RECEPTION AT BISHOP
WILEY SPIRIT MANIFEST
The Colleague-Novier Choral Club of which this collumist is a member, left Houston last Friday morning, met with the members of the commodious business of the Houston Electric Company, with H. A. HIRK, fleeing the city, with this choral organization, but he is such a careful, cautious and courteous man as his official bus operator whenever one of the Houston Electric Company is employed on any future trip.
Aside from the members of the choral club, the choral members of Messiah M. H. Montgomery, James L. Mitchell and little daughter, James L. Mitchell, and little daughter, Richardson; Messiah M. L. Murrell, Haywood Smith, John W. Hubert, and the purpose of this brief tour was to give musical concerts at Bishop and Willey nights, and it was a jolly and jornal party that left Houston; for it meant a collegiate home-coming event for the members of the organization, fire of them being Wiley products and two halls from Wiley
As Houstonians are fond of eating and are known far and near as apiculture, but not was many miles out of Houston before the eating program began. The students were not one of the singers, launched her eating offensive before the bus reach, and consumed considerable fruit and food on tour.
We were some eating bunch, with Prof. Terrell carried off first honors, and Mrs. Richardson and the veteran educator a close friend.
Apparently, the party ate so much that the weight of the bus was so insecure that the canshes out before reach and the bus shall three more flats were encountered. course, the food and its resultant blow did not cause all these blow-outs and flats, for it was later made sure from being considerably wore, were over-inflated; yet we had a rest and prepare for the Friday night program at Bishop College.
President Joseph J. Rhodes of Bishopsville, rooming welcome when the campus was reached and Friday night and afternoon were spent with the Bishopsville
While the audience at Bishop did night, what it labelled also made up in enthusiasm.
This was this columnist's first visit to the building at the school, and he became head of the school, and we were pleased to see both the physical appearance of the buildings and grounds and spirit and morale of the student population. The building used by all preceding presidents at the executive mansion was also the building used by this department under one roof, thus placing this department under one roof, shown through this department by our own Miss Ernestine Jessie Covington, Houghton's own Miss Emma at Bishop and who is very enthusiastic over her work.
The night night reception was held in the hall hall, where the singers were afforded an opportunity to meet the students of Marshall, among the visitors being one of the teachers of Texarkana and his spouse; and Mrs H. S. Davs, and daughter Davs are the parents of our popular teachers of Texarkana and his spouse; Refreshments were served also after which the Houston party was tendered to the receptable meal in the building.
This columnist and his wife, along with Mr. and Mrs. Janne K. Bishiel with Mr. and Mrs. Bishiel of President and Mrs. Rhode white at Bishop, where we were shown evanloving; while other members of the party were placed in the dormitories of the University, Mrs. A. WEALTH AWAITS BLACK FARMERS IN CALIFORNIA
Los Angeles, Cal.—(ANP)-With support for Negroes with a little capital, it is frequently wondered why more agriculture for Negroes has to wait to take up agriculture. For example, opportunities exist in the county to ultimately hundreds of thousands of persons of other races who will locate in Negroes' towns today only a few thousand people. We offer a real opportunity to the Negro in his struggle for economic freedom. Fertile, thabas can be provided to any amount of from one to a thousand water is plentiful. Dairying, horticulture, tithabas can be constitute the chief source of income. The orange crop is valued at more than over $155,000 and with these facts we find the Negro crowding into coniferous forests is migrating to the West and locating in the mountains and soil, making good while the Negro sleeps on. We have caught the vision and have taken hold. The Odd Pellows home located here, some 40 miles to be had. This farm has a wagon and milk cows to be found anywhere.

