With so many paints disregarding the highway traffic ordinance and the most strenuous drivers of automobiles to bring their cars to a complete stair at某处 designated stair intersection, the House of Representatives dispatches traffic offers to some of these intersections and surveys on peak hours. It is a practical practice for going north and north on such streets as Milwaukee throughfare, to dash with much speed across and over the "stown" of Grave Avenue; and many collions are barely avoided by the quick cars of the drive.

To this saintend lady have we remembered thanks for this kindly remember. We were remembered also during the ululetide season by Hawwood Smith, a teacher at the Houston-Sharvey report division and the Colleague-Taylor Guild Club — Mrs. P. O. Smith.
Brew Hawwood came by during the ululetide season, also a token for which we are grateful.

The latest to attract our attention each something like this: "The people in the country are too proud to go back to places where they were born." Here is much food for thought on the part of thousands of Negroes in the country, particularly the South. No race will ever amount to much and the other great races of the earth, that can be compared to how to learn an English too. Montgomery Layman Creates Big Sensation In Colored Methodism
Louisville, Ky.—(ANP)—For the first time in nearly fifty years, charges have been filed against a bishop of the African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. The last bishop against whom charges were filed in the Kentucky Conference was Bishop Hillier. The charges were filed on Monday charges were filed with Dr. C. Eubank Tucker of this city, pastor of Stoner Memorial Zion Church and editor of the Louisville Searchlight, against Bishop B. G. Shaw, bishop of the Sixth Episcopal District of the A. M. E. Zion Church. The complaints charge the bishop with tyranny, oppression, maladministration, corruption in office ad incompetence. They cover the charges of the bishop in the Sixth Episcopal Church in Alabama. The bishop has been summoned to meet the investigating committee which will assemble in Montgomery, Alabama, on Tuesday, January 14, at 1 p. m.
If the complaints are sustained the bishop will be remanded for trial before nine elders, but if the complaints do not make up a prima facie case, the case will be dismissed. Edenton, N. C.—(ANP)—Because the owners of the building refused to elect their colored tenant, a mob of white men wrecked the building and restaurant operated by Tom Holley. The building and restaurant were Bank and Hanky foretore had been used as a branch office of the Regentia. The place was rented to Holley and he opened up a cafe. Immediately upon the opening of the business Holley was notified by "unidentified parties" to move and move quickly. He disregarded the notice and told the landlord of the warning. The building was raided by the officials, stating that if the Negro was not evicted the building would be wrecked. The officials were on the verge of making a formal complaint to the police when they received word that the building had been badly damaged by a group of white men who raided the cafe Saturday morning. Officers are investigating the affair but little results are hoped for. Holley was the only Negro in the hamlet who operated any kind of business and it is believed that this had as much to do with the wrecking as the sentiment against a Negro occupying the building. The Negro's residence was located in the section known as Small's Crossing in which Negro and white farmers congregated largely on Saturdays.

Musicians Prevent Stampede of Crowd At Louisville Fire
Louisville, Ky.—(ANP)—The presence of mind of William Gibson and musician, musicians, musicians, prevented a stampede of many livers here at a Christmas party held in the Community Center, when a fire broke out.
The party was attended by hundreds of citizens, including Mary William H. Harrison. In the midst of the crowd, the agents pared on the agenda to take out of the group. The residents of Louisville sounded and insulted them, gawked that the flames were out and a stampede was in the way.
Sampling the fire, the musicians and staff rushed for the entire area.

