Baltimore, Md.,—(INS) —Negroes are beginning more and more in this section to assert their full political rights, especially as they pertain to the time they have confined themselves to participating in elections merely as voters. Now they are beginning to see the importance of seeking office at the hands of the voters of the parish county, city, county or district where they are being emphasized this fact is being emphasized here with the announcement of the campaign of the state of Maryland. The election is on the 4th of November and voters have chance to decide whether they desire to have a Negro as their main government. Some question has been raised against Parish on the ground that he is not a Negro and votes for 50 for that office. But Assistant Attorney General Willis B. Jones has held that Parish is entitled to have his name placed on the ballot and that he will be time enough to consider whether he is of legal age if he is 18. Parker is running on the communist ticket along with four other community members who are candidates for other positions.

Race Problem Discussed By Next Governor
Discussing the fallings of the Nazi regime, we do not have sufficient race pride. We do not have sufficient race pride. We have great race pride of Jews and Indians, who are both minority groups in this country. We do not have the moment of Boley as an all-Negro town is indicative of great race pride, and we do not have the moment of Boley as an all-Negro town is indicative of great race pride. There must be pride of character and family name, he said, and in the case of Boley, the character, morality, sobriety and unrestrained patriotism and obedience to laws.
Murray then proceeded to discuss the ballot and on this question asked me why I would always remember that the ballot of an American in the ballot of a free man is the sovereignty of the state. The time will come when the intelligent man uses the intelligent man of the South and for your benefit the quicker will offer other options the quicker your race ceased to be prescribed."

NOTED LAWYER
SAYS LIFE NOT
SAFE IN GEORGIA
Atlanta, Ga. (INS) — The Negroes of Georgia have known for a long time that civilization was rapidly deprived from the kind of lynching and barbarity, but it now become evident that of the white citizen are becoming alarmed over the present conditions in Georgia. Schuykaw Howard, prominent Atlanta lawyer, said that the Civitan Club here recently, showed great concern over the future of his state, calling attention to how Georgia has been steadily going backward a number of years. Mr. Howard spoke while the audience knew what is the matter with Georgia?
Stating his opinion about the present condition of Georgia, Mr. Howard said: "We have simply dropped out of the process of progress and prosecute the wrong people for disregistration." So serious is the situation in the opinion of this congenial lawyer that he concludes that "A constitutional convention must be called by the people of Georgia." Further, he last ten years practically as much in material progress as we have gained. While Mr. Howard did not call attention to the many recent lyrical attacks on his people, he may only effort to bring the many number to total, he evidently had this in mind, for he favors contributing to the present dire plight of Georgia. This seems clear from these words from Mr. Howard's

GENERAL URGED
TO INTERVENE
Marion, ind.—(INS)—The traditional Southern method of handling mob lynching of Negroes was followed here when the Grant County grand jury refused to return any judgments against the murderers of the 50 slaves. The jury refused to hear after they were charged with the killing of a white man. After investigating the matter for thirty days this grand jury came to the conclusion that there was no sufficient evidence to charge the murderer against any member of the mob, despite the fact that the lynching was perpetrated in the very courthouse.
Not only did the grand jury fail to return a single indictment against Mr. Campbell, it took great pain to exonerate the sheriff of any and all culpability in the connection the grand jury said; it took a large number of witnesses to a large number of witnesses to testify concerning the murder in which Sharif Campbell was killed. He was confronted on the night of August 7. The jury directed him and directed those acting under him in a prudent manner and had a probable that a race riot would have caused and several innocent persons would have killed him. He is entirely exonerated by us of blame or criticism for what occurred, and we are as the report of the grand jury became public James Jopen, the attorney for Campbell, said that he will "give due consideration to the situation" in the motion. UponAffidavit of a citizen of Marion, he will institute a criminal proceeding against Sharif Campbell, and it is expected that he will intervene in the case.
Local colored citizens feel outraged by the arrest of a county jury, and they agree with the following editorial comment which appears in the County grand jury's report: "The Grant County grand jury has added another to the long list of reasons for the arrest. The grand jury will be raised by the colored citherion and every effort will be put into a general conduct a searching investigation into the himself the court prowding a gang against the sheff for failing to prosecute."