RELEASE NEGRO AFTER SERVING LENGTHY TERM
Columbia, S. C. —(AMP)—Gryd Watson, who gained fame fourteen years ago when he was sentenced to 18 years for killing the "wrong man," has been paroled by the governor upon the release of the "wrong man," his dons and the citizens of Anderson County. S. C. —(AMP)—Gryd Watson, which attracted attention fourteen years ago, had its beginning when Watson out to avenge himself after a shot through the window of his friend's home and killed another man William Harper, had been trained by Watson to his home. Watson waited for the arrival of the window which he thought was Harper. He fired and the supposedly dead man was yet alive but a friend of the sequent investigation revealed that Harper was yet alive but a friend of Watson was tried and sentenced to his imprisonment. For fourteen years Watson was tried and sentenced on the part of other prisoners to escape, and on several occasions thwarted efforts on the part of other prisoners to escape, Georgia, to assist in the arrest of prisoners there. His record on and on his pardon was well merited.

Both colored families are refusing to move unless they are assured equal access to their residential sections just as desirable. Chicago, Ill.—(ANP)—Ten days after the mysterious and shocking murder of E. D. Pierison, auditor for the National Baptist Convention, whose body was found hanging from a tree on the banks of the Muscatuck River in Indiana, police and private investigators were still at a loss to name those persons responsible for shooting Pierison to death, although there were developments in the investigation which led to conjecture regarding the activity of many persons.

Himself "julian D. Rainey," he sang in a deep bass, and watched the effect upon him, and he added impressively: Julian D. Schuler came to Die Menies with a large contingent of troops from the army, who were training the cadets from civilian life. He was a man of great cooky and smart clever. At the time, he was brilliant enough to be a rookie in those subjects too abstruse for the average regular army man. I did not like him particularly then, but I was not a rookie, I think it was because of his adolescent experience. After the war, I heard of him again, now one of the editors of the Messenger, and I found that he had replaced a rookie pounded out of him by ruthless experience, and that which had replaced him was to his fellowed humor and the keen

Fact Finders Present Data At Durham's Recent Meet
Durham, N. C.—(ANP)—Having economic life of the U.S. in the past, the National League and offered numerous prescriptions and offered numerous prescriptions and third Fact-Finding Conference ended last Friday what its leaders declare. Although the attendance was not as large as in previous years, the session was attended by out officers, by the exceptional preparation made by those who prepares the league, as well as the matured discussion, the analytical comment and the correct wording which the body went about its work. "Those in attendance were preformed this year," and President James E. Shepard. "We got closer to funders than ever before." He announced that the executive committee had decided to recess the conference for two or three weeks, and that findings are to be presented to various national organizations, such as the National Urban League, the National Baseball League, and existing bodies for inclusion in their "A complete report of the year" deliberations will be immediately prepared for prescriptions or individuals requesting it. "A G. Spandling of the executive committee."
The conference faced frankly the problems of labor and the unemployment in the country in passing but which have affected the Negro worker particularly in the situations which Negro finds before it. We have brief discussions and through the medium of addresses by economic expertise, the fact finders struggled to develop a picture which would be useful for whatever disadvantages exist might present the planks for a platform on which sound remedial strategies could be developed.
For the first time the color line was erased and white speakers mined in the economic aspect of the intermental agencies at Washington interest in the economic aspect of the domestic commerce division of the Department of Commerce and W. Alexander of the National Interracial Commission likewise were Dr. W. E. B. DoBell, principal Dr. W. H. Holtzel, principal bon L. "Negroes are looting out in many of the cities," he said, formerly by the oppressors simply cause they have not kept up with the changes in the city. Upon them, again, we are not creating opportunities, for ourselves in small commercial dealings with our neighbors, Jewish, Greek and Italian friends in the city, in schools and universities.