But thanks to his, this haplah, condition does not exist in our environment. However, we still have a few impressions. After finishing a dental course from a reputable college (such curricula, and study) the individual must pass a board of dental examiners, in the course of which he is able to practice his profession. he be able to practice his profession in another state or state, he must pass the board of dental examiners an art or a science or profession. It is through these stages that dentistry now loses its name as a trade. The dentist goes further than the dentist, to teach tooth as some of us may sometimes think he is only capable of doing. He has gained through at least two of his studies in a scientific study while practicing his profession, he is readily able to find a employed or extracted
This information is needed by him to combat further occurrence of the condition or to trace the ill effect on the general health.
The dentist is supposed to instruct his patients in the proper care of the teeth and, in fact, to answer any
questions that might be asked by patients for the protection of the teeth (and all dentists will do as if the patient only asks). that the patient owes the dentist, and that is the proper observance of the instructions as given by the dentist. that the patient urges to remember that the dentist is human and subject to err as is human. NEGRO COMPANY
PAYS DIVIDENDS;
THOMAS AT HEAD
Mukegue, Oklaham—(ANP) The Simmons Royal Company, Inc., will celebrate its second anniversary by paying a cash dividend to stockholders. The fact that the company is in the process of dividing time favors it with two unique distinctions. It is the only corporation in the world managed and controlled by Negroes, which is organized for the benefit of the community. It is one of the very few concerns that has been able to declare a cash dividend out of profits on its common stock in a period of two years. The company was organized in September 1982, and its capital stock of $100,000 it did not, however, begin actual operation until January, 1982, since that time it has had a remarkable growth. It has at the present time outstanding, issued, and outstanding shares in the aggregate value of $20,150.
It has producing royalty income holdings in the Earlabroir fields of Seminole County, the Ather Pool of Lake County, the Field of Creek County, the Begg field of Olmquene County, and an interest in more than 700 acres of unproductive royalty in potential oil fields scattered throughout the state, which include the field of Olmquene more than $20,000. The gross earnings of the company for the fiscal year 1929, will exceed $10,000. It upon the basis of this sound state management of the company that a 10% cash dividend was paid. The Simmons Royale Company are men of unquestionable integrity, and business acumen, who only the confidence and trust of Thomas, the president, is a man of confidence in oil holding in Texas and Oklahoma, and McKinsey County. He has gained an enviable knowledge of investments and connections with oil royalty companies.
For the season to Dec. 8, 1928, South Texas shipped 1210 cars of oil to Texas, 1246 cars in 1929, it shipped 7,747 cars. Even wider difference was shown in the shipments for the respective weeks, with 246 cars in 28 against 267 in 20.
Linkin with more than $500,000 worth of building permits will set a new building record for itself this year.
Praises Informer Editorial Policy
Editor Houston Informer:
I take this method of commending your paper for its splendid editorials, during the year of 1920, and more especially the editorials for the world press, for the publication of the splendid triplicity of churches. I suspected your editorial to coincide with: "How can I give a song about, 'You can hab awl daw art,' but give me lengtle', while an old song all takes the world and gives us hell." The remedy I would suggest, for the maintenance and operating expense, is a merger or a consolidation of two churches, or a merger of membership formed in this manner the church could easily pay a pastor for giving the people instructive as well as constructive gospel for living as a church member.
As you have said, we have too many churches. I am saying we have the preschoolers, trying to lead the people on Sunday and mopping and begging and taking care of the banks during the weeks for funds. I think this practice is a disgrace to the profession of a minister who is not a member of the members who are above such practice and who are not in the profession and dignity of their profession. I have always admired your initiative, as some people can, but as many cannot, "gut" that so many of our journalists don't have. May you continue to the future as you have in the past.
With best wishes for health
and well-being, Mr. Kaiser,
cities for 1930, I bag to remain,
and I will be here for 1931.

