SILVER JUBILEE CELEBRATION FOR BANK IS PLANNED
Nashville, Tenn.—(Special)—Completed plans for the celebration of its twenty-five years of banking success were announced this week by the Citizens Savings Bank and Trust Company, the oldest Nassau bank in the United States. This bank begin its operation as a bank January 16, 1904, and has been a continuous financial plant from that day until the present.
The stockholders, directors and officers of the bank have invited to appear on the program. The superintendent of the bank has been invited. The population of the city will be entertained with addresses, literarylections and demonstrations in the present-day banking affairs during the week.
The celebration of the celebration which will be January 30, will be given over to the religious forces. The committee of the advisory board, composed of the advisory board, composed of the ministers and pastor of every diocese's night, one night for the business and professional men. The president who is the son of one of the founders who served as president for eighteen J. C. Napler, the national registrar of the United States' Treasury, and the other officers plan to make this the big event the oldest Nassau bank in the United States that Nashville has witnessed.
California Voters Cast Heavy Ballot In Late Election
Los Angeles, Cal.—(ANP)-Pollers more votes than at any previous state are accredited with the state can seat one-third of the votes in the recent presidential election. Negroes have voted and many took advantage of the last minute registration and were all ready to enter the fray. The arguments marked the campaign carried on, principally by nightly neighborhood meetups for the municipal or state candidates. Although it looked at first as if the Negroes would dessert Hoye in his fight, they were less than one-third of the votes cast were for Smith.
With J. B. Bass, Assemblyman Bryan Patterson, and strong leaders on the Hoover side and the force of the hard-work policemen, Democratic headquarters, the battle was waged holy until the closing of the polls, almost 200,000 Negroes投.
Negroes throw their strength behind Johnson for U. S. senator because of the kindness of the candidate. Clyde elected state senator, received their support. The interest in the race for assemblyman John Patterson, when two other colored candidates in the 72nd district who entered the race against Dick and Stockwell, whites, when two other colored candidates in the 72nd district who eliminated in the primaries, Hubbard ran second to Stockwell who won with Dick's 50%. ToHubbard's 3,614, and Dick's 607.

cause they were non-residents of the county.
Law Ineffective
"And so it comes to pass that in that district, as in many others, the teachers have the opportunity, and that, too, in defiance of the law. The present laws seem to require that district officers to provide school facilities for Negro children. In this and other cases, one certain state funds forfeiture by non-compliance with the law. They require the amount forfeited in less than the amount required to support, a Negro institution. It was indeed depressing to see that group of children literally growing up in ignorance, but that they had hundreds, in fact, thousands in like situations. This instance of denial of training if it were not so typical.
Emphatic Injustice
"As if to make emphatic the injustice of the case, in an adjoining district a school has been upheld each time it has been accused of violating it. It is true that the lone white boy has as great a claim upon Missouri for the violation of white children in the state. It is also true that that group of Negro children has as great a claim upon Missouri for the violation of white children in the state. It is also true that the four-fifth-general assembly passed a bill (HB168) which was killed in committee to safeguard against such a situation. It is hoped that those Missourians who believe in racial and educational fairness will support the assembly will enact this, or a similar bill into law and thus guarantee equal educational opportunity to children regardless of race or habitat.
DUSKY RIVALS END ARGUMENT WITH BULLETS
Magnolia, Arkansas—(ANP) The church-goers of the College Hill district were thrown into a panic Sunday afternoon when two rivals turned the church ground into a duelling pit, and the tensions of a woman whose name was withheld by those in the know. The clerics, the officers, the lier and the arrest of Charles Crisp. Witnesses declared that the men had attended church services Sunday morning and outspoken conferences and neighborly chats which usually follow in the wake of the arrest. This time that they came together and decided to settle all differences. Outspoken outcry pointed out that the argument started when Collier warned Crisp "to let my girl alone." Then came the dispute as to whether the man was both the lier and Collier fell mortally wounded. Crisp was arrested immediately after the killing and charged with murder. hundred dollars, recoverable before the police justice of the city of Richmond, the case may be, each day violation be and the name are hereby repealed. AMERICA'S GREATEST WEEKLY NEWSPAPER
HOOVER WINS!
[Name]
HERBERT HOOVER
The great question that confronted the American electorate was: Hoover or Smith?
On Tuesday, November 6, 1928, the American electors went to the polls, and expressed their preference for president of the United State for another four years.
Despite the result of the presidential election, the American people will continue to pursue the even tenor of their way, and do business at the same old stands.
Whether it is publishing a newspaper, printing all types of jobs from a calling card to an encyclopaedia, the result of the election will not interfere with our business; and we shall be pleased to serve your printing needs in the most modern and best equipped plant of its kind owned and operated by the race in the entire Southwest.
People judge a professional man or woman, or business concern largely by the class of his or its stationery and printing, and all down-to-the-minute professional and business people realize the value of good printing—PUBLICITY.
Aside from our physical equipment to do that job RIGHT for you, we are also contributing our "bit" in helping to solve the race's vexing economic problem by affording decent and profitable employment to several members of the Negro race.
In proportion as you patronize and support our printing enterprise, in a like ratio will you assist and enable us to employ more members of the race in various capacities.
When in need of printing of any kind, remember that we are as near you as your telephone, and we shall be delighted to have one of our representatives call upon you and help you solve your PRINTING and PUBLICITY needs.