"Certainly banks have a place in solution of our economic problem, and we must be true that our race lacks capital and credit. It would seem judging from the progress of Negro banks that it takes us almost as long to find a bank as it takes us to find a star. The training acquires formally acquaintance or, might say, an exposure to the real training that must be acquired through experience. The training is in Negro banks, with perhaps no influence in the Dumbo National in New York." The Negro-owned banks now in ex-merged states are better prepared to do business than they once said, "experience is a dear teacher, butooks can learn no other way." Slavery is not the problem, are not the cause, are not the problem as human beings. Whitness and the blackness are not the cause, are not the problem to emancipate the Negro from poverty, housing congestion, poor food, disease and premature death from privation
"It ought to be oblivious to any unintended impact it is impossible for the Negro to build up any group economy on capitalistic lines in this country, that would be out of the mire of poverty. After the war, we made out of the mire of poverty. After capitalism in this country we have only four million individuals, out of which 200 million live on $200 while the United States Department of Labor assures us that the average income of the American standard of living on $200." Apology Withdrawn
On hearing that some of the Bishop students had been held up by the police, I have done for the last 22 years in looking after many troubles arising among the students of Bishop College in the school. I visited the school in the school's defense. I phoned the sheriff, as I have done in many other cases, and the students had given the law any troubles. The sheriff replied that nothing of importance would be to inquire of the chief of police and see if anything had gone wrong. The police would be adjusted. On our investigation the clerk informed me that if any of our students were there. I and I might look them over to see if any of our students were there. I met at Bishop my investigation was concluded. Just about this time a police officer up and asked a doctor to see what was

Chicago, Ill.—(ANP) A—significant departure in industrial relations was marked Tuesday evening when the Chicago Urban League in thepromotion opportunity, entertained 100 of its employees of the chain store system at a banquet in the National Python Office. The officials who served as hosts at A. B. Wilson, a representative from Chicago, superintendent of operations at the Atlantic and Pacific system; R. L. The Atlantic and Pacific Tea Stores was the first great chain company to color the young people as clerks in their colored young people in their warehouses. The banquet Tuesday night there are represented the desire to be successful and to indicate that the experiment might be symbolic of the gro is to occupy in the commercial world. Such a viewpoint was presented by a speech of the evening. He praised
there was no 'jugging' whatever. Not sure if the board got a dollar out of the "purpose of this loan" (1) we needed the money to centralize our obligations to the fragmented field from the board, paying for the equipment and furnishing it, and extension of our educational work, to satisfy our creditors who had long strung out accounts necessitated by notes paid on building, etc. and the long strung out accounts line of credit for the Sunday School Public Board. with striking clarity adjustments which the Negro had been forced to make in the industrial life of the nation. "As a slave in the South," explained the Opportunity editor, "the Negro was largely excluded largely to the exclusion of the so-called poor white. But during the绞刑 period growth between the freedmen and the poor whiteness for the jobs which they had been held in, the rivalry has continued almost until the present day and caused the Negro to be certain low and mental types of work were given him. The advent of the machine and of other labor saving devices has done away with thousands of them and those unemployed whites are seeking the jobs which were supposed to be few. Negro jobs and the economic salvation of the Negro in the new industrial fields and a win on place on merit alone. The work united harm to Negro youth. It sapped him of his initiative and he took the job prepared himself for anything better.

Black-eyed peas an a commercial crop are coming into their own. For the first time ever Anderson County farmers are commercial buyers for black-eyed peas in the crop, while Henderson, which largely pioneered the way in the industry, is now larger acreage than last year. A Henderson county grower evolved from a small farm in the mid-19th century to a seriously handicapped effort at growing black-eyed peas.
LACKS AIDING IN CENSUS WORK ON LARGE SCALE
Washington, D. C.—(ANP)—Dumbam's official report for 1930 on the number of his Negro citizens and their condition will be awarded with his name in the annals because of the more general interest which the Negro has taken in the grand enumeration and his feeling that a more liberal attitude at the time of the war will destroy the effect of concerns about the Negro permit-ment.
Although there have always been a new Negro enumerator in the army, the government most employs, the federal government never before counterenanced a large number of the activities of using the Negro to obtain the facts and figures about himself. Here and there a Negro man or woman has been forced to get on. The government has to be such an intricate operation on the scale that the director of the census has become convinced of the necessity of an agency that will insure greater accuracy and more complete figures. The enumerator, among people, is often haunted has taken decade to obtain all the truth and to overcome obstacles which have prevented him.
