The colored people of the city have the sympathy and the endorsement if the court decides to uphold their attack upon this new segregation ordinance, according to Walter A. A. C. THE HOUSTON INFORMER, SATURDAY, MARCH 9, 1929 The Economic Future of City Negro BY KELLY MILLER, Howard University, Washington, D. C. The cityward rush of the Negro nation has been a discussion since the beginning of the World War. Negroes in unreprecedented numbers have been rushed into the great cities with such volume and impressiveness to an crowd out all other cities. We have failed to give adequate attention to the far reaching effect that the Negro has had upon the Negro's comprehensive economic status. Our first attention was attracted to the question of housing this great hoard of newcomers to the past five or six years so much attention was now practically settled. The Negro warrior is domiciled in separate neighborhoods to meet the expanding needs of the growing population. The all the legal phase of the segregation issue which goes on at its normal pace has now arrived in the court of final resort, may still further be adjudicated in no-judicial character of the process. In a吵架, Bit should have forem him a survey of the field should know something of its imitation. The economy of the city as it is in the not overtone. Have our men the energy, initiative and the ability to uber, in a more ample move. SOLONS PRAISE NEGRO COLLEGE IN TENNESS Nashville, Tenn.—(ANP)—Gorner Henry Horton and the men of the 60th session of Tee general assembly were now visibly preparing to meet the expanding needs of the growing population. The all the legal phase of the segregation issue which goes on at its normal pace has now arrived in the court of final resort, may still further be adjudicated in no-judicial character of the process. During the last campaign our attention was on the responsibility of the city Negro by virtues of his segregated situation. Neighborhood adherency of the several cities and to the state legislatures, and in one instance to the congress of the United States. But the real economic significance of the Northern movement awaits cities the segregation movement has crucified its basic purpose, the real home and business of the city of Washington, for example, more homes and businesses have been attached to the Negro district than the race is at present able to house. The city may have taken over churches and temples have taken over homes of size and quality beyond what civil rule the city Negro may be able to house poor. He has fallen heir to the economic status of the higher economic status. His fine house is enlaid about 'his pock as a Roman citizen' and he will imitate the language of his ancient predecessor "Oh, wretched man that I came from the city of this dead land." The Negro almost never enters up with the biggest projects which yield wealth. The Negro has railways, development and railroad industry, development and railroad industry, has created thousands of fortunes, big and little, and twenty-five years. It is delightful what a new Negro has made much more than a living out of any phase of this astounding induction. A race or chase is wholly or all but wholly dependent upon daily power of service, hardly based on space with the advancing tide of eco-progress. And yet, the option young men with spirit and ambition should be encouraged to launch out of their meat. If indeed their outlook is not quite so good as that of the white man, the longer talent of opportunity in a napkin. But he should have been given a survey of the field and be prepared to explain it and limitation. The economic future of the country is not over romance. Have our young men the energy, initiative and enteresty to usher in a more auspicious future.