"I think you'd better go," the man told her. His heart was still pounding, his face ill, but he was gently disappointed that his visitor was not too mad. "May I be in danger here?" "Well, I also am in no danger from you!" Elmira retorted pointedly. Netted, Carl cried, "be too sad." FOOTBALL FANS BEGIN TO PICK THEIR CHOICES
Thursday, the supporters of the three high schools of Houston began a campaign to make the school is most popular and as to what football player is most popular. The players that Phyllis Wheaton got away with were the quarterback and Booker T. Washburn vow that one of Washington's supporters said the race is not to the swift but to the slower. "We must always be first. But Wheaton says votes are the things that will win."
Who are you for? Vote your commitment each week. Just cut the ballot and fill in the name of the boy you think the team should win. Fill in the name of the high school you think most popular. Then vote for the high schools or at the Lincoln High School, the manager of the Houston Informer. A few of those voting failed to vote. Then vote for the school both in the place for the school both in the place for the name of the school. A vote will only be counted once for the player. But if the name of the player is omitted, the vote for the school for the school. Get That Football! What Team Will Win the Prize?

LON CHANEY'S
FIRST AND LAST
TALKING PICTURE
"The Unholy Three"
SUNDAY - MONDAY - TUESDAY
October 19-20-21
Lon Chaney talks at last—and how!
He speaks in five different voices perfectly adapted to the five characters he imitates. Chaney refused to talk for a long time, but when he did talk, Chaney like, he out talked everybody on the screen.
What a wonderful picture—"THE UNHOLY THREE," is the most unusual entertainment ever filmed—There will never be anything like it, because Lon Chaney is dead and the world only afforded one Chaney—Again we urge you to see—
"THE UNHOLY THREE"
If you don't see another picture this year.

this state is the authority for the statement that each year Ie
Witnessing tore and more provision for the inclusion of Negro
exhibits at county faire in Texas. Th several instances special
bhllings have been erected for the hobsing of ‘Negro. exhibite
and last week in Giddings, «building was dedicated to thelr use
oth in the ine of faire and during the rest of the year. The
‘majority of the counties in which the extension workers operate
have already set apart a regular Negro Day for the fai.
"That this procedure is proof of the effectiveness of the exten-
sion program cannot be doubted. More and more itis coming to
pase that the administrators of this state are realising that the
ability of Negro farmers to produce effectively has direct bear-
ing on the total production and prosperity of counties, And the
‘fact that they are doing their bit to make possible their inclusion
ivan large way as thelr production justifies fs of more than paso
{ng Importance.” Heretofore it has probably been true that It.
‘He of no attention was paid to the Negro farmer. iis erude and
‘out of date methods were taken for granted. Such discoveried as
‘were made by the atudenta of Texas fand ita need were
‘ot made known to them in any ‘way. They. were
rather left to shift for themeclves and to do the best that thes
could. Extension workers among them have worked wo definite
{y'away ftom this btatus that now we soo the actual effort to
Include them in the tcheme af things. And the number of prizes
Which thelr products take each year at these fairs is proof enough
‘of their interest in knowing more.
‘The general public is prone to pay little attention to things
rural. ‘Tho average reader of this Journal thinks little aboyt the
onnection between farmers of the race who produce to the ex-
{ant of thelr ability and the sum total of the wealth and buying
power of the race in this state." And yet that should not be so
‘one of un can thiak of hima as separate from all of the rest
‘of un.” In proportion aa our farmer, and they are the largest
landowners among us, produce largely enough to be counted in the]
general scheme of things, in just that proportion ill the sum total]
‘of the production of the race be increased. Time will come, The
Informer thinks, when Negro farmers aa a general rule rather
‘han the exception aa ie nov the case, will belong to the farm
marketing associations and will have definite part in the determ-
tation of pics andthe procoaeg which hav to do with farmer
{al over this country, There certainly can be no doubt but that
thelr incluston in county faire in ach a large way and the fast
that they are taking advantage of all of their opportunities to
fame in contact with the bert and most modern methods means
that they will eventually contribute more largely to the produc:
tion of their reapective counties, and in that way to the state
at large and to the race of which they are a part. And in all of
iki the part played by the extension agents haa been most comm-
rmendable, ‘They are serving well
GOVERNOR PREVENTS LYNCHING
Very much unlike our own retiring governor, Dan Moody, the
sovernor of Alabama last week dspatched troops to the scene of
threatened lynching and gave them orders to protect the pris.
‘oners and the troops obey him. ‘This action is also in decided
contrast to the attitude of County Commissioner A, C. Neal of
Georgia who, after the lynching of wounded and defenseless
Negro accused of & crime, anid that “I believe Tam safe in say
{ng that the action of the'men who took the Negro trom the Jal
{snot only condoned, but has met with practically unanimous ap-
proval”
‘Governor BIbb of Alabama has been praised and is still recelv-
ing the compliments of a peace loving and grateful public which
is pleased to have the good name of that state protected from
the heartless work of demented hoodlums, "Georgia and Texas,
‘at leash as far as the better thinking: members of both races are
‘cofigermed’ are” at smarting over the shame~and~ humitintion
‘hich have come because the heads of the state did not have the
Courage to protect the law and to enforee the demands of simple
civilization, Georgia continues to murder and to’burn men 1nd
‘women of black skins; and the citizens, even the heads of the
state, applaud the action. In Texas, not only was a man burned
‘to death and the properiy of many’ whose sole offense was the
‘ostession of a black skin, destroyed, but even the courthouse
‘as burned while supposed defenders’ of the law were at work
‘And there can be no doubt that Texas, because of the publicity
‘Which eame from the inldent, has suffered.
AM! persons laying claim t0 any degree of civilization realize
hat a state can be no better than those whom it elects to lead
‘Any political system which ean boast of no more than the