The social condition among Negroes in the South where most of them live is one of despair, and indeed that there might be great room for improvement in the method of object-oriented programming in Negroes living in out-of-the-way places might be overlooked, or that, in the case of plantation societies, the owner to answer for all his "hands." Further, writing up many fair-dressed Negroes as white was recognized. Director William Siemens of the Bureau of the Census approved a plan thereby the office refused to accept. Supervisors throughout the country were permitted to avail themselves of whatever might give them toward creating greater cooperation with the census. They might give them toward creating the advisability of using Negro enumerators. The result of this program, more Negroes took an active part in the enumeration this year than at any other census period, activity was larger.
Not only in the larger cities of the North, we have acquired congestion in the Negro areas, but in all the states of the South, superiors generally have acted on an active basis to be given them by influential Negroes in various communities and to be given them that might be done without undue friction. Of the strange obstacles against the employment of Negro educators who reared itself in the south was the absence of segregated superiors. Superiors generally were not familiar with the application of Negroes to do the work among Negroes, but were fearful that in the South whites would recent the work of Negro educators in their homes. The big job in such cases was to find an agreeable territory to work in. Superiors went out of their home in Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and one supervisor urged Negro friends to take the examination so that he might be in a position to apply.
Mississippi, North and South Carolina, Florida, Virginia and Arkansas, and Louisiana. Scalp Jones, prominent lawyer, mailed a printed circular to the commissioners regarding the appointment of emergers in the census bureau. Pine Biff was one of the cities in which several Arkansas senators, John Hope, wife of the presiding emerger, prescribed apidistice services in awakening Negroes to a sense of their census responsibilities by organizing a census enumerator Negroes and delivered it to the president. It was partly the good effect of her work which caused the Georgia Democrat to be enumerated. The supervisor of the Atlanta district cooperated in every

GOLDEN TEXT—THE BON, son
to minister, and to give his life a
ranch, to and to minister.
PRIMARY TOPIC—How to Become Great
JUNIOR TOPIC—How to Become Great
INTERMEDIATE AND NERMOR TOPIC-IGREATNESS Through Day-DeadING YOUNG PEOPLE AND ADULT TOPIC-ICIH's Standard of Greatness.
1. The King Fortress His Death and Resurrection (vv. 17-19).
2. The King On his way to Jerusalem in His last journey to the beloved city. He took the twelve disciples aside from the traveling pilgrims to make known unto them what was before them. As they journeyed, he was taken by the Lord and thus shown by the Lord amassed the disciples who were following in fear (Mark 10:32).
3. Betrayal and death foretold (vv. 15-18).
He went forward, fully conscious of the avil tragedy of the cross. He for the third time stained the cross with his approaching sufferings and death. But they are so filled with their ambitions and scribes, the unjust judgment, the deceived and the scourging, the crown of thorns, the cross, the hanging between two malefactors, the nails, the spar—all of which he had not touched! There he knew all this, He pressed on, not of necessity, but deceived the victory which would be accomplished by the shedding of His blood Him forward. He went courageously for the accomplishment of His Father's will. **$^2$** The resurrection foretold (v. 19). **$^3$** The resurrection picture had the resurrection not been made known. The resurrection life beyond is always seen as the issue of the cross. **$^4$** The life beyond this "vale of tears" should incuse us to press on. Christ is the grand example (Heb. 12, 2). The request of James and John (vv. 20–23).
This request was made by their mother. The request was for a place of prominence in the kingdom, for their parents, for their boys, but they should know that Ita's pinnacles are exceedingly high, and they should get places for their children near to Jesus, the bain of ambition of the world should not occupy their
2. Jesus' answer (vy. 22, 23).
He spoke directly to the man, not to his mother, declaring that they would be saved from the show them that the way to this position of glory was through sufferers, and that they were of great agony. The way to the places of glory in the kingdom of love and herdge-gathering services.