As the Negro Comes From the Polls!
By KELLY MILLER, Howard University, Washington, D. C.
THE HOUSTON INFORMER, SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 24, 1928
I. That the Negro did actually divide his vote between the contesting parties on both sides will claim that by virtue of course partisan advocates on both sides will claim that by virtue of their controlling influence the vast majority of voters in their direction and dictation. The politician must magnify his job in the control of his control. But discounting the ward is always measured in the terms of the number of votes claimed to be under his control. But discounting facts clearly vindicate my pre-condition for a divided electorate. I have pressed by the Negro press and other agencies of public opinion, which in the case of the great cities in which the Negro chiefly resides voted for Governor Smith. Messrs. Rashob and Workman have resisted the vote as substantial as permission of persuasion. A straw vote of 161 students in the district of 520 and the other candidates 671 votes. Protest and inertia were weighted in the balance, and found
III. Mr. Hoover's drastic policy of eliminating the Negro in order to appease a successful political stroke. I predicted in my open letter that he would vote for the black-white votes in the South as a way for crucifying the Negro's ambition. The Republicans have not only supported the Negro's ambition, but have shattered it into fragment. Virginia, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas, and Arkansas are the Republican ranks. All of the border states have reaffirmed their allegiance by unprecedented majorities. Mr. Hoover did not actually carry, give a strong minority vote which promises better luck in the future. Though the black-white flattering, the Negro does not blame Mr. Hoover for his strategy as such, he does not blame the method of his surprizing.
The Negro exercises the full right of franchise in Maryland, West Virginia because the Republicans of those states love him better than the Democrat, but because both parties find it necessary to succeed. This election has accomplished two notable results—it has split the "solid South" and it has split the "doubled South" and the amendment has been effectively eliminated from the Republican agenda as such, nevertheless the Negro will gain control of the Senate by direct action. The Republican party is entitled to no conscious credit for the shift in things will bring to the Negro. It is but the incidental outcome of a larger policy. Jules Isaac-King is kind by playing his appointed part in consumption of the wondrous plan of salvation. But mucking will never harm him the credit for that beaction.
Those who protested against the incarceration of the two men, whose reserved control may be divided into two parts—those who, like myself, refuse to be incarcerated, and those who openly revolved to the army. Although not has been in vain. Metal police patrols are not affected by political pressure, and are almost at the disposal of the police.

The book contains a list of domestic commerce publications that are available to the public, and holds considerable more detailed information upon the particular subject matter. The Department of Commerce offices with the same name are also available since so many of our merchants are unaware that there is a government department that helps solve the problems that beset business. This book which is one of the most helpful things ever presented to the American business community, and its capable organization, was one of the department documents to go out under the signature of Herbert Hoover,

HE "KID" for some time had been trying to break into the "gang." He wasn't a bad kid as kids go, and I, for one, was willing to take him on. "Red" Jackson (called so because he was as nearly coal black as a human could be), and Johnson the Swede, were also willing, but Jack ("Gentleman Jack"), Harry Whiting and "Tom Thumb" vetoed the proposition.
Nix on the kindergarten stuff, they would say, and tell the "Kid" to chase on up to "Dusty's" and try and beat the rummy game.
Charley, the Kid's brother, was the leader of our cosmopolitan outfit.
Charley, "Red" Jackson, and myself (Doc Jenkins) were black.
"Gentleman Jack" was white, and from Virginia.
Harry Whiting was a little Cockney Englishman, and Tom Thumb, whose real name wasn't Thumb at all, but something like Casey or O'Connor, was an Irishman with a brogue as thick as a Puget Sound fog.
Week Ending November 24, 1928
By "DOC" MENKINS
Charley wouldn't vote either way about the Kid.
The "Kid" was his brother he said, and he wouldn't force him on the gang.
If the gang wanted him all right, let the gang decide.
So there we were locked three and three until the "Bertha" docked at Smith's cove.
The Kid brought the news about the stuff on the "Bertha."
We were all at "Dusty's," the joint where most of the stevedores and longshoremen of the Seattle waterfront used to hang out in those days.
"Red" Jackson and Tom Thumb were playing "Rummy" and the rest of us were watching—we were getting a big kick out of the way "Red" would "fall out" (win) every other pot as Tom slipped him the "Spreads."
Charley and the Kid spoke Spanish.
They looked like Mexicans anyway.
I think they were from San Antonio or some town in Texas, and were probably mixed with "Mexicano" somewhere down the line; so when

the Kid came in and began Jabbering to Charlie in Spanish, we paid no particular attention.
But Charley called "Gentleman Jack," Harry and me over and explained to us that the Kid had heard from a sailor on the "Bertha" that the purser had ten cases of "Sam Clay" he would sell for sixty dollars a case.
The news was rather interesting for we had been idle three weeks; and too, we had struck a snag on our last job when Johnson the Swede, Tom Thumb and myself, each packing a gunny sack filled with a case of "bonded," had run right into the arms of four uniformed cops.
We blamed Harry Whiting, who got to tinkering with that buzz wagon of his and let the cops get by without warning us when he was supposed to be looking out.
Anyhow the three hundred we lost was just the amount of profit we made from the three cases brought in by Charley, Red Jackson, and Gentle-

About BOOKS
BY GORDON B. SCHULTZ
This is a rather interesting story, the tale of one of the white miltions of the world, the wife of one of the white miltions. The mother, the sister of the mother, the grandmother, the book. The book, written with charm because it may give mighty beauty to its pages, gives more beauty to its pages. The expectant mother, the expectant father, the expectant sister, the expectant brother, all of these, lives here and there, and lives there. The book, the gallant from this book, is a second edition of the stale book, and I intended this book with great relief.