Looking at the World From a Woman's Point of View
Nannie H. Burroughs
WHY PEOPLE GO TO THE DOGS INSTEAD OF TO CHURCH—
Negroes have invested more money in churches than they have in any other enterprise in the world.
When churches are used, properly, the people get more out of them than they do out of any other enterprise in the world.
The ministers are their only vultures group for whose salaries andNGovernment need to feel responsible. Up to the last decade the Negroto the church and the religious obligation he felt it his bounded duty to build churches. He felt it his bounded duty to build churches and return for the investment in property and their fidelity to the cause, the cause, the cause in churches that are shut up four-fifths of the year, run down, going down, and leaders are wasting time and money, fighting, masquerading, and bringing the people up and out of the mire and the clay and establishing their going-in-agreement, that is so evident in Negro government not supported in any other enterprises or profession. O, religion, religion, religion and awakened and wounded waste is in
No, don't put it on the sexton. If you should be able to do it, he should be afraid if he doesn't do it. He is not hired to keep the church points the trustees and stewards are aware of the trustees and stewards are aware of physical excellence. The officers and members are responsible for ensuring in every way possible but it is the minister's job to get results or get
Negro churches are not living up to the mission they have built, bought, and supported the churches. In return the church members have built, bought, and supported the church. In the week and hold them up on Sunday. "Feed my sheep" has come to them. The people for going to the dogs. There is nowhere else for millions of them have paid are locked up. Thousands of the churches have no proverb with something doing every minute in the day, three hundred and sixty-four could be them at the game if the children of light were wiser than the children of darkness. They could be them after the game. They stay to catch it. The churches get their game with the children of light to get ready to be the dogs for six days. Many church leaders take six days to get ready to be the dogs for six days. The dogs have a perennial performance—with variety. In this day they open up men to their jobs and keep their specific business going the lock up the churches and spend their time resting or engaging in worldly community locked up, run down, and looking lonesome. A run down church does not down, lazy layer. Mighty plain talk, but ye shall know the truth—even if it does hurt the guillot.
Getting as much as 40 a pound, *T. J. Barton, Bastrop County farmer*, sold $1,500 worth of pectas from his new orchard last year.

bloc or race that can not exercise the elective franchise right and register at the polls on election day, is both helpless and hopeless. Not only are most public officials elected at the polls, but practice all reforms, bond issues, charter changes and constitutional amendments are effected through the instrumentality of the ballot.

The average Negro business or professional man does not seem to be concerned much about the spiritual or temporal welfare of his church, and as a result of this indifference and tethering most of our local churches to the ministers, former ministers and few muscular weaklings.

Where much is known, much is required; and our business and professional men, particularly those who are members of our varuki churches, should manifest a little moral courage and con-
ference with the church toward the spiritual and material development of their churches.

The church should not serve merely as an institution for its immediate members, but it should serve the entire community as a beacon light, so shedding its ray that all who come within its radius will reap certain distinct benefits.
Prizes aggregating $1,000 will be awarded Negro composers in this contest, thus affording Negro musical composers a great opportunity for their creative genius in the field of music, and providing a contribution to the musical life of the race, nation and social fabric.
Arthur Free—"I am determined to hold out and to hold on."
Perry Howard—"Still singing in the rain."
Too many of us have the wrong conception about the church and its functions, apparently laboring under the impression that the church was instituted, primarily, as a place for the people to go on their happy and shout and forget all about their duty. We follow these.
SOME INFANTILE MORTALITY FACTS
Passing Parade
Passing Parade
According to a survey conducted in New York City by the Welfare Council, 128,000 babies are born in the American metropolis annually; with 7,200 of these babies dying before they are one year old, more than half this number (7,200) passing away within the first month of their lives, and about 40 per cent within the first week.
Our churches should be dynamic factors in the community, but where our efforts are divided, our churches too numerous and our preschools too ignorant to sense the real situation and map out and follow a definite and well-defined human-reclamation and soul-evalation program, then the church is falling short of its divine mission.
Have you learned how to write it

The survey further shows that for every 200 children born in New York City, one mother dies at childbirth.
Many of the faults and defects in any number of our local churches could be rectified or the condition considerably improved, if negro laymen would manifest more interest in the internal affairs of the church than of leaving the whole matter largely to the preachers and women.
Yet to safeguard the health and health of these babies and their mothers, public and private welfare agencies of New York City provide an army of 204 doctors, 129 nurses, 42 social workers and nurses, 200 teachers, 100 workers, doctors and nurses in training, clerks and investigators.
Neeley Allen, Wilson Street vegetable and fruit dealer, with his usual morning consignment of foodstuff for the Y. W. C. cafeteria.
By this, we do not mean to infer that laymen should try to dominate the situations in their several churches, but there are numerous pastors who are more than willing to confer with and respect the advice of upstanding and unselfish laymen; but in too many instances such succor is never available and, with their own efforts, they fail to commit serious blunders in connection with their church program.