III. How to Be Truly Excaled (v. 24, 28)
His disciples (v. 24).
When the ten heard of the request of James and John, they were filled with indignation with them. Their suffering was but the same that they were free from the same selfish spirit, but that these two had been great enemies. 2 Greatness among the heathen (v. 24).
10. Scale of the world has always been by the strong hand. The standards have not been moral excellence, but worth, station, and power.
11. Greatness among Christ's disciples (v. 24).
The standard here is in sharp contrast. The way to the place of prominence in Christ's kingdom is the way to be treated, not the way to thane to receive. To be serving one is much better than to be served. There will be degrees of rank in Christ's kingdom, not character, not position, or authority. The spirit of Christ substitutes "the greatness of love for the love of Christ" and "4 Christ is the supreme example of greatness (v. 28). All who will be great should study initiate Christ. Let them forget the greatness, even to the giving of their lives.
Courage. Unspotted Life.
Then said Mr. Holy-man, there are two things that they need to have posession who go on pilgrimage; courage not courage, but courage not courage, they can never hold on their way; and if their lives be lice, of a pilgrim stik; — John Bunyan.
Being Satisfied
To be satisfied with what you have, but never with what you are, means growth and joy—*going w/glee*. Port Arthur is making big preparations for the East Texas Chamber of Commerce and prospects are for a record crowd. Marshall is starting on a million-dollar improvement program for 1800 with the new $380,000 Hotel Marshall and the new $400,000 field staving project starting. . . A field was closed recently when the Moody's-Segregus interests acquired the field from the Allied Gas Co.

our form telegram was read there, and we greeted him with a smiling trick — a pretense to exceptional broad-minded "I suggest that we should not condemn Judge Parker until we give him a chance to be heard from by him and his church, and that if the judge were ever heard from it would be afterward already voiced on the question of confirming him. He knew, or should have known, that Judge, or should have known, that he answered questions by the colored people.
But Carter also knew that his prophetism failed and appealed to the hearts of some of the less informed and more innocent members of the community. So Judge he was resorting to the old trick of defeat through delay.
And the horse sense of the average member of the church con-

I was in Los Angeles in April, and we were all fighting like "heck" to defeat Judge Parker's confirmation as associate justice of the supreme court of the Los Angeles branch of the N. Y. In one white woman of Los Angeles, I saw even white women, born and reared in the colored women against the confirmation of Parker, and put money on the table to send telegrams that
But while all this was going on, there was still in existence one William B. Carter who pointed and paid by "white" Baptists to "lead" the colored brethren and aisles to superimposed leadership in always, as superimposed any people anywhere, but often the people voted and faithful to the interests of their own people in spite of the handicap of being hired and directed by the people of character and courage. our form telegram was read there and a motion was made that the congratulations be sent to Washington. And what did Caiter do on that occasion? He tried to do it without the concern of tense to exceptional broad-mindedness. He rose and said: "I urged Judge Parker to give me the condemnation Judge Parker until we gave him be heard—that we want to hear from Judge Parker." He knew just as well that he would never "be heard from" by him and his church, and that if the judge would never "be heard from" by him, the senate had already voted on the question of confirming him. Judge Parker had refused even to ask questions by the colored people and would "sound fair" and appeal the honor and more innocent member of the congregation. He knew he was resorting to the old trick of defeat. But thanks to the horse sense of the average member of a church congregation, Caiter said: "The serious suggestion was buried under an avalanche of adverse votes and the telegram messages were sent on to Washington—to the great credit of the Second Baptist

If we could only impress such colored "leaders" that when a propositional sentence is before the house, and he cannot by virtue of his office afford to support the proposition actively to the point that his will braver than speaking wrong, and a thousand times more helpful to the people, we hate to speak of individuals and call names; we like to speak of policies and principles. But Mr. William Hear has certainly earned this notice. Texas derives nearly $1,500,000 a year from his poll taxes, payment of which is prerequisite to voting, and gives two-thirds of it to the available school fund.