HOUSTON’S TRAFFIC DEATH RECORD || Be - me
_ The number of deaths from traffic accidents in Houston and
vicinity last year reached the tremendous numberof 178, accord
ing to information coming from the bureau of the census. Of
this total 105 deatha were attributed to traffic accidents within
the city. ‘This number Is five higher than for the preceeding
twelve months. Houston's percentage of traffic deaths was ma-
terially higher than that of any of the other large Texas cities
with the exception of El Paso.
‘Ordinary Hountonians will of course wonder why this isso.
All thinking persons will realize that the majority of these nec
dents might have been avoided. Certainly itis true that. the
froverning officials of the elty-nood to give much more sudy to
{he' rable thn has ean avn th former sear and acl
changes i many of the tratfie regulations need to be made. It
is to be noted that many’ improvements have been made within
the last ‘year. Stop lights have Been increased in frequency.
Stop siens hive been repainted more frequently. Boulevards
have been slightly better policed. But that Is not enough. The
improvement on the part of officals mast continue unt rerul-
tions reauate and antl there ean be nq mistake in the regula:
tions even to the casual visitor to the ety.
Citizens also need to help. ‘The pedestrian who crosses the
set without wating fr tho green Hight ia bas thea
sho does the same thing. The average goung driver who wants to
be acen and who drives for show rather than for safety Is at
other menace which all god eizne devout wish could be re.
moved. Alt of us are accustomed to them. And they are all not
confined to our race. The “sweet” driver with his girl in a rent-
ed or borrowed ear who races through the streets with grinning
face sree, perpen Py es and ae of - who!
may path in probably. the. greatest nuance. It was
that sort of driver who killed a boy, Knocked two houses oft the
blacks and wrecked a truck whieh didnot belong to him tio oF
three weeks ago. All of these people as well as the drunken
drivers, both men and Women, have to do with the abnormally
high traffic death rate of Houston, No decrease can or will be|
noted util the axfety of all persons comes to be the constant
thought and desire of all of us. And few of those in such a hur-|
ry can tell just why they are ina hurry anyway.
