Organic Church Union Favored BANK RUNNER'S WIT SAVES MONEY 5 PRICE CENTS VOL.XI Orga BANK THE MIRROR BY C. F. RICHARDSON FIRST-HAND INFORMATION ATLANTA LIFE MOULS NOTED JOURNALIST HERE KINCHON'S HOUSE-WARMING Recently the Inquiry received a year's subscription from a white Texan, who is very active in interracial activities in this state and the South. We have also received a former to receive subscriptions in the mail from members of both races, and we have received subscriptions in the country; but we mention this subscription because the Inquiry information has been preaching since the establishment of this commission in this state. Of all the white members on the Houston commission, they rarely ever read the Negro newspaper, and these members, them, and such issue usually contain some editorial or new material, and these white members call to these white commissioners' attention. On the other hand, every Negro commission not only reads, but subscribes for the white race keeps informed about the white race. Among the distinguished visitors in Houston at this time are I. H. Hayward, a professor of agencies and educational-publicity director, respectively for the Atlanta insurance Company, Atlanta, Georgia. Mr. Hayward has made several trips to Houston and Texas since his comeback in business in this state, but this is the first time Mr. Campfield has been in business in Houston, pleasingly surprised with the evidence he has seen of racial progress and advancement in this section of the city. During their stay in this city, these Atlanta Life moguls plan to project another section of the issue. They will help all Negro business in the community, details of which are announced in another section of the issue. They are by the late N. B. Hernand, one of the strongest women in the community, without regard to race. And the Informer hopes that Houstonians will join hands in the conduct locally by this company. Paying Houston mother one of his periodic visits, Floyd J. Mr. Calvin, a native of Arkansas, Missouri, and a Texas, who are always glad to have him pay them a visit and give them his articles, touching and covering many phases of Negro life in all sections of the country, and not just in inviting the circulation of the Courier, for he has a man who is in Tacile, pleasing and captivating. As usual, Mr. Calvin made ourancestors in "Heavenly Hounston," and we wish to assure him that he is always well-versed in the city, our sanctum and our homes. We are in receipt of an invitation from Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Kichon of Arkansas to house-raising of their palatial new home, Saturday, March 15, beginning THE HOUSTON INFORMER BROWN RESIGNS FROM NATIONAL BENEFIT STAFF J. P. RANSOM SPEAKS ABOUT TREND OF NEGRO BUSINESS In the two addresses delivered herri Tuesday and Wednesday nights, by Attorney F. B. According to his usual schedule, Dunneman, accompanied by a policeman, James Bennett, was making a delivery of cash to the bank, where he met the custom, when the taxicab containing the messenger and the patrolman drew up in front of the bank about 11:45, the patrolman got out of the cab to make sure no bandits were in the vicinity. Loftering on the sidewalk was a wailer under his arm. He was the only person in the path of the messenger. So he followed him. The commission would be more desired than a concession to the present policy of election and government of the militaries. The native warriors a government of the Haitians would face as the "for the people, by the people, and of the people" rather than the commission and the council of state. This attitude of the Haitians, expressed through their representatives, is the one of the commission who informed the spokesman that "we have no advice of the commission to President Howe. C. —(ANP) The report that Haitians themselves desired the commission appointed by the government in the republic, should be composed of white Americans and also requested a committee composed of Negroes, or Negroes and whites to represent the country, was confirmed here Friday by information gathered from high-mountain sources. This also indicates that it is the belief of the chief executive that the political commission now in Haiti, fair in its basic duty is to review the situation of the country, being carried out and devise the best means and time for the cessation of violence. On the other hand, the commission, in the pallet of Trauger Institute, and of the foremost educators in the country and his associates, will have a comprehensive and constructive approach to importance and require much time to develop the problem of this group to map out a comprehensive and constructive approach to needs of the people and enable them to advance educationally and economically. Dr. Moton was a caller at the White House and the State Department Friday, when he commissioned which he heads is entirely independent of the political commission and was given full charge of the arsenal of the State Department and program of investigation. We keep our lodge rooms, our lodge rooms, our lodge rooms, churches and dance halls. Negroes are burying too much money to populate towns, many funerals, many church funerals. Usually these fights are between the titular head and secretarial officer of the organization, and, from our close observation of the primary causes, we have reached the conclusion that most often it is due to divergent views held by these two officers. Quite frequently the head of the order not only endeavors to carry out the executive functions of his office, but he even attempts to run the office of the secretary, and, failing in this, this grand mogul will then seek to undo, discredit or oust the secretary of the fraternity. No business can operate successfully, whether small or large, where the leaders are constantly at loggerheads; and to "air" such differences and disagreements in the public or fraternal press tends to widen rather than heal the breach between such leaders. According to the constitution and by-laws of most, if not all Negro secret orders doing business in Texas, all grand lodge officers are chosen by the vote of the grand body, and thus all of them are responsible to the body which elects and retains them in office. The grand secretary is not responsible to the grand master, and whereas the grand master is not responsible to the grand secretary; but on the contrary both of them are directly responsible to the members of the order whose servants they are. It seems that some of the titular heads of these orders reach the conclusion rather hastily that the organization is their private property, and just as soon as some other officer does something or says something, or is accused of doing or saying something which does not meet the sanction of the titular head, the fight is on and the order can go to the demission bowwows. Every fraternal order doing business in Texas should pass a law