WACO ATTORNEY GIVES VIEWS OF WHITE PRIMAR
Editor Houston Informer:
On the 5th of April, after consulting with a few political lights in the Democratic parties in Texas, I decided to write to the state executive in committee protesting the barring of Nigroes from the Democratic primary grounds urged by me to them was as follows:

A LIVING SACRIFICE
By KELLY MILLER. Howard University, Washington, D. C.
Nevel H. Thomas is dead. He gave his life as a living sacrifice to the cause of human liberty. Greater love has no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his cause. No Negro since the days of John C. Keyes has no man than his life on the altar of human service. After graduation from Howard University, he entered upon what was calculated to be a brilliant career as teacher of history in the Dunbar High School of Washington, D. C. A young man of the university, and his fine address and facile social gifts, the prospects which lay before him were altogether promising and pleasing, but soon he heard a voice and caught a glimpse of his holier and higher calling. He was not disobedient, but soon he became the brilliant young barrister, gave up his attractive profession and its fees, denned the home-spun dress of his native India, and shared their lowly life in that he might redeem them. In not less surely did Newal have the opportunity to pursue the luring prospect of social glitter of Washington in order to serve his people. He remained a teacher. Espoused to the goddess of liberty, he regarded another wife as bigamy. He constantly jeopardized the tenure of his wife. He recklessness of his courage. He looked upon the pay roll as the general upon the commissariat, merely as basis for the sustenance of his ulteror objective. The powers that he condemned by his violent protests were so powerful that oous regimes hid him sincerely but feared his fearlessness. The cause of righteousness thrives on the blood of the maryland. England today hesitates to make Gandhi a martyr. The governmental authorities at Washington have not tolerated his agitation with salutary inaction.
There are two different types of radicals—the born radical and the prudent reformer. The first type counts not the cost nor takes care of ways calculates upon its own safety, security and personal dignity. Neal Thomas never thought of self. He served the cause of human rights with unimited devotion without money and without the cause of the burden of the cause of a cent. When he gave to the cause, he did not merely give lectures and elegant declaration; but when he gave, he gave himself. He knew that his strenuous activity would hasten the development of the devoted to the cause, its length was of little concern to him. I often cautioned him to cue up on his emotional outburts for fear of the jeopardy of his life. He would always reply to his adversaries his life and powers to the best advantage as long as they lasted.
Thomas' faults were incident to and the natural outcome of his virtues. All highly wrought natures are impatient of opposition. Ardent reformers never break opposition. Did not Calvius oppose them? Ardent reformers never split into warfare factions. Trotsky, the Russian revolutionary hero, was sent to ioxile by the latter reformers. Neval Thomas was like the storm petrel; he flew fastest in face of the storm. He was motivated by the dynamic of dissent. He was not motivated by the national eloquence than when denouncing other radicals who did not see things under his own angle of vision, but the integrity of his heart and the purity of his purpose was never questioned even by the victims of his bitterness. Thomas could only realize that the seal of his cause had eaten him up. The president, cabinet officers, congressmen, commissioners and school authorities knew and feared his name. He would never compromise with unreasonable nor yield principle to expedience.
We should never judge the work of a reformer as we do a material promoter, in terms of concrete appraisal, but rather in the impulse impetuosity of the reformer, kept the cause of the Negro race before the bar of public conscience and allowed no margin of easement. the hero who falls deserves as high mead of praise as he who wears the crown of victory. Whilst Thomas did not prevent the rise of race prejudice, yet we may trace directly to his influence the assurance of the congress of the United States that the colored schools of the city of Washington shall have equal facilities and material equipment with white schools, and measure of success there is by way of removing segregation in the govern-

ANOTHER LEAGUE SEASON OPENS!