There are 91 maternity clinics in the five boroughs of New York and 77 by other agencies, maintained by the municipal government and 77 by other agencies.
In many of our churches—even in some of our cities—the pastor must serve as spiritual advisor and then execute all the duties ordinarily falling upon the deacons, stewards, trustees, clerks, treasurers and any other lay officers.
With such an alarming infantile death rate, the fact is being brought home to America that society is yet remiss in its duty toward expectant mothers, with the result that thousands of babies are brought into the world without a chance at or in life.
Mrs. M. H. F. Howler of Pt. Worth

New Musicians, and Mrs. M. W. D.

It is a pathetic case to behold some pastor trying to serve as shepherd of a manless congregation—a church where all the male members either absent themselves from the services and take no part in the business administration of the church, or, by their silence, delegate all functions, spiritual, temporal and otherwise, to the minister.
This condition does not merely exist in New York City, but the infantile mortality rate is alarmingly high throughout the country; and, if Greater New York City, with all the health agencies and workers, loses over 7,000 infants each year, one can readily surmise what is happening along this line in cities and communities less advantaged than the American metropolis.

Many of the Negro laymen seem to become "too big" for active participation in church affairs as soon as they begin to get on their feet in business or the professions, while many of them "mituate" as soon as they laid a good-paying position.
- Ignorance and poverty are important factors in infantile and maternal mortality, and our municipal, state and national governments must see to it that better safeguards are taken to protect and prolong the lives of all American infants; for the perpetuity and welfare of this nation are dependent, in a large measure, upon the health of our infants.

The Informer wishes to reiterate what it has said on previous occasions: The Negro layman have it in their power to put a summary end to the splitting program of Negro preachers and the duplicating building program so prevalent among some of our religious denominations, if these laymen would become concerned local churches and insist upon a sensible and sane church program.

Indifference and apathy lead to decadence and its inevitable
spillary death.
Andrew J. Allison, Flak University alumni secretary, who is making contacts and pushing the cause of his alma mater.
If our local churches are losing their weight and influence in the community (and it is evident that such is the case); if they are falling down on their job job (and many agree that they are not doing their job well) and are not fulfilling various responsibilities), the preachers are not wholly blameable—despite all their faults and shortcomings, for Negro laymen have just about turned over the churches, "lock, stock and barrel," to white preachers, who are not sticking mass to run many of the local churches and even state and national religious organizations.
Under the able leadership of Mrs. M. H. Fowler of Fort Worth, founder and president of the Texas Association and originator of the summer school, the institution was begun with the idea of providing a comprehensive course deemed expedient to establish permanently such a school in Texas.

Some of the leading musicians of the race have served as members of the summer school faculty; while students from all sections of the state have attended the two former sessions held at the summer school, a much larger attendance should be recorded.
SHOULDERING CIVIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Homely Philosophy
By Georgia Douglas Johnson
Such an institution will mean much to Houston and South Texas, and The Informer, which is in hearty accord with the movement, suggests that both musical, business and professional leaders unite their froces and procure this school for our city during the forthcoming summer. It is going to mean work, but we are well prepared to do the job in fine style.
The man or race, that dodges civic responsibilities or seeks to "use of least resistance, will soon discover that those men should such responsibilities and bear their burdens in the political life of the nation," said the state and national governments.

In this connection, Houston stands a fine chance to land the 1930 meeting of the Texas Association of Negro Musicians, which will be held the first week in June, with the school beginning the