requiring its executive and secretarial office in a same town to offer the office a contact, so that a cleaner can be hired and a better understanding obtained, resulting in a finer spirit of cooperation. Occasionally this rift is the result of jealousy and envy, and in some instances the secretarial officers have been too officious, some times bordering on discreet to the head of the order. No man can become too big in any order or organization, for the more big (in all that the term denotes and implies) men an order or organization possesses, the bigger it will become and the higher the place it will hold in the estimation of the people. Instead of trying to cripple each other's influence and clip their wings, our fraternal leaders should ever strive for harmony and team-work, and when they reach the stage in their official capacities where they can not work for the best interests of the organization, the order should choose a new staff of officers. Any cause, concern or corporation will experience difficulty alding where there is constant friction in dealing heads, and when there is constant friction in dealing heads, together for their own welfare and are advancing the pigskin toward the goal, the Negro race (team) is still in a huddle and fussing about who will carry the ball and be acclaimed the hero of the contest. $13,770,000 FOR BOND ISSUES Saturday, March 22, there will be a three-in-one or joint bond election held in this city, county and navigation district, when the voters of the respective districts will be called upon to approve or disapprove propositions calling for the issuance of $13,777,000 for bonds for public improvements. For municipal improvements the voters will decide the fate of $5,650,000 bond issues; for navigation district, $2,922,000, while the county is submitting $5,197,000 for roads and hospital. All qualified voters residing in the city of Houston are eligible to vote on all three propositions, which will also be subdivided on the official ballot; while all electors residing in Harris County and the navigation district will be eligible to vote on the bond issues affecting the county and port district. Colored voters should study these issues carefully and then cast their vote for the best interests of the city, county and navigation district. This has been made to organize the Negro voters, who are usually indifferent and apathetic when such bonds are submitted to the electorate, despite their importance to all citizens of the city and community. Some weeks ago The Informer advised our people to organize their forces and appoint a representative committee to confer with the city officials and ascertain what consideration will be given Negro residential sections in the event the municipal bonds carry at the polls next Saturday; but the municipal委员会 have failed to act and if the issues carry, colored Houstonians have no assurance that one penny will be spent in sections of the city inhabited by them. As integral parts of this growing municipality, Negroes should be as interested in the city's welfare, expansion and development as any other racial group in our population; and when we begin to evince more than passing interest in such vital matters we are going to get more consideration and recognition. Constituting the balance of power in such elections, the Negroes have been the most influential influence if they were responsible to advice and would organize their forces behind some public-spirited leader or leaders who possess vision and stamina, and who have the courage of their convictions. Our indifferent and lethargic attitude not only is calculated to retard the race's progress, but tends to impede the community in its program of enlargement and improvement. While it is too late to perfect an organization now and do any effective work, either for or against these bond issues totaling $13,770,000, the colored voters of the city, county and navigation district can obtain some additional information concerning the propositions and go to the ballot box to vote in all public-spirited and civic-minded citizens should. Whether you are for or against the bond issues, in part or in whole, you should not fall to vote; for every ballot cast plays its part to determine both the destiny of these issues and future growth and development of this community at large. Mrs. Brady stated to a staff member of the The Informer that the old business, and that it will not be long now before she returns to help realize the wonderful business, possibilities of GIRL RESERVES IN ANNUAL MEETING Prevention Rather Than Cure We oftimes have a mistaken idea in our minds that the dentist or physician is only to cure or correct an ill or a diseased condition. This idea possibly comes about by the public awareness of the importance of enduring disease is only incidental to the more important problem of conservation of good health, and this is done not only in combating the ravages of human aliments; but in the elimination of the causes or sources. Hence the need for a general general health, forgetting the fact that the teeth have a great and important health of the child. When and how to care for them the child would entail a long chapter it would be worth reading, but for the benefit of this subject we take the school child's teeth. The school child's teeth should be kept in a healthy condition. Poor or diseased teeth are a principal factor in retardation of growth. We oftimes find a school child we oftimes find a school child that is mentally handicapped due to a diseased tooth or unhealthy health. We have a large number of examples when children have been uninjured because reasoning be traced directly to a condition of the brain. In these conditions have been corrected and the child has progressed to school, medical or complete loss of eye sight, too, oftimes is traced directly to a diseased tooth. In the country, a large number of crimes are committed by children who have been caused wholly by a disease condition of the teeth or oral caval The infected, unerupted or impacted tooth that is so often found presses against the gum above stated is often overlooked by the parents. (Here again we see the importance of initial examination twice a year.) The subject of prevention rather than cure can be easier to engage and intelligent parents working together with the physicians and dentists. For prevention will be easier. Then we should see that the prospective mother's diet is proper. (We will need a diet for building of healthy teeth.) In this enlightened age more emphasis is or should be placed on the mouth and teeth. The mouth and teeth enter the building of teeth. This is important so that the care of teeth is possible. In this it would be left entirely with the kind of diet used by the mother during the period of growth. The care of teeth (both temporary and permanent) should be followed out according to the instructions of your dentist.