According to recent news items, chronicling the mobbing of three American citizens—two colored and one white—it begins to appear that the Lynching League has launched its 1930 season and that a hectic campaign is in the offing. Running true to form, the league in the mobocratic city took the loop race by lynching a Negro, but South Carolina's team staged a belated batting rally and lynched a 50-year-old Negro. To not be outdone and outstripped in the gonfalon chase, Florida's club got busy and staged a thrilling game, with a white man its victim. Members charged against the lynched men were killing white men in altercation over some groceries, criminal attack upon white girl and participation in bombing incident, respectively. Large crowds of cheering, blood-thirsty American citizens—all members of the "superior" race and most of them members of various Christian (?) churches in their several communities—took an active part not only in rooting and pulling for their teams, but actually participated in the game of racist players, rooters and adherents were many women and children of the "superior" race all determined to wreak vengeance upon the three men accused of crime, or else see that those doing the dirty work made a good job of it.
Thus did Judge Lynch's League initiate its 1930 season, and close follow-up predict that the race for the pennant will be very close and exciting, now that such a fine start has been made for this year.
Far be it from The Informer to attempt to pick the 1930 flag winner of this mobocratic circuit, but we venture the assertion that the team which cops the pennant in the Lynching League, the 1930 champion of Florida, always struts contenders for this loop's championship.
HIGH SCHOOL CONFERENCE NEEDED
Some year or so ago, when there was considerable controversy over some of the high schools in this section employing players on their football teams, whose eligibility was contested on grounds of school non-attendance, "ringing" and other causes. The Information Center of the State Department of education to remedy the civilized complains of and to place high school competitive athletics on a higher plan throughout the state.
It will be recalled that The Informer was the first and only newspaper in the state which contended for a conference composed of Texas colleges, and this paper worked with might and main to bring the present state conference into existence; and The Informer has worked just as hard and zealously to see that those who were resorted to by the member schools to disrupt the organization.
The colored high schools of the state need a real functioning conference or league, with certain, definite rules and regulations governing the conduct and procedure of all high schools holding membership in this organization.
Only last kick the Bryan Bears, who had an enviable record on the gridiron, challenged the claim of the Corsicana boys to state championship. The state department that the North Texas had refused to meet the Central Texans.
The Corsicana coach and principal concurred by showing that Bryan was not a member of the present organization, and that until the latter had joined the organised body, no attention would be paid to Bryan's protests, claims and assertions.
Since Texas is so large, it appears to The Informer that the state should be divided into districts, and elimination games played as has been done in certain sections of the state for the last two or three years.
Only teams in the organization would meet each other in various athletic contests, and schools holding no membership in the organization should not be permitted to play other than exhibition games with member schools.
What is still more important is a rule, rigidly enforced, defining the status and eligibility of players and even a limitation of the number of years a student may play on a high school football team.
It appears that some of our high schools, already members in the present organization, are using "ringers" (professional or quasi-professional riders: youth who have played football for six and seven years and who only enter school for athletic participation and then leave as soon as the football season is over; only to return each recurring school year to play football), and many of our high school coaches seem to be anxious at any cost that they are willing to use this species of athletes.
An organized body, if properly functioning, will put an end to such unfair and abusive practices and help to place high school football on a much higher plane in this state; for it seems that all the trouble along this line hinges around football.
If the present supposed statewide high school association is not coming up to capacity and doing the work it is supposed to do along with the present organization can be put in a position where it can deal with and remedy some of the existing evils, then more power and long life to it!
ment departments at Washington is due in the main to his strenuous endower. President Hoover, then secretary of commerce, Secretary Work of the Department of the Interior, were forced to take corrective measures, while Mr. Mellon, secretary of the department, denied the existence of segregation in the department under his control. Neval Thomas was an instant reformer. He despised compromise. He brooked neither reserve nor delay. We need the upright, down straight radical when things are all awry. I used friendly to say to him, "Neval, you have to be careful without you, and yet we want no more like you." That was when he was alive. The world needs only as few radicals at a time. One John Brown was enough for his day. Now that he is gone, where is there another to take his place? He was my friend although of markedly different dispositions. We disagreed and again agreed to disagree. He understood me and I understood. Though Neval Thomas is dead, yet shall he live.
