate the South as a political tool and partisan doormat, to be used at the chest of party leaders, whether the South is willing or unwilling to the transaction. In other words, in the Eastern and Western Democratic parties mind that Al Smith is the logical man for the presidential nomination, the South will be cailed and given a soporific political portion and lulled into its quadrennial slumber, only to awake later and discover that its solitude, instead of being a healthy asset, is in reality a serious liability, which has led the South to wellnigh political bankruptcy—at least from a national aspect. It is mainly amusing to see some of the anti-Smith Democrats of Democratic politics "dry" question and long on imbibing the "wet" stuff, yelling themselves hoarse about Smith being "all wet" and "too wet."
The Democratic leaders deal with the "solid South" in a similar manner, nominating the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of their choice without consulting the "solid South," and then putting their candidates on the official ballot for the election. They approve; for the Democratic party, they approve; for the Republican party, they only such nominees placed on said ballot—not in amanner sufficient to even jeopardize the "solid South" remaining "solid!" The Informer is not a supporter or adherent of Governor Alfred E. Smith of New York, but this paper is amused and ticked at the actions and anties of the "solid South," which is now try-manufactured under the defeat Smith's nomination under the guise of a ministered endorsement to the Houston convention, and other ruses and subterfuges. Even the bringing of the national convention to "Heavenly Houston" was another political stroke on the part of Democratic leaders of the North and East, who thought it good sop to the "solid South," and, recognizing the South for its solidness, to nominate a presidential candidate from some other state such candidate down the political throat of Dixie Democrats!
Despite the anti-Smith sentiment supposed to be so prevalent in some of the Southern states, Texas not excluded, if the New York governor is nominated at the June parley, the Informer yokes the assertion that the "solid South" will still be found in November, and voting blindly, as in previous years, for the sole Democratic presidential nominee, "the solid one" in