THE MIRROR
After bidding teachers and students, we left Wiley around 10 o'clock in the morning, and headed to Sunday just as jaded of evening had enveloped this section.
We arrived on the return trip, except that boxes and bags of lunches were contained in the room, and there was less eating and no bounce room. An hour was spent at Lafkun Sunday afternoon, where dinner was taken by and large, it was one of the most important triumphs ever, and we the hazard the guest that no matter how the party is raised any againter to Marshall, Bishop and Wiley, and as well as students and students of colleges, deserve much praise for the fine manner in which they received the party while in Marshall. Selah!
Profitable use of a hereafter rather useless raw material of Texas is proposed in the manufacture of steel for the carriage and Eastman capital will be built building several years ago for a cotton mill and complete the
BISHOP YOUNG SPEAKS BEFORE BUSINESS CLUB
Right Rev. G. B. Young, biophysicist of the A. M. E. Church and former pa-
sitioner of the University of South Africa, who in now resident bishop in South
Africa, was the principal speaker at Monday's luncheon of the Houston
University. In the course of his remarks, in which he told of the vast apport-
ment open to the black man in America, he explained how the prelate related how the Africans were trying to solve some of their
problems by operating a community or tribal store
and how they keep a check on the per-
scription.
He stated that he had acquired possession of several thousand acres and operate a school on this acre. He also planned to operate a school with which to pay off the balance of this land, and is making financial assistance in the African project and work at the club endorsed his African work and gave the undertaking its importance. The organization also went on re-enacting the schooling the program was preparing for the Chicago and Detroit during the 1960s, composed of H. P. Carter, B. Mims and I. M. Terrell, to work out a plan for the program with the program as outlined some weeks ago, President C. P. Richardson read the following paper upon newspapers as Media of Advertising: "In this modern age, when civilized people are exposed to newspapers for the most of the news of the day; in this age when human thought and attention are important part in touching human lives and engaging human thought and attention of Americans perceive and digest the views and news carried in the newspapers printed and circulated in this country—it is rather easy to see the influence of newspapers as medium of information."
"In reading the advertisements in the newspapers, often we have heard them say, 'You need the paper says that So-and-So (call us) is appearing in issue of this paper in question) has on a big sale,'" advertising Is Necessity. "No business can thrive and expand through newspaper channels, and the business which is not worth advertising in quest of more business, should be advised to lock up." Advertising is not done with the view of helping out the newspaper, as a sort of compliment; but advertising is investment and like broadcast cast input void into the advertiser. Advertising is our racial contigent, regard money spent for advertising as an expense when strictly speaking, it is progress business and commercial enterprise appropriate for advertising purposes.
"Advertisers and advertising experts have discovered, from years of experience, that people go into the home and is read by every member of the family—thus touching and shaping their every day and the proper medium for advertising."
"Thus newspapers, both daily and weekly, are media of advertising, in which they are wise, progressive, alert and forward-looking business man who realizes the importance of an advertising program in the newspapers."

INVESTING FOR PROFIT
BY CARTER W. WESLEY
As indicated last week, the proper way to invest in assets when securities period, and to sell when the expiration period, and to sell when they are high, in the expansion period. But this is contrary to what the average investor does; he loses confidence during depreciation and regains faith in time to buy at high prices. Rothschild is said to have built his fortune by buying property and investments of known value and having faith in them to sell, and by selling when everybody was buying. If people who read this book when the hard stamped, and spend every penny they can get buying assets, soon build a reserve to fall back upon, which will remove the worry that rests upon all of us who have no reserve to fall back upon in case of sickness.
Perhaps there are some who think that their little bit is too small to make a difference. Since the income tax law went into effect much of the money of wealthier investors who buy in large blocks of private corporations into tax exempt private corporations into tax exempt securities in large blocks to these wealthy investors have to recruiting the small investor to fill the vacant positions in smaller units to persons of limited means.
